I still play it once a year because I like the vibe.
I challenge anyone who doesn't "Get" it to try playing it like doom 2016. Speed through everything, skip every log, play on nightmare difficulty, rip and tear,. Suddenly it feels like the Doom you know and it might be your new favorite too.
I respect the fact that they tried something different and they actually did well. Not for everyone but if you are a big fan of the doom games like I am then this is a easy recommend.
I love this game so much because it is a survival game and it includes some jump scares. My dad introduced me to this game last year and I have completed the three Doom 3 games about 8 times. It is still a fun game to play again even though I have completed it so many times. If you are into horror, survival, and killing demons from hell then this is your game.
I never got to play Doom 3 back in the day. So this was my first time playing and it being the BFG Edition. I read many other peoples complaints about this version not being as good, and mostly due to the flashlight and being able to use a gun. I can say this didn't take away the enjoyment I had playing through the game and beating it in 2024. It's worthy of a playthrough, and I recommend this for anyone who is a fan of FPS and of course the Doom series. Make sure you wait for a sale though.
For its age, this game continues to have balls. :)
10/10.
Yet another botched "Remaster" to add to the pile. The problem is not the mounted flashlight as some would claim, it's:
The cut content, less enemies spawning, new weird glitches, brightens cranked to 11 which ruins the atmosphere, worse gun sounds, muzzle flash being gone, a lot more ammo which makes the game way too easy, etc, etc, etc.
Do yourself a favor and play the original with an hd and flashlight mod.
Fucking horrible campaign, even worse multiplayer gameplay. 2 hour queues
DOOM 3 is the starter of the enhanced gaming experiences of the game and more realistic even in gore.
Besides of there's no way to increase the Brightness in-game in Doom 1 & 2, and the not so bright flashlight in Doom 3, it's addicting!
DOOM 3 is THE classic PC horror shooter that began a generation of gaming experiences!! I have always loved this game and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to play a shooter on PC, that requires not a very powerful PC to run even. I play it on my HP laptop all the time.
doom 3 is not the scary by any means but it is a fun game and since it comes with the first 2 doom games + Resurrection of evil it is worth getting
The BFG edition is the better DOOM game, OG DOOM 3 is the better survival/horror game. The DOOM franchise has horror elements in it, but in its essence it is not about surviving horror... in DOOM you are the HORROR!
Conclusion:
The original DOOM 3 is the better game when not regarding the franchise, because the developers intended for it to be a survival horror, and the BFG removes many of the features that make it so. If you are into getting the shit scared out of you, you play OG DOOM 3.
BFG is practically a mod of DOOM 3 made to more closely resemble the DOOM playstyle, I like to pew pew all the time, not a big fan of the flashlight mechanics, I like the enhanced graphics. I like bringing the DOOM, so I like the BFG edition.
As someone who has played both of the more modern dooms and enjoyed, I still consider this to be one of my favorite games. I need more games where I am scared of what is around every corner but I still walk around it and kill the monster on the other side. The lack of fear in many shooters can make it feel less immersive, but this game I can completely zone into the world and forget that I am a human at a computer controlling a virtual dude. Honestly can't tell if I like it more than the modern dooms or not.
All of this to say, it is an exceptional game, and i recommend you play it if you get a chance.
"Achievements have been disabled due to the console being enabled during this game."
Unskippable cutscenes.
but very nice game.
use source mods for better experience.
A classic, but does not live up to today's standards. It gets very repetitive seeing the same enemies over and over. The most obvious conclusions or answers to puzzles are way too often wrong, and you may find yourself stuck in certain levels having absolutely no clue where to go to advance.
Doom 3 BFG is a good package. Especially on sale you get many games. Games which defined the fps genre. I played the original doom games and I played the doom 3. I think doom 3 bfg is a refined version of the classic doom 3. doom 3 was a good game. At the end it got a little to tedious. RoE and LM felt lazy in comparison to the main game. From a modern standpoint the game just feels old. If you played the games before and came to revisit them this is for you. If you are new you will have a hard time to understand the vibe cuz the game is repetitive as hell. The hell levels are repetitive too. Get it on sale you get 20h of classic shooter action.
Region-locked, can't access Steam page without VPN.
