Perfect wholesome Christmas game.
Gioco bellissimo e molto rilassante, le atmosfere e le musiche ti fanno ritornare bambino e ti vanno venire voglia di neve. Gioco straconsigliato e secondo me costa anche poco. Agli amanti delle colonne sonore consiglio di scaricarsi il DLC marvin's mittens official soundtrack.

Wonderful game during christmas season! Just relax, let the "elf magic" happen, visit your friendly neighbourhood "cocoa" dealer for hot stuff and stories, inhale every single "special snowflake" and let Marvin fly as high as into the clouds... at least until you hear mommy scream at you :D
Disclaimer: No children were harmed during my playthrough, and no elves at least BY ME. Too much exposure to snowflakes can make you addictive and may have side effects including dizziness, aloofness and shining rainbow~y.

It takes A LOT to make me finish a platformer, but this one was just too adorable. I bought it because it was so old that it cost next to nothing on a sale. If you don't suck as much at platforming as I do, this game is definitely worth more than its current full price.
In the beginning, while gameplay wasn't too much of an obstacle for me, I really enjoyed it. Letting little Marvin explore snowy landscapes, draw wild animals and have a good time like only a young child can, then be called home by mom and dream about his adventures before hurrying out again through new shortcuts the next day. It's up there with the newer Alba: A Wildlife Adventure in capturing happy little childhood adventures.
The wintery visuals are nice and atmospheric, the story is wholesome, and the soundtrack is fantastic. The only thing I would have liked to see added is an option to dig that poor little skier out of the snow instead of leaving them stuck with their legs thrashing around in the air.
The difficulty does ramp up though, with longer series of jumps without any kind of checkpoint or save, and later even slippery ice surfaces. No problem for players that aren't terribly clumsy I'm sure, but I found it very frustrating in some places and other reviewers pointed out their younger children needed help.
If it weren't for the two most annoying platforming sections where I missed a jump, fell all the way down and had to repeat over and over AND OVER etc. I wouldn't hesitate to add this game to my favourites. I even went around to collect the magic snowflakes and explore hidden areas that I'd overlooked after finishing the main story, which was a bit more fun again now that I'd learnt to get through the difficult parts reasonably well. My playtime includes one full playthrough with a ridiculous amount of failed jumps, another round for all the snowflakes, 10/11 animal sketches and a bit of idling.
If you're looking for a wholesome wintery adventure and don't mind the platforming, this is a real treat.

Absolute lovely!
The perfect game for a few cold winter days of free time
when you want something wholesome to quickly play through
and feel great after. 5 hours of cuteness worth every cent.
Music 10/10
Gameplay 9/10
(Movement a bit clunky but ok, the sledge mechanic and the snowflake-jump mechanic is awesome)
Graphics 9/10
(sweet drawings, hand made, sometimes
little edges on textures, but thats nothing)
I think I play this every season now, gets you in the right mood.
This game is one of the ones I turn to when I just need to relax. Nothing about it is super challenging, the art/music are lovely, and exploring just feels good. Even after beating it a few times, I still find myself returning now and again just to re-experience the good feelings.
Marvin's Mittens is a casual platformers. You play as Marvin, a young boy who has one of his mittens stolen and embarks on a quest to find it, and also a bunch of mittens that were stolen from elves. The elves give Marvin a magical jumping ability that gets stronger with every snowflake he collects. Marvin goes from level to level collecting snowflakes to jump higher, so he can collect more snowflakes. Also there's a bunch of animals he can sketch. There are also some secret areas and shorcuts to find.
There are no enemies, and there's no way for Marvin to die. At worst, a bad jump might send Marvin back to a slightly earlier part of the level. Eventually night falls and your mother calls you back home, and using the shortcuts is key to getting to the later levels with enough time to explore. Getting called home to bed is the closest thing this game has to losing a life.
