A finalist of Intel’s Level Up 2011 game development contest, Trash TV’s addicting action and clever puzzle design is coupled with a haunting background brilliantly set by the chilling ambient tunes. Thematic visuals with a “fuzzy” screen style and static transitions completes the retro video charm. Each of the six different locations will have different puzzles to decipher and obstacles to maneuver through, with the solutions usually involving one of eight lethal weapons. From double uzis that blast through crates, C4 explosives to trigger floor panels, to the rocket launcher that can blast your TV character across the screen through “rocket jumping” techniques, the tricky puzzles in Trash TV will often require a careful yet explosive solution.
Key Features
- Weapon Solutions: Take control of eight powerful weapons ranging from pistols, paired Uzi machineguns, shotguns, and rocket launchers to solve clever puzzles. Oh, and of course – blow $#!% up.
- Six Locations to Explore: Traverse six different areas, each with their own devious traps, obstacles and enemies.
- Explosive Puzzle Solving: Use your arsenal of weaponry in a myriad of ways to get through tough obstacles, devious traps, and malfunctioning machines.
- Thematic Visuals: Stylized visuals to match the tube television main character, bars n' tone screens, and static noise transitions.
- Ambient Soundtrack: A chilling ambient soundscape adds to the "machine graveyard" background of the recycling factory levels.

Trash TV is a short snack-like experience. It has a good mixture of puzzles, platforming and combat which is contained in an charming visual style. It feels a bit like one of those games that came from nowhere and nobody played before it returned to nowhere, which is a shame because I'd say it's a good experience and somewhat graceful in it's simple gameyness. It's lacking in frills and pretensions and what you see what you get.
In some ways it is almost difficult to talk about because of how pared down the design is. Watching the trailer tells you everything about the game and while it's perhaps lacking in surprises it is a good example of a simple idea well executed.
It won't change your life, but most things don't and that doesn't make them any less worth enjoying. Just as how with food sometimes all we want is a PB&J at home - sometimes we want a simple game to kill a few hours. Trash TV delivers a solidly satisfying PB&J.
this game almost got a thumbs up I liked the look and feel, but the puzzles are dumb, overly complicated with no help other then a annoying looping graphic that hopes you can get the idea from that, dumb 3.4/5
the game play is okay, but the tone and atmosphere is really boring, to the point where i don't care to finish the game
It's short and simple and really nothing special. Mediocre platfromer as it is. I am between recommending and not recommending it, but since there is no such option here - I would caustiosly say YES to it just because it is decently executed and I need to give some praise to a guy making it on his own.
Smash TV is a unique platformer-puzzler where the tools you use are guns. Had a lot of fun while playing it, but there are noticeable flaws and bug.
For starters, even with all your guns, combat is pointless. Enemies then to be either sponges or you get a ton of them thrown your way. Then when you get hit, you loose control and start running left or right until you hit a wall, then you change directions. This last for around 5 seconds and the only thing you can do is jump. While this does work very well for a platformer, the combat is kinda dull, which is fine since its not the main point of the game.
Also the losing control when you get hit could have been used in some really unique puzzles.
(For the guns keep in mind that combat is pointless, so only their functionality matters.)
The games gives you 8 weapons: pistol, dual smg, shotgun, bolt gun, C4, archer's bow, machine gun, and tv remote. You start with the pistol, a simple pea shooter. The dual smgs are automatic weapons which you fire in both directions. This is literally used once and then its useless. The shotgun fires a spread of bullets and is 100% worthless.
The bolt gun can best be described as a sticky grenade launcher, and is also the most useful out of all the weapons. In this game you are imune to explosion damage but you still recieve the knockback. In the game, you use it for its aoe to destroy boxes and to jump over stuff with the aid of the knockback.
The C4 is like the bolt gun but it drops C4 on the ground which you can explode by holding down the fire button (which was not well explained). It allows the same freedom of movement like the bolt gun except you no longer need a wall. It can also obviously be detonated remotely, which is used in some puzzles.
The archer's bow and the machine gun both seem to be optional. The archer's bow fires in an arc, powering up the longer you charge it, and eventually gains the ability to pierce. A feature that is only needed once in its area. The bow is also useless. The machine seems to be locked behind a puzzle that requires the archers bow, but it can be aquired with the bolt gun because of an obvious bug. The machine gun is an automatic gun that fires in one direction and constantly applies knockback when you fire. The knockback would be useful in a few areas to gain speed but the explosive weapons are much more useful.
The tv remote is a weapon that lets you switch between two versions of the room. It is the last one you get and is only used in 2 sections. It's potential is kinda wasted since its is only really used to switch around the platforms in the room.
So, out of all 8 guns only the pistol, bolt gun, the c4, and the tv remote is ever used. The game would have been a lot better if it focused on weapons that expand your movement options instead of useless guns that are used for one puzzle.
There are also noticable bugs in the end portion of the game. Examples include: tv remote not correctly switching platforms is some areas off the beaten path; game literally crashing if you use the remote in what I think is a secret area; a in game QR code does not work, either becasue of poor contrast or some other reason; mechanical noise not cutting out during the ending. Most of these are excusable since they easily avoided.
Also the game ends abruptly.
Overall, it was a very good puzzle-platformer and I wish there was more.
A quick, clever puzzle platformer with a throwaway story but nice atmosphere and enough mechanical variety to keep things interesting.
The game was around 2 hours of game play with puzzles and different elements you have to face. It lacks in replay ability but for what it is i like it it has a nice feel to it and the music is really good.
Pretty interesting game with brain challenging puzzles and at the same time straigh forward. However, there were several places were I felt stuck. If you do, just try an another approach. This game does not really require many skills. Pay attention to the level and you can easily walk it through in 2 hours.
