Played this back in 2008 before it was on Steam but I still come back to it from time to time, sadly have beaten the campaigns on Hard already so no real replay value anymore (I'm not sure about the multiplayer scene). I'd say it's a good, yet wacky, game. It's certainly a far cry from the way more serious tone of Red Alert 1 and in my opinion even compared to RA2 it's way more crazy or much less grounded in reality so in oder to like this game you shouldn't take it really serious at all.
Among the best RTS games I've ever played. The crisp, satisfying gameplay, the exceptionally acted cutscenes, the engaging and entertaining story. Definitely worth a try.
Very Great game it has a funny story and a decent sized active community still.
One of my favorites, oddly specific but i always thought the water in this game was beautiful
went in with one of the best intros to an rts ive ever seen
left with getting hot and sweaty when i hear the words "kirov reporting"
Cannot run the game at all.
"Failed to fetch Steam App Name"
WTF
Man.... EA Los Angles..
This is how you make a video game.
I hope EA of 2025 takes notice.
The graphics are still great.
The Game is awesome fun.
Multiplayer.
Workshop.
Its Everything good.
Its the last time EA didn't poo the bed.
Great gameplay with a timeless soundtrack and great visuals, especially considering this game is almost 20 years old now. Comes with 3 asymmetric factions, 3 Seperate campaigns which are ALL full Co-op supported and a fleshed out skirmish/multiplayer mode (you need a community launcher for the MP now tho).
Easy recommend if you like base-building, alternate-history or just classic, high quality RTS gameplay.
I have beat this game in all campaigns twice, once on the xbox and once on Pc. The game is relatively easy, the soundtrack is crazy. The story and dialogue is cringe yet funny. Coop is pretty fun.
last mission is fucking bullshit the company doesnt know how to make interesting game play 0/10
I can't even launch the game after the 1.13 update. It NEVER went wrong before. When I launch RA3, it says, "Failed to send request!" Why am I encountering this annoying bug!? I have reinstalled the game and changed languages multiple times!!!
I guess this bug is somehow related to an internet issue. Sometimes, I can launch the game without any problems, but when my internet is unstable, I can't get in. But why does this offline game even require a stable internet connection!?
Great successor to the classic Westwood games with fun gameplay, hilarious cutscenes and great music.
Still a classic.
Pretty easy for the most part on medium though.
Best strategy game, everything design in a proper way. Only less maps to play, otherwise I recommend everyone to play it.
This game would probably have more players if it went back to being sold as a standalone game, not a collection like this. Also, I would like to get a new faction to play.
its still good online when u install CNC Online and use Gameranger to play with friends
You can play online again without any fancy process fully allowed by the publisher. Have fun online or with friends again playing a timeless RTS masterpiece of gaming that still holds it's own.
EA has disappointed for many reasons in recent years, however they have done one thing that is insanely good for gaming. GPL License sharing of the complete source code of many C&C games!
This deserves unlimited praise, if you haven't yet purchased this on Steam (maybe like me you had an original CD back in the day), please do to support this action by them!
Hopefully they do for Red Alert 3 soon too :)
Skirmish mode doesn't work since the v1.13 "update", which also broke the online services.
However, you can revert it back to 1.12 easily with the CNC -online Tacitus patch, which works.
I ABSOLUTELY love this game. Despite being from 2008 this game has well driven story and mechanics, I enjoy the old school pixelated art styles of these older games. It even received an update in 2025 for the source code and steam workshop support. I love the real cut scenes as it adds a level of realism to the game that makes it seem modern, and all the actors and especially the lady commanders (WOW stunning, strong and feminine) do a wonderful job. This is a must buy in my opinion as it will engage the thinking part of your brain and improve your problem solving skills as while there are guides out there they don't guarantee success due it being a Real time Strategy game. 11/10 wish more modern games put as much effort and care into the story, cut scences, acting and execution as this game and I look forward to exploring others in the series.
this became a classic but it still not as good as RA2/YURI and GENERALS/ZH
EA, pls just release the remaster of those games!
