Runs perfect, music and gameplay is just as captivating as I remember back in the day.
Sadly, this one is easily overlooked and underrated. An absolute classic, however.
too painful to play, it aged horribly
This is worse Age Of Empires with Star Wars painted over it. The default hotkeys feel very jank and do not help you save on time. I can't overstate how bad it is for the buttons on screen not to align with their placement on the keyboard. The campaign has good voice overs but the audio mixing is not the best. Something that really made the singleplayer aspect of this game suck was the sound effects being unable to be turned off whilst you play. I found it very irrating during the tutorial hearing the loud ass unit sounds whilst trying to listen to the instructions. It beats me what I found so enjoyable about this game sans the setting. Since playing it in current year feels closer to torture than mindless fun.
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is one of those games that is just awesome, you know? Actual canon content be damned, this is about being fun. Who cares if my Battle Droid army can stand toe-to-toe with Stormtroopers? It's just plain awesome! It fleshes out the Wookies, Gungans, and Royal Naboo. It shows sides to some factions that you didn't even know existed. It's a very well done clone of AoE2, and by far my favorite in the AoE family.
This fixed the game for me.
Right click on the game in the your library.
Go to Properties
Go to Installed Files
Then Verify Integrity of game files
Launch game and it may ask you to install some drivers. Just click yes.
Been trying to get the game to work until i did this.
Download the patch from the community hub so it runs properly on modern computers as this is very old. Smoothest RTS i've ever played! My computer barely runs navigating the desktop but runs this perfectly. Why can't games be this smooth anymore? too much focus on graphics nowadays, as if that makes the game more fun. What it does do is make us with lower end computers not buy it. Buy this! Oh and on tutorial 3 walk your Wookies across the water! I wandered around for way to long on that tutorial not able to find the droids. They were right on the other side of the water.
If they made a Definitive edition like they did with age of empires 2. I WOULD gladly pay up to 100 bucks to play this classic
Quick review time!
While this is a very old game, it holds a special place in my childhood. It’s an Age of Empires game with a Star Wars theme, and the developers were bold with this installment. They introduced air combat and more extreme civilization bonuses, along with detailed customization for each faction—a true labor of love.
The game is great fun to play against AI as the official multiplayer support is gone. However, through unofficial means, there is a small but dedicated online player base, though the skill cealing is a bit high as most players are veterans.
This game fills a unique niche in the Star Wars universe that hasn’t been fulfilled since, and likely never will be again. Unlike Empire at War, which focuses on large-scale battles, this game offers a more micro and personal level of strategy. You get to build your faction’s outpost piece by piece on a remote planet and gradually take over competitors.
Additionally, the game is greatly improved and updated by certain mods, some of which rival what an official definitive edition would offer, introducing new factions, units, animal life, planets and even AI improvements for free.
good old game
Genuinely one of my first and also one of my favorites (possibly my absolute favorite) RTS games and holds a sacred place in my heart.
I main Gungans.
Easy to get lost in a round and forget your troubles for a bit.
helllllllllllllllll yeah
Fun star wars themed RTS along the lines of Age of Empire.
I am playing using Expanding Fronts MOD
Amazing, it`s actually Aoe 2 but Star Wars, kind of "the best Aoe2 mod ever", in sale sometimes is less then a pound. Expanding front is still updated today. again..AMAZING.
Luckly enough the Steam timer doesn`t work while using the mod, so I can`t say how muc time of my life I am wasting building the perfect village with the fucking "so familiar" editor
Thanks "Expanding Front" Modders
I wish I knew about this game sooner. It is essentially Age of Empires II but with Star Wars, as it was made using the same game engine. Very cool!
Contains Super Battle Droids.
wont save my progress
a game of it's time, but as a big fan of civ type games and the Star Wars franchise a must have. FOR THE REPUBLIC
It's a blast, retro and fun aoe-ish game
Buggy as all get out but a super fun game
Despite being over 20 years old, and realistically being a knockoff of age of empires, this game will always be peak age of empires style RTS and peak star wars RTS for me. Still will sit down and play a 2 hour game of terminate the commander with a bunch of bots and be nothing but happy with this game,
A FUN GAME TO PLAY
The game is a classic, however it desperately needs a remaster cause the base game is pretty ugly and painful to play.
good game
nice
ilove this game but recentlyit will not launch no matter what i do it just white screens with the errorcode of vidslv50decompressor missing. Anybody know of a fix?
MAKE A DEFINITIVE EDITION! AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!
10/10, if only my bum ahh friends would play with me
Love the game 100% but recently its crashed on three separate occasions otherwise i fully recommend for a Star wars lover!
Have played this for years - it is a great 'coffee break' game and I love the Gungans.
Nostalgia game. With broken AI if you have never heard about it. The original campgain is easy to complete on hard difficulty. Recommend to use unofficial mod Expanding Fonts that introduce more nations, balance and fix AI in Campaing mode.
It's an Old Game Sir, but it checks out. I played this game when I was a young kid. Even when I knew the cheats it did not stop me from enjoying it. I'm 27 now and aside from the urge to play it, it doesn't last long. Would I recommend it? Yes. Should you play it with cheats? Yes. Why? Well on some maps there are things within the map you wouldn't have seen without it. Such as a hidden enemy with a line of speech or a factions with just 1 unit. Or hidden allies such as young Ani. Sometimes there is a section of the map that will have an alternative way to beat that map without even needing to follow the normal chain of tasks. It was the devs way of making you explore.
