I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Not sure why it took almost 2min for it to load when i first launch, i though my PC hangs!!

The default is running windows frame where you have to go to the menu to make it full screen, what a BS

It's a rogue-like game with loots and changing, the hitting direction is like just top down left right, but enemy can comes in 8 directions!! most of the time you need to run away from mob then go toward the mod again so you can facing them and hit them.

Not that bad, some people might enjoy it, but not me.

Amature game design. Play better flash games for free.

While this game was fun for a bit, it's too easy for the first 18 floors, and after that the difficult spikes shoots through the atmosphere. Couple this with the game's clunky mechanics and bad graphics and you have a game that's only fun for a few hours. The only redeeming feature of this game is, I would say, the loot system. It's cool to store items, steal skills, store skills, etc. But that's it. The game itself isn't fun to play, which is unfortunate. Pass on it.

The first minute or so of the gameplay reminded me a lot of Illusion of Gaia on the SNES. However, it was quickly apparent the controls and very glaring lack of clear indication on how to interact with the GUI would prevent me from enjoying this game. Maybe if I continued playing I would have gotten better at knowing which keyboard commands got me to where I wanted to go, but considering the ocean of games available today I decided it was not worth spending the time. Also, and maybe it would have been revealed had I continued to play, but the complete, utter lack of a plot was also offputting. It reeks of a project in development by one or two guys, which is fine, but I don't think it's Steam worthy. Just my $0.02, of course.

Alright, so let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. Technically speaking, it isn't impressive. It opens in a window and goes to full screen upon reaching the main menu, has borderline no options in the settings menu and looks a few steps ahead of a flash game.

Your mileage may vary, but as with games like Rouge Legacy, you are doing things for the greater good of a progression system which will then enable you to win the game, currently (8/2016) set at 100 floors. That's the point, you aren't supposed to beat it in one go. You go into a small, tight room, which is always randomly generated. After clearing it by usually killing everything in it, you earn XP and cards. The XP is for your overall level, which contributes to unlock tokens for passives such as better attack, defense, speed, etc.

The card system is interesting enough. Say you have an ax as your primary weapon with no skill attached to it. The card drops (red are rare!) vary, but perhaps you got a sword with a skill on it. You can choose to equip the sword, which will destroy your ax card. You can also steal the skill from the sword card, destroying the card, but letting your ax have the skill. Or, you continue as you are, which then stores the sword card for use on your next run. Confused? Don't be, it's harder to understand in text than in practice. If you save a bunch of sword cards, for example, you can then salvage them, and assuming you've unlocked a rare weapon card, use those parts to get it for your next run.

The bosses are tough, but fair. You can block, you can roll to dodge, and that's about it.


And in the end, when you mix all of that together, you get something that's well worth 10 dollars, in my humble opinion.

Just one more floor...

Eternal Step I believe is in reference to the amount of time it will take you to cut through all that invisible sand you are hitting when you swing your sword. Or maybe it's all the weights that must be weighing down your boots and causing your character to slog in slo-mo through the dungeon. That would also account for the reason your rolls are athletically on par with a truffle shuffle. If there is an in-game explanation for the name of this title I will not be finding it because the combat in this game is like trying to catch wind in a sail to steer a dump truck.

I would say this game is probably best described as free flash game quality usually reserved for kongregate and newgrounds and kept off of steam.

I bought on sale for $2.49 US and at that price point I am disappointed. Needless to say I would advise avoiding this at full price....possibly it's a push if you were to get this game for free along with a cookie for your trouble.

This is an excellent game with plenty of challenge. The boss fights are wonderfully choreographed with difficulty levels that at first seem unfair, but with visual cues you will learn to look for and from them learn the boss's weakness. Plenty of customization in builds using cards which drop through the levels.

The developers pay very close attention to the forums and respond/post thoughtfully. The game is well polished, but not perfect. However, I get the strong impression the kinks will be worked out, and further, that the devs have big plans in developing harder and harder bosses/levels as time goes on.

Buy it and love it!

Although the concept of keeping the qualities of found items but leaving them behind is interesting, its pretty much the only thing I liked about this game aside from the field of vision shifting based on your position. The combat is slow and enemies approach from the diagonals even when you can only face in the cardinal directions. You can't strafe so the only way around this is an item that lets you attack in an arc or luring enemies around a corner. It gets repetitive really fast. I know that can happen in a rogue-like, but with only one attack animation it just feels more tedious.

Speaking of animation, the art is basic and janky. In motion this game looks like something I should be playing on a flash game site and definitely not something I felt worthy of $10. This game feels very basic, which is why I didn't bother playing long before returning it.

Sorry Once More With Gusto, I wanted to like this game, I really did, but it just feels so bare bones that I couldn't get behind it.

I really enjoy this game. I am not the worlds greatest player, will probably never reach the highest floors but this game is continually entertaining. Although I have not progressed through enough floors to reach a check point I am still progressing and the game remains endlessly different. I frequently lose interest in games as I dont progress enough to get to different levels but this game allows you to experience different challenges and different floors each time. I like everything about it and would recommend it whole heartedly whether you are an expert game player or a novice (like me)

This was a very challenging game to beat, but I somehow defeated the current last boss and got to floor 123 in under 10 hours.

-This game is fast paced and forces the player to react quickly against various enemies and traps (calculated moves)
-Dodging (skill dodge or dodge roll) and blocking mechanics
-Wide variety of weapons, armors, shields and skills to choose from
-Enemies attacks are previewed with a yellow track which greatly helps the player to dodge or block attacks
-Level up system ensures that players will constantly make progress
-5 challenging but fair bosses (well designed)

Eternal Step took me about an hour to realize that I was absolutely going to love it. So don't write it off in the first 15 minutes.

If you like rogue like collecting games and you like to swiftly dodge out of the way of slime, I would recommend picking this game up for such a reasonable price.

Cool yet difficult rogue-y roguelikerson. You must climb a massive tower filled with tons of baddies and as you do so you'll aquire loot cards, special moves, and permanent stats bonuses. The controls take a little getting used to but work well with enough practice whether you use m&k or gamepad. The art style is quite unique and the music is nice but forgettable. Overall I'm having fun with the game and I recommend it, especially if you're a fan of other action roguelikes like Binding of Isaac or Nuclear Throne.

It is hard to put my finger on exactly what it is that leaves me cold regarding this game. I enjoy the action-roguelike genre, having put more hours than is healthy into Binding of Isaac, Our Darker Purpose and the like, but this entry doesn't really stack up well against either of the aforementioned. It seems unfair to say it's due to unappealing graphics, because an independant developer can only do so much and putting out anything at all is laudable. Items seem alright so far, and I've not progressed far enough to tell how much variety there is in what exists. Nor the controls; I messed them up myself thanks to wishing to use more than just the left hand while playing, so any following issues with menu navigation are a personal fault. And the soundtrack as heard so far is servicable, no better than that but certainly no worse.

It is a good game. That might be the problem though: it's only good. In today's indie market one is placed in direct competition with excellence at comparable prices. Whether an average experience is enough to satiate a player is a matter of personal taste, but I am left with deep buyer's remorse.

TL/DR: 5/10. Maybe get this if you're desperate for something to fill the gap while waiting for other games? Or have played alternatives to exhaustion?
