Beautiful art and animations, good music, good gameplay premise, but core gameplay feels incomplete and there is very little content. I only played for about an hour, over three sessions with long periods inbetween, but on the third go understood the controls well enough to find problems that made me want to stop playing. I tested most of the issues in the list below, but I might have misunderstood some of the gameplay mechanics, so please keep that in mind. The controls are difficult, and almost work against you. Bugs make it almost unplayable. A lot of thought went into some gameplay mechanics, and it shows because they are very detailed; a mid-air dash will angle itself up to avoid hitting a ramp, travelling parallel to whatever surface is far beneath you. The missile attack is quite "beautiful", as the Equipment menu describes them. There's a gif creator too, which is really cool.

Specific issues:

Key rebinding (through the Unity dialogue box) doesn't have any effect. Thankfully jump and dash have multiple keys so you can pick the ones you like (Q/E/F for dodge-dash, W/Space for jump).

You cannot dash (important for horizontal motion and invincibility frames I think) while pressing the jump buttons. This means if you're holding W or Space, and then press Q/E/F, you won't dash. You have to let go of W/Space, and then Press Q/E/F. This seems like a huge oversight, or a very strange feature. It doesn't make the game unplayable though.

The mouse cursor sometimes goes behind the floor in-game. Losing the cursor when you need it for aiming is a big problem, especially since it also moves the camera, albeit very, very slowly if you're trying to look all the way in a certain direction rather than just the general area to one side of your character.

The Shift-dash, a very fast continuous slide that follows the ground/walls/ceiling it runs into, sometimes will get stuck at the corner between the floor and a wall, leaving you there for a second or two until it decides to go up the wall. Other times this problem doesn't happen at all.

There are only 3 pistol types, 3 missile types, and 4 "core" types, which trade-off health and energy, with one that reduces both health and energy in exchange for a higher rate of fire. There are 3 more core types, but these seem to just be linear upgrades to the previous three. These amounts include your default items. As someone else stated in their review, I wasn't able to use the Homing Missiles I unlocked; regardless of what you equip, you will always have the same default loadout when the level starts. What's even stranger is that the default is supposed to be 3 slow seeker missiles, but the default missiles you have clearly fire a salvo of 6 missiles, and the Homing Missile unlock is described as shooting 6 fast "beautiful" missiles, so I'm pretty sure the default weapon is either not described properly, or is not actually equipped.

There are only three levels to play in, plus a tutorial. There is a page for lore, but no story other than that as far as I found.

All of the content I just mentioned need to be unlocked by playing with the default loadout and on the first level until you get to a certain level in the progression system. I've unlocked Homing Missiles at level 3, but the game does not tell you when anything else unlocks, so you're essentially grinding the same content until you reach an unknown, arbitrary level to play something different. This isn't a huge issue to me, but just feels like bad design choices. The game doesn't even tell you what has unlocked when you level up, you have to go and check for yourself.

Whenever you fire a charged shot, the recoil pushes you backwards. This is very cool and stylish, but also annoying for a fast paced platformer.

Getting hit cancels your charge, and it's relatively slow to charge, so it becomes practically unusable in the middle of combat. I had a much higher score when playing slowly, spamming uncharged attacks and slashes until all mobile enemies were dealt with near me, then I charged up the laser to hit enemies that showed up on the edge of the screen as I slowly moved around the level to avoid running into shots and enemies.

Despite the mouse being used in-game, the menus can only be used with the keyboard.

Someone else mentioned that you can only aim in 8 directions, even with the mouse, but this was not the case for me.

The cursor position is not bound to stay inside the window, so if you happen to move the mouse really far, you'll have to drag it back just as far to get the cursor to appear in the window.

When I paused the game, I saw an enemy on screen in the freeze-frame the game uses during the pause menu. I unpaused the game (using the Enter key, for some reason Spacebar doesn't work to select the pause menu options, which takes my hands off the WASD keys, or off the mouse, meaning I was unprepared to control my character) only to see that enemy disappear and after looking around for it, noticed it was on my character, damaging them. This didn't happen the second time, when I tested to make sure.

The game tells you to get a 10x multiplier to heal, but when I did so, nothing happened. I'm not sure if that just makes your attacks heal you.

The mouse cursor will stay at the last position you had it in when you tab out of the game. When you tab back in, the game's cursor does not move to where your mouse cursor is on the screen. You'll have to readjust/centre your mouse because of that.

Great idea and potential, but the speed you have available to you is too difficult to control without at least letting the player rebind keys, and not putting in arbitrary requirements such as having to let go of the W key in order to dash. Sorry, dev. I wanted to like it, especially with how pretty it is.

This game looks good and the music is very nice. However, the game has many flaws whgich don't seem to be getting fixed anytime soon. You can unlock 3 pistols and 3 "seekers" (missile type thing) but when you select any other of the other equipment from the default options then it doesn't carry through to when you get in level, therefore you can never use the weapons you unlock. The enemy spawn rate is quite punishing as well, a difficulty setting would be nice. It would also be nice. There are also too many enemy types in my opinion, the tentacle/wire enemy spawns way too commonly. You can't select the cores you unlock either as they reset to default when you go into a level. I refunded it but would buy again if they fixed these issues.

