I walked into the light...
6 of 5 must play.
5 of 5 great story great game-play.
4 of 5 great story average game-play.
3 of 5 average story great game-play.
2 of 5 play only if it's your favourite genre.
1 of 5 play if you have nothing better to do.
0 of 5 play if you're a masochist.
-1 of 5 avoid.
Wooden Floor score is 0 of 5.
No story. No puzzles necessarily. Jump scares are very bad.
Its an OK game I think I only paid £2.00 for it in a Steam sale so for this price I would say yeah I recommend it as it has no bugs or issues BUT.
There are no Steam achievements I played the whole game in one sitting so I cant say about save game but I dont think there was and no jump scares.
I can only recommend this game in a Steam sale for the price I paid I will be giving this game a thumbs up as I mentioned there are no bugs or any issues and I have played worse games than this.
Ehhh. Not really a horror game in my opinion. Kinda eerie with a dark atmosphere and several times you see a random object appear and move on its own. Played it for an hour and i've had enough.
This game definitely has atmosphere, and works very, very well to ramp up the tension about what the hell is going on. Very fun, and a good scare.
wooden crap is a better name.
Horror games these days are in no short supply, especially in the indie department, so it's always a gamble on whether you're going to get a decent, entertaining game, or another cheap cash-grab piece of trash. Luckily, Wooden Floor is more on the decent side of things. It looks good, the atmosphere is pretty well done, the sound is great, the mechanics work well enough. There was one or two parts that frustrated me a little bit, but every obstacle and puzzle within the game is pretty easy to figure out and overcome on your own. The story, while being incredibly vague and very non-specific, is interesting. It feels fresh for this kind of game, which I definitely appreciate. Hopefully they flesh things out a little more in the second one (I have not played that one at the time of writing this review).
$6 isn't a horrible price for the game, but I would recommend trying to get the game when it's on sale. While it is an interesting, and, for the most part, entertaining game, it's VERY short. If you take your sweet time checking out every little detail in the game like I did, you'll complete the game in about an hour. I imagine anyone that doesn't stop and look at everything will finish around 45 minutes or so. But overall, I enjoyed it, and will be getting the second game in the series.
I would like to start off by saying that this game is just not good. Story doesnt make any sense at all, theres no run key, and its not even scary. Its more of just suspende than it is scary. Thank god i only paid $2.39 for this game because it is crap.
The more horror games you play, the harder it gets to review them. You're never quite sure whether you're bored because you've suffered the same jump scares, the same scenarios, the same possessed furniture flying around the room a hundred times before or because the game is genuinely dull, directionless and uninspired.
It's a little bit of both for Wooden Floor, although I'd have to say right from the start that an obvious effort has been made to stand clear of the worst cut-and-paste asset jobs on Steam. It's a nice looking game with a serviceable eerie score that earnestly attempts to build up a creepy atmosphere without jackhammerng your speakers with obnoxious jump-scares.
With that said, the game is far too repetitive to keep anybody but the most inexperienced horror fan on edge. You move from one room to the next, tracking down keys. The hook is that Wooden Floor is supposed to be procedurally generated but you have to close the doors behind you to allow that to happen which completely shatters the fluid disorientation that the game wants to mine out of that mechanic and it's something that has been done far better in even the most mediocre of this platform's indie games. Even Hektor, as decidedly average as it was, managed a far better job of dizzying its player with its random room generation.
There's the occasional attempt to break things up with a chase sequence here and a boss fight there but they feel like late afterthoughts, as if Wooden Floor itself knows that it's struggling to hold your attention and so procedurally generates you something else to play in a panic.
Not terrible. Nowhere near interesting. Full review below.

The game is spoilt ny the lack of auto save points.
If you die you go back to a prevous point having to repeat already done sections, rather than a comvientent pont to continue the gane.
The gane can only be rated as poor until the gamed is updated to remove these failings
It's always refreshing to see a horror game that focuses on unnerving moments, rather that jump scares. However, I don't think this game is worth six dollars. Get it on sale.
