One of the best character and story
I love all the features of this game. Excellent taste on music and the cars? FUN. Is like Grand Theft Auto but make it Chinese. More gore and more brutal in fights just like those martial arts movies.
This game built my childhood mainly because my parents didn't let me have GTA but tuff none the less
Underrated Gem, Probably the best game i've played. The combats are really fun and fluid
such an underrated game, good gameplay, smooth grapichs for 2012 games, just play it
I didn't really expect much from this game....I was so wrong. This is definetely an underated game. It's not groundbreaking but it is really fun to play.
Incredible story. Good gameplay and the controls still far pretty well
really fun story, and u get to beat up chinks
I achieved 100% completion on PS3 back in the day. I bought the game on PC solely for the DLCs. I just wanted to leave a review on Steam to say that this game is truly ahead of its time!"
This game deserves another installment, but will never get one. This game was nearly canceled. But dont worry, they will make 47 Call of Duty games with a user score of 27%.
This game's nostalgia factor is insane I would only imagine for those who grew up in HK, but as someone who frequently travels there this game really did justice for its whole background, NPCs, the food, the crowd, etc. Can't blame it if someone would start swearing in canto irl after playing this game. Gonna keep repeating this game to get the rest of the achievements and reliving the I fought the law and the law won. Absolutely 10/10 game for its time and repeatability of the game.
Its a shame this game doesn't have a sequel or any other spin off. One of the best open world games out there with fun combat and excellent characters, Wei Shen will go down as a top tier protagonist for me at least . Sleeping Dogs will feel at home to those who moved away from "home" at a young age and came back as adults navigating the place you once called home yet you don't quite fit in. Overall underrated gem and deserving of another go, I hope we will get to see more of this one day.
Although a bit dated in terms of gameplay and graphics, the game still holds almost 13 years later. The fighting is very fun, combo-ing enemies left and right, as well as driving and ramming into cars. The story is great and will surely keep your attention until the end. The only negative aspect is there's no Sleeping Dogs 2.
A man who never eats pork bun, is never a whole man!
The game is a hidden masterpiece. It was collecting dust in my library for quite a long time, because who the hell plays 2014 games? Right? WRONG! This gem is like a breed between GTA, True Crime and sort of Yakuza series. But i would say it has it's own particular vibe that keeps you playing. It has a nice balance of action and story and game mechanics a very enjoyable.
Give it a try and you will love it.
Very good game. A classic. Wish it was longer, the true final boss was fight offscreen kinda?
This is the best game I have ever played the best game play and the graphic is very good and the story is amazing
amazing hong kong aesthetics and cinematic slo mo fights is what makes this game stand out. really great gaming experience. will recommend to anyone who'd like beat em up style story themed games
Replaying this game in 2025 is not a disappointment, it is still fun and fulfilling. The graphics upgrade is well done for mid range systems.
must play, really good story and combat.
this game reeks of xbox 360 era in the best way possible. short and sweet action game with a nice setting, fun gameplay, mechanics, combat, and cool action sequences. also an awesome game to play on the steam deck, just an overall solid ass game, love it.
I can’t believe I never played this sooner. This is really a game that doesn’t get enough recognition. Definitely worth a play. And it’s only $2-3 on sale, the greatest bang for your buck. You won’t be disappointed .
Sleeping Dogs has kept me coming back time and time again, continually impressing, engaging, and enthralling me every time I sit down to play. It's a fantastic experience even 12+ years after it's release, and I commend everyone who played a part in creating Wei Shen, the characters around him, and the world he inhabits.
My heart yearns for another game in the Sleeping Dogs universe.
Couldn't believe I hadn't played this game before. Very good and the graphics hold up pretty well
Had this game for so long in my library but I can't give it enough credit.
It's the best openworld I played in quite some time, the Hong Kong vide is really there, the combat mechanics are good and the open world activities are fun and not so repetetive.
Give it a try, it goes on sale very ofter, and it still looks good after all these years.
Main story has a good Hong Kong action movie scenario.
Oldie but a goodie. Lots of smashing, crashing, and an interesting story line make Sleeping Dogs a fun and memorable experience. I especially recommend it if it is on sale.
I love this game I've been playing for 4 hours just been messing about in free roam with the amazing fighting mechanics, feels like bruce lee and john wick, just started doing the cases and missions, the upgrading system is sick. BUY THIS GAME. WE NEED A SEQUEL.
This the the best game ever like Gta 3 an open world game , action , fighting experience and many more things you can do in this game
Amazing open world game with fluid fighting mechanics. You'll feel like a badass Hongkong action movie hero. Totally recommend it if you like an action plus fighting game.
