It's a rather boring and short game. The story could also be better especially that its mostly just non interactable. The design is pretty good, but that's already it.
do i regret getting it? kinda
should you get it? i don't know, its your money. but i saw that others do like it, so read the other reviews and make your own picture.
I god this game a long time ago and never played it due to negative reviews saying it was bad and a waste of time. I finally decided to sit down today and give it a shot, and for what it is, I was satisfied.
A bird story is short, and the story it is trying to convey is done well without them using dialog. The music is nice, the art is beautiful, and it has just the right amount of sad moments mixed together with feel good moments.
I've played through 3 of the Freebird Games... games now and i haven't been disappointed with them yet.
truly a bird story of all time
boring ahh game
Compared to the full games I don't recommend this short piece. With pixel art games either dialogue or gaming mechanics are essential in my opinion. Story driven games like To The Moon and similar games or games with good mechanics like Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley or Dwarf Fortress do well with pixel art. But this is too "abstract" to be as enjoyable and memorable.
girl...im gonna go cry now. not sure if its out of sadness or happiness
A short and charming story that’s really enjoyable. It’s definitely worth the price, and I love how everything was put together. It takes about an hour to complete, making for a nice, quick experience.
Nice short story to pass the time, definitely worth at 80% off.
A Bird Story is the second game released within the Kan Gao universe. It was released as a little teaser for the next full title, Finding Paradise, but it's recommended to play after said title by the devs. While more than a little confusing on when to play the games in the series, this adventure was cute and continued to have a great soundtrack.
While loving the first game, this title left a lot to be desired. It presents a raw story about companionship and showed how subjective decisions can be in the real world. I liked it, but could probably complain more about it than praise. I'm still going to recommend it because I think it will add a lot character development for Finding Paradise, but could probably be skipped.
It's just really boring.
very sad
bird
its like the before the second old guy you help but you dont cry in this one
Too boring for me. It's nowhere near a masterpiece like "To the Moon". Even though it's not bad, I don't think it's worth the money I paid for it.
Cute game, lovely sound track, and generally a good morale journey. Plus it's an easy 100% completion.
Great entry in the series
A Bird Story
Has a total of 5 trading cards.
A cute and little story game that is told without words but in a highly touching way. Anyone who ever played "To the Moon" will kinda love this game, anyone else is maybe more confused what´s going on but still enjoyed it a lot, even it´s not longer than an hour maximum. Also not much to do, just follow along and finding the story between the things we do and find the reason of emphathy and life of this little boy and his bird friend.
My wife said if this review gets 50 likes and 5 awards, she will buy a case of beer, guys help me out.
A short story about a boy and his best friend, all told through art and music.
A short sweet emotional experience worth a playthrough, especially for fans of the To The Moon series or if caught on sale. That being said, don't go in expecting particularly complex gameplay or narratives, it's short sweet and to the point.
I very much recommend this as a companion to the more significant entry in the series, 'Finding Paradise'. I continue to look forward to what this developer can accomplish with something as simple as RPG Maker.
This is my favorite game by Freebird games. The story is so cute and deep. I really wasn't expecting the ending. It just goes to show you how precious having an animal in your life is. If you want a feels trip, this is the one.
save da bird
A child with abandonment issues, who leaves notes to himself pretending they are from his parent, gets falsely accused at school of throwing a paper airplane at the teacher. Without any friends to defend him, he is immediately kicked out of class. Pushed beyond his breaking point, the child leaves school and takes some psychedelic drugs (most likely magic mushrooms found in the wild) and hallucinates that he saves an injured bird and helps nurse it back to health. Other hallucinations include intimidating a badger into running away, trees moving on their own, riding on a giant paper airplane and visiting floating islands with said bird, jumping off a 30-story apartment building and floating his way down like Mary Poppins, being popular at school, and a Benny Hill-inspired chase sequence. He also thinks the veterinarian is another bird or maybe the other bird is a veterinarian. I don't know. That part was a bit confusing.
Good game i guess... Nice soundtrack, it's basically there where it shines. After completing it, seems its main purpose is to set the stage for the next game called ( maybe? ) Finding Paradise. Hope i will be rewarded at the next game, as of now this one just takes a barely positive review...
Very nice game. Soundtrack is good and story is minimal due to having no dialogue. It serves as a prequel to Finding Paradise even though this came out first. I believe this could have worked better as a DLC but then it has its own soundtrack so it's good as a separate game.
"A Bird Story” unfurls like a delicate melody, a quiet tale woven from the threads of loneliness and longing. It serves as a tender glimpse into the childhood of Dr. Neil Watts, one of the primary characters from the To The Moon trilogy, offering a poignant interlude that speaks to the silence of growing up in solitude. The boy, abandoned to his world by workaholic parents, wanders through days untouched by companionship, until a wounded bird appears and becomes his only friend.
