this game is a classic easy to understand i always tell my friends about it or when someone asks for good star wars games hope one day the game gods will let another like it to come to us
Angry dorito boxing simulator. 10/10 would pelt enemies with angry doritos again.
This game never gets old, when they made it they really made sure, to get it right, evry star wars RTS before this have been cheezy and lazy work put in it, plenty of mods also so you can try all sorts of thing, with different era and such.
Space is epic, but land combat they manage to fail at but you will not regret buying this if you are a Star wars fan
Amazing Story and fun multiplayer
Great blend of grand strategy and RTS. Fight battles in space and on land to determine who controls the galaxy. Really fun in a Versus campaign with a friend.
I got to thank Steam for getting my hands on Forces of Corruption. I bought this game originally at a store, only managed to find base game. I found out later that it had an expansion. It took me over 8 months to buy it and never managed to get a copy.
Anyways, Empires at War, the base game, isn't really relevant. You want a lot, go for the expansion. It's basically a different game of its own. It's a great realtime strategy game. The graphics might be a little dated, but the game has great replayability. Especially with the amount of mods made. Mods that bring in the Old Republic, the Clone Wars, or even the Warlord Era to complete overhauls of the Galactic Civil War. Or if Star Wars doesn't fancy you, there are mods to turn it into Star Trek or even Battlestar Galactica.
But the best part is that is still received an update after 17 years, the game supports 64 bit. Which is not something I had expected for a game this old to be done by its own developer. For that, Patroglyph absolutely has my respect.
the best space battle game of all times and with mods make it even better you guys got to try this game
missed playing this as a kid. great memories. mods for this game are spectacular!
Despite being an old game, the excellent gameplay and active modding community keep this game fresh and fun. I highly recommend picking this up on sale, its well worth the money!
this was my childhood game lots of fun then lots of fun now has a great modding comunity that keeps the game alive and the devs still update the game with fetured that modders want
One of the best games of all time. Been playing it off and on ever since the 2000's. One of the first games I ever bought with my own money as a kid and never expected it to hold up this many years. It's honestly timeless with all the mods and custom maps.
Very fun game, endlessly playable. I have been playing on and off again for nearly a decade. Highly recommend you use Republic At War or Thrawn's Revenge Mod to bring the game into the modern day.
It feels like a star wars game made with love and a care about the universe, and the modding scene is full of passionate designers.
one of the best star wars games with alot of mods to choose
me and a buddy played a battle in the republic mod it was us verses 2 hard ai we got pushed back to our own spawn 10/10 would do it again
Great game for its age, but the main reason to buy it today is the vast amount of fantastic mods available!
This is one of the best strategy games ever. The controls and mechanics are simple, the space and ground combat are fun, and the mods add lots of extra content
A lost gem that with the help of modding has aged like a fine wine. While the base game is serviceable, it can feel dated at times. However, without this game amazing mods like Fall of the Republic, Republic at War, Thrawn's Revenge, and Awakening of the Rebellion. Despite its age I can see the charm and heart the original had.
Really good game. Its very old and not worth current price. However on sale any amount really its for sure worth it.
I've enjoyed the seemingly infinite things you can do despite the old games, even though it might require mods.
One of the OG RTS games of it's era, and one of the best Star Wars games ever made.
Despite it's age, it's still very enjoyable. It's dated, sure, it's approaching 20 years old, but it still a very good game.
No other Star Wars game like it exists, and that makes this game truly unique.
Other games from other franchises are better than this, sure, but still. Empire At War and Forces of Corruption are games I think people should try at some point, especially if you like old Star Wars. Pre-Disney to top it off as well.
The gameplay is balanced, it is fairly energetic, the graphics for the time were quite good and aren't all that bad today - one has to look past the limitations of the time, though some mods allow you to up the graphics considerably.
The campaigns are also likewise good, and if you're a skilled player, they do sadly end up being a little too short.
But all in all, a good game. And I am a huge old-school Star Wars fanatic, so that adds to my rating as well.
The final verdict for Star Wars: Empire At War Gold Pack is a solid 9/10, with a BADASS Seal of Approval!
An older game, but still a lot of fun. If you are a Star Wars fan and/or an army management fan, this is the game for you.
Star Wars: Empire at War, a game that has ascended to the hallowed echelon of legendary Star Wars titles, unequivocally transcends the prosaic limitations of the real-time strategy genre. It is an enthralling and meticulously crafted panegyric to that beloved galaxy far, far away, a meticulously orchestrated symphony of strategic profundity, cinematic presentation, and sheer, unadulterated Star Wars enchantment. From the very instant that John Williams' iconic score reverberates through your auditory senses, transporting you to a galaxy of epic battles and interstellar conflicts, as you deploy your inaugural squadron of X-Wings, you are irrevocably and gloriously transported into the tumultuous crucible of the Galactic Civil War.
