If you don't mind moving like you're on ice and smart fckn NPCs, its a good game
Game feels older than it should, the movement feels weird and clunky, you leave the key for moving forward and the character keeps sliding for a bit. There are 8 missions total plus 1 that unlocks after you finish the game, every missions is split into sub-missions, usually from 3 to 5. The story is pretty bland and nothing really interesting happens. The only thing that saves the game is the sniping slow-mo, which is sincerely fun and addicting and never gets old. Overall I had fun and I recommend the game if you want to know how the series started. Looking forward to play the next games in the franchise.
I wish there was a middle thumb rather than just thumbs up or thumbs down since there is a lot in this game that really makes a true gem among old school games but I hate to say that it wasn't very fun. 2005 Was a while ago so who cares about bug and what not, that was years ago but for PC at least in this day in age it works... OK and no further.

I had zero issues running the game on win11, and it's directx8, I suggest checking the PCGW page if you're having issues.
the game mostly serves as a worthy proof of concept that would lead to the otherwise great sniper elite series.
the game is incredibly clunky. the ai constantly bounces between blind and omniscient, and the movement is straight up bad. karl runs like he's a freight train powered by vegetable oil. i have no idea what the devs were trying to do there. the stealth is otherwise okay, i guess. it is interesting to see the origins of the classic bullet cam that we have in the sniper elite series today.
another problem is length. the game entirely overstays its welcome and becomes an outright slog at points.
if you're a fan of the series, this'll really test your patience, with all the jank and all. it's completely unnecessary as SNV2 serves as a soft reboot of the series and this one isn't really connected to it at all, so you can skip it with little consequence if you're not a completionist.
Excellent game! Terrific graphics and game play.
Just the game mechanics were bleeding edge when this puppy was released but it has aged well and I play it through once a year now.
Terrible. Save your money and skip to V2 instead.
Very inglorious move to make an achievement in Sniper Elite 3 to own 3 of first Sniper Elite games, forcing players to buy more. So I only bought this because of achievement and it sucks. The game is really bad even considering it's old and all this..
So basically my main complaint is because of achievement forcing to make more profit for devs. Shame on you! Achievements never should be pay to win
I know it is a 20-year-old game, there are classics out there that are still worth playing, but this one is totally skippable. Voice acting is weird, gameplay and controls are clunky, 16:9 looks stretched
I wish I could recommend this however I tried playing it even downloading a file recommended for fixes. However, the majority of my playtime was just TRYING to do the first mission, I say trying because I was constantly bombarded with tutorial messages as I was going through the map, I also shot a tank nowhere near me and the explosion killed me, and when I went to reload it said I had NO saves even though the game had said that I had been saving.
very low space requirement i havent finished it yet but im about to stream the whole thing yayyyy
It's alright.

vey clasic game which i enjoy
I had a really good time with this game. It is obviously from the early 2000s but yet the graphics are still good looking, gameplay is smooth (literally smooth because you're skating all over the place), and sniping is very satisfying. It was great to see the beginnings of the Sniper Elite series. 7/10 for me.
This is by far the best Sniper Elite game there has been. The first game is gritty, cold, violent, and realistic. No fancy action heroics the later games create. At times, it almost feels like a survival game, and this is why it nails the lone operative in Berlin of 1945 scenario perfectly. I wish the series would divert back towards that approach instead.
Obviously, it's from 2005, the graphics are dated, and there are some bugs with enemy patrols, but still LOADS of fun. Highly recommended.
Berlin ice skating torture simulator
holy shit, this aged horribly. just start with the second/third.
I wanted Sniper Elite. I got Ice Skating Simulator 2005.
Excellent game for when it came out. Don't want to play now especially when the maps are already in Sniper Elite 2 and I have played that earlier
i got it on sale, did not expect somethign as fun as this :D it albeit a little unstable on windows 10/11 it can be fixed and after fixing some of the small problems with compatibility it is very fun
Being a masochist is one thing but this is like willingly taking a splintered broom up the rectum and down the urethra simultaneously.
A historical game I played since young.
The first Sniper Elite game I ever played was Sniper Elite V2, so I didn't have high expectations delving into the original. However, the game surprised me.
This game holds up unbelievably well in most aspects including graphics, sound and map design, and of course, gunplay. The high quality textures astonished me and I honestly can't believe this game is from 2005.
It's immediately noticeable that this game will absolutely not hold your hand. It's much more hardcore compared to its sequels and it sort of reminds me of the early Hitman games. The missions are fun and diverse and have you doing different things every time, so it doesn't feel repetitive by the end.
The movement is a bit off, the enemy AI a bit too crazy and notices you too easily and you need to mess with config files and patches to get it to run right, but considering the game's age, one shouldn't be too surprised.
I recommend this classic.
CONTROLS ARE CRAPPY BUT THAT IS HOW RETRO GAMES ARE ....
SVGA GRAPHICS ALLOWS SAVES
In my opinion on this game I think its very outdated not only in the graphics but in AI and game play. I tried to enjoy it but it so hard not to due to many levels feeling the same expect some levels. I also think the difficultly can be so unforgiving and a pain. even after 15 hours i still think you should find another sniper game instead of this. I may not be a fan of the sniper elite franchise but I think that this game is not good in today's standards. This here review is how I feel about and not to make people angry who do like this game. So I personally don't recommend it but it doesn't you shouldn't buy it.
Amazing game amazing ambience childhood game of mine goated music amazing stealth game amazing plot amazing history game
If you've played all the other World War II shooters and are looking for something a little different, you'll enjoy Sniper Elite as long as you have the time and patience to really get the most out of it. If you have an itchy trigger finger and love gratuitous explosions and heavy weaponry, you'll probably want to pass on this game. However, if you like stealth games you'll find a lot to like in Sniper Elite.
Well well well, this game is pretty awesome.
The ambientation it gives you, is pretty well made. You can hear bombing, gunfire, tanks going around and people screaming.
Controls and dynamics of the game are well made, no important bugs or glitches that i could find. But movements of the character seem a bit clinky. Other than that, pretty good campaign.
9/10
If you don't have high demands on graphics, this is the right place for you.
Good sniper game for relatively little money.
Old but good
Sniper Elite Review

