Story
In ages past, five kingdoms ruled the known world. Each kingdom possessed a sacred relic given to the kings of old by the god themselves. The relics guided and protected their armies in battles. As time passed, younger kings desired to gain absolute power of the land and waged countless wars with each other. The gods were displeased with the reckless actions and greed each kingdom took part in, so they took back the relics, hid them in a large tower, and proclaimed: "Whomever is able to pass the challenges of this tower will become the ruler of all known land." Years passed. generations passed. No one, man woman, or child has been able to complete the challenges within the tower. This is the story of one such adventurer, Wing, and his Adventure in the Tower of Flight.

This game is short and sweet! There isn't much you need to know before jumping in. I personally thought it would follow the Kid Icarus influence to a T, but the gameplay honestly reminds me more of Kirby sometimes. Either way, it has a modest goal as a game and delivers on it with some surprisingly solid gameplay.
With the same enemies being seen throughout the whole thing, it's the level design and fun character tools that really make this game for me. The air movement and fighting really opens up for you once you get the dash attack early-game. In fact, I think this could make a good speed game, and someone else should try running this. I would have liked certain things implemented more often, like branching paths and more intensive tests of your flying abilities.
I'm glad I finally sat down to give this one a shot, I saw there's DLC planned and I hope that launch goes well.

While this game can be fun and engaging, it suffers from a major identity crisis. It was as if the developer was unable to decide whether to create a retro style platformer or a metroidvania, resulting in a weird sort of amalgamation that isn't really optimal. The linear nature of the tower prevents exploring and checkpoints are spaced pretty far apart. At the same time, the reused room and disorienting nature of your path will have you wondering multiple times whether or not the journey can be over yet despite the fact that the game can be beaten in about 3 hours.
Approach this game with caution and only during a sale. It presents a decent challenge and can be an interesting play, but the mixed genre nature leaves more to be desired.
A moderately epic tribute to the early days of 8-bit. Snappy controls, creative level design, and moderate replayability highlight a platformer that's worth your time (and the asking price).
I mean, the story is godawful, but that too is faithful to the era that the game is emulating. And you're not buying ultra-retro games for the story.
This game really needs to be better-known.
WARNING: If you just get a black screen on startup, you might be tempted to put "-screen-fullscreen 0" in the launch options to force it into windowed mode. DON'T DO THIS! It will delete your save files for some incomprehensible reason! Instead, you need to press enter, wait for the sound to finish, press down twice, then enter to go to options, wait for the sound, then press down and enter to switch to windowed mode. After that, you can switch back to fullscreen mode and it will work normally. If you remember to switch it back to windowed mode before you exit. I could poke around in the game settings file to try and switch it to windowed mode, but I'm afraid of what it might do if it detects that...
Once you get past that bug, it's a fun, simple platformer with nice pixel graphics and above average music.
Not bad, not good, but still is worth a shot. I might have find some fun, or it's the nostalgia talking again... I'm not sure.
In fact, a little more of polishment would be very welcome ( some items have no description, could use a better map, this kind of stuff...)
This is a pretty good game. My only complaint is that it's doesn't support xbone wireless using the wireless dongle. I had to use joy2key. The dev should revisit the game and allow xbone wireless compatability.
Nice retro platformer. I usually gravitate towards really tough platformer. I'm thankful the dev included several difficulty levels as normal seems a bit relaxed.
Pretends to have replay-value with all the achievements that require multiple runs, sadly it doesn't have it. Mediocre game, worth the 1,59€ when it is on sale, never buy it for the full price
A great game, that I would definitly recommend to those who enjoy retro styled gamplay. I'm really looking forward to a sequal as there are a few little improvements needed and I'm sure the creator would nail that in a sequal.
The game is a little bit short but quite fun. It took me 6 hours to beat the game and I unlocked about half of the achievments doing so. Sadly the game does not allow you to continue your save file past beating the end boss. So you can't go back to get all the max health items if you missed them the first go around. Its very linear and does not allow for much back tracking at all.
The game isn't very difficult, bosses patterns are easily learned and sometimes completely avoidable. The only way to save your game is to game over at the last check point you used. This is annoying but you get use to it quickly. Game play is similar to Kid Icarus but gives a little more varity in weapons and attacks. The 7.99 price tag is a little bit high for how easy of a game it is. However, if you find it on sale definately pick it up.
I found binding the attack and hover abilities to the back buttons on the Steam Controller. I also rebound the Dpad to the analogue stick. If you have a Steam controller save yourself the time and use my template for it.
I found this game from the failed RETRO VGS indiegogo. I can say that it would not be worth paying $25+ but it is a good game for around $3-5.
As a fan of Nintendo's NES Kid Icarus, the art and gameplay of Tower of Flight drew me in right away, as this is exactly the type of game I was hoping to play in the retro style. The flight and fun gameplay especially is appealing to me. Something that is very easy to get the hang up within a minute or less, but has plenty of adventure and fun elements to keep me playing as a fan of adventure action games. The controls are responsive and if I goof up, it's my lack of game play skill that's to blame most of the time. The graphics are nicely drawn sprites, with sharp sound and music.
Only VERY minor complaint in the entire game would be that when your health is near 0, the warning health chimes keep beeping till you get more health. Problem with that, much as in Assassin's Creed 1, is you might go for a long while before getting a health up, so it becomes part of the music and is an unnecessary sound, acting as a constant warning that the player is already likely aware of; get more health! But it's not a deal breaker and once you get your health up, it thankfully disappears. I don't think there's an option to turn it off, but not a big deal consider the rest of the game is great fun.
I wasn't sure how the game saves progress, but thankfully when you contact the winged spheres, once they fly up, you have saved your progress. There are Knights that give you tips if you need them also. To conclude, you gain new abilities and go through many castles and different underwater maps, facing all kinds of fun enemies from fish, butterflies to globs that spit, and more. If you're looking for a fun retro style adventure game, Tower of Flight is an excellent choice. Really enjoying the game and do not regret my purchase.
Very whimsical and entertaining. A Kid Icarus style game with great controls and lighter difficulty (at least in Normal mode). Flight mechanic is fun, especially when you get the dash boots.