No Complaints from me, this is a very solid shooter. A lot better than i was expecting.
For a 20-year old game, it's still good, but certainly not great by modern standards. Doom 3 deviates from the previous formula and focuses on horror elements, has deeper lore, but still has a linear gameplay and same redesigned monsters from Doom & Doom II. After a while it starts to get boring, as most of the time you just kill enemies and dodge their projectiles (which basically is like classic Doom, but with a slower pace). I got spooked maybe twice during the whole game, as enemy spawns are scripted in a rather predictable manner. Bosses are pretty easy to defeat. The endings (main game and expansions) left me a bit underwhelmed though. All in all, I still enjoyed it. 7/10
"I must apologize for Doom 3's shotgun. It's bad. We have purposely coded it wrong... as a joke."
-John Carmack
couldn't get achievements to work and eventually gave up. maybe there's a way to get it working but i haven't found it yet. something in a recent patch made it to where using the in-game console disables steam achievements, but its a bug and there's no way to turn that option off afaik.
tried:
editing the config file inside of the doom 3 bfg folder/and adding +seta com_allowconsole 0
going to the games properties on steam and adding the same command line in launch options.
deleting the doom 3 bfg folder in saved games/id software file location. (saw this suggestion somewhere.)
its a good game, and if you don't care about achievements then grab it. just giving a fair warning to what you might experience.
Doom 3, BFG edition or standard... is the most shit game I've ever played. This is the first game to ever get GENUINE HATRED from me. LET ME LIST THE PROBLEMS!
Ok, first off the story... It's so fucking cut scene heavy that you'll age 15 years before even getting into your first combat encounter. Doom, to me, has always been a fast paced action shooter. Not this slow, methodical, horror bullshit. It's a travesty that it has the Doom name attached to it. If it WASN'T Labeled as doom, I wouldn't be as mad. But when I think of "Doom" I never think of doom 3. Because it doesn't feel like doom. It feels like a standard, sub-par sci-fi horror shooter.
Next up, the weapons... I hate them. The shotgun is barely effective. The PISTOL YOU START WITH IS BETTER THAN THE SHOTGUN! The spread of the shotgun makes it look like the barrel is nonexistant, you can stand perfectly still, 3 steps from a wall, fire, and see the spread pattern is, at 3 feet away from what your shooting, wider than any enemy. So for you to get ALL the pellets to connect, you have to be FIST DEEP IN THE ENEMY! At that point, use the pistol, forget about the shotgun.
THERE ARE 2 THINGS I LIKE ABOUT DOOM 3! That being the chainsaw, and the new design for the hell knight. Everything else can, no pun intended, burn in hell.
Look at how they've massacred my boy....
Doom 3 BFG is an inferior copy of the original Doom 3 for one main reason: the audio is a severe downgrade. Sound volume is weirdly low-quality with inconsistent volume, for example the guns are very quiet, which makes shooting them very underwhelming. Another example is the shuttle that brings you onto Mars, it barely makes any sound at all when its hovering there, just horrendously immersion-breaking stuff. Ambient noise is also misbalanced badly, either being too quiet or way too loud to the point of drowning out other sounds. This absolutely ruins the game for me, since the outstanding sound design was such a huge part of why I loved the original. Also there are no audio options AT ALL in this, like you can't even turn the music off, just sheer laziness to leave out such basic audio settings. At bare minimum the sound should have been as good as it was in the OG, but for some unfathomable reason they've gone & made it far worse.
Video settings options are not much better, basically you have very few options beyond resolution size. Again a major fail by the devs to neglect these.
It runs alright and looks the same as the original from what I can tell (that is to say it hasn't aged all that well), but the horrendous (and downright broken in places) audio prevents any sort of immersion, and it's missing many basic audio/video options that basically every other 3D shooter game from like the year 2004 onward has. Also the default control scheme was the strangest I've ever seen in a PC game (left control fires your gun and right click makes you jump, why not?)
If the sound quality is so bad that it's like hearing loss simulator, the game is ruined. 4/10 do not recommend, give it a whirl if you don't care about the broken audio or think you can fix the sound issues.