Introduction
Sniper Elite, developed by Rebellion, is a third-person shooter that combines tactical shooting mechanics with a detailed approach to sniper simulation. First released in 2005, the game quickly gained notoriety for its strategic gameplay and attention to detail in combat simulation. Sniper Elite is the first entry in a successful series that would continue to expand and refine its concept over the years. With an emphasis on realism and precision, Sniper Elite offers an intense and immersive gaming experience for fans of strategic shooting and tactical combat.
Graphics and Design
The graphic design of Sniper Elite was impressive for its time, and has managed to maintain a high standard even in its subsequent releases. The game features detailed and vast environments that are designed to offer multiple options for approach. From city ruins to dense battlefields, the environments are well-crafted and help to create a sense of immersion.
Characters and enemies are modeled with attention to detail, and animations are realistic, which adds to the authenticity of combat. The game uses a ballistics system that accurately simulates the trajectory of bullets, taking into account factors such as distance, gravity and wind. This mechanic is visually represented in an impressive way, especially during the "X-Ray Kill Cam" moments, where players can watch the impact of bullets in impressive anatomical detail.
Gameplay
Sniper Elite's gameplay is a sophisticated combination of tactics, strategy and precision. The game focuses on delivering an authentic sniper experience, with an emphasis on planning, patience and accuracy. Players are challenged to use the environment to their advantage, choose strategic positions and carefully calculate the right moment to fire.
The controls are responsive and allow for a high degree of precision when lining up shots. The game offers a variety of sniper rifles, each with distinct characteristics, and players can customize them with different attachments and upgrades. The ballistics mechanics are deep and realistic, requiring players to consider factors such as target distance, wind speed, and inclination when firing.
In addition to ranged combat, Sniper Elite also features close-quarters and stealth combat sections, where players can use infiltration tactics and silent attacks. This diversity of mechanics keeps the gameplay interesting and allows for different styles of approach.
Story and Story
Sniper Elite’s narrative is set during World War II, following protagonist Karl Fairburne, an Allied sniper who must carry out crucial missions against enemy forces. The story is told through missions and dialogue, and provides a solid context for the player’s actions.
While the storyline is not the main focus of the game, it provides an engaging and motivating backdrop for the combat. Missions are well structured and often include varied objectives that add depth to the story and the challenges faced by players.
Multiplayer and Replayability
Sniper Elite's multiplayer mode is a significant addition to the game, allowing players to compete against others in tactical sniper battles. The multiplayer modes offer a combat experience focused on precision and strategy, and the addition of varied maps and modes ensures a competitive and fun experience.
The game's replayability is high due to the variety of missions, the ability to try out different strategies, and the presence of additional challenges and achievements. Players can revisit missions to try new approaches, complete secondary objectives, and hone their skills. The presence of a ranking system and achievements also provides additional incentives to keep playing and hone their skills.
Conclusion
Sniper Elite is a tactical shooter experience that stands out for its attention to detail and realistic approach to sniper simulation. Developed by Rebellion, the game offers a well-balanced combination of tactics, precision, and strategy, with stunning graphic design and engaging gameplay. With its variety of mechanics, solid narrative, and competitive multiplayer mode, Sniper Elite is highly recommended for shooter fans looking for a deep and rewarding experience.
I hope this review provides a clear insight into the qualities of Sniper Elite and highlights what makes the game special!
I would not bother with this one, and just get one of the later games. V2 is already much easier to jump into with more modern controls. Very poor first impression - it is just too dated/controls too weird.
i like shooting guys from far away and watching the bullet go towards them and hit them
Maybe a good game back then but too old now. Graphics are meh, story seems flat from the start, and gameplay isn't really fun anymore. Game felt really clunky and stealth doesn't seem to be part of it, despite playing a sniper game. SEV2 is the real entry to the franchise nowadays, hence why it's called "V2". Couldn't get myself into it after 30 mins. And the icy ground glitch made it harder to play lol... (there's a fix if it's worth the trouble to you)
Just to keep it real, don't bother playing it for any reason other than nostalgia. Its old, clunky, and not needed to play to understand the later games.
.
Buggy, crashes a lot, and the gameplay is pretty cheap.
I'm gonna see if the sequel is any better.
If you want a game in this style from this era, I would recommend Death To Spies instead.
Controls make this game annoying rather than fun, the character continues walking a few meters after you stop pressing any WASD key, like other reviews say, it is like ice skating
Good graphics but horrible and dated gameplay, you'll only like this if you're a masochist.
like me.
having blast playing this. its more difficult than modern sniper elite. cause color so bland making enemies and environtment seems alike, making it more difficult to spotting enemies unit. very challenging yet fun to play
I hope they would make a remake or a remastered version of this game. The game was very gold but it is so old.
every sniper elite game is awesome
Games alright but controls like complete gape. Who in their right mind decided that your movement speed be decided by the scroll wheel, what an error. I think I'd rather have my eye liked by a tree frog and have hamsters run amok in my gut and re-arrange my anus
"Sniping's a good job mate. It's challenging work, out of doors, I guarantee you'll not go angry, because at the end of the day as long as there's two people left on the planet, someone is gonna want someone dead."
