Some claim they are the messiah. Others believe they exist only in the imaginations of the young. The Seekers, however, know Humans exist and believe they are an enemy that must be destroyed. Under the guise of benevolent explorers, Seekers comb the universe and eradicate any Human colonies they find. Until now.
Working with award-winning science fiction author Orson Scott Card, GlyphX Games has created a gripping storyline that will thrust gamers into an incredible intergalactic saga.

Game keeps crashing but the story is amazing ;,( I wish this would get a remaster for modern computers.
Good game that I played on xbox 360 long ago. Allows you to make some choices in the story line. Definitly shows its age now.
I don't recommend this game though because I couldn't get it to run unfortunately. It keeps crashing, so I suspect that it has something to do with a poor port.
I wish modern Xbox studios would bring this back. This game felt incredible back on the original Xbox but does not adapt well to the PC experience. Definitely one of the games of all time tho.
Advent Rising seems promising in the first thirty minutes, however, misfortune makes itself known when players are required to eliminate floods of enemies with unwieldy gunplay. Even when players have the opportunity to level up their firearms and athleticism, melee attacks often fail to connect and firearms never have enough bullets in the long term to handle swarms of agile enemies and periodic sub-bosses effectively. When paired with sections with infinitely spawning enemies, combat becomes outwardly debilitating. Even for its time, Advent Rising was unsuccessful in winning over players with its unusual cinematic cutscenes, irksome controlling, and immemorable plot and characters.
I originally played this game in 2006 on the original xbox, renting the game from a Blockbuster. I instantly fell in love with it's goofy jokes and humor. The story may feel a bit rushed and some cutscenes may be a bit scuffed, but even today in the year of 2024 the story and gameplay still hold up. Advent Rising still remains as one of my most favorite sci-fi games and I still wish it got a sequel to this day.
There is no way of sugarcoating it - this game is a mess
Despite what many have said, i decided to give it a chance. I mean how bad could it be? You play as Gideon, who gets warned by aliens called Aurelians, who claim that other alien species, called seekers, are planning to anihilate humanity. The goal is to stop them, of course, and plot then goes through a lot of twists and deaths and i didn't care about any of them. I blame the fact, that the game just rushes through the plot with a lightning speed. As a result, many characters feel underdeveloped at best and bland at worst like our main protagonist. Not like it's original. In fact, it's like hodge podge of other sci-fi. It does also the major sin of ending the game on the cliffhanger. They planned a sequel, which, due to the lack of money, got eventually scrapped.
However, it's clear, that they didn't have too much to begin with, because while it tries to be this epic tale with many cutscenes carrying the story, it all falls apart, when you get to play the game. It's a third person shooter with driving sections. Imagine mix between Halo and Max Payne. The shooting is fine, if unexciting, but I did notice that autoaim has tendency to sometimes target completely different thing than you want to and that can be problem, when there are more enemies on the screen. You eventually get the powers and that offers some enjoyment, especially telekinesis. Then there are driving sections and they aren't great. Tanks handle okay, but cars don't control all that well.
But what ultimately kills the experience for me is the technical aspect. You'd think that something that was meant to be this grand adventure, spanning multiple sequels, will be short on bugs, but it seems that they spent most of their budget on marketing and testing got the short end of the stick. this has almost no polish at all. Sound design is completely messed up, with some noises being louder than they should be and in some sections lacking sound or music entirely. that's not all. Some enemies just spawning in out of nowhere, Ai running into walls, getting stuck throught the wall and needing to restart the checkpoint....there's a lot.
There are games like Vampires: The Masquarade - Bloodlines, which can be fun, in spite of the glitches. The problem with Advent is that it's boring. It never rises beyond mediocre and due to the aformentioned technical state, it's often aggravating. It lacks interesting story to keep you engaged and for space opera, that's pretty bad. Honestly, i'd rather skip this Mass Effect from Wish, especially when you can get a real deal.