Although it might not seem like much of a game from the description, this game is charming. Everything is beautifully animated, all of the levels are distinct, and Marvin's spinning jump mechanic is awesome. The game lacks some key elements of the 2D platforming genre, namely enemies, but the stuff it does have, the platforming, exploration, and item collecting, it does really well.
As expected, the game does lean a bit on the easy side, and it is fairly short, completing it at 100% will probably take most people a few hours. Still it's a unique, fun, and well polished experience while it lasts, and for the price it's definitely worth it.
An absolutely delightful game to play for December. There's no fail state and so its a really chilled and enjoyable game. My wife insists we play it every Christmas. Pretty short, but worth it in my view.
+ Fantastic soundtrack
+ World full of secret delights
+ Captures a childlike sense of curiosity and simple joy
+ Flying never gets old
- Getting all the snowflakes in the end stages can be finicky and frustrating, though it isn't necessary for completion
Would you laugh if I compared a tiny indie game with a scribbly, handpainted artstyle to Journey?
Like Journey, Marvin's Mittens is a game about the joy of jumping, flying, and simply soaking in the sights as you explore. Unlike Journey, however, there's never the threat of having your powers of flight taken away.
Each snowflake you find lets you jump just incrementally higher, which in turn unlocks new areas for you to find even more snowflakes. It's like a Metroidvania with only one mechanic, and it's endlessly addictive.
What will really draw you in, though, is how the world slowly unfurls to be bigger than you imagined, full of endless surprises that I can't share here without spoiling the fun. This is a world where abandoned train tracks become giant mechanical behemoths for scrambling and climbing, where holes to the underground open to vast chambers lit with torches and snow forts are castles with windows and turrets. It portrays childhood not as it is, but how it's remembered, if everything you imagined came true.
TL;DR: Marvin's Mittens draws you along from one delight to the next, not like a cynical developer railroading you from setpiece to setpiece, but like an earnest child that wants to show you the cool rock they found in the woods. Recommended.
This is by far one of the sweetest platformers I have played, I dare say its gameplay is akin to metroidvanias where the point is to gain power ups so that you can get further in the game. It is 100% worth 6 bucks to play.
A very sweet game.
You play as Marvin, a small bundled up child exploring the snowy woods and caves behind your house. You gain the ability to fly, and the more glowing snowflakes you collect, the higher you fly. The entire game is you jumping and sledding around the wilderness collecting snowflakes, and if you're careful enough, sketching pictures of the animals that live in the woods. The music is great, and there's nothing to worry about - Marvin cannot take damage (he will pant a little if you press the run button for too long, or grunt if you fall from a distance, but those are just sound effects), there are friendly little elves everywhere, and the animals just run away if you startle them. If you can't reach a snowflake, don't worry, you can come back and collect it later when you are better at flying. Marvin's mom calls you home and tucks you into bed (and saves the game) when the sky gets dark, and lets you go out to play again in the morning.
Very soothing to play. Though I am not great at platforming, I enjoyed it a lot.
This is a feel-good game if there ever was one. The presentation was absolutely lovely and the music is just superb. Finished the game rather quickly but I'll probably go back and grab all the snowflakes just because the levels are so pretty. That said...
My biggest con is the lack of a counter for said snowflakes. Would be nice to know how many I have left to collect. There's a book that shows what sketches you've drawn, so why not the latter feature? Another minor gripe is the lack of an options menu. The game always starts up windowed. Yes I know F11 will full screen, but I have to turn off the hot key function on my laptop to do this... 👎🏻 Would be better to do this in an options menu and then save that preference.
Still, easily ecommended for those looking for a simple, relaxing game.👍
A really sweet and charming platforming game that hits the nostalgic thing so well - LOVE the fact you get shouted to come in and, therefore, want to make the most of every day, either snapping animals or just trying to get that one extra snowflake.
I mean if controlling a little child character dressed for winter , mucking about in the snow doesn't do something for you, then you are probably too dead to be playing games anyway.