That being said most people these days have no reason to play the game. It's too old, archaic graphics, the screen is way too close because it wasn't designed with today's resolution settings. The only people who would play it is either someone curious about the game, someone like me who played it as a kid or a YouTuber looking to make a review or retrospective of it and other related games.
I keep having this day dream of creating a really awesome map within the map but every time I go to actually play it that feeling I get died within minutes of actually playing the game. Think of the best modern game then think of how you will feel and how young people will see that game 20 years later.
The DLC was pretty neat although I didn't know it had one until a decade later and luckily the DLC is cheaper now than what it was then.
Since this game is 20 years old I will give you a list of cheats and their results.
Press the Enter Key while in game:
Forcesight - Allows any explores area to stay lit allowing anything that moves to be visible.
Forceexplore - This shows you the layout of the entire map but doesn't show you what's in it.
Using both Forceexplore and Forcesight you will effectively see everything.
Forcecarbon - 1k Carbon.
Forcefood - 1k Food.
Forceore - 1k Ore.
Forcenova - 1k Nova.
Instead of typing it over and over while it might glitch out a little in the text but if you highlight the types out command and press Control C it will copy it and then Control V and it will past it. This way you can get more with less typing. My sister showed me that which was pretty neat.
Lukeskywalker - Win Beats the Map.
Anakinskywalker - Crashes the Game.
Simonsays - creates an overpowered Ewok that shoots a very powerful laser and a shield unit that can destroy all unit types and buildings very fast.
Scaryneighbor - Creates an overpowered Busybody on a boat that also a powerful laser and a shield unit.
Forcebuild - instant builds any building or units but I'm not sure if that works with repairing units or buildings. I haven't played in a while.
These are the most useful cheats I know by heart I don't know of any others but there could be just a few.
Anyways cheers but feel free to ask me any questions.
Oldy but goody
good game but even with the music at 1% i cant hear anything
STAR WARS™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga is your standard, decades-old real-time strategy game with the notable Star Wars trademark. Although campaigns are varied by faction and dialogue, objectives range from defending an area, meeting a resource quota, and or struggling for supremacy against an A.I. that focuses primarily on tiresome hit-and-run tactics until players eventually amass enough resources to produce artillery units that can then destroy the multitude of turrets that usually protect the sources of endless enemy units. Unless you are an avid Star Wars fan or just now playing a strategy game for the first time, this product will be nothing more than a collector's item or glorified fossil.
One of the best RTS's out and about. It might be 'dated' but it's absolutely on point. I wish they'd remake this or release a new star wars RTS similar to this play style.
A game from my childhood. Never gets old and is one of my favourite games ever, far surpassing many Triple A games that release. It's simple but effective RTS with a classic roster of units, music, and maps. It'll forever be what I want games to return to in the future, a revival of older classics that were sadly forgotten by many over time. If you like Star Wars you'll love this game. Buy it, you won't regret it.
Please make a definitive edition!
A well made classic strategy RPG. The game is just like I remember from when I was a kid playing it with the original CD-R version. For $6 this is a great game and perfect for anyone like me who doesn't have a very good computer.
I have had this game since in middle school and still love it. The mod that updates makes it even more fun! may or may not have recreated order 66
Absolute banger of a classic. It still holds up as an amazing rts game. Playing LAN with friends, the incredible story modes, and the computers get insanely hard if you choose. I wish they would revamp this game with modern technology, or come out with some kind of a sequel! Would be so sick
Ignore the "5 hours" playtime, I've played longer on Expanding Fronts anyway but even without that glorious gem of a mod this game is still good despite its age. Keep this game alive, guys.
Now if only we had Force Commander...
I originally played this when I was a kid and have fond memories and even though the graphics are dated it's still a good game for true fans of the films.
I saw this on a shelf in a store checkout when I was a kid and my parents bought it for me. To my delight, I realized that it was basically Age of Empires II but Star Wars. As a big fan of AoE II, this really delivered a ton of fun. I made tons of goofy maps growing up, and I still find the game fun to this day.
This RTS will make a fine addition to my collection.
Age of Empires 2
This game deserves a good remastered Edition.
x
Been great reliving my childhood with this game. However, game still crashes after reaching tech level 4 and send large armies over to enemies in conquest mode.
Good streamlined strategy Ageofempires-vania that is pleasant enough to warent paying its low price cost. Has endless hours of game time and replay ability being a R.T.S. but can be long and drawn out due to the lack of zooming and the slow movement pace.
You can play as multiple factions across hundreds of years, through player versus player modes or campaigns dedicated entirely to missions of each factions in the game. The time frame for this game is between Starwars episode 1 and Starwars return of the Jedi. Meaning you can play as heroes such as, Anakin, Jarjar, R2D2, C3PP, Chubaka, Princess Laya, Obi Juan, and even Darth Vader(I miht have said one or two that aren't actually in there XP.
I recommend this if you love the way Ageof series plays and would love to play as a Starwars base managing commander.
