Welcome to the world of Rime Berta: a whimsical world of swords, sorcery and tactical combat. Command an adorable but deadly army of sentient "puppets" on a quest to claim an artifact said to grant any wish.
Craft your team the way you want, draft each into a class that fits your battalion, and control the battlefield to attain victory.
Livia's story
Players follow the journey of Livia, a young girl whose village has fallen victim to a terrible disease. With no known cure in sight, Livia resorts to venturing into a mysterious tower on the outskirts of the village, said to house an artifact capable of granting any wish.
Having no idea what lies ahead, Livia bravely steps into the tower...and into the greatest adventure of her life.
Classic Tactical Combat
Rime Berta uses classic SRPG mechanics that gamers have grown to love. Units move across a grid-based battlefield with variable height, and can attack using a variety of single target and area-of-effect attacks.
How you own the battlefield is up to you. Will you overwhelm individual units with brute force on an even playing field, or will you use the environment to your advantage, and funnel enemies into a valley before springing your attack?
Each class has its own share of strengths and weaknesses, and it's up to you to make sure you use it to your advantage.
Reactive Turn Battle
In Rime Berta, while your fights are turn based, it doesn't mean you're defenseless when the enemy is moving into place. Using powerful "reaction" skills, you can set your units to react to specific condition changes in the battlefield.
Once set, these skills will activate during the enemy's turn, allowing you to quickly retaliate when the tide begins to turn.
Leveling & Evolving
As your units fight and grow stronger, they will learn a plethora of new skills. Switch in and out the skills you need to customize your units to fit your strategy. Even within individual classes, there's plenty of customization to be found.
Learn the right skills for your units, and they'll have the ability to change to a new hybrid class with its own set of unique skills and spells. Each class has its own unique class promotion tree, with chances to further specialize your soldier.
Customize, strategize, and command your troops to victory! The fate of your village is in your hands!

40/80 is my cheevo rate for this game *and* my rating of this game.
My complaints:
- Got throug the campaign and still not sure what difficulty level slider does.
- Was never able to class change into a bow master, despite meeting the criteria. Thief or Archer, that's it (Thief did have options to change, though).
- The last battle is brutal even on easy: insane HP on the boss, move-canceling reactions on support. Plus the VOLCANO MAGIC.
- Story is as "meh" as they say.
My compliments:
- Designing and actualy making a playable battle system without items.
- Multiple classes to change to with *straightforward* requirements.
- Every ??? skill ( one that's not been unlocked yet) also has deducible requirements. YOu *can* put 2 and 2 together to know what exactly to do if you want to unlock a skill.
- Dungeons are different enough and make certain classes shine more than others on certain maps.
- The game's not pretending its story is something grandiose and elaborate. It serves its purpose - just like in those days of CRT RPGs.
P.S. The art has been bashed enough times, I won't do that. The only place the art matters is battle. And those "battle sprites" are just fine.
Rime Berta is a cute little SRPG with just enough complexity to make it fun. None of the systems are overly complicated, though it can get a little grind happy. That wasn't a problem for me as it isn't nearly as grindy as the Disgaea franchise.
Its kinda cute and i like that you can retreat from a battle and keep levels and skills learned but its got too many drawbacks. The bodies staying on the field is a huge one, in small areas with directional skills its just annoying, let me stand on them! ALso the huge enemy armies against your few makes battles take ages. Moving the camera is kinda a pain too. For me though the biggest problem is how the damn screen jerks around showing the enemy attcks and movement, it made me sick. Just too much making it not fun. I gave up and uninstalled.
This game sucks, and it's very apparent even 15 minutes in.
For starters, the controls are ass. Rime Berta utilizes isometric battlefields with variable elevation, and the ONLY way to control the game is via mouse. As such, you'll often encounter stupid camera issues where you just can't click anything you want to. Controlling the camera is an absolute mess and it really betrays a lack of any playtesting whatsoever.
The game isn't fun or strategic. There was obviously 0 effort spent on balancing the game. Even on the second battle, you're outnumbered and outgunned. The only viable way to progress in the game is through sheer grind, which is totally antithetical to what strategy RPGs are all about.
Also, the game spends 0 effort on introducing you to its mechanics or... telling you anything, really. It's all there in the manual. I shouldn't have to read the entire manual just to understand what's going on.
This is a mobile port of a game similar to a merge of Disgaea and SRPG Pocket Lord.
Even though there are 3 endings... honestly speaking, the story is a bit too short and there's too few stages. We can finish the game before we finish upgrading the troops, which means we need to grind the same stages over and over again to get to the final class change... which, in some SRPG, this type of grind is pretty normal... but only if the stages aren't fixed and being the same all the time without random generated stuffs. So this game can be really repetitive and become boring in the grind because of that.