This 2006 chef-d'œuvre, a veritable titan in the realm of Star Wars gaming, empowers you to orchestrate the formidable forces of either the valiant Rebel Alliance, those courageous champions of freedom and justice, fighting with indomitable spirit against overwhelming odds to liberate the galaxy from the suffocating clutches of tyranny, or the awe-inspiring Galactic Empire, an imposing monolith of order and oppression, wielding the unfathomable might of the Imperial Starfleet and the insidious power of the Dark Side to maintain its iron grip on the galaxy. The choice is yours, and with it comes the formidable responsibility of shaping the destiny of civilizations, deciding the fate of countless worlds, and leaving an indelible mark on the annals of galactic history.
The scrupulous attention to detail exhibited throughout the game, from the seemingly insignificant Rebel infantryman to the most colossal and formidable Star Destroyer, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Every unit, every structure, every planet, has been lovingly and painstakingly crafted with a fidelity that borders on the uncanny, blurring the lines between the digital realm and the cinematic universe that has captivated and enthralled audiences for generations. They appear and sound as though they have been meticulously extracted, with the utmost care and precision, directly from the silver screen itself, imbued with the same aura of authenticity and grandeur that has made Star Wars an enduring cultural phenomenon.
Whether you are spearheading a squadron of nimble TIE fighters against a formidable Rebel cruiser, maneuvering colossal AT-AT walkers across the treacherous, glacial plains of Hoth, or commanding the fearsome Darth Vader to unleash his devastating Force powers upon hapless Rebel soldiers, the game impeccably encapsulates the quintessence of Star Wars combat in all its multifaceted glory.
However, Empire at War is far more than a mere visual and auditory spectacle. It boasts a profound and captivating strategic stratum, a multi-layered tapestry of resource management, tactical decision-making, and logistical complexities that will challenge even the most sagacious and seasoned strategists. You are entrusted with the monumental task of constructing sprawling bases, teeming with activity and bristling with defensive emplacements; procuring vital resources from across the vast expanse of the galaxy, mining asteroids for precious minerals, establishing intricate trade routes to fuel your insatiable war machine; and researching nascent technologies that will grant you the upper hand in the relentless arms race that defines this galactic conflict.
The Galactic Conquest mode introduces an additional layer of grand strategy, a strategic meta-game of galactic proportions that elevates Empire at War to the ranks of the most comprehensive and intellectually stimulating strategy games ever conceived. You are thrust onto the galactic stage, where you must subjugate and administer planets, each with their own unique characteristics, resources, and strategic value, across the vast expanse of the galaxy. You must forge alliances, engage in espionage, and manipulate the political landscape to your advantage, all while expanding your dominion, consolidating your power, and vanquishing your adversaries through a judicious combination of military might, economic prowess, and diplomatic finesse.
One of the most salient and undeniably exhilarating facets of Empire at War is its prodigious scale. The battles are truly colossal, veritable clashes of titans, with a multitude of units engaging in conflicts across terrestrial, celestial, and even atmospheric domains. You can subject planets to devastating orbital bombardment with the awe-inspiring firepower of Star Destroyers, initiate audacious raids on heavily fortified enemy bastions with elite Rebel commandos, and partake in gargantuan fleet engagements, where capital ships exchange volleys of turbolaser fire and starfighters dance in a deadly ballet. The game's dynamic campaign AI guarantees that no two playthroughs are identical, perpetually challenging you to adapt your strategies, remain vigilant, and think on your feet.
Furthermore, should the vast and engrossing content of the base game prove insufficient to satiate your insatiable appetite for galactic conquest, Empire at War possesses a vibrant and remarkably dedicated modding community that has engendered a plethora of novel content, expanding the game's scope and replayability far beyond its original boundaries. From novel units and factions, drawn from the rich tapestry of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, to entirely new campaigns and epochs, the modding scene injects new vitality into this already exemplary game, ensuring that it remains a vibrant and ever-evolving experience for years to come.
In summation, Star Wars: Empire at War is an indispensable and truly unforgettable experience for any discerning Star Wars aficionado or strategy game enthusiast. It is a timeless classic that perseveres in entertaining and captivating players with its breathtaking visuals, epic battles of unprecedented scale, and profound strategic gameplay that will challenge even the most seasoned tacticians. Even in the present day, it endures as one of the most exceptional and beloved Star Wars games ever conceived, a testament to its enduring quality, its remarkable depth, and the unwavering dedication of its ardent and passionate community. It is a game that deserves to be experienced, cherished, and remembered as a true masterpiece of the Star Wars gaming legacy.
A Classic that I played when it first came out and thanks to the Modding community, This 54 year old Gen X'r can still enjoy with even more content and lore!! Thank You Mod'rs!!!
It's an RTS that has ariel/space battle options, that's what I like the most about it, and it is star Wars.
