Sweet fairy tale straight out of the children's books — carrying a serious message alongside it
Very simplistic art style shouldn't and it won't distract you from the principles of life many of us had abandoned. Making your life revolve around money and fame, 'specially when you have neither yet, is one way to make your life miserable. What's it got to do with the game? Probably nothing. But Anna is a great child and her grandpa did a wonderful job on her upbringing. At no point in the game did she ever put anything above her one and only goal of securing the cure for her dearest; willing to go the lengths and endanger her own life just to save her only relative. Family is what your life should orbit around and always come back whenever anyone who's a part of it in danger. Anna hasn't had to live three quarters of her life to understand such a simple concept; something that many others couldn't grasp with one life lived to the fullest. She's a good child and all, born with a curious mind and is yet lucky enough to never deal with the issues and encounters that a demeanor like the one she's got typically causes. Possibly someone else might have put it in the pros but one con I've found has really ached throughout and I'm talking about humanization. It's the most dull aching pain that I usually feel during the playthrough. The devs don't seem to put enough emphasis on it or deem it not important enough to really up their level on that one and I just cringe at it with how poorly it's done. Firstly, the girl won't ever shut up, like never ever. She feels the need from the far beyond, apparently the place that she's got her powers from, to really comment on literally freaking anything that ever happens on the screen. Like it is indeed skippable but to progress further into the plot is to put the hurt on your little finger, it really do be pushing the mouse button non-stop. Secondly, the girl's voice actor mismatch the picture, setting, emotional state, time period and everything else in between. I see a young gal by the castle's gates and once she opens her mouth I hear a spoiled little teen pretending to be a queen smoking by the Walmart main entrance. What is that voice even? The voice is so average of nowadays, it's basically a sign of the times of today. It's fake, it's modern, it's unsettling. Had she been given a more fitting voice this would probably not have any cons at all. I could somehow stomach her never shutting up if it was pleasant to listen to in the first place me thinks. Apart from that the story was rather beautiful and captivating, I'd say this has a better plot than most AAA games today (they don't even try anymore). It kept me invested into it and like the oldfashioned tales go the ending had to put everything in its place and it did. You get to learn more about every single character you meet on your walkthrough and most of them will open up by the end of it. The ending was cool and sentimental, too, I think it was very wisely put together, quite fitting.
Achievements are easy but some might make you look twice and make sure you don't sleep at the wheel, nothing too crazy.
All in all it was an enjoyable experience, I've only truly endured one serious con to it and it might not even be that way for someone else so there comes your own thinking in there. Digest all that I said and I believe you'll do the well weighed decision.
Nice classic, old-style, adventure game. I got a bit annoyed by the long dialogues and voice overs, but since I paid literally a few cents for this game I can't help but recommend it (if bought during sales).

kid friendly but also can be for adults. Interesting fantasy story where you're trying to save grandpa. You use/combine items to progress. Some combinations i didn't fully understand right away but there's guides to help. it goes on sale on regular and for the price it's worth picking up.
This game is an underrated gem. The blend of humor and heartfelt moments makes Anna's Quest stand out in the adventure genre. I especially enjoyed the dialogue and quirky characters. The pacing felt just right, and even though I’m not a puzzle expert, I had fun experimenting and figuring things out. A delightful experience from start to finish.
Exceeded my expectations!
LIKED: A surprisingly complex story, likable characters and lovely hand drawn animation! The game was quite long for a typical point and click adventure and it doesn't shy away from mature topics (the cute artsyle is misleading). You can tell how much love and effort was put in every single detail! Yes, 3D can be beautiful and flashy, but the "simplicity" of the 2D mixed with the unique style, made this game more special. Thank you!
DID NOT LIKE: Overall, it's a very good game, so these are just tiny complaints: Half of the dialogue felt boring and repetitive. It goes on for so long that I started skipping most of it. I liked Anna's voice, but her "ahhh" and "uhhh"s can be annoying. There was just too much unnecessary filler dialogue (PERSONAL opinion) .
Overall, another beautiful addition to the Point and click genre!

