Review from terminal version:
I never played this game and my experience was limited to the first game. After playing it for a bit i just can't put myself to continue playing this. Somehow the combat feels worse than in the first game and that is a big no for me.
Really one of the most satisfying game on the POV of a vampire. It fulfill your destruction lust and rage easily by letting out your steam on them weak humans and erm... furniture...
I was going to run this just for a little while for the card drop since i got the Terminal cut version and planned to play that instead. But I ended up forgetting the time and enjoy my killing and... eh... furniture destruction... wham! It's been ages since this game came out, and it still give plenty of pleasure.. or so to say... it's still far better than recent games in the market... which are all about grinding and uh... more grinding. He who grind the most wins! Since when did humankind turned to masochism to fulfill their lust? When in truth, it's Sadism that really helps you release your steam! :3 And this game, is surely for the Sadist! :3
Game is worth $5 and lower.

+/- Ending was a little lackluster. Though some cool parts. Reminded me of Saints Row 3.
+/- Not much of a story was told
-Music
-Very buggy/glitchy
-Level design
-Boss fights
-Mini boss fights
-Copy/paste puzzles requiring to throw bodies at certain objects in a row/pairs. Gets boring and annoying very fast.
-Mostly copy/paste enemies
-Having to fight hammer and demon like aholes that waste time
A sexy red headed dhampir slinging her blades and slicing up everything from nazis to vampires. What's not to love about it?
BloodRayne 2 is fucking terrible. The PC port runs like shit absolutely riddled with problems it took me about 4 hours of hard research to get this heap of diarrhoea to work properly. Even after installing fixes that didn't work. I had to go through all the files and change shit in order for it to run properly. The main problem i was having is that the game runs at about 15 million FPS but the games refresh rate is only 24 HZ. So you only run it at 24 fps which causes some game breaking bugs and animation problems and somehow fucks up the games physics resulting in Rayne floating in air for about 30 seconds after jumping. Even after pissing about for what felt like years i got it working to then be thrown into a fucking embarrassment of a game.
Now the combat is dog shit don't know why they changed it from the first as its combat was very entertaining. it is now MUCH slower and now revolves around you learning new moves after every boss fight which sounds alright but the new moves suck dick and are useless pretty much all of the time. you'll find out rather fast that as long as you have a finger on each hand you can rip though everyone like a fat cunt at a buffet shoveling hands full of shit in his mouth. You achieve this by pressing E (The feast button) and M1 (The attack button in case you forgot cretin). Rayne will do a lovely execution move that lasts about 2 seconds that's unstoppable and makes you invincible now you are unkillable . You cant be knocked off enemies at all in the game like you could in the first have no idea why they thought that was a good idea to remove that.
Boss fights are terrible so far I've fought 5 bosses you cant one shot them sadly. That said all of which I've killed first time by using blood rage and pressing M1 a bunch of times takes about 2 minutes don't bother blocking it pointless you take no damage in blood rage. 3 of the 5 bosses I've fought where the same person copy paste but they're is a million of them so that's OBVIOUSLY OK. They have added jumping sections that are broken. Pipes can go fuck them self's never played a game where you can do the same jump 9 times in a row but 8 of the times you do it Rayne teleports the the other end of the pipe and jumps off to no where falls to bottom of the area so you are forced to do it all over again. Lastly they added in something at first i though was a tutorial only to get you use to the grapple hook throw. That isn't the case it pops up every 2 minutes and because of the terrible controls its a bit of a bastard to do. It involves you throwing 7 guys into a fireplace, fan or whatever the game thinks of while enemy's endlessly respawn to be chucked about.
This game is nothing to the first and its no suprise why it didn't get a third instalment which is a shame because it has potential.
The troubles of getting BloodRayne 2 running on a modern PC are greatly overstated.
1. Install the updated FSAA patch. Configure it to your liking.
2. Install the Xinput fix if using an Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller (which you will want to; character action games aren't designed for KBM whatsoever.)
3. Optional: install the extremely rare, but wonderfully extensive HD texture patch.
4. Lock the framerate to 60 with something like RivaTuner, unless you want the harpoon physics to completely break. You probably have it installed, anyway.
For a fourteen year-old game from a time when PC ports were an afterthought, it's an incredibly painless process compared to most others, and nothing beyond the skills of an average computer user. Certainly a better option than dealing with all the framerate drops in the second act the Xbox version is unfortunately plagued with.
