i love it
This game is great, but I would advise getting it's newer counter part World of Mixed Martial Arts 5 off of greydogsoftware's website. The newer one has updated character portraits, UI, and tons more to do and edit.
A mixed martial arts booking sim sounds like a lot of fun, but the interface here is extremely crude, and the game doesn't offer much in the way of a tutorial or instructions.
I've played this game quite a bit. If you're looking for a challenging experience this might not be the right title. It's actually quite easy, just time consuming. But not in a bad way. I enjoy a relaxing game sometimes.
Great game. I consistently play it, however it wasn't what I thought it was. I thought I'd be managing a team, but managing a League is actually surprisingly fun. So if this seems like your thing, than it probably is worth your time.
I can't believe how many hours I have on this game.
Doesn't seem like much but it's very addicting and a very chill game to play if you need to multitask.
Great time waster. Still have mods out there. WMMA 5 is better as a customized sandbox but WMMA 3 has the simplicity at heart of all the other games in the series. You pretty much only don't get Blurcat Forums from WMMA 1 but the game is backed up on Steam which is what you want most in a game like this that can take up years of playing.
I can imagine this being a bit of a hit or miss kind of a game because it's by no means perfect. Be that as it may, I really enjoy it. Ryland seems to be good at sims, but to me his magnum opus so far is the comic book hero version with it's larger emphasis to storytelling, dialogue and whatnot.
Add the drama to this one as well and we'll have a killer sim in our hands. Personally, I don't care at all that much for the gameplay. The excellent editor is what makes this stand out for me. I just like to unwind, create new fighters, universes and whatnot in order to kill time. Haven't seen an MMA simulator game that did the aforementioned better than this one yet.
If you love the idea of running a MMA company, especially during a certain time period. This game is perfect for you. There are mods out there to play in certain eras of MMA, or you can go with a completely original experience with premade fighters. Keep in mind, the game can be slow. Like most simulator games, you have to deal with the boring things such as fighter contract, negotiating TV/PPV deals, keeping your finger on the pulse of the MMA market. But overall, the payoff is worth it. Watching your fighters grow from small local names to big time superstars is a fun experience if you have the time. But be prepared to spend time on it, the game can take a bit of time loading if you use certain mods with 1000s of real life fighters/vcompanies in the database. For me its a 7/10
Pretty good MMA sim all in all with a lot of room to improve,
Pros:
-Very Indepth, virtually everu aspect fo the world is assigned a number value and impacts the game in some way as far as I can tell
-Balanced, from what I can tell there is no one fighting style that gains the upper hand
- FANTASTIC fighter artwork, honestly some of the best 3d models ive seen in a while
- Tense and exciting battles when the matchmaking is done right
Cons:
- Tedious as hell, the contract negotiation stage is a huge drawback for me and the skip multiple days option in the options menu seems to be a little buggy
- Needs a more reliable way of finding young talent besides replacing old/ dead fighters
- The button paths could use work, by that i mean instead of individually clicking "add match" button each time you need to add a fight, allow the player to stay on the current screen and have the card update offscreen and allow the player to create as many fights as they want in one go. Similar issues like this appear in a few places in the game.
Conclusion and Suggestions:
All in all a good MMA simulator but the fanchise has an opportunity to have staying power in the genre with some changes. Firstly I would look at implementing a contract negotiation system like that found on the free online basketball simulator "Basketball Manager". Like I explained before button paths could also use some work. Future renditions should look to add a more detailed fight that takes further variables into account with a possible highligh reel at the end of the card.
WMMA3 isn't terrible, but not worth $20 anymore. Get it when it drops under $10.
For what it is, it does present a pretty decent WMMA booking experience. It's entirely text-based, which is fine for me but might not be for some players. As a text-based sim it's not at the level of OOTP or Football manager, so don't expect the same level of polish.
I don't know how the people on Steam are, but the website forum community isn't especially friendly to non-regulars, so you might have to figure out some nooks and crannies of the game on your own.