The game is pretty devoid of content but it has some interesting ideas in namely the wall/ground/ceiling dashing. If you're really curious, buy it like me and then refund it after your 1hr of fun because you will struggle to get past more than that. Steam is cluttered with more than enough of these amateur, cash grabbing, trainwreck games but at the very least, this one had a spark of ingenuity.

This game came out after a failed kickstarter for it described it as a Metroidvania:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/63518568/blood-alloy?ref=nav_search

The developer admitted to being able to work on it "for a decade and make it slowly" but nope, gotta capitalize on that failure of a kickstarter and push out a game that clearly is lacking in so many ways.

This guy worked for 5 years on QA for Harmonix (lol what QA) and then had 9 months in a design position.

Good lord there is so much wrong with the design of the game. Why have intricate movement but provide nothing beyond 3 small sandboxes to utilize it? Why is a 2d game made in Unity, a primarily 3d engine? Why does the camera ever zoom in given that it's an action game? Why does the camera stick in weird and inconsistent manners? Why is the mouse in an action platformer feel so floaty on default and absolutely breaks in the alternate input mode? Why are there no rebindable keys in an action game? Why do all the enemies have color palletes that blend in with the industrial background? Why is there a wave slash mechanic that is never mentioned in the tutorial?

Why does the main character's backstory feel like some DeviantArt oc?

Why does the UI look like it was done in paint?

Why is the scoring system, the game's one source of replayability that isn't contrived, just 2 multipliers with expiration bars? You'd think a bit more thought would go into it such as slowing the bars when moving at speed or tracking net DPS or allowing faster energy regen on higher multipliers or literally any other tacked on addition to make it at least somewhat rewarding.

Why was this game ever released for 12 USD when I feel like I got ripped off for paying 6?

"But what about the gameplay depth" you ask? It's so barebones that I've exhausted my interest in the hour I spent. In essense, the energy meter is tied to your dashing and melee. Melee can be used to halt momentum and also move in a limited direction even in the air. You can also cancel out of a sheathing animation by shooting your primary fire but NOT by dashing.

Basically, the game is conserving your meter and using your dash attacks to clear the hordes(homing missiles and wave slash). There is a dodge mechanic in there but it lingers simply far too long and offers so little control that the I-frames are not worth the loss in mobility. I can consistently hit 8k score and the other options of slightly different pistols and slightly adjusted stats do not look appealing.

I hate to be the first guy to speak ill of a game (in my language anyway) that clearly has alot going well for it but well I do not recomend this game and have asked for refund.

The problem is that this game is really more of physics sandbox with the ancient high score indicator as the only real incentive to do well. So there's not really much of a "game" just a clear cut reflex quick-twitch reaction tester. It really hurts to say all this because well damn is it fun to sprint around and ninja kick your way across the screen and roll through a hazard bot holding down a button to charge up your power, while sliding up a wall to fire multiple homing missles at a bunch of training bots and jumping through another obstacle. SOOOOOOO the Adrenaline is great in here man. Unfortantely it's much like a trip to the bearded clam as after they hype there just isn't anywhere fun to go with all of this excitment. There are a very limited set of enemies that behave in a very defined pattern and while the soundtrack and unlockable content is a nice touch there's just not enough incentive to keep me interested. No dynamic enemies demanding my Ninja Skills attention or story elements giving me some loose sense of direction to cling too. The Environments themselves are exactly what you see above and that's it...the whole game's backdrop has already been painted and displayed to you at the top of the Store Page.

I understand this game was a failed kickstarter and that may be the reason Blood Alloy is what it is today. It seems like they did it up making a tight physics engine and put a ton of effort into a demo. Unfortunately it looks like they may have than ran out of money to make an actual game. If this is in fact what happened I'll note this as the first time I've actually regretted not donating money to help this thing happen. This is a shell fo a game that is going to be great it's just that now it doesn't look like it will ever get going.

Really though this game ENGINE is superb and if it were sitting inside of an audi or bmw frame this would be a must have...instead it's just jammed inside of an old-school VW Van and I'm too old for cross country road trips. This game was an amazing start maybe someone else will grab the baton and run with it. Here's hoping....

No idea how to rate this really. I enjoyed it for exactly 20 Minutes and realized where the title was going (nowhere) and was bored stupid after another 20.....but that ninja, slash, dash, sword thrust hijanx though....

4/10???

This game is a fast paced survival type of game. You hold as long as you can while making the highest score and reaching some "achievement" like not firing for 2min or dodge an attack, etc.

The levels are not that big while not being small either but give you enough space to move around.

