Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten (DX edition)

Played this a ton back in the day. One of the best TD games ever made.

Fun RPG Tower Defense game with a decently good story that I've loved since I was a kid.

Great game, even after all these years. Best tower defence game I know of.

I'm disappointed in this game. I expected more from a title with 95% positive reviews. It's a mediocre tower defense game, offering typical TD mechanics with little innovation. The only unique feature is the healing mechanic, where enemies can damage your towers, and a special tower can heal them.

The RPG elements are shallow as well. There are only two types of items—armor and weapons—but they lack interesting effects. All items merely add a bonus to attack or defense. The "skill tree" offers generic buffs like "+1% damage," so there aren't any engaging decisions or builds to explore.

While the game isn't bad, it certainly doesn't deserve a 95% rating.

Witty dialog, not-bad story, pretty good tower defense mechanics. The progression & unlocks are decently paced - it's very grindy if you play with the default rewards, but you can also scale them up by just changing a setting (I highly recommend 300% rewards). There's a lot of room to replay maps and master them at insane difficulties, but I didn't make it that far.

My fav tower defense of all time, and its not even close. Everything about this game is good from the mechanics the level design to the story. My only complaint is that, like any game with RPG mechanics, a lot of the challenge can be eliminated by simply being overleveled, but the RPG mechanics are a huge part of what makes this game so special. DQ2 is finally coming out in 6 days, so if you're interested in this definitely check that out as well.

Highly playable TD with character

It's been a while since I played this game, but I do remember loving it. I don't remember the story at all, but I definitely enjoyed the gameplay, and I might do a replay of it, since it seems like it's been updated.

I played this for the first time many years ago and was thrilled to find it on steam. As a TD lover, I appreciated the gameplay and the mechanics. However, there is more to this game. The game unfolds along an extremely well written story. Funny dialogues, actually correct grammar :)) and I also like the character design. Just get it!

I bought this game a while back and returned to find all sorts of updates, improvements, and new additions to the game, Highly recommended.

It's a tower defense game, but with a fantastic fantasy RPG twist involving stats, equipment, special powers, flexible tech trees, and of course.. grind.. but in a good way. That all aside, the music and story are top notch, and plenty of secrets to unlock and tweak your lineup with. If the above sounds good to you, then that's all you need to know--- just play the game.

The story is retar ded but the gameplay is very good. I was looking for a chill TD like this since my warcraft 3 mod days back in the 00's

I like it. I like the story, I like the maps, I like the difficulty, I like the New Game +, I like the characters, I like the art style. Sure, it could be improved a bit here or there, but if you like tower defense it's worth a try, I suppose. I could have sworn I'd already upvoted this, but it doesn't seem like it. Damn, what an oversight on my part I guess.

Come out with a second one already...

Great game! Great if bored and just want something to play on the go casually, but you can get into the loop and spend hours! The only reason I am writing this review is because at one point they ask if you want to like their socials, and if you say no, they still give you the reward and you engage in funny dialogue, thats the right attitude!

Slak is like the "Cloud Strife" of tower defense games. He is our official mascot for this genre. Long live Slak!

A very fun Tower Defense/RPG hybrid and overall one of the best Tower Defense games I've ever played. If you like exterminating endless waves of enemies while grinding for levels and equipment upgrades, this game is for you.

A really effective story-based tower defense game. I really hope the sequel ends up coming out. This game is a lot of fun to repeat, an enjoyable challenge to try and complete, and an enjoyable set of characters going through a very well-done narrative.

I remember playing the demo on Kongregate in i guess 2010, somewhere round that time. Always like TD games, played it. Finally bought this game maybe 3 years ago and just recently played through it for the first time. The game is grindy, but as a core aspect and meant to be grindy, not hit a tree and rocks for 2 hours to build a base and get raided. Grindy and difficult but a simple and fun TD game. Worth a few bucks on sale.

Don't get me wrong - there's good reason so many people like this game: there's a deep, well developed storyline that's well written and fun to follow along. I just feel like with so many positive reviews I expected more of the TD aspects - but at the end of the day the TD mechanic is pretty bland, and for me, personally, not worth spending full price on. After about 4 hours I was bored of the TD elements and feeling like I had no control of the pathing or any way to play more cleverly to win levels I might not be expected to - I was just going to have to grind until my characters (towers) were strong enough. For me, I kind of wish there was a review that told me to stay away and look for TDs with more interesting stuff than the ol' 'put towers by the path and upgrade them' route.