With great pixel art and charming, 8 bit music, Adventure in the Tower of Flight hearkens back to the old school RPGs of yesteryear. Gameplay is decently challenging without becoming too annoying, the items and equipment are satisfying, and the story is enough to keep you interested. However, the story is my biggest criticism. There's not much there, and a bit more being added would make me like this a lot more. The ever-classic rescue of a damsel would have been a superb and fitting addition to this game, one which I would highly recommend adding in a patch to add more depth to the story. But, overall, it's a nostalgic, decently produced game that will take a few hours for a play through, definitely worth the sale price I paid for it, and a fair deal at the regular price, as well. Trading cards are also a huge plus. Recommended.
It's... okay. If you're a fan of retro platformers, you'll probably like this game. The problem is, though, that the genre is just oversaturated to the point where a retro platformer needs to really be execeptional or really unique to stand out. Unfortunately, Adventure in the Tower of Flight doesn't really make itself stand out.

The game is fun enough for what it is. The two main differences here are 1, you can fly from the beginning and 2, you occasionally pick up upgrades as you go through the game. It's almost like a metroidvania lite in that aspect, but you don't have an open world to explore like in a metroidvania. Once you leave a room, the only way to go is forward.
There's also a shop, but it's kinda lame. You save and you save and you don't get anything really interesting out of it. Useful, sure, but not interesting.
It's not great but it's not bad, but I think it's better picked up on a sale.
This is a wonderful title. I'm reminded of 8-bit dungeon and tower adventures from the 80's and 90's. The soundtrack is very well done, and the color palette and gameplay keep things engaging for the player. Very enjoyable.
A really well crafted retro platformer that gets right what so many miss when trying to emulate this type of game. Tight controls and reasonable difficulty means that you want to keep coming back to try that area again and again and if you die, you know it's probably your fault.
This game has influences from several major titles, all of which were gems. You have an overall feel of Kid Icarus in the level designs and setting. A flight mechanic similar to Gargoyle's Quest which challenges you to constantly think about how you can squeeze just a little more flight power out of your character to make it to that treasure and sword play straight out of The Legend of Zelda. Couple that with a spot on 8-bit graphic style and music and you have a game that really has the potential to launch a series of fun adventure platformers.
If you love these types of games, you can't go wrong with this one. Worth every penny of the asking price.
Classic pick up and play style that takes one back to good old NES era of gaming. Ever had that one coin that's just barely out of reach, that you gotta get even if it kills you?... hehe this is one of those games. Fun, addictive and well woth the price. Controller is recommended
Adventure in the Tower of Flight is a great game and all I can say is Shovel Knight and Zelda had a baby with wings!
And this game is totally worth the price.
i own over 350 games on steam and i have never took the time to write a review on a game. this game is just so great that i had to give it praise. if you liked the zeldas for nes then you will love this game. i havent put in alot of hours yet because i just got it. but it is turning out to be my favorite game in my inventory. so i hope people play it its worth the money in my book for sure. i wish i had 100 more games just like it.
Update: Completed Game Review
Ok as this game stands it's good but not great.
