Haven't been able to open it up since I have installed it. I have a lot of these rpg makers and this one along with MZ have failed to open up for a while now. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and trying different methods to no avail. VXAce still works but I am waiting for it to randomly stop like these.
I mean, MV is pretty fun but making a serious game with it takes a lot of work. I hate how people instantly hate on it but don't understand how much work goes into a game. Of course, by itself MV isn't perfect which is why you need Plugins.
Is it worth the full price? Maybe... But it's fun as hell though when you get it on sale

A great way to start learning the basics complete with starter assets, and even better if you know some advanced tricks. Plugins are your friend if you're not finding the tool you need for your vision, or you can give things a Google and see if someone dropped some javascript you can copy+paste into the .json file of your game.
PROTIP FOR BEGINNERS: Learn switches. Make 2 tabs on an event, make the 2nd BLANK tab Self Switch A with the drop-down. Now if you have an event in the 1st tab like opening a locked door, and then follow that event with "Self Switch A: ON" it then moves to the blank 2nd tab, meaning it will stay that way and remain an "unlocked" door without switching back to tab 1 where it would be locked again upon reloading.
With a little creativity and planning, this makes great bones for all sorts of games for personal and commercial use.
Been using it to make an 8-bit retro RPG in my personal time and it's been really rewarding and fun.
This game is AWESOME. I love using it for game development and I HEAVILY recommend it.
The software is much easier to learn compared to other alternatives. This makes game development possible for someone like me. You don't need to type a single line of code unless it is something very specific. Even then, there are a ton of easy-to-download plugins. I recommend waiting for a discount because it can go down by 90%.

Pretty good if youre new to gamedev / dont have any coding skills. Only downside is how limiting the base product is. Luckily plugins exist so get to work and make a game you boom boom fatass.
yeah no not worth it just got it and its missing files to do a test play, then i cant del the folder as it says its not there as im looking right at it also lagging a lot just starting it up.

Crashes frequently, with no auto-save and no option for auto-save. Doesn't do enough by itself to warrant just learning to make your own RPGs in something like Game Maker Studio (which is free btw; this isn't a shill but genuinely if you have this program anyways you'd be better off porting the sprites, and building the combat system yourself. It is genuinely a better use of your time)

This is an amazing tool for those new to game development or those with limited time. It has a ton of resources and features built in so making a quick game is a breeze. If you are looking to create something more unique, then the ability to use or create plugins is a game changer. The flexibility of the engine allows developers the freedom to create their vision. Also, there is a huge community with tons of free guides, plugins, graphics and other resources. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it on sale.

I want to love it with all the resources plug ins and potential but it doesn't open and I've tried everything (EVERYTHING) and the questions online that go through this never got resolved either so its very disappointing. It's been a while now and I had to redo my project on VX ACE. Very frustrating with all that work I put on it and learning. And Why am I jealous seeing others use RPG MV WHEN I OWN IT? ;;;;;

Comentario Analítico: "RPG Maker MV"
En 2015 estrenó RPG Maker MV de la mano de KADOKAWA y Gotcha Gotcha Games, siendo parte de su novedad la posibilidad de producir juegos para móviles, de ahí el MV (Mobile Version), también porteado a PS4 y Nintendo Switch bajo el título "RPG Tsukuru MV Trinity" y que, al igual que ocurrió con las iteraciones 2000 (Sucedida por 2003), XP (Edición de Windows XP y sucedida por VX, la iteración de tanto Windows Vista como Windows XP) y VX (Sucedida por VX Ace), MV sirvió para posteriormente dar cabida a MZ.
Los plugins pasaron de Ruby (Incorporado en XP) a JavaScript para favorecer la compatibilidad con HTML5, lenguaje con el que corren todos los juegos producidos en MV y gracias al que se puede jugar sus productos por medio de navegador; provocando así que cada ejecutable sea internamente una ventana de Google Chrome, lo que puede derivar en algunos problemas de fidelidad visual.
La dimensión de los tilesets y personajes pasó de 32x32 a 48x48 y la resolución de pantalla por defecto pasó de 544x416 a 816x624, por suerte la edición base viene con un par de plugins que te permiten aumentar el aspect ratio hasta 16:9, es decir una resolución de 1920x1080.
Además se nos posibilita colocar dos decorativos en un mismo tile, se agregó el combate en vista lateral tal como ocurría en RPG Maker 2003, los productos ahora pueden ser encriptados con un número de serie generado por el autor y el RTP viene ya incorporado con el editor.
Tanto MV como MZ cuentan con una enorme comunidad que día a día publica variedad de recursos tanto gratuitos como de pago, incluyendo a los plugins, que pueden convertir a tu juego en una experiencia absurdamente distinta a lo habitual. MV3D, Chrono Engine, HUD Maker, Sanshiro's Analog Move, Galv's Quest Log y todo lo salido de la galería de Yanfly valen como ejemplos de excelentes plugins entre tantos que, en muchos casos, incluyen una demo para probar y testear sus capacidades.
¿En conclusión? Excelente motor para autores de considerable valor creativo, la sinergia perfecta si le sumamos Aseprite, GIMP/Photoshop/Krita y algún DAW.