Keep in mind that this is a pretty old game at this point. The dev only sells their old games on Steam. You have to buy newer releases off their website, but when you do that you'll have to deal with E-license and all of the problems that arise from it.
I have spent a vast majority of time on this game between a couple different promotions. It has been a blast! If you have ever liked a tycoon game in the past and are a fan of MMA, this game may be for you! It is a little slow going at first until you learn all of the basics but then after that, it has been nothing but pure joy :). If you have ever dreamed of running your own MMA promotion then this game is definitely for you!
This game is not without its flaws (and there are a LOT of them - mostly to do with the horrid interface), but it needs to get noticed by more gamers. Why, you ask?
1. It's the only game of its kind for MMA. No other management sim comes close.
2. It's a statisticians wet dream. Every single fighter in the game has a unique profile, dozens of different attributes, and a fight history that develops over the course of the game.
3. Each fighter is also represented by some very nice artwork. (And many of the women are hawt!)
4. Even though it is a text-based game, the fights seem like they're happening right in front of you. If something exciting is happening in the ring/octagon, you'll get messages such as BIG STRIKE! appear in bold red, and it brings the events to life.
5a. The main reason why I love this game is the editor, which allows you to completely customise the entire database of fighters, companies, TV shows, etc, to your liking. Why other management sims don't do this, I'll never know. It adds a tremendous amount of value, (thus the hundreds of hours of play time.)
5b. There are loads of brilliantly made fan mods available out there.
Fun, even if the the user interface is primitive at best. Essentially a playable spreadsheet. Highly recommended for anyone who likes following the "behind the scenes" news of MMA
Great game for those looking to play as a CEO/matchmaker such as Scott Coker or Joe Silva/Dana White. You manage a MMA company and attempt to make them monetarily viable. You set the rules, hire fighters and organize the fights. All of the default/organizations are fictional, there is supposedly a real world mod however I gave up looking for it after a few google searches leading to outdated download links and old threads. The base game starts 4 years after I started watching MMA back in 1998. Back than the sport was truly evolving and I'm glad the game is dated for that period. While you won't find the actual characters like Igor Vovchanchyn, Sergei Kharitonov or Krazy Horse Bennet you will find a lot of unique interesting made up characters who fit the mold nicely. Certain characters definitely have similiarities to real ones such as Mark Cohen..old school wrestler who if you were watcing back than could definitely appreciate. Watching MMA 20 years ago isn't required to have fun with this game, simply the desire to enjoy a unique approach to the strategy genre within the MMA medium.
I get excited every time I get to cut someone with a special character in their name simply because there's less of a chance i'll have to look up how to type that character if they were to ever headline a Main Event for a PPV.
Very addictive. Perfect example of "graphics aren't everything".
As you can see, I have put a little bit of time into this sim. And I have loved (almost) every minute of it. I only have one complaint though. The fighter contract system can get quite tedious as it is all manually done. I hear this is fixed in the newest version and it lets you automate contract renewals so I can't wait to see WMMA4 up on Steam in the near future.
It is important to note that I am not a fan of Elicense, which is the DRM that the official Greydog Software website version is using, hence why I purchase Mr. Ryland's games exclusively through Steam. So, with that said, Keep bringing them games over Adam!
If you like stat based games and have any interest in MMA I would highly reccommend this game.
It can get a bit tedious sometimes having to sort out contracts (which you will be doing a lot of the time) but provides a challenge that both annoys you but keeps you interested.
My playing time tells a lot about how good this game is

If you like MMA, then you NEED this game. If you have a good imagination, then you're set with the default database. If realism is what you're after, you can download and incorporate a real UFC mod/mods. Either way, it's worth the price.

EDIT: WMMA-4 is/has been out now, have around the same time on that as WMMA3. More in-depth options, reality shows, and noticeably improved UI in general are the highlights. Not on steam, but on the devs store, worth a look if you liked WMMA3
I was in two minds whether or not to recommend this or not.