DOOM 3: BFG Edition – A Compelling Revamp of a Classic
DOOM 3: BFG Edition is a superb reimagining of the iconic survival horror shooter that originally captivated players in 2004. Released in 2012, this enhanced version breathes new life into the beloved classic, making it more accessible and enjoyable for both newcomers and longtime fans of the series.
One of the most significant improvements in BFG Edition is its graphical upgrade. The game features enhanced visuals, including improved lighting, textures, and sound, all of which contribute to a more immersive experience. The atmospheric environments are beautifully rendered, drawing players into the eerie world of the UAC facility on Mars. The attention to detail truly enhances the sense of dread and suspense that the game is known for.
BFG Edition also includes the original DOOM 3 campaign, along with its expansions, “Resurrection of Evil” and “The Lost Mission.” This provides players with a wealth of content and a chance to explore the entire narrative arc of the series. The expansions introduce new gameplay elements and challenges, ensuring that even seasoned players will find something fresh and engaging.
The gameplay mechanics remain faithful to the original while benefiting from some quality-of-life improvements. One of the standout features is the ability to carry more weapons, allowing for greater flexibility in combat. The use of the flashlight has also been refined, eliminating the frustrating necessity of juggling between light and weapon. This change enhances the fluidity of gameplay, allowing players to focus more on the action.
Combat in BFG Edition is as exhilarating as ever, with a wide array of weapons at your disposal, including the iconic shotgun and the formidable BFG. Each encounter is intense, requiring players to employ strategy and skill to survive against the relentless waves of demons. The game expertly balances exploration, puzzle-solving, and action, creating a well-rounded experience that keeps players engaged.
The sound design in DOOM 3: BFG Edition is another highlight. The chilling soundtrack and unsettling audio cues immerse players in the dark atmosphere, making every encounter feel impactful. The audio enhances the horror elements, pulling players deeper into the terrifying narrative.
In summary, DOOM 3: BFG Edition is a fantastic tribute to a classic title that successfully modernizes the experience without losing its essence. With enhanced graphics, additional content, and improved gameplay mechanics, it offers a thrilling journey for both newcomers and returning fans. Whether you're looking to experience the terror of the UAC facility for the first time or revisit the horrors of DOOM 3, this edition delivers an unforgettable adventure that stands the test of time. Prepare for an intense ride filled with heart-pounding action and spine-tingling moments!
Pretty fun game, strays a little far from the normal DOOM formula but I don't think that makes this a bad game, it's just a bit different.

The campaign overstays it's welcome a bit but it's still fun to play. I think it still holds up even for it's time. Just wish it had more quality of life improvements. Such as the options for subtitles for those of us that are hard of hearing.
I do hope they remake this. Because I really do want this game to connect to the original story somehow. DOOM 3 is good. It also amps the horror aspect for doom as well. I couldn't tell you how many times were I didn't want to go into a room, walk through a hall way, or Go through a portal Just be jump scared by a head spider or flying babies.
So yeah good game all-around.
I got this back in the day for free, when the BFG Edition came out. Since myself and others who already owned Doom 3 for steam. Having said that, is it good? Yeah kind of. The target audience for this are console gamers and it shows. the menu system feels like meant for controllers in mind even on PC. It comes with doom 1, doom 2, and doom 3, along with all the expansions up to that point. Including a new expansion for doom 3, the lost mission. Doom 1 and 2 are great, its just doom 3 people may or may not like. as its not as much of a run and gun, and more of a survival horror flow of combat. The lost mission is okay, just nice extra content. Think of it as Half life 2's lost coast. doesnt add a whole lot and you arent missing anything if you skip it.
For new Doom players who may want to play the older games without mods, then get this. For older doom players and new players who want mod support. Then stick with the stand alone versions. Also there is a mod for doom 3 to add in the lost mission.
I will admit that I admire this title in the DOOM franchise, which concentrates on the horrifying aspects of the daemonic universe in which it takes place. However, technically speaking, DOOM 3's design lacks the necessary damage feedback to make combat satisfying and justify having a low battery life flashlight in a video game wherein the environments have two options—dim and pitch black.