Should have added a random stage generator to add to the playability of the game and this game will be perfect. But overall it's still fun just not that much replayability.
It's grindy, short, could use with some more complexity, but overall fun if you like turn based combats. Wait for a sale and grab it for a couple bucks, I would not recommend paying full price for his tho.
This is frustratingly close to being a good game, but it's riddled with obvious issues that prevent it from being one:
* I don't usually complain about graphics, and I do like the aesthetic of RB, but lighting is not something should not be omitted in any 3D game.
* Control pad support is about as bad as it could be.
* Mouse controls (which are obviously favored by the designer) are pretty bad as well.
* Balancing simply didn't happen.
On the whole it seems like someone was well on their way to making a great game and then they got stopped. Selling this game at the $15 mark is a bit galling. In its present state I'd value it at $5 or less. If it were to be completed then I could see $10, and if it were fully polished $15, but it's simply not there right now.
After clearing the game 100% I can honestly say that Rime Berta is about as good as its steam review shows. It's ok. Not perfect by ay means, but it is a fun, short, grid-based RPG. The story is lacking, and the levels get repetative. My biggest complaint is the class system evolutions. Sometimes units wont know the required skills to evolve later down the line. If you really, REALLY like games like Fire Emblem, Disgaea, or FF Tactics, than id say pick this game up durring steam sale and give it a shot.
If this game was released on the PS1 console, I would have easily put 100 hours into it. However it was not, and it does not hold up in the current atmosphere of SRPGs available on Steam or anywhere else.
It draws a lot of comparisons to FFT, but for all the wrong reasons. It's a basic SRPG that needs very little instruction (which is good because it offers absolutely zero) and has a wide array of classes to choose with promotional trees. This was interesting, but within the first few hours you will find yourself already dismissing entire classes due to their uselessness, and favoring mages instead. The skill leveling system was also interesting, as individual skills level up with usage, but that goes for defensive and reactive abilities too, which are obviously not easily controlled by you. This leads to some major grinding needed.
To level up the way you'll probably want to, you need to revisit previous stages. The stages are the exact same layout as your original fight, and you have no way of choosing your own troop deployment or where they start. It makes the high level of grinding needed in this game even more unenthused. Read some of the posts and guides on the forum here, some of the suggested leveling methods involves beating the 3 enemies on the very first stage over and over again... That's just not fun.
The story is kinda meh. I didn't get far and nothing about the story made me want to see what the next stage had going on.
If you like PS1 era SRPGs I would suggest Brigandine, Tactics Ogre, Vanguard Bandits etc as far superior options. If you are limited to products available on Steam, I highly suggest Eador (see my review) or Banner Saga.
1: The game has no sort of way to teach you to play, they just drop you off on the 1st level without any text.
2:There seems to be little to no ways to heal up.
3: It's also too slow paced. It takes 8 clicks to move one character, and once you have a full group and they all have to move up 3 squares, you find yourself rushing your turn just to get it over with. It could be a drag click and click enemy to attack and it'd be much faster paced.
This game could be much better if the UI was setup correctly, but you can't even press esc to pull up a menu and change the keybinds. It's all done with the mouse, making it even slower to move the map around.
Ok, so it isn't worth it at full price, I'll admit that. However, this game does bring about its own little tactical twist. If you're a huge fan of melee characters, you might not like this game as much simply because it's much more challenging to use them than ranged characters (or if you like challenges then ignore that point). Mages definitely shine here, as they do the most damage and allow you to burst rather quickly.
I feel like the game is a bit underdeveloped, where the developers were in a rush so they just released it without more thought. It is a gem however in which that you don't really have to grind too much for an RPG, but it's just the right amount for you to be ok with as a casual gamer. Many unique features like fusion are set up. Don't expect gear, or items or such from a simple fresh turn-based tactical game like this.
In short, this game is definitely worth the buy to try (not full price), it offers a fun, tactical positioning, game where each unit matters (since you only use 5 per stage). For a PC game where it can't process many units at once, this game pulls off its simplicity very well. The music is NICE.
one of the better SRPGs released in a long time. Hard difficulty is quite hard. There is no Disgaea nonsense here. There is no ffta or ffta2 nonsense. This is a pure SRPG not a Korean grinder pretending to be a SRPG. If you're bad power leveling isn't going to help you much. At least not on hard.
Plays like FFT mixed with either older front mission or tactics ogre. Compared to FFT you have far fewer skills per unit but they all do significantly more (e.g. damage + status or defense + status removal). You can pick up to 6 things from a list of actives, passives and overwatch/reaction skills.
You have limited "casts" of actives per battle, but outside of high tier star spells its hard to run out. There are no items. Passives are basically your items. If your strategy is good you'll progress, if not you wont. Simple as that. If you can't figure it out and refuse to think of some good strategies don't play SRPGs.
