I AM THE LAW
Life in the cubes!
good game
Closest we'll get to timesplitters on pc, genuinely a great game though regardless of if you are a Judge Dredd fan or not
I hate it. At first, it looks promising (it seems to be an old version of 'Ready or Not' mixed with 'Killing Floor'). But then it loses balance, removes the capture mechanics, and goes all in on Killing Floor-style gameplay. The result? The game gets old fast. Why? Because, unlike Killing Floor, most enemies in this game are bland, either walking toward you or jumping at you. The only good enemies are humans since the AI is kind of smart, they take cover or run for their weapon if disarmed. But, since they remove capture mechanics after a few maps (which also means no more capturable human enemies), there’s nothing to do except shoot, literally just shooting. It gets boring way too fast.
Boss fights are a joke. None of them can be killed by normal shooting. Instead, you have to defeat them using specific conditions, which makes no sense. It’s ridiculous when normal mobs are more challenging than the bosses.
The game runs well, memories of this game are solid, thank you Steam for hosting this game.
Played it first on ps 2 and it still holds up, great voice acting
love the comics & boy the devs do too. It was a fun ride, highly recommend.

Positives:
- Attractive female characters.
- Aggressively masculine.
- Get to arrest liberals for the crime of liberalism in the first 15 minutes. Based.
Negatives:
- The jump button only works when it feels like it.
Final thoughts:
I can overlook a lot in a game this based, but having a jump button that doesn't work properly is kind of a deal breaker.
This is a janky console-to-PC port, or maybe it wasn't fully QA tested. Who knows. Shooting doesn't feel smooth. Bullets are underpowered, but your punch is an instant kill. Movement is cumbersome, which makes evading fast enemies annoying. Moving in any direction but forward is excruciating. Jumping also is broken as you often get snagged on tiny bits of geometry, and will have to walk backwards to unsnag yourself like this is a shitty PS1 game with tank controls. Unique ammo types and shooting weapons out of enemies' hands are fantastic ideas, but this game is not worth a recommendation, even priced at 95 cents.
On the plus side, the widescreen patch does work though. Get that mod if you do intend on playing this.
It is a fun and enjoyable shooter.
Review from GoG
A simple B-tier shooter.
Not even sure how quite to begin here. Well, first off, its a budget FPS from 20 years ago that was mainly designed for consoles. The PC port is fine, nothing wrong here, but there is a certain "clunkyness" that you notice when playing these types of games.
So the best part of the game, from my perspective, was the soundtrack. Either super chill tunes and pretty pumped up tracks.
Secondary of note would probably be the setting. I know Judge Dredd is pretty much forgotten by people nowadays, but its still a pretty interesting setting about a cop trying to keep order in a super over sized semi-dystopian city. But in the game you dont really get to feel the grittyness of the city as it is portrayed in other media. It feels like just some futuristic city.
The game offers 3 main game modes - story, arcade, multiplayer. I only played through the campaign.
Its rather short, beatable in about 4 hours, give or take.
The main goal of missions is to achieve a higher score. You do that by fulfilling objectives in a mission and being a good cop. That means arresting perpetrators, saving citizens, avoiding extra casualties. And its less fun being a good cop than just shooting down enemies.
You could just ignore the scoring and go around taking down enemies. It wont effect the story.
I understand they wanted to incorporate being a cop into the gameplay, but I cant say it worked out.
You have your main gun for fighting, which has several ammo types. Some of them I didnt bother using at all. And you can pick up a secondary, which is useful as you probably wont have enough ammo to deal with everyone with your main gun.
Your health can also go down quickly if you receive too much melee or sustained fire.
Levels can feel a bit too "coridor" if you know what I mean.
The story is alright, but too compressed to be truly entertaining.
While its alright as a budget game of its time, nowadays only people who are interested in Dredd or the atmosphere of early 2000s games should bother. For the current price, though, it has enough character to warrant a thumbs up.
