An incredibly basic and fundamentally ugly first person zombie-and-human shooter with only the vaguest semblance of atmosphere. And that's it, really.
The Store page boasts that it "includes a large open world", but if it all looks as empty and bland as the ten minutes I played, I'm not really sure how much of a "plus" that is. If a game is gonna boast exploration mechanics, there should probably be something worth exploring. (The "zoop!" noise you make when you jump is vaguely entertaining, though.)
Only worth contemplating if you're a mad completist who's played every other zombie game on the planet. Like: literally every single one.
Verdict: 2/10.

Cheers!)
It's true. Not even fun in the 'so bad it's good' way. It technically works, but that's really about it. ಠ_ರೃ
Rough around the edges is an understatement. This is just rough everywhere.
But I don't care.
It's a simple open-ended mindless escape to a post appocalyptic autumn scene. For me, most of the time when I want to play a game or watch a movie, I want to escape somewhere to a particular setting. And I've like what they've done with the place... eh, ok, it's bland. But I like this game for it's simplicity and the setting is enjoyable and you get to fight zombies, humans, monsters with guns. It's got aim-down-sights that doesn't zoom in for non-scoped weapons and some guns I think shoot a bit over where the top edge of the gun is when aiming - I didn't have a problem with it; you can see if you're hitting the enemy by the bright blood splatters that appear. My guess is the offset is due to allowing for scope/sights attachments that you can add. That's another interesting feature I'm looking foward to (finding weapon parts) I haven't even gotten into the crafting (and hardly played) but this is a game I will come back to when I don't want to be bothered with objectives (edit: but I read there are missions later?) or have to worry if I'm using my resources wisely and may need to restart. (edit: so, so much for that? but free respawns) And you also gain XP and can increase char stats when you level up (haven't got that far yet either). Also, hunger and thirst meters, but again, haven't gotten to the point where this has come up - so in my book that's good that they don't deplete so fast they're a constant harassment.
Apparently there's missions and supply drops, too? Cool. I guess I haven't even seen the meat of the game and I still like it.
It uses a java launcher... but w/e, it works; I don't mind. Video options are simple choice of quality pre-sets from low to highest and the game runs at a fixed resolution that upscales to fullscreen (unless you're running at a lower res?)
A major pet-peeve of mine when it comes to games is controls. If I can't play the way I want to it's frustrating for me. Well, in game, you can't rebind controls or change any settings, but the ini files are accessable and editable (not edible).
(steamapps/common/Axion/UDKGame/Config/...)
So I was able to rebind my controls, set mouse sensitivity, fix screen resolution, make some other system settings changes. (Probably best to make a back up of the original and your editted files, incase you reset the video settings and they overwrite your own changes)
I'm assuming that in UDKSystemSettings, "[SystemSettingsBucketX]" where X is your chosen video quality preset, is the section you want to edit to get your changes to show for the quality preset you've selected.
A casual, explore, 'loot', craft?, kill game. And it's cheap (but always buy on sale). So if you're not isntantly put off by the graphics, the hilariously bad/simplistic physics in the trailer, and don't mind editting a few files (or play with the default controls and vid settings) then maybe you can enjoy this as a casual mindless escape in a distinct scenic autumn setting, just as I did. Like I said, despite my low play time, I will be coming back to this!
I wanted to like this game. It had all of the right ingredients; guns, explosions, zombies and a survival theme. Unfortunately, it falls short on delivery because of being too complicated, and too much like other larger commercial releases. This game would work well with some refinements, but sadly does not work well in it's current state.

TLDR: Assetflip quality. Hold walk button gameplay. Clunky animations. Google text to speech intro. Nonsensical setting.
Review: This is another one of those titles where you are dumped on a badly rendered island/town/countryside landscape and roam around pointlessly while gauges go down. In this one you get experience for picking up stuff that you find lying around and you make combat with limited AI drones using clunky animations. Its one of those... walk for 10 minutes til you find someone to kill game... The intro was text to speech and google image search slideshow and some nonsensical drivel about humans needing dark matter for... electricity? and ... end of the world zombies... something something
Expect a sharp feeling of anxiety and depression from this thing even existing, frequent framerate dips in the single digits and a general sense of confusion as to why you are even engaged in playing this game. Truly an existential crisis generator. Keep the mentally unstable and emotionally fragile away
I won't write a proper review for this title. It doesn't deserve it.