BloodRayne 2 itself?
A massive improvement over its terribly dated predecessor, unless you really enjoy several hours of running through grey-brown hallways shooting nazis—which, while always satisfying—is done infinitely better in the new Wolfenstein games and countless of others.
The combat has actual thought put into it; a proper standardized CAG combo layout, with its own unique novelties like the harpoon throwing. The locales are detailed, diverse, and ooze atmosphere. Laura Bailey delivers in the voice front, savage as always. Decent soundtrack. Excessive, over the top gore. I mean, sure, some of the fights can be a bit obnoxious, and the throwing puzzles are a little too picky to reliably clear, but for every one of those moments, I can think of several others where I'm having the time of life, slashing through goons and bloodsucking/making out with cute goth girls.
It isn't high art, but it was never trying to be, and as much as I adore low-concept/arthouse/etc., that self-awareness is just as appreciable, and what really makes BloodRayne 2 so damn fun. If there were ever a series in need of a reboot, this would be the one.
This is a horrible, glitchy mess that at times becomes nearly unplayable. Compared to the fast paced action of the first game, this has very much been slowed down, to account for more technical gameplay. Trouble is, the gameplay doesn't always work.
The combat is significantly less fun than the first game. The guns are stupid now and next to useless because they are weak and you drain your ammo in seconds. The blades don't always seem to hit your opponents, even though they go right through them. And you can't break attacks with your own. If the enemy is attacking, then look out, cuz nothing is stopping them. And if they attack during your own, they will overpower you completely.
This is especially true for the enemies with health bars. What a mess these fights are. They will destroy completely unless you are patient. They attack nonstop, leaving like one second for you to get a hit in. And then they go off on a combo which you wait for to finish before trying to sneak in another few hits. And the damage you give seems to be completely random. Sometimes the enemies take like 6 hits to move their health bar down a touch, and other times you get lucky and can kill these guys in a few quick hits that somehow take down a quarter of their health per hit.
This goes for you as well. Sometimes when I get hit...by regular enemies included, they do minimal damage, and yet multiple times, when I've had near full health, a basic guy has killed me in one hit somehow.
The glitches are ridiculous. Sometimes when you attack or get hit, you go flying up into the sky for like 10 seconds before coming back down. Sometimes when I pause the game, it would close the game and bring me to my desktop.
I had to restart levels twice because of something not happening that was supposed to.
They also added a climbing/acrobatic aspect to the gameplay and good lord, it is also a mess. The swinging on stuff and wall jumping works fine, but when you are hanging on a vertical pole and want to jump off, she will jump wherever she feels like half the time, forcing you to die or climb back up to that part all over and try again.
That being said, when everything is working as it should, it is a decent game. But it's too annoying to actually enjoy. And compared to the amazing prequel, they just tried to do too much and none of it well.
Oh and lips in the floor!! They are your worst enemies. Rayne is unable to step over anything that is not completely smooth and level. You will get stuck constantly on stairs, any platform raised an inch higher than the ground you are standing on, body limbs. She is unable to step over any of these without jumping.
The only good thing about this game is the huge update in graphics. Normally, I wouldn't even care about the graphics, but when you are playing as someone as hot as Rayne, it really makes a difference.
Deserves the Legacy title
Legendary in every way
This is Bloodrayne with a few upgrades
Double the fun, sexy outfits, twice as bloody
This game just feels wrong whereas Bloodrayne 1 felt just right with all it's flaws. This one just feels like a failed god of war game. Combat is horrible, gameplay is dumb and platformer aspect is an unnecessary burden. Hell, they made Rayne uglier. No juggy mode can fix that. 2/10
i still remember that time when i bought this game at shop... it had a cost of 15 UA grivnia.
fuck... dat childhood *_*
sure 10/10, cause its my childhood*
such an underrated and unpopular game.its great game,go buy it
p.s: all negative reviews are about bugs and glitches.first of all, this game is more than 10 years old,you can read on web about compatibility issues before buying it, unofficial patch named FSAA 1.666 can fix EVERYTHING.
The game has a lot of potential and could've been a gem like Devil May Cry if it was in the hands of a competent team. The game is playable and fun for what it could be, but I just wish Platinum Games could buy the license for this or something and remake it into what it's supposed to be. So play the demo first before getting it. I got it for $2 and it's not a bad price to pay for what you get.
