Unreasonably good story telling, decent gameplay.
When reviewed in 2025 this game worked without any BS patches/compat mode BS, just worked - refreshing for an older title.

yeah, spose it's pretty fun aye, 30 hours put into just on pc, countless more on 360 back in the day, had a lot of fun, would definitely play again in another 12 years. Buy it when it's cheap, or when it's not, full price is still a third of the price of these scams that get released nowadays
So, I just played this game, and here’s the scoop. The graphics are pretty sick, and the music really hits the spot. The martial arts combat is super fun! It keeps you engaged and doesn’t get old. The gun mechanics are solid too.
But the real gem here is the story. But I wish it was longer.
The game captures the vibe of the Hong Kong, even if the places aren't exact replicas. The overall feel is on point.
A couple of nitpicks: some Chinese characters don’t really make sense, and they use simplified Chinese instead of traditional. But overall, as a local, I’m pretty happy with how they portrayed Hong Kong. Not perfect, but decent enough!
Combat is easy to learn, Open world is amazing and the characters feel engaging. Wish there was an online pvp though
Very fun mix between Yakuza and GTA, aged very well. The DLC is also good too, I absolutely loved the Zodiac tournament's bruce lee aesthetic. Nightmare in north point was pretty decent and Year of the Snake felt a little short. I got the game for around $3 so I would highly recommend it.

Very good "GTA clone" with very good story, a lot of activities and collectibles. That's the second game from 2014, I've played recently that imo looks fantastic for its age.
I especially liked that almost every activity unlocks something after completion, be it new car, clothing or showing collectibles on the map.

If you like Hong Kong action movies, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, etc... just buy the game because it's awesome
yes it is an old game but the game play holds up once you get the hang of the driving (just dont use your right thumb stick) you ll have a good time with this game.
story is engaging combat is simple but very fun lots to do in such a small open world if you played this at its release this is what gta ivs open world should have been like.
gameplay mechanics are amazing with the hand to hand combat. shooting can use a little work but the game dosent encourage you to just cover and shoot. use the games action features this game is an underrated one and if you can pick it up for 5 bucks or less its a bang for you buck.

Good game but i was not able to complete the game due to an error at Mrs. Chu's revenge. The main disappoint thing is, it doesn't have cloud save feature

This game got overlooked ass another GTA clone but man it's so much fun! The first half is pretty slow but after the wedding mission shit hits the ceiling and things get really interesting. Really wish this game received a sequel.
1 of the most underrated games of all time imo. the combat is awesome. there's tons of in-game content like different side missions, different collectibles, and really cool outfits that add different buffs.

Sleeping Dogs is Truly and underated game, If you enjoy open world city games like the GTA series, Saint's row etc.. You will enjoy this game, The combat is mostly focused on martial arts but you will end up using guns later in the game more often.
The story is a MAsterpiece , You will experience happiness sadness and anger playing this game ( IF you really get into it.)
After you finish the main story , you can still do side quest , Races, and of course a lot of collectibles if you like to hunt those.
To End , i'd like to say THIS is Worth playing , if only for the story, cause it truly is brilliant!

I've played this game for the 5th time now, and its super fun everytime.... i found bugs in the definitive edition though
Omg, this game on steam deck is absolute must. Run it on the high AA with extreme graphics and density. Runs at 50fps maxed out and is still a gorgeous game. Im having my favorite experience of playing this now this many years later on a handheld.... Crazy!

For just a few bucks when discount at the writing this recommendation, it is really a well-made open world game with the elements of martial art fighting, racing and gun-shooting.
Despite the fact that it is a 12 to 13 years old game, the graphic is still very decent at Year 2025. It is also the best timing to play the DLC 'Year of Snake' (already included in the Definitive Edition) as Year 2025 is Snake's Year in Chinese Calendar.
Give it a try if you have time and did not play it before, you will not regret it!!!
One of the best character and story
I love all the features of this game. Excellent taste on music and the cars? FUN. Is like Grand Theft Auto but make it Chinese. More gore and more brutal in fights just like those martial arts movies.
This game built my childhood mainly because my parents didn't let me have GTA but tuff none the less

This game deserves another installment, but will never get one. This game was nearly canceled. But dont worry, they will make 47 Call of Duty games with a user score of 27%.
This game's nostalgia factor is insane I would only imagine for those who grew up in HK, but as someone who frequently travels there this game really did justice for its whole background, NPCs, the food, the crowd, etc. Can't blame it if someone would start swearing in canto irl after playing this game. Gonna keep repeating this game to get the rest of the achievements and reliving the I fought the law and the law won. Absolutely 10/10 game for its time and repeatability of the game.
Its a shame this game doesn't have a sequel or any other spin off. One of the best open world games out there with fun combat and excellent characters, Wei Shen will go down as a top tier protagonist for me at least . Sleeping Dogs will feel at home to those who moved away from "home" at a young age and came back as adults navigating the place you once called home yet you don't quite fit in. Overall underrated gem and deserving of another go, I hope we will get to see more of this one day.
Although a bit dated in terms of gameplay and graphics, the game still holds almost 13 years later. The fighting is very fun, combo-ing enemies left and right, as well as driving and ramming into cars. The story is great and will surely keep your attention until the end. The only negative aspect is there's no Sleeping Dogs 2.

The game is a hidden masterpiece. It was collecting dust in my library for quite a long time, because who the hell plays 2014 games? Right? WRONG! This gem is like a breed between GTA, True Crime and sort of Yakuza series. But i would say it has it's own particular vibe that keeps you playing. It has a nice balance of action and story and game mechanics a very enjoyable.
Give it a try and you will love it.

this game reeks of xbox 360 era in the best way possible. short and sweet action game with a nice setting, fun gameplay, mechanics, combat, and cool action sequences. also an awesome game to play on the steam deck, just an overall solid ass game, love it.
I can’t believe I never played this sooner. This is really a game that doesn’t get enough recognition. Definitely worth a play. And it’s only $2-3 on sale, the greatest bang for your buck. You won’t be disappointed .
Sleeping Dogs has kept me coming back time and time again, continually impressing, engaging, and enthralling me every time I sit down to play. It's a fantastic experience even 12+ years after it's release, and I commend everyone who played a part in creating Wei Shen, the characters around him, and the world he inhabits.
My heart yearns for another game in the Sleeping Dogs universe.

Had this game for so long in my library but I can't give it enough credit.
It's the best openworld I played in quite some time, the Hong Kong vide is really there, the combat mechanics are good and the open world activities are fun and not so repetetive.
Give it a try, it goes on sale very ofter, and it still looks good after all these years.

I love this game I've been playing for 4 hours just been messing about in free roam with the amazing fighting mechanics, feels like bruce lee and john wick, just started doing the cases and missions, the upgrading system is sick. BUY THIS GAME. WE NEED A SEQUEL.

Man.. Finally completed this Game. Truly Worth every second I invested in this game. To the point that its amazing story emotionally grasped me so much that I felt it couldn't be much great! Seriously, one of the most lovable and engaging experiences I ever had playing an open world after GTA V with great story and characters. Some people are going to say it's a badly made GTA clone but take a second to look beneath the surface and you will understand it's so much more. GG
So it works for a good night. At least just a night because after one night, it started to make my game crash all of sudden, trying to make a refund right now seems i doubt they would refund because this game makes me crash after like 10 minutes of gameplay. I tried to fix some issues but those issues were for windows 10... windows 11 have like, no solutions at the moment. Quite unfortunate, i hope i get my refund.