In short: It's a semi-competent SRPG with some odd design choices, grindy and tedious progression, and charming but weak characters and story.
Rather than giving a comprehensive review and nitpicking about the lack of available resolutions, or how there are typos and broken tags in the game text, or how the character art was seemingly drawn by little Billy, age 6, using the GIMP's default brush and burn tool, I will focus on my biggest gripes with the game.
The UI could benefit from mouseover popups that tell you in detail what everything does. None of the attributes have any kind of description, you have to open the manual for that. You can't easily hover over (de)buff icons to see their effects, you have to either check the manual again or open the caster's status menu and scroll through the skill list for the description. But how long does the buff last? The game won't tell you.
Whenever a unit dies, it leaves behind a body that occupies the tile. The reason being that there is a resurrection spell in the game, even though you won't actually see it until the last few stages of the game. Since many of the levels contain small cliffs and narrow passageways, it makes moving your troops forward a pain, and in some cases impossible due to their slow movement and jump values. This makes the already weak melee units even weaker.
Difficulty is good for the most part - until the very last level. The final boss fight requires either very high levels, or very specific tactics to counter magic nukes.
The AI is poor. Often it only ever attacks the unit closest to it, even if there are vulnerable targets available. Occasionally the AI backs away to cast buffs even if it makes little sense given the situation. AOE casters pay no heed to their allies and will mercilessly harm their allies and possibly even themselves if it means scratching the player's full HP tank a tiny bit. The AI seems to ignore the player's reaction skills entirely, a very useful weakness to exploit during the final battle where a single AOE nuke can wipe out the entire party.
Your units' starting positions depend on what party slot they occupy. This is usually not a big deal, but there are some maps where your party is split and placed on the different sides of the map. This can lead to a quick defeat if your fighters and supporters are not evenly distributed.
Most importantly, the game is tedious. The story isn't very interesting, you only get bits of the story during the first and last levels of the current floor. Dead bodies quickly clutter up the battlefield and limit possible moves, forcing you to clean up the remaining enemies by moving your ranged units up while everyone else attacks thin air or buffs a rock just to level up their skill proficiencies, and this takes forever. I would highly recommend setting battle speed to its max value from the options menu.
I had a really enjoyable time playing this game. It's not that great, but it's not that bad either.
It has a good variety of skills and classes, which makes up for the lack of items and equips, giving room for many different grouping strategies.
There are some challenging maps, that will require some "grinding/training", making it barely impossible to clear it in one go.
There are some issues (such as a childish plot and simple graphics), but the greatest let down is the AI, which is very simple/weak (even in hard mode).
The enemy's motto is basically: "just marches towards your closest foe and hit it with whatever you got".
And that's bad, especially with mages. Don't be surprised to see enemy mages trying to have physical duels against your strongest warriors. Also, when using area skills, they won't care about friendly fire.
Overall, this is a simple yet playable game. It's nowhere near FF Tactics or Disgaea and the price may seem a little more than it's worth. Buy at your own risk, and maybe you'll like it as much as I did.
Quick conclusion. Do I recommend this game? Not at full price.
People talk here like it's "Like Final Fantasy Tactics or the Fire Emblem or Disgaea". Well they are not completely wrong, but they are not right from another point of view.
Everything I will say, is according to my playthrough (2 floors cleaned 6,5 hours played on hard difficulty), achievement analysis, and screenshot analysis.
Lets talk in numbers.
4 Floors.
5 levels each.
20 levels (game stages total).
3 "starting" professions.
Warrior upgrade goes like x3 (second) x1 (third) = 7
Archer goes like x2 x3 = 9
Magician goes like x2 x2 = 7
So it's 23 professions to choose from, not bad huh ?
Yep but this are the all the enemy you will encounter in the game (+3 plot dolls who just useless but have high HP).
There are no more enemy types in game.
No gear. Trere are NO items or potions. No inventory. Just skills.
There 6 types of magick. Guide staits that Fire->Lightning->Water->Fire and Dark->Light->Star->Dark. But trere is no elements on the characters (exept buffs), so for the most time it is just like "hit the mage with fisical, hit the warrior with magic to win).
Difficulty ?
Total maximum of your characters are 20.
In batle you can use 5, with no replacement.
There are 10-15-20 enemies, you should fight with 5 of your dudes.
No item difference, no profession difference, no skill difference ever. Plus you often start in terrible position (like group separated). Of course it's difficult, but it is just "zerg rush" you see.
Here my playtime with it if you need more proof.

You should buy this game, is a really good game. If you like Final Fantasy Tactics or the Fire Emblem series you'll feel right at home with this game. A few very specific things about this game are a bit problematic for veterans of the tactics type of games however. (Keep in mind some of these issues are only on HARD, and if you pick the normal difficulty you'll be fine against a few of these issues.)
