This is a pretty creative retro pixel game. You'll need to cooperate well with the character aiming and the use of weapons to pass layer after layer. Among them, I love the functions of activating item and aiming at the target. The game also adds player skins, different opening skills and other gameplays, all of which enrich the playability of the game. Random maps are also a good highlight point. In the game, you can also stealth in advance or upgrade weapons to defeat the enemy by surprise. Overall Vintage Year is a fast-paced shooting game. If you like strategic combat games, come and buy it!
Small suggestion:
The light that can be seen when you enter the game have been shaking. I think it would be better if you didn't move, otherwise it would be a little dazzling.

I love top-down rogue-like shooters, they are some of my favorite games. Vintage year deviates from the pack of standard top-down rogue-like shooters by forcing the player not to run and gun the whole time. In order to be successful, you must be strategic about when you engage with enemies and how you use your resources. This provides a different kind of complexity of game-play than what many top-down rogue-like shooters offer.

The atmosphere of this game is amazing. The creepy sounds and music puts the player on edge as they make their way through dimly lit, cult-infested levels. The world of this game is very intriguing and I feel like there is something sinister happening in the background as I play.

Overall this game is solid. At the price, this game is very easy to recommend. It might not be the kind of game you want to pick up every day, but when you really let yourself get immersed with the atmosphere, this game is truly special.

The game is very simple and easy to learn, and the feedback on damage is also very good. But it seems that the gameplay is a little bit too simple, and after playing for a long time, it feels like its just repeat and repeat. But it's still very enjoyable and enjoyable to play. The enemy's shooting trajectory and judgment feel a bit unclear or strange, and sometimes they feel like they can't hit me but inexplicably die

Quiet a good game. I like the pixel art style and the game style. However, it would be better if the hit reflection can be more rough like add more blood and knock back.

This game is really cool! It feels like an actual challenge and the environment with a lot of great variety in level generation, playable characters, and enemy variants! I actually sent this to one of my friends who loves gauntlet style games such as this. Very creative and really well done!!

Very nice job with game design and lighting. Controls are intuitive and has a lot of really neat game mechanics such as starting as a shadow in each level. Excellent quality for price.

The art style was very appealing. the use of the mouse to look around felt a little slow, but overall clean. There are multiple times where you must remove your hand from the mouse to the keyboard. This feels very clunky. I think the addition of multiple characters with unique stats is great and adds a lot of replay-ability. The inclusion of a contest mode is great as well.
Starting each level invisible is a great idea. The ability to scout the level and find loot before fighting is helpful, especially just starting out. The in game upgrade system looks really good, and is very easy to understand. There is screen shake with every shot you fire which makes it very hard to keep track of what is going on. There is a large variety of unique weapons to acquire that makes each run different. One thing to note though: there is definitely a skill ceiling. This game is hard. I run into an occasional bug where enemies' bullets will pass through walls and hit me, but it isn't very often. The music and the ambiance is very well done. its dark, creepy, and it keeps you focused.

Overall there is a lot of charm and creativity with the game. I'm excited to see how it continues to evolve.

The game is pretty cool. At first, I wasn't sure about it, as I was dying a lot, but then I found the hidden mini boss and got a good score, and there seems to be more to the game than I originally thought. Well done!

As a fan of many roguelikes, this game is very well-rounded and checks all the boxes: a clean art style, thematic sound track, diverse weaponry, and plenty of replayability. I enjoy the unique ability to be "cloaked" at the start of each level, allowing the player to get their bearings and determine where best to begin the fight. Some of the default controls are a little awkwardly configured in my opinion, but I was able to easily grasp the different imputs and jump right into the bulk of the game. All around, Vintage Year is a very clean and complete indie roguelike dungeon crawler that is both easy to pick up and ensures hours of light fun.

Overall I like the game. Once I got the hang of it, I really started having fun! I especially love the weapons mechanics and the art.

However, it was really confusing at the start. I would’ve loved more explanation at the beginning. I felt that I was thrown into it with no knowledge or even any idea of what was happening, gameplay wise. Maybe having something separate from the tutorial but still peaceful? Like a sample first level just to explore. Anything as a step before immediately starting with enemies and traps.