Combat-wise, no matter what difficulty players choose, enemies take way more bullets to kill than what they're worth. Even headshots require up to 3 bullets to kill even the simplest of enemies like zombies and imps, and these especially become onerous when the game sends armed, respawning enemies when players linger in an area for more than 30 seconds. Because many areas have locked containers that require a code, which can only be found in collectible audio logs, players will have to choose between backtracking to an area and facing up to 6 enemies on the way there or progressing on with the story. At the very least, games like Bioshock have enough breathing room and visibility to justify respawning enemies. And, as a plus, they do not automatically track the player and require them to be alert before they can engage the player.
Although it is generous to include two other games, most people will be concentrating on what is advertised (DOOM 3) so some may be taken aback when they find they've more than what they initially wanted. Overall, for $10, this product is not bad in terms of pricing and quality, but it is difficult for me to recommend it to contemporary players who expect more bang for their buck.
Game is Meh. Level is design is abysmal but it's a short and easy run through. Amazing to see how much of an improvement Doom (2016) is.
Very good for a modern playthrough, but I recommend using a mod to restore some of the things the old game did better, like the flashlight and cutscenes.
The black sheep of the Doom franchise. I played this on the steam deck, and I did find it overall enjoyable from start to finish. I appreciated the angle they took on this game, and while it’s not the version of Doom I’d prefer I still recommend it to those are curious on seeing a different perspective.
I found this to be a good sequel to Doom. The game is both fun and challenging with the different types of enemies you fight against throughout the game. It challenging on how difficult the game is and there's limit health throughout. Some parts of the game is frustrating on how you keep going back and forth and it gets repetitive.
Overall, it's a fun sequel to play through.
DOOM in horror mode
''The Only Thing You Fear Is Them.''
Pretty decent game, definitely not the best doom game by far. I wanted to like it more than I actually do, but it's still a good time regardless.
Odd controls on controlled but otherwise superior gameplay to standard edition
somehow it feels like my tabletop board-game version of this game is Better than this
not only doesthis three pack come with 3 doom games plus thier dlc, bu from my expierience all game work excllently on the deck onc you turn on the gamepad template
As someone who only ever played the original Resurrection of Evil and never the main Doom 3 campaign, it was certainly a blast finally playing the "modern" BFG edition years down the line. While the game certainly is enjoyable as a classic run and gun FPS, there are some things worth mentioning which I noticed from the original.
The first is the amount of ammo and difficulty (or lack thereof) in the game. Gone are the original campaign days of ammo conservation. There is practically NO caution required in the modern BFG edition. You are literally showered with ammo, to the point where you will be swapping weapons just to try and consume ammo packs lying around. I always recall the original game as requiring a bit of resource management, but this is certainly not the case. If I ever had to play BFG edition again, I'd recommend you use your "Big Guns" whenever you can, because otherwise you'll just pass the game without ever really getting a chance to use them due to lack of necessity.
The second is the flashlight, that acts a traditional push button light. Incredibly, it seems they discovered sticky-tape on Mars, and we now no longer have to specifically swap to the light to navigate dark places (and this game is VERY dark, if you aren't aware).
Lastly, though minor - there seems to be sections missing from the original level layout. I can only speak for Resurrection of Evil, but I distinctly recall an arena like cavern stage in the final Hell based sections of the game, which is not present in the BFG edition. It's a minor alteration, but definitely something I noticed.
To wrap up, it's a great run and gun shooter. There's no subtitles (that I could find), but Doom is so light on story, there's really not much to miss. Lastly, like all other reviewers have pointed out - there are so many "enemies behind doors / walls / teleporting in behind you every 5 m" that it almost does become all too repetitive. As long as you're fine with that, you'll find a classic shooter that ticks all the boxes for a great experience.
Cannot get this game to launch with any known fixes or tricks mentioned online. A digital paperweight.
This game is still great almost 20 years later.
I played through The core game, ROE, and lost missions as well a some multiplayer with my Steam Deck. Absolutely no issues and ran flawlessly without tweaking any graphic settings.
I did however have to change the in game controls to a controller and then change the settings of my steam deck to game-pad to get the best performance out of a controller layout.
it's fun but the enemies are bullshit
A terrifying reimagining of the classic shooter, blending intense action with survival horror. Set in a dark, claustrophobic Mars base, you’ll face relentless demons while managing limited ammo and constant jump scares. With its eerie atmosphere and heart-pounding combat, Doom 3 is a chilling trip to hell and back!