I literally +rep all EA Games for the single fact they released the Sourcecode for the old Command and Conquer games. thank you for that
ULTRA RARE EA W
Still holds up today amazing 8/10 today 10/10 with the community mods
I played c&c 2 red alert as a kid and this game is good. Just like I remember it. 8.5/10
One of the most under rated game ever. Curse on EA for shutting down C&C server with so many fans of the game. I love playing campaign from time to time and LAN play with friends is awesome.
1 star... cant edit skirmish map, souce very low, only 5 minus, game done
C&C RA3 and Starcraft are probably the games I've played the most
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 is an absolute masterpiece of RTS gaming! From its over-the-top alternate history storyline to the unique factions and units, every aspect of this game is packed with personality and excitement. The co-op campaign is a fantastic addition, adding a fresh dynamic to strategy gameplay, and the live-action cutscenes are pure gold.
The game’s balance between land, air, and naval combat keeps every battle intense and strategic. Each faction—Allies, Soviets, and Empire of the Rising Sun—feels distinct, with their own strengths, weaknesses, and incredible unit designs. Watching Kirov airships lumber across the sky or transforming Japanese mechs wreak havoc never gets old!
Even years after its release, Red Alert 3 remains as entertaining as ever. The combination of fast-paced gameplay, humor, and deep strategy makes it a must-play for RTS fans. Highly recommended!
It is realistic and explains the storyline well.
⭐️ Appalling/Terribly bad
The most pathetic game in the series.
Farfetched storyline with incredibly "Gung-ho" tactics, almost like they copied the gameplay from another game. DO NOT TOUCH THIS PIECE OF [Insert trash word here]. I felt like i was playing a completely different game, nothing like the original C&C series, honestly just feels like a slap in the face towards the franchise & it's community.
A unique sequel to the previous Red Alert games, bringing the comedy and absurdity to a level that even the actors struggled to not laugh but with great performances. It's a game that knows what it wants to be and doesn't take itself seriously, it's just there to take you on a silly ride, accompanied by fantastic music almost on the level of the second game.
Gameplay wise it's not my favourite, it has made various changes and not all for the better, there's more asymmetry between the factions which is nice in theory but it also means that some of them might play in a way you don't necessarily enjoy and have to adapt your playstyle. All units now also have a special ability, some more some less useful, but that adds too much micromanaging on top of everything, the way harvesting resources works now is instead more boring and has been simplified to the point of being an afterthought, the forced addition of a co-commander or co-op player if you use external tools, because why would EA keep supporting it, is particular and not my favorite.
Overall it's a good game, worth it for the campaign alone, but I don't think it's one of those which the gameplay will have me coming back for more time and time again
Wish more RTS like this these days. Story and humor is so good and interesting. Very cool idea of coop missions, also gives a very good bot if you don't have anyone to play with :) Back to days when EA really did good things
An amazing strategy combining absurdity and humor. The graphics match its chaotic tone. The main mechanics are building bases, collecting resources and large-scale battles.
Good graphics. Fancy weapons. Good AI. Cheap price. Working good on my Entry level GPU. Definitely worth it.
Steam isn't issuing CD Keys with this game, so you can't play LAN games with your friends.
The game itself is awesome.... but playing against your friends is what really made this shine. Sadly, without a valid CD Key you can't do anything but play solo.
A fun RTS that fallows the red alert franchise very well and dose not feel out of place it very good. The Dialog grate the animations the story all good and not out of place as i said b4 the whole thing is easy to get into.
It looks and feels different from RA2 but it is excellent and very fun in its own way. You need a third-party software from the community to play online. For some reason, the 30 fps cap in this one is more annoying than in C&C 3 Tiberium Wars and hurts the experience significantly more, panning the camera made me really dizzy at first, but after playing a few hours I am getting used to it., It might be due to the more diverse color scheme and higher contrast, the camera angle is also different which likely plays a role.
Tim Curry is the Premier of the USSR. What else do you need? Oh, right, it also has ninja robots with laser swords.
