The starting "easy" mode is not easy at all. Its random every time and you need to get lucky to get a high score. I won't be playing it any more. Don't pay more than 1 dollar.
A hard game :) The number of bad guys on screen at once is just STUPID good! Lots of bullets/bad guys to dodge and the graphics are slick. The ONLY issue I have is that the power up orbs you get during the level are green....so too are a large number of the bad guys. For old eyes and a medicated old brain like mine, it makes em very easy to miss. They do not stay on screen for long at all...which is a good thing, it creates a sense of urgency.
This is the most unfair shooter i have ever played, mess up what powers you choose or get bad rng for the choices and you will be so underpowered you do no damage and you get overwhelmed and this can be noticed really early in the game.
Even if you manage to get a build going the powers you choose still need you to pick up the little orbs to power them up which brings me to the next thing i have a problem with, these orbs come from killing enemies and when they die they usually blow up at the top of the screen so you have to put yourself in more danger or out of position to collect them and they disappear really fast and by wave 6 or so the screen is filled with enemies and bullets you cannot move at times but miss these and you will fall behind in the power creep,it is well designed in what they did with the balance but it is really hard to keep up.
Some of the enemies are really obnoxious like the purple laser spammy enemies they just wall you in or the bosses that rely on the over abundance of adds to make them more difficult than they should be,i love these types of games i own a lot of them on steam but this is too much it relies on rng to much and for this reason i cannot recommend this game unless you like to be frustrated.
It is a shame really it looks pretty good graphics wise the sound is ok and there are a lot of ships and powers to try out but you will probably never get that far to appreciate them.
If it is on sale give it a go but i would give this one a miss there are far better games out there that do the same thing but are a lot more fair in how they work.
The game is good.
Would be nice if it had a 'Kiddie' mode where the ships had more armour or something.
My ten year old loves this game and we play together, but they always die and then I end up having to choose to play solo and bring them back to life or restart.
The game is good regardless.
I am not sure how to describe this game because it just goes from cool and fun to just crazy, engaging and full on carnage.
I really didn't expect this game would bring me this amount of challenge and entertainment.
Each time I play it it's a bit different, with the random upgrades, different bosses and such.
Only I wish it had a small tutorial at the start, to know which controls to use, and made the getting new ships a bit more clear.
But what it lacks in information, it does have in shooting to the extreme.
This is a very addictive game but there are major drawbacks that made me quit: your weapons REALLY suck, the enemies' are way too deadly, the power-up system is all random and lacking in all sorts of ways and the random generation isn't much fun when it means you will too easily die after a few waves, no matter how trained and prepared you are. Also, while it cruelly lacks variety, I've rarely encountered any boss in my nearly 12 hours of play. When I did, I was on a one-in-a-hundred good run. Fret not though, pretty much any second or third wave will feel like a boss battle anyway. There's a fine line between challenge and frustration and Roche Fusion isn't that good at remaining on the good side of it.
Don't be fooled. Roche Fusion is a different shoot-em-up than you're used to. The game is balanced in a way that doesn't make sense until you put an hour into it. You feel very weak, powerups are VERY challenging to acquire (they disappear after just a couple seconds), and you have murderously-low health. However, you regenerate health quickly, and blitzing through a small bit of enemy fire is accepted as a feature. You have to use what the game gives you and through some twisted alternate reality, the rules of the game all make sense somehow. You have to adapt to its design, or you'll get hammered.
Upgrades are provided on a rogue-lite model, so if that's your thing Roche Fusion will deliver.
I'm done playing the game, but I appreciate buying and experiencing it. It's very difficult and all the controls work great.
Roche Fusion is a blast! It is minimalist and simple, bit it knows what it want to do and it does it really well. Explosion are everywhere and score go high really fast. Add loads of neon colors and you have a high-octave blood pumping experience.
Thanks to the variety of ships and upgrades there is as lot of replay value. Also I like that the varied ennemies are color-codes so you know what to expect of them in a glance. Though, the upgrades offered at the end of waves are randomised, so it might happen that the game offers you only shitty ones, which can ruin your run.
While not perfect, Roche Fusion has enough to offer to get you glued to your screen for hours. Try to get a friend to play co-op with too for extra amazingness!
I expected a throwaway indie shmup but ended up with a deep leaderboard-chaser with surprisingly high production values.
1 hour in, and I told myself: -Holy shit!!! this is awesome!!- -Maybe I should write a nice review for it... Nah, is too soon, I bet 6 hours in it will become repetitive and basically an "ok" game-
Boy I was so wrong! Almost 30 hours in and I can't stop playing, game's so addictive I'm not even sure that's a positive feat. since is costing me hours of work.
Some of the reason why this game keeps you playing:
+ Levels are never the same since they are procedurally generated.
+ Variety of ships to unlock and play, which can be upgraded as you advance through your gaming session
+ Learning to get better at the game is so greatly balanced, intuitive enough to get you hooked enough, while offering you a gaming challenge at the same time
+ There are both mini-bosses and Epic bosses, both fun to play against
+ Both the music and the visuals are amazing. Terrific job from both departments
The game is great to play either by yourself, or with a friend/sibling, specially since it forces you to play in a team by sharing the avialiable lives
Some negatives:
- I wish the devs would also add the option to pay for the music, I would love to have it on my playlist!
- This is not really a negative, more an opinion, but i can't help to think this game would be awesome to play online with some friends!
Overall, this is game is tons (and hours) of fun in a very "simple" (for lack of a better word) package. And is not even $15!
And like the store page itself says... EXPLOSIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes Please,
Proceduraly generated waves, done right, that's is waves has cohesion and meaning.
