Once Upon A Time...
Deep within the walls of a gloomy castle in the equally gloomy land of Draxsylvania, the young, gifted opera singer Mona De Lafitte is held captive by her tormentor, vampire Baron Shrowdy von Kiefer. Ever since she was transformed into a vampire by Shrowdy and whisked off to Draxsylvania, her greatest wish has been to return to Paris, continue her singing career, and one day become a star at the Paris Opera.
When Shrowdy fails to return from a nightly foray, she at last sees an opportunity to flee. Together with her only friend and confidant, a cheeky bat named Froderick, she escapes from her prison and tries to find her way back to Paris. During her flight through Draxsylvania, where she encounters some strange inhabitants and some even stranger challenges, Mona must learn not only to accept her vampire nature, but also to use the abilities she has acquired to her advantage.

Don't know if its my rig but this game isn't running that well on my PC
Game crashed twice on me setting me back since there's no autosave. I had to constantly keep looking up a guide since certain objects and controls wouldn't activate, one particular puzzle involving an animal toy cost me 15 minutes clicking around even though I knew the solution cause the point and click controls decided not to work until I moved to another room. The other was collecting a certain item that used time I spent time on this one cause I couldn't figure out the timing it was sheer luck after clicking enough times I got it.
Other puzzles are typical for this genre very obtuse and you have to click everywhere. The game is very obviously inspired by Lucas Art and wears that inspiration on its sleeve. Just one problem it's not funny many jokes are 'dad' jokes or puns and leave me rolling my eyes. I cannot recommend this game and not just because of poor optimisation there are many other point click games that are more funny and charming. Oh yeah voice acting and music is fine not memorable but fine. PS It ends on a cliffhanger
This is a meaty point-and-click with all the things we loved from the Sierra and Lucusarts games of yore. There's tons of stuff to click on, and unique dialogue for most combinations of actions and inventory items. It doesn't quite reach the level of "Harvey & Edna: The Breakout" in this regard, but it does match the first Broken Sword game.
The voice acting ranges from good to excellent. The puzzles have the expected level of point-and-click weird logic, and I did have to reach for a walkthrough one time because I missed an item in an early area could be picked up.
Now, about the jokes. They're constant. And they are terrible. I mean, really terrible. Even Saint Daddius the patron saint of Dad Jokes would be facepalming on some of them. But once I got over the pain, the bad jokes became part of the charm.
I encountered a handful of technical issues. Sometimes the sound would stutter, but exiting and restarting the game fixed it. It crashed to desktop once, and there's no autosave, but thanks to obsessive manual saving, I only lost a few minutes of progress. Finally, a couple of lines of lines of dialogue late-game had spoilers, in that they referenced the results of a puzzle I hadn't solved yet.
My only real gripe with the game is that it ends on a cliffhanger, a trend in point-and-click games that I dislike, but the sequel (with a TBA release date) is instantly on my wishlist because of how much I enjoyed this game.
Overall, this is an excellent point-and-click with a great soundtrack, fun characters and enjoyable puzzles. I highly recommend it.
those who use AMD parts will not be able to play this game from what i have tried without more serious fixes on the users part.
you can get the game to run and start up using fixes as discussed in the community tabs, but you will not get around serious fps problems because it is incompatible with AMD software it seems as compared to intel, ATI and geforce it was build for.
I find it hard not to recommend A Vampyre Story, despite its flaws.
Let's just say that its highs are sky-high, and its lows... 6 ft. under.
Liked the joke?
- No? Then forget about A Vampyre Story :) It's chock full of jokes every other line of dialogue. Bad jokes, terrible jokes, half-decent jokes once in a while.
- Yes? Woohoo, I guess you can give A Vampyre Story a try!
But let's delve a bit into the good, the bad and the ugly of this game.
The OST by Pedro Macedo Camacho is absolutely masterclass, and makes the game worth playing for that only, if anything.
On that same level are the graphics: the hand drawn backgrounds, soft lighting and warm colors all contribute to an unparalleled atmosphere.
Puzzles and puzzle design are definitely the highlight of the game. They are both refreshing and nostalgic of the era of Lucasarts classics, with their quirky solutions, creative ways of using characters and NPCs, and over all a well balanced difficulty level. The ability to use Mona's vampire superpowers to solve puzzles was no doubt the most fun I had in this game.
So what's not to love?
Even Mona is endearing and naive as she gracefully endures the avalanche of jokes her bat companion Froderick rattles out without refrain. Well, at least until she decides to join him and doubles down on awful, terrible, truly atrocious jokes.
Dialogues are among the worst I have ever experienced in a game or media, period. Mona will TALK to objects. To doors, to windows, to PLANKS... "Hi boat, what's your name?" "Hey Mr. Gank Plank, you look very... gang planky".
And with these quotes I leave you to ponder, whether you are in or out.
I am still in. The puzzles, graphics, and music are just THAT good.
Just don't examine, talk, or observe anything, and try to "wing" it 'till the end.
Oh no... the jokes are contagious!

Some of the puzzles are definitely like "really? that's how it's solve? really." but still a great point and click adventure puzzle game from my childhood. Here's hoping we get part 2 after all these years lol! I've heard that it's...soon?
the game is astory, click and point game. It`s well written and the cutscenes are great too. Mona and the baz are really well done. The puzzles are at a good level (not too easy and not too difficult), but if you still get stuck, there are guides. All in all i can only recommend the game.
Generally enjoyable.
The voices of Mona and Froderick can be a little grating but are tolerable.
Some of the puzzles use a little 'adventure game logic' to solve.
Remember: Right-click to instant-travel between zones and space-bar to skip walking animations and dialogue.
The humor is refreshing, though.
Its a good game .