I’m also still confused about the darkness starting every level. It is extremely confusing to a beginner. I’m totally blind for a few seconds, and I frantically use all my torches trying to see, which makes the level almost impossible going forward. Is it supposed to be like that? For how long? Can I stop it? I think an explanation of what and why is crucial here.

The tutorial was fairly helpful, but it was really hard to read because the text was so small. Can I change the size of the text and hp bar? If so, how? I couldn’t find a “controls” setting.

So this game has so much potential. It does so many right things but at the same time has a lot of stuff missing. My biggest let down with the game is the feeling. When I shoot the gun I don't feel a gun I just feel as if I threw a rock. the sound design could be better. The story mode levels are super short so even if you get a dynamite or something cool like that you don't need to use them. I think this game would be better if it had other modes other then a story. This game really doesn't need a story mode in my opinion but need more arcade style modes where you can go wild and try to stack scores or have harder enemies show up rather then enemies with higher health. I am sure the game gets better at some point but I couldn't feel like playing more as the start parts are not the best.
The parts that are positive are I loved the art style of the game and how you have abilities that you can choose at the start. Some of the weapons had cool mechanics (even if they had bad feelings), the pixel art is also amazing.

I just wish hey didn't made it a story mode thing but stayed more to a classic rogue like or arcade game but other then that you should definitely check the game, It has a lot of potential and I will be watching for future updates.

There's better out there. Check out enter the gungeon. This game has potential but first and foremost the lack of rebinding keys will always automatically generate negative thoughts to the game. There isnt a whole lot of explination to the content this game has to offer. I keep checking back to see if this game has been updated to make it more appealing but to this date, it still sits in the deep recesses of my backlog. Shame.

Binding Of Isaac x Wine Enthusiasm = Great Game. A little minimalistic, but it just add to the charm. Can't wait for more updates! The NPC ally update was an excellent addition to an already excellent game. Tight controls, varied weapon types and characters and plenty to unlock.

Like a darker, easier, Nuclear Throne with less general content. Over all it is an enjoyable game if you can avoid getting stuck in walls. STUPID WALLS!

Rating = 4/5

I find this game highly enjoyable. This rogue-like game has a great standard of shooting and mechanics, combined with a classic roge-like art-style. Personally, I find the bosses a little hard - but maybe I'm just a noob. I'd reccommend this game.

Stylish and uncompromising, but rough in ways that wouldn't be so forgivable at a higher price point.

Vintage Year is a low-key roguelike overhead shooter, and here roguelike doesn't simply mean "permadeath". Vintage Year embraces the old-school roguelike style of giving the player very little information and forcing them to figure it out. It mostly works, with the gameplay being simple enough that you can learn just by fooling around, and the fast-paced live-die-repeat gameplay helps this.

You never feel like you lose much progress by making a blind choice, but sometimes the very minimal UI can be frustrating if you already know how things work, you just can't remember which item is which. Some players will find the experimentation-driven learning very rewarding, but some may find it simply frustrating.

The gameplay is rather polished, but one major area shows weakness: enemy pathfinding. Levels are randomly generated and mazelike, and the enemies have an extremely hard time navigating if there is a hard wall between them and you. And this isn't something that comes up every once in a while; enemies literally do not know how to move around a wall to line up a shot. In some ways this works to the game's benefit; if the AI could navigate better then the already hard game would be even harder, but to see the AI fail so regularly is amateurish.

Vintage Year is rather difficult, since you have very limited health and it is only replenished by (very rarely) randomly found health pick-ups. Using all the tools the game provides you is vital, as is caution. Stumbling into a room without a very good idea of what's all in it can be deadly. While unforgiving, the difficulty feels fair, though one sometimes wishes for some kind of non-random healing.

The biggest failing is in the UI. It seems designed for a controller, but the gameplay requires precision I wouldn't trust to a controller. Frankly, if you're making a PC game, main menus that can't be navigated purely through the mouse are an unforgivable sin. And furthermore, the game is inconsistent: sometimes WASD can be used to navigate menus, sometimes the arrow keys need to be used. Sometimes things are selected with the mouse, sometimes with E, and sometimes, bafflingly, with the enter key.

