NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NEW WIN11 LOADED COMPUTER: (32GB RAM / 8GB CARD), NEITHER WITH LOGITECH MOMO WHEEL.
WORKED VERY WELL WITH WIN10, WITH LESS MEMORY (16GB / 1GB CARD).
Now that Overtake GG lists mods for this game, it's well worth revisiting
Fun! Old, but still my favorite racing sim. No lie.
With just 2 hours in rFactor, I can already tell why this game still holds up remarkably well, even almost two decades after its release in 2005. It’s a testament to how far ahead of its time it was, especially in terms of physics and driving realism. For any motorsport enthusiast looking for a no-nonsense sim racing experience, rFactor is still worth checking out. That said, it’s also a game that can feel brutal for newcomers because of its learning curve—it’s incredibly hard to master.
The first thing you notice about rFactor is its focus on delivering a pure simulation experience. This isn’t a casual racer where you jump in and start drifting around corners like you’re in an arcade. Instead, it prioritizes realistic physics and detailed handling, which makes every lap on the track a serious challenge. You can feel every mistake you make—pushing too hard into a corner, missing the braking point, or not managing throttle control will send you spinning off the track in no time. The game doesn’t hold your hand, and that’s both a blessing and a curse. For someone looking to improve their driving skills, it’s rewarding. But for a new player, it can feel overwhelming, especially without modern assists that more recent games tend to offer.
Despite its age, the modding community has played a huge role in keeping rFactor alive and relevant. There’s a wealth of user-made tracks, cars, and tweaks available, meaning the game can continue to evolve long after its original release. This level of customization is what has kept it so beloved in the sim racing community. You’re not limited to a set amount of content; you can experiment and expand the game to match your preferences, whether it’s testing new cars or racing on classic tracks from motorsport history. That modding freedom makes rFactor feel timeless in a way that few games from its era can.
The visuals, of course, do show their age—it’s a game from 2005, after all—but if you’re willing to look past that, you’ll find that rFactor still delivers where it counts. The driving experience remains rock-solid, and once you get used to the older presentation, the immersion comes from the sheer challenge of the gameplay. It’s not about flashy graphics or cinematic presentation—it’s about nailing your braking points, understanding car dynamics, and pushing for faster lap times. For a sim, that’s what really matters.
In my 2 hours, I found myself struggling to get to grips with the handling and track layouts, but at the same time, I felt a sense of respect for how well this game still holds up. It demands precision and patience, and mastering it feels like a true accomplishment. It’s easy to see why rFactor is still regarded as a cornerstone of sim racing—it paved the way for so many other sims that came after it, setting a standard for realistic physics that many games continue to chase to this day.
Overall, rFactor is not for the faint of heart. It’s a good game with a steep learning curve that rewards dedication. If you’re willing to put in the time to master its mechanics and explore the modding community, you’ll find a lot of depth and satisfaction here. Even in 2024, it still stands as a solid reminder of what made sim racing special in the first place.
9/10.

Note: a great generic alternative of simulator racing and driving games at the 2005 , still available now at 2024 , not expensive even without the steam sales , after buy and install this games , just download all the greatest mods, cars and tracks on rfactor 1 available on the internet google. Age like fine and clean old red ferrari ;D
Honorable mention : automobilista 1 ( like rfactor 1.6 ;)
For your sim racer or casual racer information , i can play all this rfactor 1 and automobilista 1 on linux mint via steam proton experimental ;)
even though the game is almost 20 years old, there may be more options, cars and racetracks than in some modern racing games. great game
It gives me something else to play besides roblox and games on my phone and I love how easy it is to get mods for this game 10/10
good game
rFactor is a solid sim and it offers a good modding scene but it falls short in base content. The base content is not "bad" its just lacking. The credit system is a cool idea but executed not so well but it can still be fun if you are looking for progression. This game is about modding not licensed cars and track, the modding is what makes this game a worthy sim even now. 6/10 base content, 9/10 with mods