Simply put, this is not a game. This is a number of 3D-objects (some free templates, my guess) bunched in some demo, using UT engine. The sounds and music are from free libraries, the voiceover is Google voice emulator, the models... well, they might be unique, but they look like the worst 3D-objects I ever saw in my life.
This is absolutely fucking unplayable. I tried for like half an hour to do something with it -- no result. Nothing. You absolutely can not play this. Game crashes, there's no tutorial, there are no guides, you spawn with a pistol in a seemingly empty clone-stamped world, and you have to entertain yourself.
I don't remember buying this, so my guess is -- this was either gifted to me, or it was in some bundle.
If you are going to spend your money on this, just don't. If you'll get it as a gift, decline the gift.
Honestly, ignore at all costs.
THERE IS ONLY 1 DEVELOPER! keep that in mind.
this game is an open world zombie survival game that is similar to day z, 7 days to die, after math, infestation survivor stories, and many other games.
the game play consists of scavenging buildings for food, water, fluids to drink, ammo, weapons, medicine, and more. you have 3 meters to watch besides your health. there is a lungs meter to desplay your stanima and how tired you are, how much further you can run
there is a hunger meter, need to eat at times or you could starve
water meter, how thirsty are you? need to drink...or die.
the zombies are overly fast but that can be fixed and im sure it will be.
aiming is difficult but not impossible, there is no crossair to help, just you abnd your eyes. i had no issues killing zombies, not even killing the guy running at me shooting from afar. was easy when i held right click to aim before firing.
the game needs optimized, it does get a little laggy, 30fps - 45fps outside anywhere, 60fps inside buildings. im fairly certain this will be fixed (remember 1 developer, lotta work)
EDIT: a couple patches ago the game seems to run a bit better, now i get 40-45fps outside sometimes 60 outside, and still perfect 60 inside.
the graphics aren't to great, they are at par with sony playstation 2 and xbox 1. not a game breaker though, and the dev is working on it.
EDIT2: there have been so,me graphical enhancements, buildings look way better and so do many other models, this help a lot with the games atmosphere.
PROS:
dev is pretty constant releasing patches (despite the bad reviews, other devs seem to give up)
open world
co-op
multi player
zombies
survival
scavenging
similar to some pretty great games
CONS:
kinda laggy on a high end system maxed out (have not tried lowering settings)
needs performance tweaks
graphics aren't to great (the dev is working on that though)
RECOMMENDED 6/10 (would be 7.5/10 if it ran better.
I'm going to be perfectly honest here, I decided, after all the reviews I read for this game, to give it the benefit of the doubt. I thought there could be something, even the smallest thing, that would make this game worthwhile.
After 20 minutes of playing, I regret to say, I couldn't find much redemption here.
First launching this game, I thought "OK, a little rough around the edges, reminds me graphically of early PS2 era games, but it probably has potential! I mean, hey, what could possibly go wrong?" Well, me of almost an hour ago, almost everything went wrong.
I won't get into the story aspect, since there isn't really much of one anyway (Oh, mysterious chemical accident of new elements! Oh noes!), but instead, I'll be focusing primarily on the gameplay.
For one, holy balls this game is clunky! Movement and character animations aside, aiming is almost impossible. Trust me, there are iron sights, but the iron has long been rusted. In fact, your squirt gun of a pistol doesn't have a sight AT ALL, making aiming a real pain to deal with. The only weapons I found I could moderately aim with was the hunting rifle and the shotgun.
With that in mind, now add in a very broken damage system and extremely dumb but unforgiving AI. There were a number of times where I died almost spontaneously and without much reason, if at all, and mainly it was due to the fact the zombies deal so much damage in such a short amount of time, you will die a lot. In fact, one instance, I was perfectly healthy and standing, when all of a sudden I collapse dead. Fortunately, I found I was able to keep all my gear, so no harm done there. Not only that, but the aggro range is extremely sensitive. No sense in being stealthy if you're gonna don get shot or mauled to death anyway.