Doom 3 received a ton of backlash from the play base when it released and is still derided by many to this day but its one of my favorite Doom games of all time. Its the only Doom game that actually feels like a game and not just a long series of battles.
Legendary! Doom 3 will always be the one of the best corridor actions created by humans.
This game is beautiful and terrifying. I jumped multiple times during all my playthroughs. Sure, it can be a little bit cheap at times, but first impressions always matter. The ambience and sound design is wonderful, I love every noise and sound this game makes. The visuals also are pretty damn great.
Some people complain about this version of the game being easier than the OG, but in my case it actually enhances what annoyed me before. Heavily recommend trying this game at least once, it's fun.
Love this take on DOOM.
Never mind the classic Dooms in this edition - there are far superior ways to experience those games. Doom 3 BFG Edition is the most convenient and casual iteration of Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil. The lighter environments, more readily available health and armor, and easier flashlight enables faster gameplay and Steam Deck viability as compared to the original. The BFG Edition doesn't quite match the frightening awe of the Doom 3 back in 2004, especially in the earlier levels, but enhances the more demon-laden latter levels. ROE and Lost Mission are natural and great follow-ups to the Doom 3 main campaign though the BFG Edition makes ROE too easy. Doom 3 as a whole should still engage newer gamers - even if it's not the graphic juggernaut as it once was, Doom 3 still touts an incredible atmosphere, tantalizing demon designs and the super shotgun.
Perfect bundle for someone who enjoys the classic Doom titles. Includes all DLC as well
The shortest summary of this game goes as follows: This classic game makes for a decent game, but not a great entry in the doom series.
There are elements from Doom 1 & 2 that make it's way into the gameplay loop and design of Doom 3, but overall it is much different from what modern audiences see out of the original two games, especially with Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal. Doom 3 is far more horror focused than any other entry of the series, barring maybe Doom 64. Granted, the original two games had horror elements and many moments that were meant to surprise the player or raise great suspense, such as dark halls with a large amount of spectres, or the floor suddenly lowering to reveal a room full of enemies. Even with these elements, both retrospectively and with modern expectations, the classic games offer a more action-packed vibe, with electric guitars and ripoff Alice In Chains MIDIs. So what does Doom 3 offer?
Doom 3 offers scares and suspense. The guns you are given are, quite frankly, weak compared to the bullet sponges you will be fighting during the game, and in this way they contribute to a sense of urgency and helplessness. The story is... present, though a large chunk of the story world building is present through e-mails and voice logs you pick up. Reading through some spooky lore after a particularly stressful fight can be a good way to calm down, but it can quickly feel tedious to get yet another set of e-mails you have to skim through on the off chance there's a code to a nearby locker in it, or let the voice logs play in the background so you can only pay as much attention as is needed to hear the three numbers you need to access lockers. This might feel a bit pessimistic, and I admit that maybe it'll work for you in a way it doesn't for me, but I still personally feel that it can get rather tedious.
Simply, it's still fun. If you want a more action and strategy oriented Doom game, pick up any of the other entries in the series. That isn't to say that this game doesn't have action or strategy, but it is to point out you can find all that in higher qualities by simply searching elsewhere in the series. If you really want to go play Doom but grittier and... well, in a very literal sense, darker, go play Quake.
Pick this game up on a sale, and play the original version, not the BFG Edtion (though I must say that I'm very glad that you get both when you purchase the game.). Even if you don't go through the whole game, it's still fairly worth spending a little time on. The game is dated, sure, you can tell that as soon as you launch the game since you can count the pixels on the splashscreens, but it's nice to go back to a period of time where a bunch of new lighting and physics effects were brand new, and were being flaunted to the fullest, usually as main focuses of the gameplay. The dynamic between having to swap between the flashlight and your other weapons is at times annoying, but also exhilarating, and honestly the game probably wouldn't have been made into a horror game if it weren't for Id wanting to show off their lighting and physics systems. It doesn't come off gimmicky, it feels charming. It holds up a bit today, and it may not hold up forever, but it's Doom 3. It's kinda cheesy and dumb, but it was all still made with a lot of love. Pick it up for a few bucks, get a mod so you can run it on a decent resolution, and just mess around for a bit. Then go back to the original games. GLHF!
