The folks who made this should have been hired by Capcom to make everything from MegaMan X4-8. They took what made MegaManX fun, threw in some roguelite, and made a really awesome game. True innovation, unlike how Capcom has treated our Blue Bomber.
I absolutely recommend this to any Mega Man fan. The game is fantastic, has awesome fast paced combat, tons of items and replayability, and best of all, tons of ways to beat the game. I don't really know what else to say other than it's a shame not many people know about this amazing game, and I'm glad I didn't miss out when I went to get 30XX and mistakenly typed in 20 instead.

This game had me addicted like crazy. Even I am shocked that I put about 80 hours into it. I very rarely can actually play a game for that many hours.
If you're into the idea of a roguelite game in the style of Mega Man, you can't do any better than this. I love the music and the gameplay is stellar. The graphics kind of have that "flash game" look but I found them pleasing to look at and very colorful. The game also performs great and is smooth as silk at high framerates.
You won't be disappointed!
Controller does NOT work for this game. Keyboard seems to work fine but I couldn't get the controller to work with it. And yes it is an XBOX controller as the game itself recommended. If you plan on playing this with a controller, it may not work. Upon googling it seems like other people are having the same issue. A proposed solution was to edit the game files in some way but it's much easier and faster to just refund the game.

What did I like?
* I love the artstyle and the soundtrack a lot
* the roguelite system with the progressive elements is well made
* challenging platforming
* seed rendered level design
* coop mode (online and local couch coop)
* challenging old-school action
* 2 difficulties but plenty of customizable start conditions
* unlocked stuff for being randomized drops can be locked later on again to raise the chances to get good stuff
What did I not like?
* basically only one ending with just minor changes
* game is pretty hard, Steam achievements are absolutely only for hardcore gamers
* story is just a framework
* story cutscenes during game are only shown once, then never again (why? just why?)
Summary:
I totally love this games overall presentation as I was always a fan of the old Megaman games. This game not only delivers a good platforming action with well made reguelite randomizations, but also a coop mode to enjoy the game together. Yet, prepare yourself for a pretty difficult time to play it through.
Hated to see that the sequel 30XX was a step backwards to retro pixel graphics though. I understand why, but I liked the 20XX kind of presentation still way more.
Nice Rogue based game which is inspired by Megaman, yeah basically Megaman meets Rogue, can be unforgiving incase you you run out of energy/health as you die & have to restart back to beginning, also the levels will change everytime you do an attempt on passing through the levels but you get stronger each time you fail which is not all bad news, similar to Hades or Dead Cells but here it's for Megaman, it's not necessarily Megaman but kinda like it, you also play as a female protagonist who shoots but I think you can also play as a male protagonist too, which is based on melee combat attributes, you also got to sort out your attacks to know the enemies weaknesses in this game if you want to get far, especially bosses, can get a bit challenging later on but if you know what your doing, it's probably a cakewalk and no trouble or problem you also get little abilities like increase speed and move fast as standard, I recommend this Indie rogue Megaman inspired game called 20XX. Can be addicting, one of those games where you refuse to put down as you can play this hours upon end & not get bored while you defeat enemies which are in your way as they want to defeat you instead, since I've played it a little already, there's also 30XX which is supposed to be 10 times better than this game 20XX. Rogue Megaman Inspired is definitely a recommendation.

Mega Man clone. For some reason I just can't get into it. It's not a bad game, just didn't really hook me. I've heard the sequel to this is really good. If you're going to pick up 20XX check and see the price for 30XX too. You might be able to get them both for a good deal. Wait for them to go on sale, it happens all the time.
It’s safe to say I was blown away by how fun I found this. Occasionally the random level design can be awkward, but this is a fast, fluid and rewarding platformer made even better with co-op.
The big value is in the nostalgia for MegaMan X. For fans, it will be a great trip, but it is likely not for everyone.
Big fan of the Megaman serie, was pretty disappointed with the roguelike elementw, really did not enjoy at all, just annoying and does not serve a purpose other than adding replay value.
TLDR: Multiple times had enemies on other sides of walls so had to take damage to progress to kill them, as well as multiple times feeling as if I got a platforming section on the end level I could NOT pass without a certain skill which I did not find.
I hadnt played this game in ages so wanted to give it another go, and I was enjoying it at first however, many levels Id have enemies RIGHT where I needed to jump so I HAD to take damage to get to where I needed to go because I couldnt kill them from where I was, I also had multiple times it seems at the end level that there was some sort of the level set up to where I COULDNT continue, like for example, as far as I could tell just now there was only one way forward on the end level, however it was blocked by a turret enemy in the middle above a pit of lava, multiple fire turrets on the ceiling and the blowtorches as well, and there was NO way I was going to be able to get across without the midair dash which I never found. I still want to get their newer game, and really hoping its more fun than this. Like I said, I did enjoy this at first for a while but just got so frustrated with so many times of HAVING to take damage because I couldnt get past a wall due to an enemy right on the other side so I could not kill it until I got over.

Personally, I enjoy 30XX's gameplay much more than this one, but that doesn't mean the sequel completely replaces 20XX. There are still a few moments of brilliance that can only be experienced here.
My gripe with this game is that there isn't enough theme variety so during the same run, you're bound to revisit a location with the same theme that you've already seen. In addition to that, some of the platforming segments are rather annoying to navigate around if you don't have the right kind of upgrades.
That said, the game still succeeds at providing a fast paced platforming action akin to Rockman/Megaman, and 20XX has 3 different core sets each with visible visual changes on the characters. This allows for mixing and matching of the armor visuals, which is something 30XX doesn't have due to the only visual change in the sequel being now relegated to resonant armor.
Besides, when on sale, this game goes for very cheap, so if you are looking for more Megaman inspired action, this is still a solid option even if you have already played 30XX.
If you like rougelites and Mega Man, then this game is for you!
