To bolster the slash/thrust/parry weapons-based melee, every player pairs the new ability of their chosen job with one earned from an earlier job for an ever-evolving, two-fisted loadout. With up to 4 players mixing & matching, the possibilities are sprawling!
The fight gets fleshed out further by bots, teams, custom scoring, deeply tweakable procedurally generated battlefields and beyond with additional gameplay options.

Features currently available include:
- 'Critters' wander each biome, dropping a heart when killed (live as of v1.1.7!)
- 'Selection Hiding' to prevent opponents from counter-picking classes (live as of v1.1.4!)
- 'Terrain Generation Customization' that gives players the power to deeply customize the terrain generator (live as of v1.1.2!)
- 'Steam Workshop Class Tree Modding' that gives players the power to create & customize classes (live as of v1.1.0!)
- 'AI Challenges' with leaderboard support to bring fame to your hard-fought victories (live as of v1.0.16 & v1.0.14!)
- 'Achievements & Trading Cards' to round out the Steam game experience (live as of v1.0.16 & v1.0.13!)
- 'Spectator Mode' to set the AI on autopilot and relax as the melee unfolds (live as of v1.0.12!)

In the tradition of Street Fighter II, Warcraft II, Bomberman 2, Seiken Densetsu 2 and other greats you may not have played until they hit with part two, we present Grand Class Melee 2 - a game for those who like a little variety in their job system arena combat.
Check out the Demo if you want to try it first!