First off the gameplay is solid at first, you can fly as long as your meter is full (which can be exploited a bit when you figure out to tap the the jump button). although the hit detection of your sword is a very short range and can get annoying when you move up to enemies to hit them only to get hit yourself. Once you get the dash attack ability (Has you dash in any 4 directions) the game gets an increase in enjoyment when it come to gameplay.
The Item shop, (after you buy the Health increase) is useless. For coins you can get a health refill (Enemies drop health, sooooooooo..... pointless?) an extra life(if you run out you just start back at the last check point you crossed, plus unlimited continues), and for feathers you can get a magic feather (that makes you invulnerable for 15 seconds.......... right after you leave the shop...... wait WHAT? o_O) and a magic potion that refills your hearts once they run out (AKA fairy in a bottle).
Some enemies are programed in Unnecessary Bull shit that seeps at their very maw........ ok mostly just the flying enemies. The butterfly's do make it difficult in the beginning since the range of your sword is short, and they fly at you in a Boo like fashion from mario bros. Seriously screw butterfly's.
Update: Or maybe I just suck, but you know what, I ABSOLUTELY HATE THOSE DAMN BAT'S THAT FLY FROM THE EDGE OF THE SCREEN IN THE LAST LEVEL. SCREW YOU! YOU F***ING BATS!!!
And that's the only thing I hate from the final level - end anger enduced rant
There are also some area's that will leave you confused, since you have to remeber where you have been and if you go through the wrong door, the door behind you closes and you have to trek through that area all over again just to get back at the area that has multiple doors. Not too much of a problem for me, but for some that could get annoying.
Progession is Great, as you keep going up the game will get progressivly harder, but it seems it's mostly at your pace. Once you learn to deal with some enemies naturally over time, you feel more confident then when it gets to the next area it adds another difficulty. This is pretty solid right here.
Once you get an item that has you charge up your sword....... it takes way to long it seems and just seems to leave you open and is only effective towards one enemy that can be easily avoided.
Update - I was told by the developers that they fixed the sword charging problem, Great job guys. This made me want to use the charge up way more, and once fixed made combat enjoyable again........... except for the bats in the final level.
Update: Bosses are cool looking but can sometimes seem exploitve. I was able to find parts of the bosses where you could find an area to just hang out and spam your attacks. But that could also be a necessity since sometimes the bosses attack paths seemed ridiculous to dodge. Like the Total Biscuit Butterfly Boss battle, that would spawn Little Biscuits to attack you...... I'm still wondering why Total Biscuit was a butterfly. Final Boss was definetly the best part of the boss battles, I won't spoil anything but he's a good fresh challenge.
So overall The game is good, but not something that you should go out of your way to get.
Update: I do love the fact that the developers were able to hear out their audience and fix some problems, and I understand that they cannot go back and make the magic feather of invicibility a more useful item since that might entail changing code which could cause the game to glitch or crash. But thanks again Pixel Barrage for improving after release.

Update: I still stand by my original conclusion, though Pixel Barrage willing to hear the criticizm and improve upon the game from those remarks, definetly gets a plus in my book.
If you're looking for a new sidescroller, get it.
If you're interested but have some doubt's from the price, you can pass it and get it later.
It's really nothing you need now, but can be fun at times
