Simple, fast-paced arena shooter with basic visuals, low difficulty and retro vibes.
Bought it 5 years ago, don't really remember why, but the only thing that I do remember that this game is very short (like 1-2 hour short), kinda fun? There are some interesting ideas in here, but the game gets annoying at times and is very rough around the edges. As somebody's first Steam game it's fine, especially for such low price, but I really don't think it is worth your time if you are looking for something more polished.
+ Simple!
+ 100% achievbements!
+ Easy!
+ (You can Get Achievements even if u use Cheat Codes)
This is just a boring shooter! You turn into a corner and the enemy will shoot you, not to mention, spawning behind you. I suppose it's cheap, but it won't enthral the majority of gamers. It's a case of learning where the baddies are, so if you like that sort of thing, you may get enjoyment out of it.
There is literally nothing here that makes Monument worth your time. Sure it's just two dollars, even less on sale, but there's a whole bunch of other games that are a million times better than this for the same price. It's ugly, it's underwhelming, it's review-botted and your 40 minutes of playtime are better spent somewhere else, trust me. Also I don't want to jump into conclusions but this totally feels like an asset flip that was made in an afternoon.
0/10
I don’t like to be too harsh, especially on what seems to be a student project, but games don’t just cost money—they cost time. And honestly, Monument doesn’t do enough to justify playing it over classic shooters like Quake or Unreal.
The level design and enemy placement are the weakest aspects. It leans heavily on Doom-style colored keycards, but the levels are small and filled with excessive backtracking. Later levels feel like they have a locked door in every second room. Enemy encounters are frustrating—either teleporting right in front of you or pinching you from behind in narrow corridors, which is terrible design for a movement shooter that encourages strafe jumping.
With so many great old-school shooters available, Monument just doesn’t stand out. It’s not offensively bad, but there are far better games in the genre that deserve your time.
VERY GOOD GAME
GOOD MEOMORIES PLAYING
AWESOME !! who care's about reviews, this is Great FPS !
Great game with a lot of action and amazing graphics for only 2 dollars it's a steal
you cant turn music off completely
I played Monument around 2 years ago and i hated it but i decided to give it an another go as it sat in my library and....its actually okay? its a small arena shooter that isn't too crazy but does the job of killing some time. The game is pretty ugly, the weapons look wierd and the levels look pretty ugly too while their layout is fine. The enemies are fine, their design is nothing special but i think they fit pretty well into the game. Monument has no lore and there's little to no horror in the games atmosphere, its something more like an action packed blood and gore movie. The game has 5 levels in total wich are fine, first playtrough had me a bit confused on where to go but once you play the game a second time you won't get lost. Monument is pretty bloody easy, i beaten the game on normal and hard and didnt die much.
What about the gunplay you ask? the game gives you 6 weapons in total (the 6th one is more of a tool) and while the sounds and models of those weapons are quite meh the shooting is fine, and i enjoyed taking down the hordes of hellish filth. The game has a one boss fight wich is pretty simple and the whole game itself is a walk in the park, but for the price if offers i cant complain about it, its alright and does its thing 6.5/10.
Monument delivers a fast-paced, nostalgic FPS experience that brings back the essence of '90s shooters. The game emphasizes straightforward mechanics with a strong variety of weapons and challenging enemies, keeping the action relentless. A unique feature is the teleport gun, adding a layer of movement strategy, which helps set it apart. However, some level transitions could use more polish, and the enemy variety is somewhat limited. Overall, it’s a solid entry for fans of the genre, providing a good balance between nostalgia and modern gameplay elements.
Time Investment: 10 hours
Completion: 90%
Value Rating: 8/10
Stay focused. Keep grinding.
I don't like to dump on what is probably a student game, but games don't just cost money they cost time that could be spent playing a better game. The price is whatever to me personally, and Monument is not offensively bad, but this game just offers nothing interesting to justify its existence when you could get more enjoyment just booting up Quake or Unreal again. The level design and enemy placement might be the worst part. The levels lean heavily on the Doom coloured keycards gimmick, but the levels are small and you backtrack through areas constantly. Later levels feel like they a locked door in every second room. Enemies also don't exist until they teleport right in front of you, or if you are forced through a tight corridor they also teleport in behind of you. A movement shooter with strafe jumping should not be forcing you though narrow corridors this often with the same pincer maneuver. We exist in a wealth old school shooters and many of them more worth playing than Monument.
Even though the game is super cheap, I don't feel like it's worth it at any price.
Level design feels bland and unintuitive, enemies are lazy and very poorly implemented (boring designs, hitreg issues, all enemies bline for you and they spawn behind you with no sound queues) Boss at the end of it all is just a spongey base unit. The game is short but incredibly easy, I fell asleep playing it last night. Not joking, it's that boring. I fell asleep mid playthrough. I did not have any fun playing this
Monument is a (probably asset flipped) level based first person shooter, basically a very lame Quake ripoff, only worse in all respects, with poor quality, clunky assets, and equally clunky gameplay. Unity's 3D engine does give us smooth framerates though. You fight a bunch of candles and other mostly nonsensical enemies, not that there's any point in doing so or reason to want to. Reading the fake reviews for the game is more entertaining than playing it.
The game is very very short and can be finished in over 30 minutes. Developers have at least some responsibility to provide enough content to make a game last more than 2 hours if they're serious about providing something of value to gamers. There's less content here than some free game demos.
The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the mid 2000s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with.
The game assets are fairly mediocre/low quality, in some places they appear mismatched... Ultimately the quality of these assets, and thus the overall visual quality is lower than average, and low quality always makes for a less than optimal gaming experience. Remember, we're looking for the best of the best of 100,000+ games on Steam.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Monument didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for meeting the "green candle" enemy, the first you see, trivial to get, but less than 13 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, even the people who own this game weren't interested in it.
Warning: Review Manipulation!
This game features a HUGE number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews, from the Russian review paid review farm uncovered by Sentinels of the Store. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Monument is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Kinda mid but for two bucks i'd say its worth it
I don't know if I paid money for the game. God, I hope I didn't. You can tell it's not an asset flip because there's some hint of passion by the dev. However, the dev isn't very good at developing games