This game had a lot of potential. As far as I can tell the company is dead and there will never be a proper online multiplayer. Its a shame as I have fond memories of playing the first GCM off the xboxlive market place with immediate family. If you live in a big household, dorm, or just have friends that a good local couch pvp game, get this and maybe the Ogopogoid with be resurrected.
Played the 1st one on the Xbox 360 as an Indie Game. Doesn't hit the same but it's still fun
This is one of the best local multiplayer games that I have ever played- period. I played the first Grand Class Melee on my friend's Xbox 360, and had such a great time, because there is so much freedom in your character, and in countering the other characters- and that means that every game is unique in how you have to play. It means that gameplay can be incredibly meta and powerful, or cheap and gimmicky. This game is very similar to the first, but almost exclusively an improvement over the original. The lack of split screen games on the market makes this game a real treat to play, and is an excuse to get friends to be together. If there are any negatives to me, they're the lack of online, and the strength of the homing projectiles. The online is admittedly a not crucial, but the fact that these projectiles, which usually only move in 4 directions, are able to move any which way for a nearly unlimited time, it just too strong to not pick if you play to win. But overall the game is great, and I won't stop playing it for a long time.
Literally one of the best couch co-op games ever made. It does lack online multiplayer capability but it is still worth every penny and is sold at a very fair price. The whole concept of this game is pure genius. I would like to see a 3rd game made with double the job classes and online multiplayer! :)
Honestly this game could be so much more than it is. I really want to give it a good rating but honestly if a game that is small and shallow enough as it is gets only 2 updates in 2 months then it proves its mostly been abandoned. The game itself (at its current state) has about 5 hours at most of gameplay. Until this changes i honestly can't recommend this game.
I'm disheartened by the fact that this game will probably never have online match making. Mainly because it is super fun.
When I picked this up, online multiplayer was promised. Years later, not only has it never happened, but the EA information has been edited to remove any reference to that supposed promise. And if you look through the positive reviews, every one of them points out 'Online multiplayer is coming' which is now a lie. Don't bother wasting your money unless your PC is hooked up to a big ol tv in front of a couch, and you happen to have a couple Best Friends willing to play this over literally anything else. There are better couch co-op experiences out there, just as there are better ways to deliver on early access promises than not at all.
The ultimate Cell Game simulator, get the DBZ mod and die in the Cell Games! (because your not Gohan!)
Fun and complex local couch coop game. Hard to master and many different builds. Must have for a local party game collection.
Fun game. Lots of cool counterplay as you level up your classes. Would like to see more divergence between classes (So that less often you end up in the exact same trees) and *would really like to see Steam Workshop support*.
With Steam Workshop the replay value on this game is endless with the number of classes that would become available. Please make this a reality.
18 June 2015: i purchased this game. Since then, they released just two minor updates, so today (20 January 2016) i'm writing this review and i can't really recommend it.
If two small patches in eight months are enough for you... go for it, it's a good game and i'm not discouraging you in this sense, but personally, i don't like games managed in this way.
Edit: Hi dev. I removed the last point then, and again, i point out that my negative review is not related to the game, which is great, but just to the frequency of the updates.
Loving this simple and fun party game! The classes are all fun to play, though some could use a bit of tuning.
Hopefully in the future there is a level editor or simple single/co-op story mode vs AI
*(ex. siege a castle beat'em up and fight boss for a few unlockable classes (abilities) or unique arenas)
*25 arena matches= new arena map
*defeat boss= new ability
unlockables and simple story could keep this game very fresh in early access, cant wait to see where it goes!
A fun little brawler with a wide variety of character-build choices. Graphics are simple, but enjoyable. The game is in early-access, and the significant missing feature is online-multiplayer.
I think this is a great game and the fact that it is in early access just makes me wonder what else they are going to add. This game is fun and fast paced and is totally worth the 9.99 I paid for it however I do have one specific issues with it right now. That is a time commitment. The full experience, which is so worth it, is a time commitment that other fighting games don't have and I think people need to be prepared for that. the game plays in sets of 8 rounds. You go through and pick one of the starting classes and go up a very deep and intesne class tree. This is not a casual game that you and 10 of your friends can all sit and get the full experience of like smash bros. This is a casual game that is a lot of fun and I would totally recommend it but it is not a party game. I urge you to download the demo before buying its free and gives you in my opinion a great feel for the game. This game is so worth 9.99.
EDIT: An update was released and I was notified by the developer that it should remember my audio video settings and it does.
Great game, looking forward to future updates.
Bought this game because I was looking for a fun game to play with my friends. It doesn't disappoint. Even when there's no one else to play with, the bots are good sparring partners. I'm hoping for more fun game modes in the future as well as online multiplayer.
If you're looking for a fun game to play with friends, look no further. This game may only be early access, but it is a great game to destroy your friends at. Bottom line, 19/20 would become elementalists again.
This game is fun, not worth the $10 though, get it on sale, the local co-op is an amazing party game. 8/10 would beat up my friends again in it.
I just got this game and have ben playing a bit with my brother but i already know i need to invite 20 guys over and set this up on all five of my computers and have a tournament it just needs to happen i cant wait for multiplayer (kuz we need that) and also durable is best starter abil tbh
Sometimes you play a local multiplayer game and it falls flat almost instantly. Sometimes you play and it instantly clicks. I played a couple rounds by myself and knew this was going to rack up a LOT of hours with friends.
(My game time does not reflect time spent pre-Steam) This game follows in the footsteps of things like Towefall and Nidhogg. It's a brilliant and frantic arena fighter that borrows mechanics and aesthetics from Final Fantasy Tactics, Bomberman, and Link to the Past. Yes, that's right. It has a job-mixing system. *swoon*
Right now, it's local MP only, but it does have AI if you can't get anyone to play this with you. But, if you have anyone at ALL around you, just make them pick up a controller and play. It features that beautiful balance that makes it obvious and simple to pick up while still being deep enough to reward a lot of play.
There's the tactical level of learning how to parry and maneuever and use your abilities well. Then, there is the strategic layer of trying to adjust your job choices to what your opponents are using. Give it a shot. It's nearly impossible not to have some fun with it.
I've changed my review. It was positive and pointed out some of the potential in this game. However, the developers haven't added a key feature... multiplayer.
Skip this game, it isn't going anywhere..