I won't lie, it takes a little while to get use to the character's special moves and the entire energy system, dash, homing, and so on... (don't expect to make those cool fast move seen in the video just right off the batch, you'll need a little training even if they're pretty easy to execute in the end)
Don't expect either high score from the start, you'll die pretty quickly but it doesn't really matter as there aren't any progression as in a regular platformer but instead an exp. system which unlock stuff at each level (including song to play during a level because yes, you can chose it later on)

What I would definitely recommend to get this game for is the soundtrack, if you like what you hear in the video, jump on it ! Getting this game without buying the soundtrack makes little sense :P

In the end, a really nice coffee break type of game in which you can sink in for 5 or 30min or longer if you're absorbed by the game =)

I barely started yes but the mechanics really hooked me and I'm still getting used to it.

On the down side:
-No real level progression, it's a survival arena only
-No story whatsoever, it's all about score streak and ranking.
-No mouse in the menu (it's a bit weird)
-Few options in game (no difficulty settings, time of survival defines the difficulty, no control remap in game, no graphic settings... All done through the launcher which isn't necessarily a bad thing but a bit annoying)
-A work in progress type of tutorial
-No coop or VS (online or splitscreen) :( could have given much to the game IMHO
-Only one character, no choice even she's enough by herself

Up sides:
-Really cool idea
-No frustration to have to play hours upon hours, satisfying as a coffee break
-Cool exp. system which rewards the player
-Survival with difficulty progression
-Cool move set, easy to learn and hard to master
-Music, Music and again Music ! Entertaining while playing and sticking with the sci-fi theme
-Graphic style, you like the pixel art or you don't... I did and place it as a strong point
-Score ! While not being a fan of score games, I was hooked to the system and wanted to beat myself on the next try :)
-Size of level
-Level design full of obstacles to jump, run, and slide on !

Blood Alloy: Reborn does a fantastic job of staying true to the core of what a score attack game needs to be -- easy to learn, but hard to master. The fast-paced movement feels incredibly tight and the combat has plenty of depth, making you fight for every single point you earn. This game will demand a lot from you, but will reward you handsomely for your efforts.

Blood Alloy is an incredibly challenging action game that is dripping with style. I should really stress that Blood Alloy is NOT an easy game. You might find yourself getting frustrated at first, but stick with it! After a few hours with the well-tuned controls you'll be comboing like a cyborg god.

Great music and overall a lot of fun!

Stylish and fun with fantastic aesthetics. The camera whips around a bit too much and the controls could use some polishing up, but overall this is a pretty damn good action game. If the camera was centered on the character so you could see what was going on better and the aim snapped to enemies so you could pop them off one after another then it would be pretty much perfect.

Just an absolutely brilliant little score-chaser action game. Plenty of variety in attacks, and gradually-intensifying swarms of enemies to mass-murder, reward muscle memory and planning. Got to 11k+ points and spawned the boss in the first day, hoping to go further and unlock more stages and weapons.

Great little game that will only get better as the developer tweaks and adjusts everything.

The New Hotness.
I've had my eye on Blood Alloy for sometime. I've never passed on the opportunity to play it at PAX East or BostonFIG, and now I am happy to say the final product lives up to expectations. The initial tutorial is a little rough, but once the camera pulls back and the gloves come off, the game does not disappoint. You'll be dashing, slashing, running, and gunning your way through waves of enemies, with nearly reckless abandon, all while enjoying the grooves of a killer soundtrack. It's not a game that demands a lot from you and you'll be unlocking new items, levels, and music every couple rounds.

Now for the main reason why I'm posting this review: justification of cost. At $12.99, no, it's not the cheapest game ever made. It's also not the most expensive one, and I can say on good authority that the developer, Suppressive Fire, has been busting their butts for YEARS to get this game out. The results speak for themselves. It's smooth, fast, and most importantly, so far for me at least, stable. People have paid much more for games on Day 1 that can't even connect to their own servers. Blood Alloy offers a solid chunk of content with really fun gameplay for a fair price without ANY online requirements. For a game to be stable on Day 1 in 2016 shouldn't be such a shock, but it honestly is.

The game seems to be set up in such a way that if enough gamers support it, more content will follow. You may think that means waiting it out, but it's a catch 22: they can't make content unless you support it, but you don't want to support it unless they make more content. To that I say, give me a break. There's no Season Pass, there's just the game, and this is a game and a developer worth supporting. Watch this game can ramp up over time and become unstoppable. Like I said, it's a solid chunk of content built on a very solid foundation.

I would say this seems like an excellent game for streaming. With rounds being (for me at least) under 5 minutes long, and a consistent reward loop, this has the makings of a great game not only for communities to enjoy, but potentially even for competitions.

If I had any feedback, it would be that the mouse is very sensitive and is currently unresponsive in the menu; the vertical dash section of the tutorial is pretty punishing; and the menu UI could use a bit more polish and some more options like max camera distance and screenshake level, but these are HARDLY killer criticisms and the kind of stuff that can be taken care of in a patch or two. The game itself is great. G-R-E-A-T great. Pick it up and support a really cool developer who's made a really cool game.
