Trash product by a trash developer. Seriously, unlist the product so people do not accidentally purchase software you have permanantly disabled.
Used to work decent. Now it no longer works. The simulator gets stuck on "No internet connection." I used to use this program all the time to watch movies. Where are the devs?? do not buy, the program is broken. Also, why does this program even need an internet connection.....
do not buy this i repeat the devs have left it awhile back and does not work anymore at all it went to shit and still says 29.99 lol wow
requires an internet connection to work
Servers are down at this time
developer has been silent for 4 years
will update this if anything changes but DO NOT BUY at this time
this app is terrible. Its way to difficult to use. I spent 20 minutes figuring out how to use this like seriously.
Ans another thing, why dont you let us the the controles that come with the vr headset? Why did you make it to where you have to either use the headset or take of the headset just to selct something?! In all this is the worst vr experience ever.
Cineveo is great-looking but functionally flawed.
First, know that I loved this as a Google Cardboard app. It was a good video player for a rather limited VR device. I enjoyed it if not for the hard to read text, and the stare-at-options UI was acceptable for such a simple device. That said, the app hasn't changed its UI from the phone to the Vive, and that's where it suffers the most. The UI requires the user to stare at options to click them. That both shows down the user and makes the scene a little cluttered. The user should have better interactivity options in such an app on the Vive, but unfortunately, Cineveo does not even try to offer options. I hope they add controller support and the ability to disable the stare-at menu controls sometime in the future.
The video playback is also very hit-or-miss. It plays some videos just fine, but other videos seem to play at double the speed. I tried slowing it down but could not find the option in the playback controls. There's no playlist option for setting up the playlist before entering the theater. You simply drop files into the app's videos directory. That makes me slightly disappointed considering I have a ton of videos categorized into folders in my "My Videos" folder in Windows. I would prefer not to have to move files around just to choose which videos to have the app default to. It does not play videos in sequence, either, forcing me to open a menu screen to start the next video. SBS 3D did not seem possible, but I have no SBS 3D videos other than Sintel, so I'm fine with that. The MKV update was very welcome as I was not
The visuals of this app are very immersive... if not for some strange scenery choices. The plain theater mode offers a nice theater room, similar to something out of an actual theater... except there's a bright hallway right behind your seat! I don't understand its purpose, and it looks totally out of character for the theater to have a hallway of posters sticking right out of it with no doors and no stairs.
I'll probably give Cineveo another try in the future, because it shows a lot of promise. For now, I'm using Big Screen Beta (free) with VLC(also free) for my cinematic movie experience.
Unintuitive UI. For vive user it doesn't support steam controller. If you want to view youtube videos or your purchased movies in full screen you have to type in the full URL within their bulit in browser EVERY single time. The app feel unfinished at the moment.
not really multiplayer.
you can see some avatars in the room and chat in a window to send an url youtube to other users!
but you can't invite your friends, you can't watch a video starting at same time or create a privat seance
you don't know were are your friends in the theatre
pas vraiment multiplayer je suis veritablement dessus :(
just un échange d'url de video aux autres utilisateurs prèsent
impossible de commencer une video de façon sincronisé avec des amis
Opened codec download location which the website states it doesn't exist.
I couldn't add anything to the movie playlist cause steam open playlist link doesn't work and trying to add anything to the playlist via oculus rift doesn't work.
Update:
I got everything to work now.
The only problem there is with it is the mkv playback. It is laggy af.
Update 2:
The new update fixed the .mkv lag issue. I tested it with a 3.2Gb video file, no lag what so ever and the update came with codecs. Nice update.
I really do not understand the negative reviews around. If you don't know how to instal a codec well...the problem is yours. There are also instrucions on the website and in the manual.
However, I reccommend new users to wait for an update before buying this software (read the whole review).
In my opinion, "CINEVEO - VR Cinema" offers the BEST VR CINEMA EXPERIENCE so far, and especially for the 3D movies. It features a fully functional multiplayer movie theater in virtual reality, and you can even choose your seat!
The "spherical Section" curved screen is simply amazing.
While it is true that "Simple VR Video Player" is the best VR video player on the market, it does NOT yet provide the best EXPERIENCE when whatching movies, and especially for 3D movies.
In order to fully "catch" the full depth of a 3D scene, your brain needs to "compare" the scene with som surrounding object...which you don't have in the black environment (nor in any of the other environments in "Simple VR Video Player").
