This game makes me want to go mini-golfing! Minus the gators.
I enjoyed Sam & Max Hit the Road the absolute most of the time. Even while I was stuck plot-wise, I discovered tons of fun interactions and dialogues, and the dialogues here are very entertaining and hilarious (even the response to the repeated attempt to pick something up is nice). You also get this funny pair of main characters that you see on the game cover and an absolutely awesome intro music.
However, there were also a couple of times when I was totally furious about the way this game was. I would in general call it an "unfriendly game design". For example sometimes the screen won't move unless you move really close to the edge, so if you're not stubborn enough, you might just miss part of the room (it gets much easier after you know about it but it is extremely irritating before). Or there was also a time when the intended interaction with a "minigame" was not explained at all and you have to click everywhere in every way you can to find a solution. I was completely stuck twice for these exact reasons and I didn't like it at all.
But when you move forward after that, you feel really great and motivated to beat the game and find out where does this adventure bring you in the end.
Summary:
I would recommend Sam & Max Hit the Road to everyone who likes point & click games in general and especially to those who want to know the classics of the genre and are not afraid of some challenge.
And here are some non-spoiling hints for those who'd join the Freelance Police:
1) F5 is important for managing the game, and pressing "Help" there shows you some useful commands
2) You can exit the road minigame by pressing Q
3) Try walking everywhere you can click and if you're stuck plot-wise try interacting in every way you can with everything you can (that's more or less standard for all point & click games but here you have more options than usual, so try them all)

This game is a flashback into my Childhood. Love the sarcastic!
I don't really like point-and-click games, but this one is so charming and funny that I stuck with it till the end. Be warned it is hard at times and barely gives you any hints, but it's worth it for how funny it is.

this game made me realise that, maybe im not cut out to be a wise cracking detective with a psychotic, little, god knows what hunting bigfoot and going to vaguely child appropriate parent traps in a fictitious america.

Never played a sam and max game. It was a bit difficult to figure out some of the solutions but super fun. Game is really funny and I love the art of the game.
Exceptionally hand-crafted yaoi/yuri, depending on who you ask.
Loved the game. Very complicated, though it's very nice and holds well today.
Sam & Max Hit the Road has a unique art style and some genuinely funny moments, but overall, it’s an outdated and frustrating experience. The humor is offbeat and often hits the mark, with Sam’s dry wit and Max’s manic energy providing some good laughs. The visuals, while charming in a retro way, feel stiff and dated today.
However, the game is bogged down by overly obtuse puzzles. Many solutions feel arbitrary, relying on trial and error rather than logic, and the hint system does little to help. Backtracking is frequent, and the slow, clunky controls make navigating the world a chore.
While Sam & Max has its moments, the tedious gameplay and lack of clear direction make it tough to recommend, especially when there are more polished adventure games out there.

IT'S ONLY $6 GET IT U WONT REGRET IT!! i played through this when i was just getting into Sam & Max and BOY it did NOT disappoint! it's seriously such a fun and unique little game that even if u have no clue who Sam & Max are yet it's still fun. the sprites and backgrounds are amazing and so are the animations, it's just got a great look overall and theres so many cool little details scattered throughout! only thing i was sad about was i wish i had gotten to buy and play this back in the day and experience the fun bonus games/content that came with it :')

really friggin good! amazing humor and animations, especially for its time. some of the puzzle solutions are a bit out-of-this-world, but hey, the games' built on not making entire sense lol
I must say this is my favorite Sam and Max-Game, the level-art and the funny and crazy places you can visit are awesome, as well as the music and the dialogues^^
i don't know how it took me nine hours to finish this game but it was really fun
Great game
Love this game. My Uncle used to play this when i was like 9-10 [1998-1999]. He used to make all the voices because our sound card didn't work. Always a special place for me!

Unfortunately my brain is too small to do the puzzles, so I have to look at a walkthrough 80% of the time