My favorite strategy game ever. This game offers one of the best modders I have ever seen. I Just wish tons of more star wars fans got a chance to see this game. Im not even a nerd and super big into DND/board game stuff. This is just fun asf
very good game but the mods are the reason people play this but with this new maintenance update all of the mods have performance problems
Empire at War and its expansion, Forces of Corruption, are a solid entry to the early 2000s strategy gaming market. The developers over at Petroglyph still occasionally update the game to deal with decades old bugs or bring the game in 64-bit.
However, it is not the base content that keeps this game alive, but the large and dedicated modding community. If you are getting Empire at War in 2024, you are probably doing so because you heard a big modding project. EAWX (Thrawn's Revenge, Fall of the Republic, Revan's Revenge), Empire at War Remake, Awakening of the Rebellion, Republic at War, and many others. This game is more than worth the cost without a discount - which includes the base game and FoC DLC - but even if you want to wait it is still a hard recommend from me. I have nearly two thousand hours in the game, and I expect to have many more in the years to come.
Persistance update and just a really great game. Don't let the age of it fool you.
Still getting patches for mod support 19 years later.
loved this game when it first came out and its still one of my favorite real time strategy games
Classic lives on with additional mod enhancements to this decades old favorite. Is compatible with GOG and CD versions, be aware that matchmaking is terrible and that modpacks aren't always shared across servers.
Timeless classic and plenty of mods to keep me entertained for hours, I would highly recommend playing this gem and play the space battles.
This game still gets bug fixes and performance updates after 17 years.
Absolutely goated developer and incredible modding community. A timeless classic.
Mods like Thrawn's Revenge or Fall of the Republic completely turn this game 180" into a modern strategy game that could have been released this year.
The best Star Wars game ever made imo
Love that Petroglyph is keeping this game updated. PLEASE GIVE US A NEW EAW!
honestly great game although the auto resolve is fucked like damn losing a star destroyer to a troop transport in auto resolve is stupid other then that the controls work great love the space battles the land battles and such i just wish there were some console commands to play with
This game is still being maintained by Petroglyph! It's super fun, I wholeheartedly recommend. While the base game may be a lil limited, the modding scene is INSANE! Please give it a try. Expect a maintenance patch every single year!
Another update nearly 2 decades after the game came out. Truly this studio is built different. The modding has turned this from a kinda dated RTS into THE modern Star Wars strategy game. Usually I wouldn't accept a game that came out in 2006 costing over £15, this is the exception.
This game sets the bar high for rts considering the age and I can't recommend this game enough. The devs are also what should be considered the gold standard of what other dev teams need to use as a template for their own teams. There is some jank to the game (it's old and has some rough edges) but they hear out the community and actually attempt to help in what ways they can, even after almost 20 YEARS!!! they are committed to improving the game with actual improvements. For a relatively small team as well this is quite impressive (and probably why they are able to). This is in my books what a gem of a dev team looks like. Rather than hollow patches that just make the title look like its being maintained for a couple of years after release but really it's just become abandon ware cough... Blue isle, Taleworlds, CA, cough... cough... Paradox, cough.. Sega, Ubisoft cough... cough..
Fun and still fun even tho its old. Mods reccomended
Of many games out there, this one is quite deserving of a remake. Not long ago they made it 64 bit for us, and the mods have become so very fun. I highly recommend for RTS and Star Wars fans.
Very fun but republic at war mod even funner
I have yet to beat the original game, but starting with (AOTR) Awakening of the Rebellion; The Empire is my favorite regime. Jet packing around with my Dark Trooper units behind enemy lines, blowing up planets, and massing Stormtroopers, are hands down my favorite aspects of the mod.
Thrawns Revenge is hands down the best mod, comprehensively covering all aspects of the game and covering the expanded lore. Kinda wish they'd make a mod where they covered the Yavin era.. I'll probably try the Remake mod soon.
Anyways.. Fall of the Republic. A bit less polished than Thrawns Revenge, but if you enjoy Jedi, and the Clone Wars in general, this is easily the mod for you.
Good game, wish I could get some modes working though
very fun and cool game with a great modding community especially for it's age and price
Nearly 2 decades later and still one the best RTS titles I've ever played with such a diverse, talented and active mod community that it makes it feel like a release from half a decade ago.
The base game in its own right is fun and nostalgic for anyone who played it back then, but the mods... incredible! Shout out to the people who make them!!
game is old as s*** and the mods are a necessity but the game speaks volumes on what is considered fun and engaging compared to modern games.
The best Star Wars RTS ever made and it has some of the best mods ever made, a must play.
Star wars as it should be, before the evil empi..sorry, disney corp won the war. This game is more exciting than anything spawned from the empty heads holding liberal arts diplomas down at disney's un-imaginativeering department since the late 90's.
