Bad port. Controls don't work.

Had a great time with this game way back, love to see it running on my machine now.
Had to dig around a bit to make it work as it did on my old Voodoo2:
- Lagrange point crash to desktop / no 3dFX mode / low resolution: run using the -b -16 -hidef -800x600 parameters (on steam library > game propreties > General > Advanced)
- Immediatly accelerating upon spawn - on my case it was a Saitek X56 joystick that was set to the windows game controllers preferred device - windows game controllers panel (joy.cpl) > advanced > preferred device, set it to something supported by the game (I used a old msff2, mapping a vJoy should work also), or set the game settings to keyboard only (options > control type > keyboard)

Happy i got it on sale and its part of my collection. I will watch for updates and hope the fix the issue with the L points crashing the game. Sadly as of 3.16.23 game still crashes. If you can get a chance to play it i can not recommend this game enough. It was every level of amazing back in the say. To all the awesome Devs i hope you can fix the issue.

golden age of first PC interactive games with 3D

i remember loving this game when i was younger... but, i can't get it to recognize any controller/keyboard input. even tracked down an old joystick and nothing works. tried every mod and config file edit i could find, but nada.

Great game. I remember playing this a long time ago... I think it was back in the mid 90s, with Windows 95 or so. Quite addictive. Spent hours playing it. I was quite happy and surprised to see this on Steam. No longer neeed to use my old original disks, which I had to run through Wine. Instead game works natively on Linux!

There will be many more hours waiting for me to play this!

This is the most brilliant space simulation game ever - too bad it's 18 years old!
If this were redone with today's game tech (imagine this in VR!) it would be a must buy for me regardless of the price.

good game to bad you can't play it

One of the few space games that even makes an _attempt_ at semi realistic space flight. The way your own ship is so intricately modeled is a nice touch too.

Even got some alien spookiness if you're in to that kind of thing.

Difficulty spikes are a pain.

This game was fantastic in it's time, and it honestly holds up quite well. The realistic space-flight physics are impeccably designed, and that really is what the core of the game is about. There are no unskippable cut-scenes, allowing you to take in as much of the story as you like, and get to the "good part" of the game as soon as you wish. The story moves along quickly enough to keep you interested, allowing you to take missions in the order you prefer, as they become available. A solid game of the golden age that holds up well to the test of time.

However, gameplay aside, there are issues with the Steam port of this game. As many have noted, there are issues whenever trying to fly through a Lagrange jump point. You can pilot your corvette up to the very point of the jump, at which point the whole game crashes. It's very disappointing to be able to get just a taste of this fantastic game, but to be stymied at one of the core game mechanics.

5/10, Steam.

I've played a lot of spaceflight simulators, and I've never had more fun than I have with this one.

Piloting a larger ship just *felt* good, the science fiction technology was unique, the missions were challenging but fair, and it had a surprisingly good story with some branches and morality choices involved.

I can't speak to any technical issues with this version ... it worked on my box for the first couple of missions ... but the command scheme and graphics certainly are dated at this point.

Sadly, I can't recommend this game. I loved playing it back when it came out, and had hoped I could relive that experience, but that was not to be. Game constantly crashed when entering the lagrange point in the second mission, and no patch could be found (nor should one have been needed, frankly). I'll be happy to buy it again if I can be sure it will work.