Seems like my M1 MacBook Air isn't supported, which is a bummer. Playtesting and script loading is really slow and sluggish.

Its really helpful when you dont know how to code and when you dont know what you are doing.
If you start messing around with RPG Maker you WILL learn a lot of things even when you aren´t trying to, and when eventually you know what you are doing is when RPG Maker really shines.
It has its limitations and maybe you will need some plugins for things I think should be implemented.
One last thing I want to say is that It´s true this is simple enough for a child and powerful enough for a developer, and in case It wasnt obvious already, Its a great learning tool.

I've gotten my money's worth of tinkering and creative thoughts, but I haven't really produced anything. It works, but I'm not great at it. There's a sheer lack of documentation and you'll struggle to make the RPG of your dreams with this program. High learning curve. And there's things that shouldn't be, built into the game, like a level cap.
Goes on sale frequently, for substantial discount, so buy then. Not worth full price for any of it's content.
I recommend it to people that want what I've described.
PS: DLC does not install automatically. You have to manually add the DLC each time, which is a pain. Further, each DLC has it's own legal disclaimer on how to use it, which is a headache. The game needs to streamline both of these into something simple, like it advertises being.
When I have to reduce my display setting just to run this app, you know it's not developed properly.
Pretty cool engine. On it's own, you can do a lot, but in order to make a game of your greatest potential, I recommend adding addons. You cna do some pretty cool things addons.
I've used this engine since its release date and I still love this 10 years later and hopefully beyond.
Easy to use, damage formulas are easy to grip, plugins can instantly be used and configured once downloaded and exported to the game's system files, no programming knowledge required, script calls for conditions to trigger events or visual/audio changes are easy to access through the RPGMaker discord server, importing custom graphics/fonts/spritesheets/tilesheets/audio is super easy as long as you have basic experience with navigating file explorer.
Pretty good program to make a game or have fun playing with assets.
Only used it for a little bit, but a good game maker for fans of JRPG's.
Honestly thought this RPG maker was average, the plugin option was fine but it was always prone to breaking- hardly any options for plugin commands outside the usage of shitty note tags which btw was tiny and obnoxious to use.

apple silicon users the playtest feature in rpgmaker mv doesn't work. i bought mv over mz because it was cheaper without doing enough research :( the software itself works fine but if you actually want to play the game you make get mz instead
the game works as it should hence the positive review but i felt obligated to post this so hopefully people won't make the same mistake i did lol
i've made many games in this soft wear and i can recommend it to those new to coding and those just looking to make a game to show off to their friends, i would over all give it a 9/10, its one of the best i could recommend to anyone

You want to change the template so your game looks unique? well.. u must know programming to do that..
You work hard and now know how to program? then why use this tool in the first place..
Seriously, if you want to be a professional game dev, then this tool isn't for you, the engine will SLAP YOU HARD if you want to make a feature that this engine not intend to give you. Especially if you want to target Android as your target platform. You need a multitouch?, nope. The engine use that to bring up the pause menu. And you can't change that! at all! Because of the way it was programmed. "You can turn off the menu tho". Already try that and still multitouch is not supported by the engine. This make it very difficult -if not impossible- to make a proper android action rpg in rpg maker. "You want to touch the skill button? well, u must release the d pad first", thats right. You basically tell your player that. Thats just how it is. And thats just how boring it is.
So yup, in my opinion, RPG Maker is..
"Good enough for a child, Useless Enough for a developer "