Really fun single player campaign. Must recommend.
Within its limitations, this is a good game. In my opinion I would like to see a sandbox function included in future upgrades
couldnt change the resolution for the life of me. when i changed it, it didnt let me select yes to lock the new resolution in place. why do they releases these if its not optimized. Not being able to change the resolution is just daft.
Incredibly fun to play, even after all these years later.
Feels like the game too a step back compared to red alert 2. It cranked the crazy up to 10. And RA2 & RA2YR was already very crazy. The 3d view looks weird compared to previous installments. If you want to play Red Alert games just get Red Alert 2,
Tim Curry, Jenny Mccarthy and George Takei in a role he was born to play... Emperor Hirohito.
i remember playing this as a kid, i wanted to reexperience it, especially for the videos, but i have to say, the game did not age well.
would not recommend
i remember having to ask my dad "5 more min" almost every night. Seeing that i can still fall in love with this game even after not playing for years is wonderful i hope this game brings as much joy to new players as much as it brought me :)

2008 was at its end and I must say, I was really excited. All of the sudden, after trying all sorts of new stuff (from dropping the original lore in Generals to turning the series into an f2p thing), EA took the U-turn and went all old-school in their C&C3. Tiberium Wars, while not being perfect, was a big surprise to old fans like me, who were ready to give up on a thing they used to love back in the days. Long story short, EA took the original C&C from 1995 and, well, gave us the next-gen version of it. All the advanced stuff Westwood planned for their own version of C&C3 was dropped, but honestly, at that point it didn't matter. What mattered is that we finally got our C&C back. Now they've promised us Red Alert and naturally, what I expected was the same thing, but with the ships. Because that's what the original RA was – same ol' C&C, just with the naval battles and some new features, right? Well, turned out I was wrong. Dead wrong.
Naturally, RA3 follows the RA2 formula. And that is something to be expected. RA2, despite insulting some old-school fans, was warmly welcomed and, let's admit it, after it became a thing, there was no turning back. The original concept was no more. Shared universe, the dark tone, the alternative history... Well, maybe not the alternative history. I mean, the original 1996 game was all about “What if?...” thing, in which Westwood tried to imagine the world without Adolf Hitler. Naturally, with Nazi Germany and the USSR being allies (they've signed a pact and then both invaded Poland the next month), it was USSR to start the world war in Westwood's game. EA? Well, they went even further back to the past. Even though it's generally considered that WWII began in 1939, in Asia it was going since 1937 (Second Sino-Japanese War), so... Yeah. We've got Japan. As a third playable faction.
Sounds rather smart, but like I said, don't expect anything serious here. RA3 is all about “OMG, LOL!” moments its predecessor was known for. Let's just say that Japanese forces here have a giant mecha kaijū with the light swords and forget about it, OK? RA3 is like RA2 on drugs. And, like Joey Tribbiani, it's not even sorry. No, seriously, it takes pride in everything. RA2 was cheesy? RA3 is probably the cheesiest thing in AAA gaming.RA2 sexualized women? RA3 feels like it was made by Larry Laffer and Vince McMahon. Et cetera, et cetera. And yes, EA threw in Hollywood cast again. We've got Tim Curry, Japanese Emperor is played by Star Trek legend George Takei, the American president is J.K. Simmons (AKA the J. Jonah Jameson)... Even that dumbass Gina Carano is in this game, which is a nice fit for her for a change. Anyway. Like I said, all that is to be expected. EA liked the direction RA took in the second game, they had the money... No surprise here. What shocked me was that... This game is nothing like C&C3. You know what we've got instead of it? We've got Generals 2. For consoles. Say wha-a-a-a-a-a-a...