Finally, the progression system is very minimal, only giving unlockable characters and cosmetic items for characters. This isn't a terrible flaw, but its implentation feels more like an ingame-currency DLC store than a true progression system, in that the things you unlock may not help you get further in the game at all, and are simply alternate options to enhance replayability.

Overall, the biggest factor in my recommendation is the price. At 10 dollars I would not recommend this game, when you could get Hotline Miami for the same. But at $5.49 it's worth a look if you like roguelikes or overhead shooters. I don't know how much more I'll really play this thing, but I've definitely gotten $5.49 worth of fun out of it.

Vintage Year is a twin stick shooting dungeon crawler with roguelike elements. The basic premise of the game is that you've been hired by a gentleman who calls himself The Connoisseur who tasks you with defending his family's precious wine from a vicious gang called the "Skull Faction". As you venture into his wine cellar, however, it's clear that there's other supernatural forces at play.

The game is often compared to other top down shooters like Nuclear Throne. Although both games share the same basic elements, they are quite different. Vlambeer's Throne has a faster, more arcade-like feel to its gameplay, while Vintage Year relies on stealthy tactics and careful planning. At the beginning of every level, you're given an opportunity to scout out the layout of the room. This gives the player a chance to strategize the best way to tackle all of the enemies on the floor; you must eliminate all of the Skull Faction before continuing. Levels are also shrouded in darkness, making it difficult to peer ahead to keep track of enemy movements. To counter this, you're given a limited amount of torches to place, adding more of a strategical aspect to the gameplay.

For its $5 price, Vintage Year offers a good amount of replay value. There's up to 16 different playable characters that you can unlock, each with their own unique perks. After every two completed levels, players have the chance to gain more perks, helping them continue through ever-increasingly difficult dungeons. Enemies, Mini-Bosses, and Bosses get progressively harder to overcome, making this game a suitable challenge for fans of roguelites and action games. There's a lot of the game that the dev has kept secret, leaving the player to discover the strange inner workings by themselves. Additionally, players can also unlock an alternate game mode, cosmetic hats (!!!), and mod their own characters into the game.

Still, the game isn't perfect. The controls aren't remappable, and at times, movement doesn't feel as smooth as it should. Some parts are a little buggy, such as sometimes getting stuck inside walls and strange spike trap hitboxes. Graphically, the pixel sprites lack the creativity and charm that Nuclear Throne manages to capture, but the developer, Nooner Bear, makes up for it with a chilling atmosphere that keeps the player on their toes. He's still adding bugfixes and patches to the game, so it can only get better from here.

Vintage Year is a solid game that delivers a lot in a small package. It offers a good amount of replayability through procedurally generated levels, challenging gameplay, and many player unlocks. It definitely shines most as a quick game to take breaks with since you can go on quick runs to try and beat your high scores. This game is a great stepping stone into shooter roguelites and is definitely worth the asking price. You should definitely consider picking this up, considering the $2.99 vs. $12.99 Nuclear Throne asks for. However, both games have their own merits. Even if you own Vlambeer's popular product, this is a good investment for a different experience. If you like games that are easy to pick up and play but are difficult to beat, this indie gem is a good addition to your gaming collection.

TL;DR: For fans of Nuclear Throne, Teleglitch, Cavern Kings, and other shooter roguelikes.

In a nutshell - Nuclear Throne's gameplay (at a slightly slower pace) + Cthulhu Mythosesque atmosphere + persistant unlocks = a light romp best enjoyed in short bursts.

Standard top-down shooter with an eery atmosphere, intensified by your need to put down candles in order to see your foes (which, by the way, you have a limited number of). You start off with four characters (my favorite giving a heavily increased rate of fire) and unlock the rest, either by completing hidden objectives or buying them at the shop. Additionally, you can unlock starting spells, which operate as a single and constant perk for the entire run.

Weapons wise, you're given a variety ranging from your standard pew-pew pistol to the more creative volcano cannon to get the job done. If you happen to pulp something particularly hard, character-specific flavor text will pop over their corpse (if you're playing as the Bear, it just goes "rawr" when someone is turned inside out).

I've got minimal playtime, yes, but I'm sure the game will keep me occupied for fifteen minute intervals for quite some time. It does a very good job of dangling the carrot of progression over your head to keep you moving along, while not forcing significant investments of time in one go. A very good example of a touch-and-go roguelite shooter.