This game has potential to be something, just the execution was done horribly. In fact, this game isn't worth the normal $1.99, hell, even the $0.59 I paid is too much to ask for this. The game just feels unfinished and overall uninspired. Axion will need a massive overhaul in order for me to change my mind and give this a positive review.
good god what an awful game graphics are rubbish map is useless buggy boring you start of on a beach you wander of into some woods i think more like blops in diffrent shapes you come to a cardboard cut out thats suppose to be a town you get killed by a wobbling zombie and start at the beginning again couldnt find any save feature before all that just to get this junk running you have to hold your breath and download java where you are directed to dont be fooled by the video unless you have a good machine you have to play low to medium graphics waste of money
Axion is an unassuming open-world survival game, with themes obviously heavily borrowed from STALKER.
What I immediately noticed upon starting was that the game looks like ass, but surprisingly also runs like ass. The graphics here aren't too impressive on any setting, but having to turn the detail down to Sega Dreamcast levels just to avoid a dip in framerate is not a good sign. Yet, the problems did not stop there. At every turn, I was exposed to the awkward draw distance that selectively rendered the same 10 buildings based on size, not on distance, the blurry and stretched textures that compose said buildings, and the ugly lighting that turned every indoor location into a high-contrast mishmash of pitch-black walls and glowing floors, where using the flashlight was absolutely necessary to smooth out the light and make it possible to see.
The crudeness of the graphics is complimented by the crudeness of the gameplay itself, where many of the missions degenerate into run-and-gun pieces of proverbial cake, with the only significant threat coming from the few enemies who either spawn in far too close for comfot, or can cover hundreds of feet in a matter of seconds. The enemies all have the same pattern; They just run straight at me and attack endlessly. If one gets too close, death is nearly instantaneous. Thankfully, most come running in from a safe distance on flat terrain, or sometimes straight through fishing ponds where the water is visually distinguished but might as well have the same physical properties as air. Theoretically, this would allow for plenty of time to react to threats. In practice, however, the muddy graphics quality combined with bizzare audio that makes pinpointing the direction and distance of sounds impossible inevitably results in taking damage, usually from an enemy with a ranged weapon. Take too much damage and it's game over; Rather, the player dies, and gets to respawn a few seconds later with all items intact and no penalty, other than having to make one's way back to the relevant spots on the map from the desolate respawn points tucked away in the corners.
Take a lot of damage, but not enough to die, and you get a fracture, which slows down movement to an annoying crawl. Often, I found it more beneficial to let enemies simply finish me off if I didn't have thte materials necessary for a splint, as there is no real downside to dying.
The way that the game handles its great equalizers is one of the strangest cases I've ever seen. Sooner or later, the player ends up with the same variety of weapons and tools as in any other playthrough, including, but not limited to:
- A shotgun that always does the same damage from any distance within its effective range
- A bolt action rifle that gains an increase in both firing power and fire rate from a scope attachment
- A Geiger Counter, its effectiveness hindered by its slow activation and the fact that many of the locations with harmful amounts of radiation look similar or identical
There are a few light RPG elements. Completing missions, hitting enemies, picking up items (even things already owned), and simply existing will provide experience points. Get enough, and go up a level, granting a skill point to be distributed among several abilities, most of which do create noticeable improvements in the character. I'm not so sure about "Luck", though, as most objects always seem to spawn in the same places every single time without fail. Maybe it has more to do with the enemies who spontaneously die. I dunno.
Out of morbid curiousity, I checked out the multiplayer. There is only one server, providing enough space for only 16 people to play at the same time, which is not a whole lot considering the size of the game world. Needless to say, the server was empty every time I went on, and it was an experience much like that of singleplayer, with one exception: LAG. In some ways, it actually made the game too easy, like having enemies who would run to a point I occupied maybe 15 or 20 seconds ago.
Now, to be fair, it's inexpensive, and there is one redeeming quality about this game: It's fun, but it's tough to explain why it's fun. It's like the empty satisfaction I get from putting a quarter that won't be missed into a generic-looking arcade cabinet, and then realizing 20 minutes later that the game has managed to keep me entertained thus far.