6/10
Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death is the pinnacle of a six out of ten ps2 game. It's trashy, it's janky, it's generic and it's actually a decent amount of fun. The basic, fairly barren levels and junky futuristic dystopian aesthetic coupled with the generic weapons, are reminiscent of Deus Ex: Invisible War. Yet through all of this, the dark doomed world and humor capture the world of Judge Dredd. Though the jump button sucks and you can't take screenshots during cutscenes, the game isn't very buggy (aside from some questionable pathfinding from companion npcs), the shooting is solid and the weapon selection contains a handful of fun guns like a sniper rifle/machine gun, a tommygun, a solid shotgun, a very fun grenade launcher and of course Dredd's classic gun with 5 different bullet types. Additionally the music was alright. The campaign is short and sweet, containing mechanics like enemies who surrender, perps to be arrested, and a legality meter that will send Judges after you if you go down to 0. Exploring the ridiculous maps like the Smokatorium and watching the at first boring plot that goes from 0-100 very quickly are fun. My main qualm is that the game leans too heavily into generic tropes like vampire enemies and zombies; there could have been a bit more variety. But for the short length it makes sense. Outside of the campaign there is a multiplayer gamemode and an arcade mode. I was only able to try the latter but I wasn't very impressed. This game is like junkfood, it's cheap, it ain't very good for ya, but most bites tasty pretty good. Get it on sale if you like Judge Dredd or PS2 FPS games.
I remember playing this as a kid on the original xbox and never being able to get past the second mission, even with my dad helping. We both had fun, but it was rather frustrating. Saw it on sale for less than a pound, figured I'd give it a try.
Yeah... turns out I didn't know how to aim for the head back then
sentenced an obese woman to life for obstruction
Sylvester Stallone's Dredd was too corny while Karl Urban's Dredd was too gritty, the world of Dredd in the comics is as silly, colourful and fun as it is serious, bleak and depressing, a balance that is often near impossible to maintain especially in a live action movie format. Rebellion's take on the franchise feels like the closest most faithful adaptation of the comics available so far. From the music, sound and atmosphere down to the dialogue, story and insane attention to detail it's pretty obvious the dev team know and love the source material and while the gameplay (especially controls) does feel quite clunky and unresponsive once you get into the mindset of being Dredd and experiencing Mega-City One through the eyes of a Judge dealing with a bad case of tuesday apocalypse you'll see there's nothing else like it!
I am the law.
I dunno dauwg, it feels like "Rebellion" is a bit of an an overrated developer. They had some ok games in the early 2000s, but nothing special. Then they decided to milk the Sniper Elite Franchise, which peaked at Sniper Elite 2 IMO (it wasn't so corny yet, and more of a serious game, which I liked). Judge Dredd is another "ok" game in a long list of "ok" games from this developer.
fun game that more should play. and if you do play it come in with an open mind. dont expect revolutionary consepts just exept itfor a good game
truly a classic game i hope nightdive dose a remake or at lest we need more games from the judge dredd franchise
Пожалуй единственная доступная на данный момент игра во вселенной "Судьи Дредда". Игра морально и графически устарела, но блин как же круто по завершении миссии слышать "Я - закон!"
Bit too dated... I do still own the release poster... 2000AD rules OK
Not the best fps if you're thinking of getting it for that reason but it is a fun, decent game that you could knock out in a single playthrough. Pain in the a## to map it to a controller but I have not personally run into any bugs or crashes. If you're a 2000AD/Dredd fan like me then it's a must like the Rogue Trooper game cause I doubt Rebellion will ever make another 2000AD based game. Plus you can arrest basically everyone when it lets you which is fun😆. THE CRIME IS LIFE...THE SENTENCE IS BUYING THIS GAME!
LIFE!!!!!
Fun hidden gem. Often on sale for 99 cents.

worked for me on Windows 10.
Personally, I think this is one of the most entertaining and coolest comic-based games out there, the atmosphere is futuristic and dystopian and they could make it very beautifully with lots of gorgeous pre-rendered backgrounds. definitely play this if you are a fan of older FPS games and based.
i can arrest fat ppl
Does not work on Steamdeck
Just crashes on start up.
A blast from my past. Loved this game in my youth as I am a huge Dredd fan. Thought I'd give it a go despite it being such an old game, I don't usually have an issue with them, but this one just wouldn't work right.
The jump issue is well discussed, but all solutions put forward in the discussion lists didn't work and the game actually crashed my PC. So no, despite it being a fun game do not buy it and save yourself the hassle.
one of my childhood faves
i never review games but this ones a really fun game just bought it at random for the offline bots but im really enjoying the campaign so far its not re inventing the wheel but shooting punks and zombies is hella satisfying with the rag doll physics super goofy and fun
Right hooking old ladies is fun.