The controls are atrocious. It can be really annoying to jump on the platforms and throw enemies at objects at places where the game wants you to open doors and stuff. And most importantly, there is no way to set up a controller with less than 15 buttons (excluding the triggers) to play with this. I used Xpadder to use the triggers as buttons and not as the z-axis.
There's also a lot of bugs that are encountered at a rate of 1-2 per hour of continuous playing. None game-breaking so far; they're just funny.
What's wrong with the game:
-Animations are just horrible.
-Controls.
-Blade attacks are slow.
-Moves, apart from the feeding fatalities, are so unimaginative.
What's good:
-Rayne's attitude and the dialogue (not the acting though).
-The gothic theme.
-Enemies are dismembered as the blades hit them at the right places (happens often).
-Blood sucking and its creative fatalities/finishers.
Again, it's such a shame that this game can't be remade by a more capable development team. Such a shame.
UPDATE after finishing the game:
-3-5 game-breaking bugs encountered, as in you have to retry so that you can proceed with the mission.
-The gothic theme only lasts for the first mission.
Good game when it works.
This game is not meant for modern windows and will not work. The most I got out of it is about 30 minutes of play time, this is from instant crashing every time I opened the menu or sometimes just at start up.
Aside from a whole host of other issues when trying to run this in compatibility the game when it runs for how long it chooses to run is fun and the voice acting is fair.
Still I will not recommend this for users of Windows 8 and above.
Great Game especially if you like spectacle fighters.
However, if there is one thing that will make you upset, that is the Harpoon mechanic. Keep in mind that you can target any grunt and toss them around, but only in a general direction, if it lands where you need it or not, that is another thing.
Adding to that, a harpoon puzzle on almost every level, some boss section even require you to use the harpoon without explaining it. You will die a lot and all because of this half-baked mechanic that was implemented throughout the entire game.
This is one of my favorite series since the first one in 2002, i do prefer this one over the first unlike many players, mainly bc combat got more interesting, you had the finisher combos, about 12 diferent ones, isnt much but enough to spice the gameplay and graphically, the game is more beautifull but also have much more gore that the first.
Some of the boss fights are awesome but dont really require much tough to overcome, but still better that some recent games, this isnt a game for all audience, but people that like hack slash games would certenatly find some fun playing this series, and the gothic feeling give a nice touch to the scenery.
The only thing i feel the need to point out is, besides some bugs and glitches like instant death without nothing to cause it, sometimes get stuck in scenery after combo, i didnt had any problem playing this games here on steam, not even with my retail version of it, but some users are experiencing some issues like sound and black screen on cutscenes, lack of support for widescreen and newer gamepads.
So i really advise you to research a little to see in what configs do this problems arise, if you arent in mood to fix them on case they appear for you, if you dont have any issues with this kind of workaround, here is link that may help you out (http://www.coopdb.com/modules.php?name=BR2fsaa&op=Download), i definetly recomend this game since there isnt many with this setting and its shame the problems that Magesco had at the time so Terminal Reality wasnt able to make the third installement that was suposed to give some continuation to the Rayne story.
More of not quite the same.
- The combat is more indepth than BR1 since theres an actual movesets now, with evasive and attack moves aswell as finishers.
- You can increase your health and rage (vampire magix) meters by doing environment kills like tossing enemies out of windows, onto spikes, exploding them and other similar fun things.
- Weapon system got changed aswell, you dont pick up guns anymore but unlock them and then level them up by usage which means more "ammo" and power.
- Feeding on enemies doesnt only give health anymore, theres a choice between getting increased rage by doing a finisher or feeding your guns to get ammo back aswell. Its possible to milk an enemy for more than one "resource" but youll never get equal shares - draining them for mostly health means less ammo or rage and vice versa, introduces a somewhat tactical element
It suffers from the same technical problems as BR1 (controller setup, glitches if the systems too fast), can be fixed in the same way tho. Unfortunately it doesnt give a good first impression. The starting cutscenes are obviously the ones with the lower budget and the first/tutorial level is the worst of the game (imo). It gets better quick.
"Listen to them: The children of the night. What music they make!"
Dracula (1931)BloodRayne Round 2 - Fight!
