I think i remember playing this game on ABCya.
The online version was much harder, and frustrating then the one on Steam.
It's very fun, and if you have some time to kill, I think it's a steal.
TLDR: A very good puzzle game that makes my brain feel like it's being scrubbed with a fancy sponge for a mental spa day
Pros:
- Focused on purely mechanical puzzles
- it feels like lockpicking almost (the SFX probably adds to that) like cracking a safe open
- It's super satisfying!
- You can breeze through the first 40 and then once all the mechanics overlap you have to take a bit longer on each one
- Whenever I was stumped, i just had to put the game down for a little bit then when I came back to it I would have that "AH-HA" moment and then be on a roll for 4-7 more puzzles
- each puzzle was so interestingly made and fun to take apart bit by bit
Neutral:
- Since it's black and white it's very easy to make out the background from the puzzle, but some of the more visually busy ones might be hard for visual impairment? (It also might be fine so take this with a grain of salt)
Cons:
- I can't think of any ( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧
This game is genuinely the most peaceful, zen puzzle game I have ever played. I'll freely admit that I'm not usually a puzzle game sort of person, but for some reason the simple mechanics, progressively increasing difficulty, clean and interesting patterns, excellent sound effects.... I dunno. It's an incredibly satisfying to play and progress. I highly recommend it!
Simple, Relaxing, Puzzler
With charmingly humble gameplay, Hook has over 50+ levels to play. over time it increases the difficulty via adding additional functions, with three lives until a reset. Hook persuades you to think through & plan out your next steps carefully.
Nice little puzzle game
Lovely puzzle game, starts out simple and increases in complexity, introducing additional mechanics as you solve more. Just the right amount of difficulty without being frustrating and still being engaging.
70 levels, really nice difficulty ramp. 2 hours of content which is great for a £1 puzzle game. I am not very good at puzzle games and I didn't have to search up a guide, so that was cool too. super satisfying when you finally finish it and your brain stops hurting
Game description matches the experience. The puzzles are fun and the challenge is mostly minimal. The later puzzles require several steps and planning ahead, but most puzzles can be completed in just a few minutes. I completed all of them in less then 2 hours, but the game is priced accordingly.
Holy Shit, I Did it!
69 Levels
And I took a 2 Hour Break, With it Left Open.
A short, fun, simple puzzle game.
Beware of mimicry
Simple enough to learn but difficult enough to make you have to take a step back to analyse what goes where and how to get through a stage.
Puzzle game that dont need an exact order to solve
Short, sweet, and incredibly satisfying. Hook delivers an elegant puzzle experience that’s both challenging and calming. The minimalist visuals and smooth mechanics make it a joy to play. It’s the kind of game you can finish in one sitting, but you’ll enjoy every second of it. Highly recommended for puzzle lovers!
A good brain challenge.
TL;DR
8/10 Simple rules and controls with minimal/abstract visuals and complex puzzle design. Wish there was just more of it.
Positives
+ Easy to understand.
+ The game really takes your brain to somewhere else with it's music, sound design and visuals.
+ Puzzle quality is amazing and delivers with every level.
+ Value for your money.
Negatives
- The mechanic "After failing X times, reset level and start all over" is at times frustrating when you accidentally do something wrong and you have to repeat exact same moves all over again due to the level being reset.
- A "one and done" where you get roughly 2-4 hours of puzzles.
- Replay value is not there. Other than "you can replay the levels".
Easy recommendation for those who want to relax after a long day of work, school etc.
simple puzzle game
Fun
Played it back then on browser, and while there's only a few new levels, I wholeheartedly did enjoy it then, and I still enjoyed it now. A great puzzle game.
Chill
Really nice puzzles, reminded me of circuit design
Relaxing music, clean aesthetic.
It always shows you how each new part works with a very simple puzzle before adding them into large and complex puzzles. Nothing is hidden, nothing has to be guessed but the later puzzles are a fun complex maze to untangle.
For the price I would recommend this if you like puzzles.
