In Steamroll you are a young engineer in his first day of work and take control of the Scarabeus, the greatest new steam-fuelled vehicle invention, while you try to survive in a crumbling mine and look for a way out.
The Scarabeus
Half beetle, half armadillo, this amazing rolling vehicle can transform and deploy itself into certain bases. This allows you to fill the steam tank and, most important, to shoot steamballs. In its shooting form, the Scarabeus is connected to an underground resources tank. From there, you'll have to find out the best angle to solve the puzzles this mine proposes. Precision and calculus are needed to push buttons, activate switches and open doors.
Steamballs
These small spheric devices can be shot in several angles and intensity. You'll have to be careful using them, you'll have a limited amount of resources in each deployment base. Steamballs can be filled with latest technology inventions, which will deploy after the steamball is shot.Walls will allow you to create surfaces in which steamballs will bounce.
Explosives might be very useful to get rid of garbage and obstacles.
Placed correctly, a ramp is the best way to reach higher places.
Explore this dark steampunk adventure and meet some weird characters in your great and dangerous escape. Use your skills wisely and remember that patience is a virtue.

A very entertaining game. It reminds me of Portal set to a SteamPunk environment.
Unfortunately it hangs at level 8 (unless the bug is actually part of the game?). The goal seems to obtain the ramp ball using the given 3 steam balls while at the same time opening the gate and activating the draw bridge. I have succeeded and the controls say the ramp ball shooter is activated. However, the ramp ball counter does not acknowledge it and stays at 00! Email to developers went unanswered.
I believe that if the malfunctioning ramp ball shooter was part of the game there would be some mention of it during the ongoing dialogs. If anyone knows something feel free to advise me.
Absolutely loved it.
I wanted to like this.
I like collision games, angles, snooker and pool, mini-golf, carom billiards, etc.
But this game is just way too buggy. The physics are insane and I couldn't even get my ball up a simple ramp in one of the puzzles.
If they fix the physics bugs (but I doubt they ever will) then I'd re-buy this game in a heartbeat. But as it stands I gave it an hour and I had to refund. I simply cannot play this game due to the physics glitches.
Awesome game
Great Game Thanks!
I loved Vaporum and The Ball for their interesting puzzles and the steampunk feel. Steamroll is twice as better and I've enjoyed every part of it. It's atmospheric, calming (the music fits very well) and the mines make you want to replay the levels again. You get to control a larger machine (sadly, only for one level)
In the end, I was satisfied with the closure. Short and to the point - nothing cliche.
Try this game out, you wont be disappointed.
If Anticto were miners, their games would be called gold.
game crashes forcing me to restart PC several times. Tunnel game mechanic forces trial and error as the guide path does not show until after first time used. Background story is boring.
Controls were confusing, puzzles were tedious, and I had a crash in the first 15 minutes. I bought it 75% off and still ended up requesting a refund.
Love this game
Pretty nice Steampunk-styled physics puzzle.
Must have for Arcanum fans.
Graphics 4/5
Sound 4/5
Gameplay 5/5
Bugs - none found during full walkthrough. (linux version)
Pretty interesting puzzle game. After starting it up I've had a weird green screen flickering, which I could get rid of by enabling windowed borderless.
Afterwards, a badly translated game awaits. The actual gameplay, however, is very interesting and gets harder on a decent curve.
I don`t like to give a thumbs down for something that has obviously taken allot of care to produce but sadly I found this game quickly became boring.
There are far too many controls for one thing, a bit of simplification of these would help quite a bit.
My main complaint however is that the levels themselves quickly devolve into you doing a load of grunt work to set up all the pieces to a puzzle you spotted how to solve within seconds of entering the level, only to then move on to the next level and have to do a slight variation on the same thing.
With better thought out controls it might be faster to get the pieces set up and get throught the levels, or better thought out levels might make it less of a grind. As it stands I cannot see me going back to this game.
I was a bit unsure about it at first but ended up quite enjoying it. It's a game in which some voice acting would go a long way, just sayin'. ;P
I funded this game when it first appeared on Kickstarter, but unfotunately it didn't reach the funding goal. Happily they succeeded on Greenlight ;)
I bought it this week and I really enjoy playing this game. It's not the typical puzzle game. Fresh air! You are an engineer inside a steam ball-vehicle and you roll inside a mine. You have to shoot and destroy obstacles to be able to move, you construct walls and ramps...
Good story, nice graphics and it works on Linux. Moreover, I can play in my mother tongue, Catalan ;)
Overall this is an enjoyable puzzle game with an interesting steampunk theme. If you're a fan of physics based puzzle games then this is well worth a look, particuarly if you enjoy the steampunk theme.
The gameplay has an interesting mix of turret based "pinball" shooting combined with a movement mechanic (I'd call it light platforming without jumping if that makes sense). While the sections focused on movement are not the most enjoyable parts of the games they are integrated into the puzzles in a manner that's more integrated into the puzzle than the simple "clear a path to the exit" that you get in a lot of puzzle games.
My primary complaint with this is probably the length. I was able to complete the entire game (including achievements) in just 7 hours the first time through. I'm not opposed to short games in general but the problem with short puzzle games (including steamroll) is that a short game means that you don't really get a chance to build up a repetoire of tactics that you can use in future puzzles. That's particuarly noticeable here, each level feels completly different and for the most part strategys and tactics that work on one have very little impact on another.
Now saying "each level feels different" does sound like an odd complaint but for a puzzle game I like it when later levels build upon skills and tactics that have been taught and used in earlier levels because it generally means that the puzzles have a greater level of depth to them. Steamroll doesn't really have that, each level and to some degree even each turret spot has a single, relatively unique solution to it that probably won't come up again.
Overall though this is still a solid game. The gameplay is fun, the plot is decent and the artwork is solid.
So far, as a part-time gamer I find this game very good. No lagging in game play (i7, gtx760). I'm only up to level 8 but not bored with it. It works well with the remote XBOX gamepad.
If you like puzzle games like Portal or The Talos Principle you will also like playing this one.
It runs smoothly, has very nice graphics and pleasant background music. The sounds are well done, too. Gameplay is fun - playing against time or resources (or both). I like the leader board feature and I hope there will be some expansion levels in future (or even a map editor?).
Great game to each member of the family. Puzzle solving tricks, steampunk art, good music and sounds. If there will be a multiplayer mode thats will be the great fun!
I really do like this game. Steam Roll makes you think a couple moves ahead before even shooting one ball.
I am having problems with "meeting point" but that shouldn't be a reason I do not recommend this game.
Really fun puzzle game, enough said. The whole steam punk aspect to it makes it unique. Well done!!!!!