In its simplicity, the game paints a heartbreaking portrait of the isolation of a tender soul whose only connection to the world is the amicable companionship of an injured bird. Through these moments of fragile tenderness, A Bird Story gently reminds us of the profound impact of friendship, even when it comes in the form of something so small and vulnerable.
The ending, soft yet powerful, is a catharsis—the release of all the quiet grief that has been quietly building in the spaces between the story’s moments. It is a denouement that delicately lingers in the heart, like the fading echo of a long-forgotten song or the relentless cry of waves crashing on the shore. The game, though modest in its scope, carries a weight that feels bittersweet, a reminder that sometimes, the simplest stories are the ones that touch us the deepest.
What better way to close the year than with a tale that speaks not just to the mind, but to the very soul?

Short on the rails storytelling game. Does tug at the heartstrings, probably meant as a healing experience, though in my case I spent all of it waiting for Disaster to strike. Makes for a good filler detox between all the maiming and slaughter,
Fun and thought provoking little prequel for Finding Paradise. Definitely worth playing for the context it gives Colin's character.
I almost thought this was going to be a very different story when Colin jumped off of his own balcony
It's a short game, and a bit odd to say the least. Not one line of dialogue. But with the use of music, cues, and visual effects. It gives an emotional story. Not much of actually controlling the character, more of a visual story playing out type of thing. I personally wouldn't spend over $7 for it. The soundtrack is where it excels though.
kinda cute, sad that most of the game is just cutscenes though ...
It was a cute story but not enough interaction in game. It's fine but I wouldn't play it again.
Positives
- It is a Story with a Bird
- Absolutely beautiful soundtrack
Negatives
- Little to no combat
- Barely any collectibles
- Game basically tells you what to do
- No experience or levelling system
- Limited movement options
- No cosmetic customisation
- No dialogue options
- Really only one boss battle
- No sexualised female characters
- No New Game +
- No deep lore to explore
- No co-op or battle royale mode
- No battle pass
- Wait these are just more positives
Okay time for the real review:
If this is an 'experimental' game, then I would call the experiment a resounding success.
I haven't played any of Freebird's other games, so maybe that's a good thing after reading other reviews of people who were expecting something like their other games. All I knew going into it was it was a story about a boy and a bird. And that's sort of what it is, but it's so much more. I would recommend going into it without knowing too much, as long as you enjoy slower-paced games that tell a story, I think you'll enjoy the couple of hours spent in this game.
I felt such strong feelings of empathy with the boy, I understood him and went on a journey with him both in the real world and his daydreams. The humanity and connection was so well done, and all without dialogue or walls of text. Simple gestures, movements, little exclamation marks or facial expressions convey everything needed. I shared his hopes, his dreams, his disdain for school - well, that part probably already existed! His daydreams blended into reality magically, and I particularly liked the forest exploration bits. The ending was bittersweet, and made this blackened husk of a heart actually feel something.
If you think games can be art, you should play this absolute work of art.
I really want to like it and recommend it to someone. But it is just not what I expected.
Man... I didn't even think that I liked this one... AND THE ENDING STILL GOT ME
Good game T^T
I love the story and the illustrations of the scenery. As well as the small creative scenarios I didn't expect, it was really fun. The interactions with the birb were adorable. The game and plot brought back memories, which made me emotional and very invested in this kid's journey. I look forward to the other stories, too.
Technically the Episode 1.5 of the "To the Moon" Series.
Short prelude to "Finding Paradise".
It is its own self-contained experience, and can be enjoyed as a standalone (it literaly does that: standing up on its own, without needing any help, seemingly unlike most derivative products - which therefore it isn't).
- Very creative & poetic.
- Beautiful soundtrack.
- Superb staging/direction.
[*]Short (<1h30) but just the right length for the story it tells.
After going through this again for the first time since 2014, I regretted not having taken the time to revisit it earlier.
Warmly suggested. 🍞🐦
papa's freezeria milkshake mixer alarm mentioned
A Bird Story is completely optional bonus content that can be played either before Finding Paradise (in release order), or later. It provides a little bit of context for Finding Paradise, but its kinda pointless if you are not very interested in the series. The plot is not a big tearjerker like the others, understandable considering the lack of dialog. However, the story that is there is very nice and comforting. I would buy it on sale.
Not really an indispensable entry in the To The Moon series, but it's worth checking it out after playing Finding Paradise.
it has a little something for everybody
yeah, it's ok to know the prologue before main story in Finding Paradise game
This is not just a video game.
This is pure art.
Amazing.
No birds were hurt while making of this game :))
it's good but way more fun if you manifest a realistic imaginary friend to play it with
It is just ok...