The Combat-System of Bloodrayne 2 doesn't looks different as BloodRayne 1. Oldschool Hack & Slay and everywhere is blood. You have your typical bladed weapons but unlike part 1 you have only one firearm which has multiple firing modes and thus mimics several weapons. With your harpoon you sometimes have to finish mini-games to get further, by catapult opponents somewhere which can be really annoying. Special skills from part 1 still exist and help you again in the fight against different types of opponents. Unlike part 1 of the BloodRayne-saga, Bloodrayne 2 has some acrobatic parts like Prince of Persia where you jump from pole to pole. The checkpoint-system isn't so annoying as BloodRayne 1. Here you have special checkpoints in every level, so you don't have to repeat the whole level, only the part where you die. The graphic of Bloodrayne 2 looks ok for such a old game, at least better than part 1.
To bring it to the point: As cool as BloodRayne. 7,5/10

PS: I just wanted to write a short review, which brings the essence of the game to the point. I hope it will help you in your decision.
BloodRayne 2. What can I say? Is it old? Yes. Is it a little cheesy at times? Yes. With that being said, it is still one of my favorite games of all time. I still own this game for the original Xbox. Probably one of the best vampire games out even though it is super old. If you like vampires, girl protagonists and violence then this game is for you. I would for sure recommend this game. It's an old game but still is very enjoyable.
If I had a complaint about the game it would be the horrid keyboard controls. For me it was pretty much unplayable until I used Pinnacle gamer profiler so I could use my Xbox One controller. After using that program, everything is now okay. Hope this is helpful.
I had a lot of fun playing through BloodRayne 2. I remember playing the demo in the early 2000s when at the time this was one of the most demanding games on the PC. It was nice to finally play through the game past my memories of the demo stage! Despite being a dated DX8 engine, modders have released an "HD patch" for it that lets you set custom resolutions, increasing resolutions of the textures and even installing some HD ones. Besides some minor glitches in widescreen, the game looks great when applied.
The gameplay feels very "2000s action game" when every game was abusing slow motion with fast-paced action. The vampire twist is what makes it interesting, as your health is solely dictated by drinking the blood of your foes, including all your guns which are "reloaded" the same way. The game is very violent, with decapitations, impalement, burning, etc. Story is spoon-fed to you as you go along, with a few pretty FMV sequences thrown in to highlight major plot points. The combat is fairly simplistic, though the developers tried to liven it up by adding a "combo" system depending on the sequence of buttons placed in addition to directionals. The game also heavily uses the environment as a means to the combat flow, requiring you to launch enemies into environmental hazards in what otherwise would be endless enemies to progress the game. The game also contains some basic platforming, but nothing overly challenging or frustrating.
Difficulty wise, the game is easy, especially once you learn to abuse dodge in combination with your "blood rage" which essentially gives you infinite health and damage instead drains your blood rage meter. Replay value is also low with completion of the game just unlocking new costumes for Rayne. The game is by no means amazing and even for its time would be considered a typical action game, though Rayne's character and personality, as well as the gothic and vampire lore is enough for me to give it a recommendation!
A truly worthy sequel to the original, BloodRayne 2 holds up well even today with its cathartic methods of combat, it's visceral style of gore and the always lovely protagonist, Rayne.
Bloodrayne 2, is an older game to what i'd normally play. But my penchant for vampires in film and games won out. This game was made before vampires became pansies, and the character player, Rayne, shows this by being what you'd expect. She cuts people apart, and seems to try and appear as sexual as possible.
I can't say much for the plot, it's -very- generic, and the environments get old very quickly. The abilites are alot of fun to use, i personally favored those abilites which altered the perception of time. The rank three of such abilites is drastically overpowered, but alot of fun.
Enemies serve as healthpacks, Rayne can latch on and drain their blood to heal herself, and she's got a large amount of dodges and flips in her arsenal. You'll never get anything more than guns and blades, but these can be sufficently amusing.
The main issue with Bloodrayne 2, is the camerawork. It is TERRIBLE, and can/will get you killed due to some sadistic edge the developers had. My using a 360 control fixed this, but not everyone would have that choice.
This game isnt amazing, it's old style generic, and we really lack this kind of game in the current day. It's fun mostly due to nostalgia, and the sensation of playing something different to the standard War FPS.