I'm not going to recommend this. While it can be mildly enjoyable, I figure that this is because I've just spent so much time with it and have become accustomed to its roughness. As a whole, it seems like an early access game that was never finished, and there are many other games out there that provide a better such experience.
This game is so un optimised and difficult to play, it needs to be worked on a lot before it can even be considered an early access game
Figured I would pick this title up and give it a shot.. for 99 cents it isn't all that terribly bad. Game seems to run a smooth 30+fps, did notice a few flaws which is expected.. if you are in a building and theres a enemy outside it shows partially through the wall. it seems to take a long time to level from 0 to 1. and the enemies seem to notice you from too far a distance to even be able to aim and shoot and by the time you can you are either almost dead or dead. In my opinion there should be more buildings you can enter and not ones that are just textured boxes. needs more building varieties as well. the timer to even move when you have died doesn't seem nessesary since it takes time to walk across the platform and across the barren area to even get to any action. This game seems to show some potential with some work. I know the Unreal engine is capable of so much more and will edit and or add to my review as this game progresses.
Now in my opinion is this game worth the asking price? Well yes it seems worth it since I have paid more for a game that was just totally not worth even a fraction of the cost.. (I am sure some can mention some bad games)
There is a gameplay manual for this game and I would HIGHLY suggest reading it so the game makes more sense.

Of all the unfinished "games" on Steam this was the first where I actually had to get my money back.
I'm not gonna bother explaining why, because the list would be too long and take more of my time than I'd want to spend on this topic.
I'm just gonna forget this thing and move on.
Take a game like 7 days to Die... zombies, you gotta survive... basic trope of the easy sell gaming industry. Now take the game 7 Days to Die and remember it from pre-Alpha 8.... now purposely make that that gaming experience the equivalent to a root canal in Latvia and you have Axion.
The idea has been done. The game is sluggish for not much content -- get a new engine and rebuild. The whole thing is just really bad.
There are bad points I think. UI is basically hard to deal with. Graphic is not beautiful....It's scary but I feel uncomfortable.
Also, I can't understand this game's system in whole. Why is starting weapon of handgun unlimited magazine...?
I've got many hours experience now and up to level 38. I've cooked fish and sold it to the scientist. I can figure out which spawn point I'm at by the position of the sun, hop on my bike and go right to Center City. I hang out there until a drop is announced - then go get and return it for a reward. The game's best attribute is it's game play. I'm sure a large team of artists could improve the graphics and sound quality but the game play is of primary importance. The game hasn't crashed on me at all lately. One tip - you must have your flashlight on inside the buildings. Great Job on the GAME!
Most of the negative reviews on here are from people who played the game for about 20 minutes or played a very early release. Note that the longer people play the more they like it!
This is an updated vesion of my last review.
Axion is a survival game in devellopment and it is starting to take shape. i still stand by my opinion that it was out too soon.
i like the intro and the music is fine.
first time i played it it took too long before you hit a snag. that has improved some.
The graphics is allso starting to improve. the hand is now more shaped like a hand :-)
sound effects has not changed as far as i can hear but that can wait untill the rest of the game is finished.
The loading time was at some point extremely slow but that has definently improved a lot. well done.
maby it is me but the bandits are more focust on you now and the same time their aiming fits there movement. (moving fast = bad aiming).
Map acces. easy and it looks more like a map.
but the best ive seen so far is the backpack overview and the side overview. mayor improvment.
i still cant recomend it for new players but it has improved so i am still comming back to play and i know it has a long way to go.
good luck droog71.
I like the enthusiam but the graphics really are just not up to date :/ Sorry. I do hope this game gets better though as you can tell there was a lot of work done since initial release. Just some things here and there.
Not to bad really. for 2.19 dont see the harm in trying it out.
Review Edit- (14 more updates)
Resolution change is now a thing, wonderful.
Map seems to have been mixed up, always good.
New back pack hud/system, also good.
Performance is still a bit of a let down, on low at 1080p full screen i get 40 fps with drops to 25.
FX 8350 @4.3ghz
R9 390 8gb
16GB ram. so thats got a ways to go, but its still very playable in its current form and has a weird addictive charm that keeps me coming back to see whats new, Great progress has been made and as of jan 2016 i still thumbs this one up!