You don't get you place down any of your units at the start, everything is just kind of preset based on where you have your various girls put into slots, so slot 1 always spawns in the same spot on level 1-1, etc.
Theres no items. This isn't a huge problem however except for very early on in your gameplay, just because you start with only 3/5 character slots filled, level 1-1 is you vs 3. at the end of 1-1 you get a new girl in your party, which gives you 4 girls... level 1-2 is your 4 girls vs 8 (or 9 I don't remember), so unless you get really lucky with RNG or you will need to rerun 1-1 just to get your 5th girl slot filled.
Theres no gear of any sort. The way you get powerful is based on leveling skills, which is also how you evolve your units into different classes. (I like this system but it can be confusing at first)
These issues are only really a problem in the very beginnings of the game, and they become non-issues after about 1-3, but I wanted to touch on them so you know what you're getting into and to tell you to NOT QUIT just because it is hard in the beginning, it gets better.
One small gripe I wanted to talk about with the game is that the controller support is a bit meh. The pre-game launcher could only detect like, half of the buttons on my wired xbox controller, like I couldn't get it to find my D-pad so I have to use my stick which can be a bit annoying. The other EXTREMELY annoying thing is that for some reason after I have input an action into the game, if I don't want to follow through with that action, pressing the cancel button on my controler doesn't actually cancel the input. I have to right click with my mouse in order to get it to cancel, but every other time I can cancel inputs just fine with my B button on the controller, not sure what that's about.
Overall this game gets a 9/10 from me, just because of the simple controller issues, Gameplay itself is an easy 10/10 for this game genre.
The game is extremely simple and bare-bones but it's still a pretty good SRPG if you've played every other one in existence, extensively.
You got 3 basic starter classes (Mage, Warrior and Archer) that then branch out into 2-3 other classes which in turn can change into 1-3 master classes.
It has a team-member-fusion system where you can ... fuse team members together and gather bonuses depending on level.
Skills are acquired by continual use.
My gamepad glitches out now and then and the controls are a little wonky but overall, I'd reccommend it if you like Tactical RPGs and you're not too worried about lulzy graphics.
Cute enough looking little turn based RPG, but one with no meat at all to it. I was hoping on first look that it would be a lighter, but still interesting, PC replacement for one of my all time favourite games Disgaea, or at least on par with something like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. However the combat system is as basic as I've ever come across in this genre, with very little strategy involved, and poor AI. Perhaps the latter will develop later in the game, but nothing I've seen leads me to believe this will be the case. The storyline also seems very lacking, which wouldn't be so bad if there was anything to the rest of the game.
Character and party customization is limited to a fusion system which again is very shallow. The art style is decent, nothing special, and the partial controller support is pretty poor, refuses to map the majority of my controls (on an Xbox 360 pad, so not a case of obscure tech), and is just a headache to use, having to switch between controller and keyboard/mouse in the middle of each characters combat action... really, just don't bother with it using a controller.
There is a serious lack of this style of game on the PC, which has always disappointed me, and this game does absolutely nothing for me as a fan of this genre. In the same price range you can get Agarest, which is a far superior offering to scratch that tactical RPG itch. Even those looking for something really basic are going to be far better served by something such as the free flash game Ultimate Tactics.
Very Quick review from only playing the first 2 levels.
This is a very poor man's final fantasy tactics. It doesnt seem terrible for what it is so far. To enjoy this game I would say SRPGs have to be your favorite genre.
+Different job paths for party members to take.
+Ability to "fuse" 2 characters together to make 1 better one
-No gear (atleast so far, 2 levels in, I dont see any options for it anywhere or anything)
-As basic of a grid SRPG combat system as you could possibly have
All in all, I will give this a "recommend", but barely.
I know this is a bit early so I may edit it later down the road. Just providing this to keep some of the buyers informed.
Pros
*As an RPG the game is good as it gives you a wide range fo things you can do and you can change classes and fuse them to have better stats and more move sets.
*Has Keybindings
Cons
*The art style is not that good but your not playing the game for the art style.
*Resolution only gose up to 720 and Fullscreen is also binded to the Resolution (It's the one thing that bugs the hell out of me why can't it go to 1080)
*Controlls are bit clunky and the Start Up Menu has keybindings but it's misleading since it's labled as Game pad
*Screen dosen't lock so if you have multiple monitors you can click out. But I will say it's not a big deal since it's a trun based game but it would be nice if they had it so it would lock.
All I can think of for now may add more later.
If you like Final Fantasy Tactics or Disgaea your gonna love this game for sure :D
you can change jobs, learn skills, the exp its based on performace on each turn lets say if u atk some1(enemy) u will get exp but if that turn u did nothing u will get no exp, just like in FFT :P,so far the game looks awesome 10/10