I can't put my thumb on what kept me attached from beginning to end. I mean, that only took an hour and a half. There's no narrative, but there's just enough stuff going on to kinda make up a story as you go. The gameplay is easy, the puzzles not frustrating, and the music is something that makes you want to turn the SFX volume down low. The whole thing makes me think of old old old indie games, the freeware stuff made in MMF2, KnP, or Game Maker. Something like Within A Deep Forest or Knytt. It might even be worth the whole $7, if that's what spurs the devs on to actually make the sequel that was teased.
You're a damaged TV, miraculously revived, trying to escape a rubbish processing facility. This is largely done by puzzling your way though rooms, frequently by triggering switches to (de)activate lasers, moving platforms, barriers, etc. And careful jumping.
Amass an arsenal of conventional weapons and heavy munitions! Soon realise you won't get to use them in a proper fight against enemies. I think this is meant to be ironic. They're mainly tools for solving puzzles. Like, by spraying bullets for clearing away trash, or exploding to let you jump further.
The dumb automaton enemies aren't proper opponents. Because they don't seem to actually, y'know, oppose you. They're fine for what they are, placed as obstacles, as elements in the puzzles. Their contact with you has an interesting effect which was a cool touch: you temporarily lose control and behave like a walking drone, like them. Plus analogue TV-style visual distortions. Throughout the game, glitchy, static-like visual and sound effects abound.
The best parts are the time-limited action sequences, which can feel quite tense. It's a modern action game, so you've got instant restarts. You 'die' a lot. (Does that still trick gamers into thinking a game is hard?) This isn't a hard game, and rightly so. How much time do you want to spend in a dump? Fortunately it isn't like a huge sprawling castle, so it's not too long! It's about the right length, at under 2 hours.
3/5
Thrash TV is a 2D platformerm and a good but short game with interesting lvl which teach you how to use the new weapons with puzzles. Devolpers sad something about a second season but for now it looks like they forget about the game. I'd recommend picking this game on sale. I hope the devolpers will make the second season.
Pros:
-interesting idea
-cool Wepons
- good levels
-Graphic
Cons:
- it takes only 2h
- For now it looks like devolpers forget about the game
A very short and to the point puzzle/platformer. It's got a great feedback loop of always providing new areas and abilities. It only took me about an hour and a half to finish, but I enjoyed almost every minute of it! Good controls, wonderful sound design, and a cute story. This game is worth your time, and I'm very much looking forward to season 2!
How long are the levels? When can I finally reach a save checkpoint?
I was under the impression that this game would automatically save often, so I could play for a few minutes, then come back the next day and resume. NOPE! I still haven't hit the end of a level/checkpoint, which means I've had to replay the 30 min I played the day before, just to get back to where I thought I would have started. The "levels" seem unreasonably long, and don't give any suggestion as to how close you are to completing one. For this reason, I would not have recommended the game.
BUT, the game is really fun! The gameplay is super enjoyable, and each new room poses a new, unique puzzle. The game runs super smooth, and I overall just really enjoy playing the NEW puzzles. Replaying the levels (which for some reason was an implemented part of the game) is stupid and boring, though.
Still recommend for the gameplay and creative puzzles. Just make sure you have an hour+ to play and hope you made it to a save checkpoint before closing the game.
Controls well, a few clever puzzles. Very short. Worth getting on sale, but know that you're only getting a few hours of gameplay.
Simple puzzle platformer with an appealing asthetic. Not too hard, but just challenging enough to get you stuck for a few minutes and give you the pleasure of figuring it out. Took me a little over two and half hours to beat in its entirety and its totally worth it for $7.
An enjoyable platformer with a pleasing visual style. The puzzles aren't exactly complex, but it was still an enjoyable, but most of all beautifully styled expirience.
Fun with the ambience of Half Life 2 or Portal & Portal 2, Except you play as a side-scrolling gun-slinging robotic vintage television set stuck in a Recycling center. This is a puzzle game and a fun one at that. Decent graphics, music soundtrack could've been a bit more inventive and engaging. You don't get the dubstep in the video all throughout the game. Unlike most indie games this is worth my money. Reminded me of the good old days on C= Amiga. Well worth watching this author because he has come up with a killer combination. Can't wait for Trash TV 2.

After having finished this game I have come to the conclusion that it cannot be recommended. Why? Two reasons (The last one is a huge spoiler so be advised):
A) The game is only 2 hours long at a base price of 8 dollars. This is too high for a video game of this length. This is how long good free games on newgrounds are, or how long games like 140 are (which is 5 dollars). Even when edmund mcmillen bundled all his flash games into a bundle and sold it on steam the price was only 4 dollars. It is unacceptable for this game to cost as much as it does. However, this game does have a great potential for a multiplayer deathmatch mode and if that is added then this will definetely get a recommendation and be worth the money. This game cost almost as much and knytt underground and that is 24 hours long (and has better controls)
B)When you reach the end, all that happens is that the TV dies for no reason and the pixels that reaminated it dissappear. To make matters worse, the game fails to remove the background noise from the final area and so any emotion that could have been invested in the ending is just erased by that noise. Terrible.
Trash TV is a real short indie job. It's a good lookin' game with nice music and puzzles. My only problem, other than the length is that each level gives you a new weapon to solve puzzles in that level, and that weapon is used for puzzles in that level, and usually never again. There's a lot of good concepts that could have been elaborated on in this game, and some wasted potential. This game's good, but short, so wait for a sale or someth'n.
I had a lot of fun with this game. The controls are great, the art is on point, and the mood strangely has you fully absorbed in the life and perils of an old television set. If you like games that follow the same vein as The Legend of Zelda, Super Meat Boy, VVVVVV or Cave Story, this game is for you.
