To become death in Venetica is a calling, fulfilled by a man of flesh and blood – equipped with special supernatural skills in order to be able to carry out the duties of the office. A new death is selected regularly by “Corpus”, a secret council. This time however Corpus really makes a wrong decision: The “new” death, Victor, turns out to be a crazed necromancer who manages to turn himself into an overpowering undead with seedy tricks and dark rituals and thus attains almost unlimited power in addition to immortality. As it is strictly forbidden for the chosen death to devote himself to necromancy, the committee revokes Victor’s nomination immediately and declares a new death in his stead without delay.
The power-hungry Victor however does not want to relinquish his position again. He continues to practice the dark arts in order to gather numerous dark and dangerous creatures and tainted souls from the underworld around him. He thus succeeds in eliminating the newly designated death and takes over his power for his own purposes. The effects on the world’s balance are calamitous and – should Victor be able to keep himself in power – its dark consequences are irreversible. Only a person who has the same mighty powers as Victor can prevent his prevailing and vent him his deserved punishment.
Scarlett, the daughter of the real death does not know anything about her ancestry and the hidden talents which slumber within her. She is immersed suddenly in this story due to the brutal attack on her home village and the tragic loss of Benedict, the love of her life. It is a story which she now begins to write herself, a story during the course of which she unleashes her capabilities, a story in which she tries to save Benedict from the world of the dead and a story in which she must protect the world of the living from the dark threat posed by Victor and his henchmen.

Venetica - Gold Edition is definitely showing its age. The combat is clunky, the graphics are super dated, and there are some bugs that can be frustrating. That said, there’s something kind of charming about it. The setting, with its fantasy take on Renaissance Venice, is unique, and the story has an interesting premise.
If you played it back in the day, it’s worth revisiting for the nostalgia alone. But if you’re new to it and used to modern RPGs, you might find it pretty rough around the edges.
Good game, but arsenal district has nightmarish level design that makes you miss noclip.
Ive got my moneys worth of fun out of this game. sadly i had to quit in the Arsenal district where traversing the map gets very difficult. i wish i had the patience for it because it is a fun game. i guess i made it about half way through the game before needing to quit :(

A really fun classic xbox game, its got that old-game clunkiness to it but its otherwise really fun and interesting.
I remember hating this game very quickly, because it was clunky and difficult to use the controls.
strange little game.. 90s' graphics with pretty poor combat.. a really poor story and plot devices.. and the 'puzzles' are atrocious! collapsing a 'platform' on top of you, with a sledgehammer is beyond stupid! sure you can 'rez yourself'.. but its just a stupid 'solution'.. just give the girl a bow or knives you can throw.. but no.. they want to provide a completely stupid 'alternative'.. cannot recommend stupid
unplayable. i dont mind dated visual, but its just unbreable when its keep crashing in midd battle. shame though, its have all the charms that make old game appealing.
Not bad. A medevil hack and slash necromancer game with keyboard controls. Kinda reminds me of World of Warcraft a bit. The game is outdated but has many mechanics. Im surpirsed by how complicated it can get. The writing is good. Im not sure If ill keep playing as this game type is not for me. I got it on sale and end up being a lot better than I expected. I stopped after reaching the mines.
This game is incredibly frustrating. The controls are really bad, making even simple tasks difficult. When you first face an undead enemy, it's almost impossible to kill it because you have to wait until the creature is ready to be attacked. If you miss that window, you're stuck waiting again. The whole process becomes a tedious cycle of rolling, waiting, rolling, waiting, and then attacking. More often than not, you'll miss your attack because of the bad controls, which makes it even more frustrating.
The game also has timed events that you can't complete properly due to the poor controls. On top of that, the game crashes often, usually by freezing and not responding to any controls. These crashes are particularly annoying because they often happen after you've made significant progress.
The Quick Save feature doesn't always work, so you have to constantly double-check that your game is saved. The technical issues are everywhere, and it seems like they will never be fixed. From what I've read, these problems have been there since the original version and have never been addressed.
People say the GoG version is better, but I don't think it's worth spending money to find out. Overall, this game has been a frustrating experience with too many technical problems to enjoy it.

Venetica - Review.
First let me start off by saying that older games like this hold a special place in my heart, that said I'll try my best to give an impartial Review.
The Story,
The Story is dated but still good, you'll see a lot of the twists before they hit you with them but all in all its still a thoroughly entertaining Story over all.
The Graphics,
Graphically its not amazing but its not the worst either and if you don't need Next Gen 200GB AAA Games this Games Graphics will be enough for you to enjoy it.
The World,
The World is again dated but it is still very fun and interesting and the setting is also very fun.
The Characters,
The Characters are varied and interesting although some Models are not very good and some even made me laugh.
The Soundtrack,
The Soundtrack is okay for a Game made in 2009.
Gameplay,
Gameplay is alright for its age and after you get the hang of it its very enjoyable.
Some Things I Loved about Venetica,
The Lockpicking is fun and different but I'll not spoil it for you.
The Lantern is fun, I just love refilling Lantern Oil in any Game I play that has one.
Scarletts Armor in the Games Main Menu changes depending on whatever Armor she has Equipped in your Game which is very fun.
Some things I Hated about Venetica,
There is a form of Fast Travel but its still tedious to move around the World and there is a lot of backtracking.
Quests are not very easy to follow and while there is a Map Marker System it doesn't help a lot.
There is no Mini Map in Dungeons or Indoors.
Bugs/Glitches,
Once when going into Venice from the Bridge the World went black and I couldn't see anyone or anything, Note entering a building fixed this.
Once when exiting a Workers Home in the Arsenal District the World went black and I couldn't see anything or anyone, Note entering a building fixed this.
Eight Times the Skillbar disappeared when entering or exiting a Building, Zone, Dungeon, Note after exiting the Game and Restarting it worked again.
Five Times when speaking with Leon at the Net of the Mask the Game exited me back to the Steam Home Page, Note I did not find a fix to this and I simply didn't speak to him after the Fifth attempt.
In Closing Venetica is a Beautiful Game with an Interesting Story and a Great Main Character with fair Gameplay so please give Venetica a try you'll probably like it, Thank You for Reading:)