Interesting upgrades with 3 different choices after each waves.
New ships, weapons and mode to unlock
Despite looking simple at start it keeps getting better, and altohough gfx are simple playability is very good. Recommended! The more I play it the more I like it
Play Roche Fusion: it's very addictive.
Between two enemy waves, you will upgrade your ship either with passive upgrades (offensive or defensive ones), and/or gather new special weapons to be activated "on demand" (with a cooldown time). You'll also collect lots of bonus orbs, and every of these will increase your fire rate, your DPS,... Any of this is procedural but this is not totally random and it's a total pleasure to find your way through lots of waves, mid-bosses or even epic bosses.
There are many special ships for very different ways of playing and experimenting the game. My favorite one is the Trinity which fires less bullets but explosive ones and thus can trigger combo easily.
Multiplier scoring system is also very nice for shmup adepts, or for anyone who wants to try scoring.
Arcade stick perfectly recognized and works like a charm (+Several buttons can be mapped to the same function).
Try it!
after having been in the beta and seeing how much they expanded from that i have to say i am very glad i got this game, its a great time killer for when you are not sure what to do because you have too many games to play
I absolutely love this game!
It has a relatively random enemy generator and bosses when you least expect them.
Very addicting
Worth the €12
So far this is my favorite shmup game. Every single ship at start has unique traits, so in order to go as far as possible you need to take those weaknesses into consideration when taking upgrades.
Visuals are nice and I'm not observing any lags even with enormous amount of ships you may be fighting after defeating second super boss. When it comes to super bosses, their attacks will make you feel like playing your usual bullet hell.
Music is great and it doesn't feel repeating for me at least.
Easy difficulty is easy, normal is... well... you would need to check that yourself, but I think the only difference is that you take twice or thrice the damage compared to Easy. Personally I've managed to get +600 million score on Easy, but on Normal I've died before getting 1 million...
Surprisingly enough my favorite ship is Lily, the only one which has no armor regeneration at start.
Kinda bad that the developers are not working on this project anymore, because there is at least one known bug here that can ruin your top score run.
4/5 overall. The game has some wonderful elements of gameplay. We played it for lots of hours trying to unlock every ship. Once every ship was unlocked...nothing left to do. I was excited to get like 7th in the world on a 2 player game! I played almost entirely 2 player, with my kids, so it aht regard it was fun for us. Once you master dodging the heck out of things it gets more enjoyable. So on the one hand, enjoyable and difficult and good for 2 player Co-op. Highlight of the game is the Epic Bosses which are extemely well done graphically and mechanically. My hat is off to the developers in that regard.
The rest of this review is the things I didn't like:
The game relies heavily on the three (or 4) randomly generated upgrades between levels. Some games you hit all the right stuff each board and dominate, other games you get all the wrong stuff and die off in the fourth level-quickly. In this way, the later boards seemed more about luck, than skill.
Some upgrades are a must have (which is frustrating) in order to survive the later levels. Battering Ram, for example, you need because it allows you several seconds of invincibility and cool down is like 6 seconds. Without it, you just die fast.
Some of the ships are useless unless they get their ship-unique upgrades (homing), which makes it frustrating if they don't show up in the random cycle. Wish they would make them default, or just offer them every level as an option.
The Digit ship actually has an upgrade that lowers the ships effectiveness (auto-aiming), which makes you wonder if they completely play tested them.
The hardest ship to get (and last one we unlocked) is a rail-gun shooting mistake that has nothing going for it. We tried, we had other player carry it to later boards to make sure we got all the upgrades and it simply sucked in so many ways, weak defense, weak offense, i don't know what they were after on this.
Would like the Ultimate shots to come more often, maybe change the mechanic that drives them (like using combos to earn your ultimate meter instead of the orange orbs).
But, for all my complaining, we did get 34 hours of fun time with me and the boys as we struggled through to unlock the ships.
Shoot em up that gets faster and faster pace. Kinda hard describing why this is good, but I guess when it comes down to it we all know that many shoot em ups are very similar, but some are just better than others. Some games you put 20min into a run, finally die, and you're just done playing for a bit. This is one of those games where as soon as you die, you're ready for another go. Solid timewaster, very easy to get sucked in.
Great shmup with tons of upgrades and weapon combinations. If you are looking alongside the arcade traditionpath (r type, gradius, raiden, ikaruga etc.) you have to try this game out.
Music could be less generic.
Hectic shmup, featuring procedurally generated levels, rechargable shields, lots of weapons and upgrades and a wide assortment of enemies. Great replayability value. This is basically Tyrian for the new generation. Recommended!
I'm fairly new to the shmup genre. I used to play them back in the arcade days (80s and 90s) but just recently I've started checking a few out on PC. This one looked like a lot of fun based on the procedurally generated stuff and the ship upgrades.
And it is. It moves a little too fast and it gets really hard really fast, even on easy, but I still like it. The weapons are interesting, the graphics are nice, it's not too busy that you can't tell what's going on, and the upgrade and unlock system is really cool.
[Edit] The game was crashy after 20-30 minutes but it may be that I'm using a sound card. The developer provided a fix that replaces the OpenAL DLL file and that seems to have solved the issue. I was real impressed at the quick response!
Out of the recent shmups I've picked up and started playing, so far this is the best of the bunch. The music reminds me a little of Daft Punk and it has a really slick presentation. Thumbs up!
[Edit]
Still really enjoying this game. It's fun to pick up and play and shoot a few things. The upgrade system and randomization is a blast, as well as unlocking new ships. It still gets hard pretty quick even on Easy, but it's just so smooth and fun!
