Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

I love this game its old but its iconic graphics are amazing love it so much

Was far superior to earlier FS versions, and great for making up flights. I mostly flew small one engine planes because I would often go to small airports. For instance I once flew from St Paul to New Orleans along the Mississippi River, landing at each small runway as I headed south. Finally upgraded to a more than enough gaming computer and monitor, so looking forward to updating to FS 2024 tomorrow.

Oh Flight Simulator X where do I even start with you all the years ago when I first laid eyes upon you and started my virtual flight simulation Journey From then on I knew we were meant to be together me and you together into the sunset until msfs 2020 did we part

I have been playing this for 9 years and enjoyed every minute of 3442 hours. I am a FSX addict. It has NEVER failed me. It has been a life saver in my retirement. Reloaded after getting a new PC with Windows 11.

Good as a starter flight sim but I recomend upgradeing to the 2020 or 2024 version

Its the entire world, although by today's standards a bit "primitive." But for being able to run on almost anything nowadays, AND $25 in a market ruled by $60+ titles, its well worth the time to put in, vanilla or otherwise.

HOWEVER, be prepared for crashes and digging through MDMP files and debuggers, scrolling forums for help, and doing ramshackle fixes to keep it running on modern operating systems and hardware. The game is 18-20 years old by now, but that comes with the benefit of almost two decades of forum help and game veterans to help you on your way. Only 6 hours in, finding the whole process very enjoyable!

Side by side configuration error (0x36B1) while plying on steam, tried various options to resolve, but sorry to mention it all didn't work !!

MSFS2024 is better, but if you're playing on a potato pc with just a mouse, FSX is enough.

If you want to take flying lessons in a Cessna 172 this simulator is as close to a real cockpit simulator as you can get. It will a lot of stress away from your first few hours of flying lessons.

Almost unplayable due to the fact that the game is constantly changing/reverting my settings. Twice my settings were changed mid-mission when my sound device settings changed lost all voice sound and another when my compass/pointer setting changed and I lost my pointer. But the fact that I load my settings, enter the game and my settings already need to be changed again? Infuriating.

This is certainly an aging simulator, however, it is a lot of fun for developing your own scenery and exploring your creations. It's also a great classic with lots of freeware options that make it more appealing visually and many options to fly all kinds of aircraft! This one will always be in my library due to how interactive it is.

Actually holds up really well as a flight sim and is on par with X-Plane in my opinion. Biggest draw here is that FSX will run on a potato, so if you have a rig from the stone age, you should be good. You also have a huge compendium of aircraft and addons available within Steam. Be aware, however, when purchasing a lot of DLC, addons, etc. you will need to go into the "tools" tab in your steam library and search "FSX" to locate it, then install it. This is especially true for Active Sky Next, Air Hauler, and any configuration utilities attached to your DLC. That being said, most aircraft will automatically be integrated with your game's DLC.

Still great nearly 20 years later, and you get to mooch off all the nice addons the simmers left behind.

i was planning on getting MSFS for Christmas so i bought FSX first to learn how flying a plane works, and after numerous attempts and countless hours, i finally learned the basics and had tons of fun along the way. i strongly recommend this game

IT was great to get back into this (from years ago) in preparation for the brand new MSFS24 out in November. I cannot wait!

Even though it's nearing 20 years old, this game is still amazing in 2024. It runs REALLY WELL on my Linux PC and I can even play multiplayer with my friends!

Bought it as it was on sale and it's been a blast reconnecting with it. I'm an ATS and ETS2 Sim Driver mostly - so I'm pretty spoiled on graphics. Still, as a learning platform, this is a great tool so I can be ready for 2024 when it releases.

i have always been a big flight sim guy especially Microsoft editions. Having this Steam edition is smooth and works flawlessly and is very enjoyable. Much easier to use than the personal version which requires software keys. I would give the Steam edition the edge if you just want to fly and not tax your personal system with all the software.

This game is kinda slow, old and boring, but my Dad used to play it all the time when I was a teenager, and even into adulthood. I played it with him again a few months before he died. I think about him when I play it.

Crashed to Desktop right after splash screen everytime

Searched around for support, the game needs to install a bunch of stuff manually before it can run(none of which seem to be compatible with win10) and im unable to install any of those components.

ii enjoyed the non steam version of original FSX a lot back in the day , thats why i probably wont refund this and rather struggle with installation at a later date

The aesthetics of each MSFS: You figure out the interface in the first 40 minutes. You're calling him. And at 41 minutes you are already enjoying the game and the wonderful interface that you hated a minute ago. The game is perfect, even after so many years. The only thing I would like is at least some kind of graphics pack, I would buy it for any money. Even if there were only new textures.

game installed fine but opens half on my screen for some reason? i cant do anything with it. its just stuck there i cant move it its basically windowed just half a window?

I'm a real world pilot since 1964. I have flown gliders, single engine and twin engine aircraft in Australia and in the USA and have owned 3 different aircraft over the years. Now at the ripe old age of 77 years I really really really enjoy flyiny FSX: Steam Edition and Lockheed Martin P3D, these two simulators really do provide very accurate simulation of real world flying without the FAA regulations, fuel/rental/ownership costs and weather challengs of the real world. I was surprised to learn recently that I have logged over 8000 hours in FSX! It really does provide wonderful flight time on a budget. If you are thinking about flight simming then I say just do it!!!!. Be patient with yourself because there is a very steep learnging curve which is in itself is a very fun part of the flight sim experience. Best wishes to all, Max

Now that I have upgraded my windows from 10 to 11, this game no longer works for me. I have tried numerous workarounds posted on the steam community forums but nothing gets this game working. I have only managed to run up 10 hours of frustrating attempts to get the game working but it wont work. Steam even refuses to give me a refund! So what am I supposed to do with this piece of crap that doesn't work with the latest version of windows??? And so do they expect me to just go buy their latest version for three times the price and watch it stop working when windows goes to a new version???

Able to play with decent graphics on a 2011 PC and it works great. Highly recommend it. Great intro to flying with large libraries of add-ons. I really like the tutorial/training modes.

If i could say maybe recommend on this, i would. For what is a 18 year old flight sim, its fine. However, out of the box, this game likes to crash on Windows 11, at least in my experience. If you can afford it and have the PC able to run it, just go for MSFS 2020, the scenery is much better and its alot more stable. If you can't afford MSFS 2020 or dont have a capable enough PC, this will do just fine but beware of random crashes and freezes.

Microsoft FS remains the premier flight simulator with very realistic flight dynamics and textures. Highly recommend this simulator.

just started, i crashed almost every single plane i could think of (like 2) and already feels great, playing with a mouse is kinda hard, should save up for an actual yoke

buy this if your hardware is shitty like mine, or buy it anyways, those are your only options.

FSX is not worth your time with other more recent titles smashing every part of what this was capable of.
Want flight dynamics get X-plane, want a combat role its DCS, want a decent all rounder that needs mods but looks great, MS flight 2020. Just wait for MSF24.