Daedalic really is lacking the intuitive sense what actors to pick for voice overs, have to pick average voice in most of the cases. The only good voice overs I find in Deponia and in Night of the Rabbit. Other than this I have enjoyed the game, love simple art and animations! ♥ Technical side taken care too, no issues with game play, haven't encountered any moments where you fight the game instead of focusing on the puzzles and they are properly commented by character and the eye icon indicator so you never lost what are you doing or what to do.
That ending was p bleak tho.
After owning this game for a few years and getting off OW2, I put time into playing it. I have to say it was a nice change of pace. The way the game works is smooth and the way you fall into the story is motivating to see what comes next. The only downside for me (i am a ditz) I would get stuck on the easiest parts or wouldnt fully read the texts on conversation. Right clicking (im on PC) is very important in a lot of the aspects of this game. I give it a 8.5/10, I really enjoyed it, Ill will do a rerun of it to acquire all the achievements as I missed 9. Recommend it!
Was a fine point and click game for the first couple of hours playing, then when I tried playing the next time it wouldn't open and nothing i could do would make it work. Going on the discussion page it looks like a common occurrence that's obviously not fixed so cannot recommend the game.
Very short, playing it felt like it was supposed to be more than twice its length but was for whatever reason cut up into pieces that barely fit together, most of it is just plain boring, the ending to the game is nonsensical and the main gimmick "Tele-ken-nen-ses" is used a dozen or two times throughout the game in unimaginative ways, worst of all the game stops you from taking items because Anna just says "I don't know why I'd need this right now :)" on every single item just to extend the already short playtime a tiny bit more, why is she even the main character? The one chapter at the end where you play as someone else is three times better in every way than the rest of the game just because you don't have to listen to the two-faced goody two shoes going on about being the nicest person ever meanwhile she steals from and harms a ton of people for no real reason, should've been called "Winfriede's Quest" and Anna is the antagonist so set in her ways that she doesn't even see the evil she is doing.
Overall, not even worth to buy on a massive 90% sale, there is nothing here.

It's only been 1 hour, but I don't want to ever leave the game
i can kinda see what they were going for, but, as other people have mentioned, its just not that good a game. while the art is cute, the tone and style are somewhat inconsistent, with a strange mix of medieval fairly tale and modern day technology that doesnt quite mesh.
the story is pretty simple on the surface, and anna is such a goody-two-shoes that it all becomes a bit boring. what adds a little depth is the antagonist, who is far more interesting than anna, but whose resolution seems...unfinished?
some of the puzzle solutions are pretty far fetched or suffer from the mechanics, where they wont let you say certain things or pick up items unless you've done a specific thing previously, even though you already have the information. there's a lot of running back and forth, which isnt that unusual for this type of game, but felt a bit excessive here, because of the aforementioned mechanic where it will only let you do things in a very specific order, even when it doesnt make sense.
overall, one of the weaker daedalic titles, but not entirely without its charms.
Story and telling...
The game has a very clear idea of what it wants to be, a kid friendly, albeit sometimes weirdly morbid, cute adventure game where we follow Anna on her quest to save her grandpa. The game draws clear inspirations from fairy tales, which I think helps to set the tone, since old fairy tales are usually cute, but can get very dark randomly. The gameplay is a typical point and click adventure game, which I have a soft spot for, since the genre isn't exactly gameplay heavy, which leads to the quality of the game being more based on story, writing and characters, and with that, the game's story is... fine. The characters are charming enough, Anna is a good protagonist, always kind, but still curious and determined to save her grandpa. Ben is alright, albeit his schtick of being scared of everything isn't very funny. All the other side characters usually are one note, but will be either funny or likeable. Windfrieda is the game's main antagonist, and while I think she works as a typical "babayaga" trying to eat a child or smthing, the game tries to wrap the ending with the whole "and all was well", but Chapter 6, which is all about her backstory, opens a can of worms, which makes the aftertaste... weird. Overall puzzles are cute, some solutions are weird and obscure, but I don't consider myself a super clever person with these types of games, and I only really needed to use the guide once. (AND SERIOUSLY, WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVE TO USE THE KNIFE ON THE DRESS, LIKE HUH). The only bugs I've experienced were with the second to last chapter, and they weren't massive, just a background character missing. I think what the game lacks the most is an extra chapter, or even a cut-scene at the end, and the mixing of audio is pretty wacky. I like the performances by voice actors, although I could see some people thinking Anna sounds more bored than shy, but having every piece of dialogue voiced in a game with so much talking is still cool for an indie game. Overall fun stuff.

Anyway, this story is well-animated, well-voiced, and has deep lore. (You can pick up some of the lore by playing a separate bonus story in the game folder.)
Puzzles are par for the course as far as point-and-click adventures go. I was able to get through the first 2 acts without going to a walkthrough, but as always happens eventually there are required actions that are hard to discover even by clicking all the marked locations. It's a weakness of the genre itself, since making the actions obvious would change the player from participant to mere observer. It's too bad, but as long as somebody did write a walkthrough so we can see the whole story, it's engaging enough to be worth playing.
While it tries to have some humor, the story is not light or cheerful overall. I don't recommend it for young people who are already sad. But it's a good story if you're up for it.