Disclaimer: didn't get very far into the game, maybe just a few missions. I personally found the game mechanics to be far too dated and unfun to play in 2024. However, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the comedy at the start (i.e. the impunity with which you can apply the law), the story seemed somewhat interesting and the cutscenes were cool enough. The combat was a huge drag though, even though the weapon selection had promise. Would recommend this game if you're into this kind of semi-retro (but not boomer shooter) FPS game with clunky controls but interesting surrounding lore and atmosphere.
fun game, the lawgiver is iconic
life in the cube, throwaway the key
Weirdly, just kinda works on my high end AMD system.
I played this back on the original XBOX, and it was a bit rough. It wasn't terrible, but at the time, I was hot off playing a whole lot of Timesplitters 2... which is one of the best FPS ever made, if you can get beyond the slightly weird aiming.
This game actually feels a bit like TS2 in some ways. At the time I don't think I noticed it as much, but now, nearly 20 years later, it has that same vibe... a bit serious, a bit tongue in cheek, weapons all feel decent, plenty of voice acting, enemy models kinda dodge around. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised.
I wouldn't call it a classic, but if you like Dredd, you might like this. It's got plenty of little nods to the larger comic series, and taking some shots at a perp so he and his buddies drop their weapons so you can arrest them is cool. The game isn't exactly tough, but it's not so easy as modern games either - health pickups are rare, so if you find a med judge, you'll need to interact with them to heal you, then again for a med pack. Health goes fast, so you need to be aggressive and accurate, cuz your shield is very, very limited. Checkpoints are decently placed, which is also good, cuz AI is pretty stupid and when you're trying to get people to follow you, sometimes they'll get stuck, and you can just reload and make up a few minutes. This, ladies and gentlemen, was AI pathfinding in the early 2000s.
So. Yeah. Knowing how cheap this is, could be worth a shot. And knowing what Rebellion became, I wish this would get a remake or sequel, cuz their Sniper Elite stuff feels incredibly tight and a little polish would really make this game shine.
Classic old game: nothing complicated or complex, short at ~5 hours and a good time throughout. And cheap to boot. 8/10
hhj
Great to play this game for the first time in almost 20yrs.
Always enjoyed the Judge Dredd franchise, and I think this game is a great edition to that.
Played very well on the Steam Deck
you can arrest people for being too fat, 10/10
In terms of a actual review Judge Dredd: DvD is a pretty decent game but it comes from a odd time where Devs seemed to have this obsession with giving you a bunch of toys but little ammo for them or letting you only use them in very specific circumstances.
The lawgiver for instance, a gun you can change firemodes on at will. you don't get very many options with it due to ammo shortages and will find yourself making use of the various firearms bad guys drop for your taste of variety, a unique choice i guess but part of the schtick of Judge Dredd was always how the Lawgiver gave an answer for any situation but sacrifices for game balance i suppose.
This isn't really a bad thing but i feel like it really limited one of the core experiences you'd want being a street judge.
Presentation wise the game does a good job depicting mega city, at least when you're outside and get to experience it. Theres many a level with boring corridors and interior cells though not all are bad, the shopping mall for example is a shining exception.
Gameplay wise its a straightforward shooter with some fun sub systems like the ability to analyze and judge civilians and perps and act accordingly to their crimes.
If i had a big gripe it would probably be the crux of the story, i never liked Judge Death and his cronies in the comics. Found them a bit too mystical for what is otherwise a somewhat grounded (but very silly at times) setting with them having straight up ghost powers and such but as far as big bad evil guys to have as villains that stand out you can't really shoot much bigger than them.
If theres any big issues with the game its dated controls and hardware compatibility issues which fortunately the steam release did try and alleviate but some still persist (namely odd NPC behaviors and getting stuck in or even falling through levels) but usually a reload of the level solves this...usually.
Short game but fun if you enjoy the comics. Always enjoyed graphics from this era and mega city one looks nice. Not too many enemy varieties. Mostly becomes a zombie shooter. After the horrors of the atomic wars redbull seems to be one of the only companies that survives, Dredd is clearly not a fan of the in game advertisement. "This rampant consumerism makes my skin crawl."
it's a fucking meat grinder, when the meat comes out comes to another.