Initially I started with KDM FC, which are an Asian based MMA organisation. They don't make much money, they have virtually no attendee's and inexplicably have a world class fighter on $500,000 per fight - which is guaranteed to bankrupt the organisation.
After a few in game months of running the organisation into the ground, I started to lose hope. But I restarted and chose one of the bigger federations, and after a year I've made quite a bit of money and feel like I am actually 'competing' with the other top companies.
It is not entirely clear what you are doing when you start out, what you are aiming for and what your immediate goals should be - especially if you don't take the easy option and go for a top federation.
I feel the game is missing quite a few features that would attract a wider audience. In one sense, it reminds me of a beta run of the original Football Manager game - but a bare bones versiona at that. Databases full of 'ever so slightly different looking' fighters are one thing, but there need to be more actual features the user can use in order to feel they are actually influencing the path of the gameplay.
In many ways, this game is for me "Joe Silva (UFC head booker) MMA contract and booking simulator" instead of WMMA3. And the contract system is WOEFUL. Why on earth you have to have a time delay on signing talent - especially unemployed fighters - is beyond me. Well, not really. It's clearly a way of filling space in the game where nothing happens between events. That to me hints at a lack of a finished article to me.
What I would have liked in the game is more focus on training facilities/gyms that you can invest in, media events to send fighters to, sponsorship deals, drugs scandals, a more developed in-fight text display with a greater variety of descriptions (eventually incorporating some kind of graphical display). greater interaction with the fighters, inter - federation matches, and more. But I do appreciate that you have to draw the line between a text based engine and a sports game such as the UFC Undisputed series, as you can't really have the depth of detail and the sports sim in the same game.
Ultimately though, I do recommend the game and I have enjoyed playing it.
Being a fan of MMA and also a fan of management/simulation games, I figured this game would be right up my alley. Boy, was I right. By "right up my alley" I mean life-consuming time-destroyer. Very few games have ever actually made me emotional. The part of Red Dead Redemption when you first ride into Mexico as the sun is setting and the music starts playing, that made me emotional, I felt a sense of freedom and adventure that no game has before, or since, evoked in me. That, however, is not the kind of emotion I get from WMMA3. The emotions I have felt in this game have ranged from "NO! I just spent 5 fights getting this dude up to main event status and now he refuses to resign with me!?" (Anger) to "HOW DID SHE POSSIBLY LOSE TO THAT BUM I ONLY HIRED FOR ONE FIGHT" (Also anger, and confusion) and also "This dude wins the belt and now wants to take a hiatus to spend more time with his family? WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR FAMILY! GET IN THAT CAGE AND MAKE ME MONEY YOU JERK!" (Anger again.....hmmmm, this game really seems to anger me). But I digress, although the game can be infuriating at times it's also supremely satisfying to set up a ripper of a card and have everything fall into place as you get fight ratings of Great/Fantastic and the ever elusive Excellents. I usually judge games based on $/Hr of Gameplay. My base ratio being 1:1. I spent $22CAD on this game on a sale and so far I'm at 142hrs on record so a ratio of 22:142 or $1/6.45hrs so I am extremely happy with my purchase. If MMA and Simulation games are your thing and you're not on a hunt for mind melting visuals and sweeping orchestral soundtracks and would rather just have some fun setting up MMA fight cards and building up your own MMA company, this is the game for you my friend (I assume if you are looking at this game on Steam, we'd probably be friends, unless you're a jerk, in which case, I don't want to be friends, you jerk).
I absolutly love this game, The UI is a little clunky and I could not find any way to change screen size or resolution. Regardless i have played this game for about 10 hours on and since buying it yesterday and I am hooked. Love signing free agents and building my roster. Can't wait until WMMA 4 is availible on a steam, would buy day 1.
"Edit" I have played this game so much, i have so many stories to tell, legends that were made. great game.