Man.. Finally completed this Game. Truly Worth every second I invested in this game. To the point that its amazing story emotionally grasped me so much that I felt it couldn't be much great! Seriously, one of the most lovable and engaging experiences I ever had playing an open world after GTA V with great story and characters. Some people are going to say it's a badly made GTA clone but take a second to look beneath the surface and you will understand it's so much more. GG
So it works for a good night. At least just a night because after one night, it started to make my game crash all of sudden, trying to make a refund right now seems i doubt they would refund because this game makes me crash after like 10 minutes of gameplay. I tried to fix some issues but those issues were for windows 10... windows 11 have like, no solutions at the moment. Quite unfortunate, i hope i get my refund.
When I was around 12 years old my mom bought this game for my Xbox 360. I beat the game multiple times and enjoyed it from what I remember. I recently bought it when it was on sale to revisit it since it's been a long time since I last played it. It was still good as I remember it being. Sleeping Dogs focuses on melee combat with light parkour and gunplay. The story follows Wei Shen an undercover cop who has infiltrated the Sun On Yee triad and must balance between being a cop and a triad member. I was invested in the story from start to finish. I liked many of the characters specifically Jackie and Ricky they grew on me the most out of all the characters. The open world is filled with a lot of side objectives to do. I won't go into specifics because I don't want to spoil anything for first-time players. This was my first time playing the two DLCs and I enjoyed both of them. I did end up going for all the achievements because I wanted to experience the game to its fullest extent. It was a fun experience. It wasn't difficult to complete just lengthy. Overall, I fully recommend this game to anyone who missed out on playing it when it first came out. On a side note I want more new people to play this game. I feel like its underrated and doesn't get recognized enough. PS: R.I.P United Front Games 2007-2016. Instead of them working on Sleeping Dogs 2 they decided to work on and ended up canceling a game called Triad Wars (A free to play online game set in the exact same map as Sleeping Dogs) which ultimately contributed to them shutting down.
Game is like GTA and Yakuza with great gameplay
One of the best open-world games ever, much as one of the most unintentionally hilarious and buggy (in a good/fun way) games ever. Highly recommend it.
Everything Sleeping Dogs has to offer has been done before and better, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. Within the first few missions the game starts off with such a high note that the rest of the game can't ever reach that high again. I was just hoping for the game to impress me again with running through buildings chasing bad guys, but it just never really delivers again. it ends up being this mediocre gangster story with sometimes getting the message "Don't forget who you are" but then just continue doing gangster stuff. So much potential.
A part 2 could've build upon the critiques and actually deliver something groundbreaking, too bad we will never know. For the low price of 3 euro's it's more than worth your time!
I love this game so much! Right from the combat system to the story and even the side missions! One of the coolest games I've played. Recommended for sure.
great game, great story, really shook me up with the ending, just great
It's GTA but in hong kong. Other than that great game. Wish they made a sequel.
This is the best game u can get on steam for just a dollar. It's simply one of the greatest open-world game ever made it's just perfect in every way [10/10]
very fun, if you enjoy games like yakuza, gta or any of the arkham games then this ones a must buy especially since it goes on sale for like $3 very often.
At $2.99 when this is on sale, it genuinely puts many modern games to shame. Honestly, I had more fun with this than I have had with many other games lately that are vaguely similar to it, as well as most other games period. I've started and quit many Yakuza games, but this held my attention. I enjoyed it more than Red Dead 2. It's better than Cyberpunk, but at this point the bar for that is on the floor. It's especially better than Cyberpunk when it comes to driving. If you think the driving in that is awful, don't let anyone on the internet gaslight you. You're right. Without exaggeration, it's some of the worst driving that has ever existed in any videogame, ever. Steam says Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition was released in 2014, and it has profoundly better driving, even though it's simple. AAA games might be getting worse? The driving is also better than many Need For Speed games.
In general, I don't think this games beats GTAV in any category, but if you want a break from a game like that, or just want to drive on the left side of the road for a change, I would absolutely recommend this for $3. It took me about 11 hours to beat the main story, while ignoring most of the side missions, which I was happy about. I would have a much more critical opinion if it forced a 40hr story onto me. I much prefer 10ish hours and then a world map covered in markers to explore for the endgame. It ran fantastic on a Steam Deck, with a constant 60fps at medium settings. The graphics absolutely show their age at times, but it looks better to me personally than a game from 2024 at the lowest settings, and runs much more smoothly.
The melee combat is similar to the Arkham Batman games, but significantly more clunky. Almost every fight you can just spam X, and then spam Y when you need to counter a red outlined enemy. That being said, it's not awful and I had some fun with it. There are lots of options for moves if you want to experiment. The gunplay is not awesome, but I didn't hate it or get annoyed at it. I mostly just found it slightly boring and repetitive. I think the driving, the writing, and the fun world to explore are the best parts of the game. The story won't change your life or anything, but I was surprised at the quality of the voice acting, and I found myself immersed in the story even though it didn't seem like anything terribly unique most of the time.
It's just fun!