I'm serious, though. I wish I wasn't, but I am. You know how sometimes the main series doesn't really fit on consoles, but publisher still wants it to be represented there? They make consoles-oriented spin-off. Something like, say, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Revolution. Something that aims for consoles audience, yet still somewhat akin to what PC counterpart was about. RA3? Is exactly that. While C&C3 was on Xbox 360 too, RA3 is also on PS3. And we all know just how much “fun” developing things for PS3 was (yes, that's, most likely, why we still didn't get Disgaea 3 in Steam). As the result... Well... RA3 looks like a console game, RA3 feels like a console game and in a nutshell, RA3 is a console game. Tiny maps, huge fonts... You know the drill. It wasn't time for Dragon Age II yet, but yes, that's the stuff. Really wonder why there's no gamepad support here, because, unlike C&C3, this game doesn't feel natural on PC.
Which... doesn't mean that it's bad. Exactly the opposite, it's incredibly fun. And that's... the worst thing about it. I'll explain why in a moment. For now, let's get back to Generals. Like I already mentioned, gameplay-wise EA Los Angeles didn't even try to deliver RA3 here. They've just gave us Generals 2. We've got, well, generals again, with all of their levels and abilities back, Spice / Tiberium mechanics is no more and we've got WarCraft-like thingy from Generals, we can build anywhere (with some “buts”, but still), etc. Which technically does sound like an arguable decision, but the thing is – there's one thing to justify all that. That thing is co-op. The whole thing is co-op-oriented. And even if you'll decide to play solo, you'll still share the map with your AI companion. All of those Generals elements were added for one single purpose – to make this game as quick and smooth as possible in co-op. See where this is going?
Yes, RA3 is one of those games. At the moment I write this, all of us can name at least some series that were heavily ruined by such an approach. MachineGames' Wolfenstein, Dead Island... RA3, on the other hand? It won a lot from it. Yes, it was all about tiny maps with not enough space for, you know, strategy. We were just teaming up in order to do some obvious tasks, but since the game was fast-paced (ish, speed slider still isn't a thing) and satisfying? It was just... Like I said, fun. Up to this day, RA3 is one of the funniest things you can play if all you want is just some quick RTS sessions. The factions are great and unique (all three feel totally different from each other), units are surprisingly complicated and sometimes even allow us to switch between different abilities, while the UI is totally fine and won't make you break your pace. Even the single player campaign (10 missions per faction) is not that bad. Even though yes, it does suffer from Generals problem, where it'll change goals on the way (which will lead to some pretty unfair surprises to you). Still, the main dish here is a co-op. It's smooth, it's fun and it's hard not to praise EA LA for what they've achieved with it. Like I said, though, it was not a good thing for the series.
Why? Think about it. What we have here is a co-op oriented spin-off for consoles. Which was sold as a real deal, as a part of main series. And it sold well. People loved it. Still do (despite the original GameSpy-based multiplayer being dead, there's still a third-party way to play online). Which made EA to believe that... That's what people want. That this here is how the series should be in the future. Not about old-school stuff, but about fast-paced short sessions online. Most of the people blame C&C4 for killing the series for good. That's how they've remembered it. But the truth is – it wasn't Tiberium Twilight that fired the poisoned bullet. This game did. Yet nobody hated it for that. Because it was crazy fun. Now, you may ask how did my old friend felt about it? You know, the man I've mentioned in my RA2 review? The one we disagreed about series' new look with? Well, we'll never know. Because at the moment of 2008 he was long dead. And there's some moral in that, I guess. You never know how things will turn out the next day. RA 3? It was one of them crazy turns. Worked great in a moment, but... Then again, let's talk about that in the C&C4 review.
I couldnt get into this game due to the terrible graphic design. It made the game hard to play - the bad 3d graphic units really made for difficult immersion compared to how cool the previous games looked. Despite older graphics.
"Conscript training finished!"
Obviously we all play Red Alert 3 for "the plot" :)
Seriously, though... this still delivers some 20 years later. The default install allows 4k resolution - which surprised me. The zoom is too close/tight for my liking but you adjust to it after a while.
The acting is hilarious 20 years later, but it was never intended to be Oscar award winning and the tongue-in-cheek appeal is still there, 100% intact and cracking me up as I plow through the Allied campaign on my way to the "Oh myyyyy" campaign, so to speak :)