First of all, strike the idea of this being a horror game from your mind. The developer was smart to not put that tag on this game but apparently some users couldn't resist. It's not scary. At all.
This game takes a leaf out of the books of such games as Dear Esther and Anna focusing more on trying to create an environment than to create gameplay. Not exactly my cup of tea but I'm fine with games that try to do this. Even if they do have an increasingly annoying unfiltered, nonrandomized creaking noise in the background every few seconds.
So I was still on board as I was getting lost due to the dodgy lighting not allowing me to see where a particular door is. I was with it, I was fine! But then, platforming section out of nowhere? And poorly done with weak timing and arbitrary waiting grinding away at my patience instead of testing my skill at 3D platforming. Starting to lose me.
Then follow that up with an escape sequence... wait an escape sequence? I don't have a run key and if I did you didn't have the courtesy to tell me about it. How am I supposed to do an escape sequence in this game, walk out at the exact speed I walked into the room while avoiding arbitrarily placed and completely unchallenging obstacles to a soundtrack out of a free creator's pack with wooden planks chasing me?
... oh... yes apparently.
I was actually pleased when it bugged out and a key disappeared so that I could go play something else. This game is maybe worth $1.00 for the novelty and the few moments at the beginning that show some promise but I'm glad I didn't fork over any more than that.

Im not one to play too many horror games, but tihs one proves to be quite the gem. Put together the unpredictibility(thats a word right?), the eerie atmosphere, and the all around unsettling soundtrack, and you get a game that is worth every cent you put towards it. This game takes a different approach with horror. Instead of random pop-up jump scares, it'll try to creep you out by getting inside of your head with things such as floating books and evil eyes. The only issue (if it can even be called that) in my opinion is the lack of a save system, but when this game is as short as it is, there really isnt a point to a save system, so mabey its just me fussing about over nothing. In any case this game is one worth playing and will definitley give you something to think about next time you go into the attic.
10/10
Only played for 20 minutes in the dark with headphones.. I was ~just~ creeped out enough that I'd wait for daylight to play it further, I don;t want to get completely creeped out -lol. If you are at all jumpy or yielding to your own imagination this simple idea is quite effective. If you are jaded and not easily swayed move onto something more grand.
I have played many games and creatures with big pointy teeth are not as scary as my own psyche. This would be truly frightening if the graphics were as detailed as the audio effects which are just flawlessly executed. So far, I feel this game is something like a creepy Stanley Parable, less the humor; I've spent more money on worse.
This is another game where I wish there was a "maybe" option between yes or no as far as recommending goes.On the one hand, I liked the look and feel. The sounds creeeped me out and were great! On the other hand I hate games that have no save and there was almost no story line/plot. In the end I decided that I liked it enough to give a weak thumbs up.
This is one solid horror indie game that definitely deserves more attention. A good one, I must say, a very good one. The game writing seems like the work of the professional and I haven't encountered any technical issues. The combination of these features is actually pretty uncommon these days.
This is not a typical horror game, it's more of a creepy haunted house simulator. And it's very interesting.
A lot of bad horror games have come out recently and this is a step in the right direction. It's not perfect, but it's got it's own vibe, and it works well.
and it's 6 bucks.
So ask yourself: Do I like the idea of a house that does what it pleases? Would I find it fascinating to roam around a building where the tension is based more on shifting geometry rather than lurking monsters? Am I tired of paying money for a "horror" "game" that is 'predictable' and 'broken'?
If you want a new freak out experience please check out Monstrum, it's fantastic. If you have a few bucks and want a weird little head trip that's fine being its own thing, pick this up and support a talented developer.
And, PS, a note to the developer. I would be happy to send you a few corrections grammar-wise to the notes lying around. I love your game and I think the slightly broken english is the one thing that needs a fix pronto.
Havent played much of it yet, but from the time I was playing it was kind of confusing and thought I bought a game that seemed very broken and went nowhere from playing 5 minutes of it. I managed to get prettyh far and liked what I saw. I will be adding a better review later just wanted to say its a cool game and is pretty scary maybe not worth the 6.49 but would be a great game to get onsale.