Rating: 9/10
Review:
"Sleeping Dogs" is an exhilarating dive into the underbelly of Hong Kong, blending the slick action of an '80s cop drama with the depth of a modern crime saga. Playing as Wei Shen, an undercover cop infiltrating the Triads, you're thrust into a world where every choice feels fraught with tension.
The game's standout feature is undoubtedly its combat system. The martial arts mechanics are both satisfying and visually stunning, capturing the essence of Hong Kong cinema. Whether you're dishing out a series of punches in a crowded market or engaging in a more strategic fight, the combat never feels repetitive.
Beyond the fisticuffs, "Sleeping Dogs" offers a rich tapestry of activities that enhance the open-world experience. From high-octane street races that test your driving skills to more unique pastimes like cock-fighting or karaoke, the game does an excellent job of making Hong Kong feel alive and interactive.
The narrative is compelling, with enough twists to keep you guessing. However, while the story grips, the side missions can sometimes feel a bit repetitive. Yet, this minor flaw is easily overlooked when considering the game's strengths in atmosphere and gameplay.
The voice acting and soundtrack contribute significantly to the immersion, with a neon-lit, gritty vibe that's hard to resist. The city of Hong Kong is not just a backdrop but a character in itself, vibrant and full of secrets.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a game that offers a unique blend of action, drama, and cultural exploration, "Sleeping Dogs" is a must-play. It's a hidden gem that deserves more spotlight for its daring narrative and dynamic gameplay. Whether you're a fan of martial arts, crime dramas, or just looking for a new adventure in a beautifully rendered world, "Sleeping Dogs" will not disappoint.

It's basically GTA with more common senses missions and hand-based not gun-based behaviour. It's not that hard to complete this game, it's just lack of side missions in which if you completed them all, then you'll be bored by just roaming through the cities. Especially, there isn't much mods for this game unlike GTA series.
(Yeah, i still prefer GTA SA over this game)
Nice game , good graphics , good story line , good mechanics
Looks great for its time, cool music, good story, intriguing characters, and fluid brawler combat that is still fun to play even now. I loved backstabbing and betraying people here.
Great action. I like the combat mechanism, it's so satisfying. The action shooting also great. The content is a bit repetitive.
Actual Master Piece. Still going to 100% and play the DLC's
All bugs I encountered were more funny than game breaking or anything like that
This over GTA any day, but I do love good martial arts in games.
and just from the main story, one of the few 10/10's for me.
Sad to see we wont get a second one.
GTA-style open world city playground where everyone drives on the wrong side of the road (Hong Kong). Complexity wise, it's more like San Andreas or even Vice City, it is not super deep but that works for it.
The combat can flip between two modes, a typical third person cover-based shooter you'd expect in this kind of game - it is just ok but the opportunities for abusing slo-mo are fun. There are some instances of destructible cover and your usual tricks like explosive containers, but not a huge variety of strategy there. The melee combat is similar to the Arkham Games in execution, in a 1 vs. Many setting, the enemies tend to fight you 1v1 hand to hand as though the know and accept their role as cannon fodder. There are a couple 1v2 mechanics in the game but not a lot. If you enjoy those kind of fighting systems, Sleeping Dogs does it pretty well, and there are always lots of instakill props laying around to speed things up. The counter is insanely forgiving so you are pretty much immortal.
Environment wise the city definitely has a character and glow to it from North Point to Kennedy, definitely one of the better parts of the game and what makes it unique. There's a good variety of vehicles and the inclusion of a car park/purchasing system so that you can rely on a decent car when you need one. The skill progression system is OK, but not overly exciting and unlocks a little slower than you would like - not that you really need it because the game is just not very difficult.
The main mission will take you 10 hours or so to finish. While that isn't the longest campaign, I did enjoy the story in this game, it's of course a double agent Honk Kong cop story which fits the environment perfectly, and the plot is pretty engaging. There's a high point like halfway through the game that serves as a really engaging jumping off point into the second half and the ending is solid enough. Not going to win Oscars but there were memorable, well-acted characters, a lot of violence, and it possesses the aura of an urban nightmare the whole way through. After finishing the story though, the side activities do seem a bit dated or retro, from car races to cop jobs to collecting shit ala Banjo Kazooie and aren't likely to keep you engaged beyond the main quest unless you are a completionist and like this era of completionist tasks.
Crazy how the game was so good that it made everyone forget that there isn’t a SINGLE dog in this game let alone a sleeping one. False advertising at it’s finest smh.
Sleeping Dogs is an underrated masterpiece. Wei's story as an undercover cop in Hong Kong infiltrating the Triads makes an unbelievably engaging and thrilling plot full of twists and turns. The combat and action direction in general delivers a pretty cinematic experience. The game is jam packed with content and places to explore, but they do get a bit repetitive over time. For the price of 3 dollars, I'd say it's a damn good deal. I recommend snacking on some pork buns while playing for the complete experience. 7/10 Recommend.