The movie theatre environment(s) in CINEVEO, plus the super cool "spherical Section" curved screen provide the best CR cinema experience so far.
However, there is still a lot to be improved.
First of all, being forced to use a a keyboard in VR while wearing a headset is really really bad. It is very annoying and frustrating. Very clunky controls, no controler or oculus remote support.
Moreover, no video adjustments/enhancements are supported. Everything is mising (brightness, contrast, gamma, hue, curve, Anti Aliasing, Super Sampling,..)
For these reasons, I reccommend new users to wait for an update before buying this software.
Hi got CINEVEO because I wanted a cinema experience through my rift and to me it delivers what I expected. I love the fact that there are different themes like the ocean one where your in a boat in the middle of nowhere so you feel like you can proper chill out while watching a movie, there is also a drive through theme and a 4D theme if I remember right. The other good things I like about the app is the ability in increase the screen size to suite and also the Internet cinema where you can chill out with other VR dudes. Would I recommend this app the answer is yes.
First off I would like to say that this game is very nice and it really feels like you are in a cinema. It's nice to kick back and relax and watch a movie in VR. My favourite setting would be the ocean one. Also, I noticed that the quality of the screen just seemed better and more crisp than other vr apps such as BigScreen Beta. (No hate on BigScreen Beta, its a fun and cool app and on top of all that it is free so you should try it if you want, I just feel that the screeen in this app is better and just feels like a more authentic expierience.) Overall the only rhing I would change is the codec should be included but I didn't mind installing it because it took 2 minutes. But yea really cool app and definitley worth the money.
you need to install 3rd party codecs, one from github (not aproblem), one from some other site riddled with those 'download now' adverts riddled with malware.
ULTRA 3d mode is just 'zoomed in'
i could rant for hours... but.. i cant be bothered..
this is the first time ive ever asjed for a refund.
"You have been permanently banned from all CINEVEO - Virtual Reality Cinema discussions.
You were banned by a CINEVEO - Virtual Reality Cinema developer."
This is what I get for making suggestions on how to improve the app? The is the lowest of the low. This developer simply don't listen to feedbacks and suggestions. They want you to report errors but would never appreciate feedbacks. This is why the app will never improve and will not succeed. Compare this dude to the developers of BigScreen is night and day.
If you're asking for help or anything, expect either significant delay or no response at all.
I really wanted to like this. I had initial issues with things not launching correctly from the Steam app, but found I could just run the EXE from the appropriate folder and it launched fine.
It was a bit annoying to have to move the files around for different theaters, I don't know why they all couldn't share a single space, but even that was just a minor issue.
The immersion was decent, the headset driven controls (i.e. look here, hover there, etc.) were actually pretty well done, I didn't mind them at all.
But everything stuttered. It wasn't a codec issue, or a bad MKV issue, since they played fine in everything else, from Media Player to VLC to any other program I tried playback in.
And then I saw at the end of the PDF file that if the video you are trying to watch is larger than 1.5GB then you're pretty much out of luck, large file sizes will stutter.
I don't have any of my movies in any MKV file that small. So I couldn't use it to watch ANY of my movies...
Requested a refund, and hopefully someone else will see this review and not have to go through the hassle of the install and configuration and such, only to find out that the movies you intend to use won't be compatible anyway...
This is a nice video player, but it has a few issues that prevent it from being great.
1. Does not work without internet(regardless of steam being in offline mode), which makes no sense to me as one of its selling points is the ability to play local content. Bit of a serious oversight IMO. Would have been nice to know this upfront before purchasing, as it really hindered my ability to give a demo.
2. Controls are a bit sensitive, when inside VR. Trying to navigate around through various local directories, can be a bit frustrating. Would be nice if it supported the wireless hand controller with the oculus rift.
Update(from Cineveo)Regarding your point #2. The "VR File Browser" can also be navigated using the keyboard arrow keys (up, down, left, right). Give it a try. You will see it's much easier and faster.
3. Be aware that there are limitations in regards to file name length, when trying to find your local files. (looked like 32 characters, but did not count it)
To play most local content, be sure to install the additional codecs, as shown from the documents on the authors site. This solves many, many issues.
I downloaded the files and it plays all my movies, 3D SBS mkv avi mp4, just read the guide and follow settings, it\'s pretty cool, if you find youself with the chair around your neck just press the reset button on the phone and it will put the screen dead center, nice app thanks.
HTC VIVE Review:
I put off buying CINEVEO for quite some time because of all the thumbs down you see right on the front page (Something I think needs to be handled differently on the steam store). However, I finally decided to give it a shot.... And MAN am I glad I did!