ONLY negative, shame there are no achievements or trading cards. No reason to 100% the game.
2 words spring to mind - unbridled joy. This game is a delightful experience - more something you play with as opposed to just play through. Marvin makes a great embodiment of my inner child and his joy is my joy; his angst at being called home to bed - aaaaaw..... is mine as well. It is so refreshing to explore his world with him and fly as he flies. Each small triumph is a huge victory. The art style is brilliant. Music so suited. Voices just bang-on. Game controls well once you get into it.
What are you waiting for? Let's play!!!
HIGHLY recommend.
Marvin's Mittens is a magical adventure into the mind of a child at play during winter. You guide Marvin through a winter wonderland, no danger involved. Marvin's Mittens was able to invoke an intense feeling of childlike wonder for me, and I get hit with feelings any time I hear the soundtrack. It is a marvelous game and I cannot recommend it enough.
That was a real, sincere, delight to play this game. Its principle is rather simple, you explore beautiful snowy landscapes and collect snowflakes to jump higher and higher, so that you could access to an increasing number of places (and eventually fly to the moon... almost). I initially chose Marvin's Mittens to introduce video games to my 4 and 5-year-old kids, but I haven't slept this night, because I could not resolve myself to leave Marvin and his enchanted world.
If you are sick of playing 5-million dollars video games with zombies, murders, betrayal, just BUY IT!
This game is in many ways a fun, exploration platformer for kids. But I'm pushing 30 and have no kids, and I loved it. The art, music and general ambience make for a delightful couple of hours taking Marvin through the countryside and pushing further and further (with some helpful shortcuts!) before your mom calls you in for the night. I thought the mechanism of playing in 10-15 minute or so spurts would be annoying, but the system is so seamless it doesn't really take away from the game at all. In fact, it gives it that childlike sense of "I wonder what cool stuff I'll see tomorrow?"
Definitely a buy.
One of the most amazing things about Marvin's Mittens is how perfectly it captures the magic of playing outside in the snow in deep winter. It hit me almost immediately: The colours, the sounds, even the isolation. But it's not just for children, and in fact I'd say the incredible sense of nostalgia it engenders makes it more appropriate, and almost certainly more effective, for adults.
"Charming" is probably an overused adjective in game reviews (or at least on the backs of boxes), but if any game deserves to wave that flag, Marvin's Mittens is it. It's not a difficult game, nor is it particularly long, and it's not going to put your platforming skills to the test. But it is an immensely satisfying experience that recreates a childlike sense of wonder and exploration like nothing else I've ever played.
This game is pure magic! I sat down to play for a few minutes, and before I knew it hours had passed. There is wonder, and beauty in this little game, and I would reccomend it to children and adults alike. With the soothing music, and lovely scenic backgrounds it is the perfect way to take the edge off a rough week, or get into the holiday mood!
If you're looking for a Christmas game this should be your pick. It's adorable, relaxing and nostalgic.
From a gameplay viewpoint it's platforming isn't the tightest but that works to it's advantage. As you collect snowflakes throughout the world your double jump gets longer and longer until your flying, rewarding the collect-omaniac and the child inside you both at once. My only crititism is that sometimes Marvin doesn't turn as quick as you want him to but in this game you don't need quick reactions.
Perfect for kids and pretty good for adults who aren't dead inside too.
Marvin's mitten is a enemy less platform adventure, about a little boy who has lost his mitten, and who goes looking for it.
It a wonderful little winter platform adventure, 5-6 hours long and perfect for putting you in the christmas spirit.
Controls are nice and the music beautiful. A little gem.
Already owns this game on Desura and have completed it there.
Great game for kids that are still in the age group of believing in Santa Clause.
Controls are good, sound and presentation of the art style is tasteful.
Has a cute story to follow and a few collectible things along the way.
It comes with a nice pacing feature that auto-saves the game and stops the player every so often, not good for hardcore playing since that isn't what the game is meant for but again, perfect for children.
