Great remake of a classic point and click adventure. Game let's you switch between the classic and the remastered grapphics at any point. Puzzles are really imaginative but it's true that some of them can feel really hard to figure it out. The game includes a clue mechanic to make solving them easier tho. Still one of the most charming games I've ever played with a lot of fun scenes and dialogue options.
found it a little harder than the first monkey island. More locations and quests. again the story was really enjoyable and a good script.
An amazing sequel to an amazing game, it expands on the awesome, humorous lore of the Monkey Island crew, and I don't think I know a more lovably incompetent pirate than Guybrush. If you enjoyed the first you'll enjoy this one too, as it also contains equally fun puzzles, amazing environments, and lovely humor.
Good thing I did not spend more than $20 on this fantastic video game!
One of the greatest games of all time
a mandatory classic in point n click gaming
good
What is not to like about classic point & click adventure games from the early 90’s. They were and still are perfect. It is very nostalgic to replay MI2 in its remastered glory. You can of course switch to classic mode by pressing F1, but I only tried it a few times to compare.
I cannot give enough credit to Gubrushs voice actor, and I am pleased to hear he voices all the monkey island games. The updated graphics are great, and they really capture the original artwork.
Visit locations such as Scabb Island, Phatt Island, Booty Island and Dinky Island. Sit back and enjoy the amazingly written dialogue and prepare for quite possibly the greatest ending to an adventure game. Some puzzles are quite tricky, but a help system has been included.
It is an oldie, so as expected there are no performance issues at the highest settings on my 4080 at 4K. The only issue worth mentioning is that when playing in classic mode the text was too fast. There might be an option to slow it down.
best.. video game... ending... EVER!!!
-- How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
--A woodchuck could chuck no amount of wood since a woodchuck couldn't chuck wood.
BTW: I LOVE THAT GAME. THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY CHILDHOOD, RON GILBERT!
one of my all time favs. great puzzles, good jokes
The best adventure series ever made!
Love this game. I have needed to do lots of research to move on with puzzles. I sort of like doing the research. i feel i have accomplished something when I finally move on. I think this is a game impossible to do without doing research. lots of the moves are not logical so impossible to achieve without constant research.
I love doing this. Unless you like me like doing this then this game is too hard.
Another trip to the world of point and click nostalgia. This one is longer, weirder, and just as challenging to figure out.
The mouse click system to determine how you interact with the world around you is far more quick and elegant than the one in the previous special edition. It means that when seconds count you can still manage to do what you need to do.
There's a few parts of this instalment that are absolutely confounding, and once again required me to consult a walkthrough. That said, just like last time there's fantastic help available right from the main steam page for the game. Many thanks to steam's amazing community for always being ready with the hints and tips.
The ending left me more than a bit confused, but I have a feeling it was supposed to.
Overall I had a terrific time playing this and look forward to the next one.
It's silly and fun
Classic
I remember when Monkey Island 2 first came out many years ago. It was the early nineties and we were just little kids back then. One day, an older brother of one of my friends managed to get his hands on Monkey Island 2. In a few hours, half of the neighborhood was at his house, sitting around an old 15" CRT monitor and admiring the amazing new game from Lucas Arts. It was one of the most iconic games of my childhood.
The story takes place somewhere in the Caribbean, shortly after the events in the first game. Once again you are Guybrush Threepwood, a mighty pirate. Having defeated his arch-nemesis LeChuck in the first game, Guybrush sets his sights on a new goal worthy of pirate legends - finding the mythical treasure of Big Whoop.
The original "Monkey Island 2: LeCheck's Revenge" was an absolute masterpiece back in the day. It had incredible graphics and atmosphere, clever puzzle design and very memorable characters. The main music theme became the stuff of legends and it's played all over the world by street performers. More than anything, Monkey Island 2 was hilarious and contained jokes that I still remember to this day. It also had a difficulty setting, which is somewhat of a rarity in point'n'click games. You could choose between easy and hard mode right at the beginning of the game. While easy mode was somehow manageable (it was harder than most adventure games are today), hard mode was insanely hard. Special Edition only offers hard mode, but with a couple of additions that make it more playable. In the old Monkey Island, you could interact with anything in 9 different ways (give, open, close, pick up, look at, talk to, use, push, pull). In the Special Edition, this is largely simplified and you'll always be presented only with the viable actions when you click on something (for instance, you cannot "talk to" a door anymore). There is also the addition of hints, which you'll be probably forced to use at some points since there are a few very illogical puzzles in the game. The hints weren't implemented properly though and have their own set of bugs.
Special Edition brings much needed voice-acting to the table and comes with an option of switching between the "old" and "new" graphics at any screen. Speaking of which, the "new" graphics are a bit too colorful for my taste, but they look good nevertheless. On the other hand, character animations are pretty stiff and should have been done a lot better. The atmosphere from the original game is still present, but feels a little diminished somehow, maybe because of the too colorful graphics or overly-goofy character design. There is a developer commentary added in Special Edition, which is available at some points in the game. I wish they also added the ability to exit screens with a double click. Instead, you'll have to wait for Guybrush to move at his slow pace from one side of the screen to the other every time. Well the game is pretty short as it is, I guess it would be even shorter if you could quick-move.
I have to say that playing the Special Edition has somewhat tainted my memory of Monkey Island 2. It was a lot better game 30 years ago, but those were different times. Hands-down, this remake is pretty solid and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't played through the original game before.
Score (out of 10):
8
great
Best Adventure game and franchise of all time
It's a trip down the memory lane with one of the best point and click adventure game ever created!
Plenty of funny moments, but the puzzles are so outrageous, I think you're better off watching somebody else play.
Fantastic game
The monkey got cooler.
It's Monkey Island 2 with updated graphics, enough said.
If I may come with some sort of feedback regarding the special edition, it requires a 3 button mouse to be able to play it properly. Not a big deal right? Yeah, try playing the game on a laptop with a touchpad and no middle click. :(
a Classic part deux
If you have two ears and a heart, you will love this game.
Monkey Island----Always a good time!
Best Comedy Game Ever.
a+
hot people in it
Great! Classic! I play once every 5 years or so and it's always fun.