The screen clearity is fantastic, plays smoothly and works wonderfully. At first I thought they enviroments would get in the way of the movie experience, but when I'm watching movies, game videos i've downloaded, and other stuff: I hardly notice the backgrounds.
You can also zoom way in when using a specific enviroment to make the movie cover your entire view. With this setting it's very emerssive. I'd say this is a great buy! If you're having issues playing a movie, right-click the game in your library and select the manual, it has some great tips. Don't worry, it's nothing complicated, it's simply changing a check box from one thing to another.
Great concept, but it suffers from the same problem that Whirligig currently suffers from - MKV videos judder and skip all over the place making them unwatchable. This is apparently due to the Unity video plugin they use, so hopefully a fix will come eventually. The developers documentation notes that your will need a "powerful" PC to play MKV's smoothly - well buddy if a Core i7 4790k, 16GB RAM, RAID-0 SSDs and a 980ti isn't enough to play a video, somethings not right!
Once this issue is fixed it will be a solid thumbs up, the UI is great (if buggy) and the environments are cool, but for now - it's not fit for purpose.
8/10
DK2 w/ runtime 0.7 , GTX 980 [Only have access to 4D Movie Theater 3.0 Beta]
PROS:
Theatre is well made (graphically pleasing) + ambient lighting that is linked to the image on screen is great
No Need to use keyboard and mouse everything can be navigated with gaze detection
Smooth Experience no judder at all
Subtitle Support
CONS:
0.7 runtime is very limited at the moment still waiting for update (cannot choose other theaters except main beta version)
There was one tvshow that started with low frame rate only on the screen not the theatre and took about 10 minutes to become smooth again
You have to boot the theater instead of selecting one in the application seems like friction in the User Experience (have to choose one when right clicking in steam)
Navigating menus inside the application to find the folder where you have your movies/shows is a bit tedious. Also if the movie or folder name is long it will be cut off without no option to see the rest. Makes episode finding difficult
Other than the organization structure of the menu. This application is very functional and frankly the best one out even with all the shortcomings. Also its the only movie theatre VR application that works with the latest oculus runtime as of now (10/1/2015). 10 dollars is a fair price but I just wish there was more organization when selecting media. If it had the same metadata structure as plex, this app would be hard to beat. In conclusion its simple, effective and great app with loads of potential.
Had this app a few days now and watched 2 films with it, so far the only critisism is the awkward setup procedure but once that is all done the app is easy to use. The first film I watched on it was Top Gun which was a great experience to see the film on a big screen, the second film I watched was conan the barbarian 3D now that was something else entirely the 3D effects are greatly increased than what I get on my regular 3D tv. so if the program gets regular updates and takes advantage of the new hardware as it becomes available this will probably become my prefered way of watching films.
This is an interesting tech demo -- sort of. There are a few things that need to be done before this app is really ready for prime time.
This is delivered as a folder. In the folder, there are two separate Unity executables for each of six environments. And then there's an additional batch file to support DirectX 11. It requires installation of a specific CODEC pack from GitHub in order to operate, and overall is at a quality similar to the Multiplayer Theater demo that is available for free.
At the very least, take half an hour, write a launcher. Put a button to download the required CODEC pack, have Steam launch that by default.
Use Environment.GetSpecialFolder and ask for videos -- look for the movies there. If you're not going to do that, then at least use a single movies folder for all the environments. But using the folder under Steam versus the user's Video folder (or any user specified folder) is something that is going to annoy users.
Think about if you really need 12 separate executables here -- that cannot be pleasant to maintain in Unity. Those scenes can all be in a single executable, and you can use LoadLevel to load the level you want. So instead of separate executables, make one executable.
At that point you need a menu -- there are a lot of good Oculus-enabled menus in the Unity asset store, and the default Unity UI is workable as well. Basically, if you're going to ask for money you need to be a cut above the tech demos in the forums, for free, at the Oculus forums.
Keep in mind, Oculus is currently a developer only club -- developers are going to hold you to a higher standard than traditional users may, usually, and are going to have seen the various demos on the Oculus site most likely. I know it's the first thing that I did after I unboxed my Oculus -- install the SDK, look at what people are uploading, see "hey, I should do that."
This is not currently ready for prime time, and needs some work before it will be. As a demo on GitHub, I'd recommend it. As a commercial paid product, it needs some basic professionalism brought to the table.
