Very nice game with stunning visuals , it feels like you are playing a movie , not the best game play design but still very good.

Quiet an underrated gem! Fabulous graphics that still stands out 11 years later. Game combat can feel repetitive at times. But has a great story and cut scenes.

Fantastic game still holds up and the multiplayer is somewhat active.

Fantastic! This gem has sat in my library for way too long! I'm glad to have played it, it was a bit buggy, but for being a 11 year old game its worth looking past it and playing through it! Will have to come back again and replay it.

Although the story is not long, it took me only 5.8 hours to complete, but overall the story is great, the combat mechanism is great and considering it came out in 2014 the graphics is way ahead of its time, I totally recommend it to play.

This game was ahead of its time graphically and still looks amazing. The game play is fun and the campaign is good. It is on the short side, but if you have a friend who plays multiplayer is also fun. Would highly recommend this game to anyone.

As a Roman fanboy I bought this game years ago and have quietly sat on it until I finally decided to give it a spin over the Christmas break. Holy shizzle, do I feel like a fool for sitting on it for so long.

This is a fantastic game. Visually it is a very good looking game which holds up even now in 2024 which isn't too surprising given this was a headliner game for the Xbox One back in the day and had orgasmic graphics for the time, the combat is fast paced and exciting and the execution-system is really fun once you get into the swing of it. I really enjoyed the story as well, Marius is a good protagonist who we learn and grow with, both mechanically and story-ly as the missions progress, and the story isn't half bad either, it's a good story, the plot has serious and dark moments that are treated and done nicely and treats you like an adult with subject matter, and all around it's just a really fun game. Getting to march in step with my legionaries, form a testudo and then break and start lobbing pilums at the barbarian hordes is such a treat to do.

I absolutely can recommend picking this up, if you're a fan of a good hack and slash in Roman times. I ran through the game the first time on the 2nd difficulty to get to grips on it, and immediately started a new run on the highest difficulty because why the heck not. And though it has been ten years since and Crytek probably has no interest in creating a sequel to this gem, I would love to see a sequel to this game.

A really fun game graphics are ahead of its time and the fighting system is good and well designed. The story is a little short but a fun and enjoyable story. The throwing system isnt the best and could be alot better & the movement is a bit sluggish and could be alot smoother and the climbing system could be better aswell or maybe and jumping into the game. But overall would fully recommended it anyone for a 2013 game it still good today. 8/10

A nice hack 'n slash game, with a nice little story, good gameplay, and good combat. Keeps you going, and definitely well made. Finished a single run in around 6 hours, and unless you either want to go for higher difficulties or do all the collectables, it shouldn't take you much longer either.

Its a small story but honestly a good one! A solid game with very good graphics, the music combine perfectly and making the scenes even better. The mechanics are ok, some times confusing , it takes some time to get used on how to fight. I recommend to buy this game on sale mostly bcs of the size of it but its for sure a must play game. Loved it.

And honey, let's be real, the gladiators in this game are hot. I mean, have you seen Marius? He's a total snack. And don't even get me started on the other gladiators. They're all so muscular and sweaty. It's enough to make a queen swoon.
So if you're looking for a game with some eye candy, Ryse is definitely the way to go. You won't be disappointed.

This game feels like a classic macho action movie, historical inaccuracies and all. The "feel" of being the Roman legionnaire is captured perfectly despite all that.

The story is fairly straightforward, in that same action movie style, and sometimes that just feels refreshing even if some of it is a bit cringe. The graphics are great even today. The big set pieces and varied locations keep the game feeling fresh. The pacing is great as the game doesn't overstay its welcome.

The combat does get very repetitive, and the boss fights especially at the end are uninspired. There is one where you literally fight the same enemy 3 times, just whittling down their health bar 3 times only to see it replenish and have to fight them again, no extra moves, no changes in their attack pattern, just fight them the same way as before. Again. To top it off, their moveset literally requires you to dodge for about 30 seconds to a minute before you can land a strike. So the boss fight lasts about 20 minutes simply because you have to keep rolling around and wait for them to get through the unblockable animations. This more than anything drags the game down, and I remember one of the times I've replayed this, I just quit once I got to the boring boss fights.

There is also no built-in way to change control-mapping. This was a big issue for me coming from the Arkham and Mordor games where X is attack, Y is block, etc. This game's native control scheme threw off my rhythm, but I was able to remap it through Steam, I just had to remember that the button prompts in-game were no longer accurate for some things.

Despite that, I've revisited this game 3 times over the last few years, which actually surprised me. Sometimes you just want a high-adrenaline, high-testosterone linear action game, and this is that. It doesn't try to be an RPG. It doesn't try to cater to every kind of player. And that's probably why I've come back to it when it's been long enough that I ask myself "Huh, was that Ryse: Son of Rome game any good?"

It felt like the good old times, when Games were fun and simple :D

Used to fixes, using fixing solutions, after all, it's a phenomenon it has been going on various games for twenty years.
However I've been trying to run this game for ten years and I can't play it. Solutions just don't work. One shouldn't been using "fixes" in the first place.
Why should I, as a player, bother in 2024 to fix a game with such a lousy technical mess? Total disaster.

nonstop frame drops , repetitive gameplay. Frame drops were so bad that i was forced to play with lock in 30 fps . It didnt matter whatsoever what i changed in the settings,people online had the same issue. The story was annoying too with the nonstop time jumps. Game felt like half life 1 in a way cause they copy pasted the same 4 enemy models. So it looked like i was massacering the same 4 guys for hundreds of times

Loved this game, cool story and simple yet engaging combat

It's beautiful, but it might as well be a David Cage game with the Simon Says gameplay. I'd actually prefer a walking simulator, honestly. It would cut out the dozens of fights with the same 3 or 4 enemies. Yes, this 6 hour game (on hard mode [which isn't hard]) has filler. Don't get me started on the story. I knew this wasn't going to be a historically accurate action masterpiece, but I was at least hoping for a bootleg Gladiator movie video game. What I actually got was short bus God of War. Steam Deck performance leaves a lot to be desired to be considered 'verified'.

The graphics are spectacular for a 2013 game, it must have been the best graphics at that time. The game was a little difficult initially because I kept dying because I didn't know the Health regeneration and Focus techniques. Once I figured it out, the game was easy and fun. Killing dozens of enemies with identical faces and bodies felt like grinding but the game was short enough to keep it interesting.

Gameplay is excessively simple and moviegame-like but combat is nevertheless smooth and satisfying. Visually speaking, it looks and runs better than most AAA games today. The story has ahistorical noble savage self-criticism being expressed by centurions.

I cant express my word for this game. i started and playing and cant stop. what a great story with awesome combat. and executions OMG. this game story is short but full of entertain. you did not get bore. main character is too good and how they portrait him is really amazing. I don't know why i played this in 2024, wish i played before when its released. game cinematic videos are old because its old game. Hope they make this type game again. last thing its easily beat lots of AAA titles now days. Hats off to DEVS.

This game could have been more .... I dont know what happen it became a routine hack and slash , the story was good and graphics were amazing when it came out and it stood the test of time , crytek and cry engine is amazing i have no doubt it produces amazing graphics and too optimized . The combat was pretty repetative it was fun for 20 min then every model of enemy is same and enemy varitey was pretty limited .

Quite short, very easy but so many quicktime events which makes sense for a game that came out in 2014. Graphics still hold up and story is interesting enough to get through it. Completed the game in under 8 hours.

Worth it if you get it on sale - it's short, and will easily kill an afternoon for you. It's just the right length to not drag on and turn into a slog, as the combat would start to get VERY stale otherwise.

So horribly optimized, that even on modern hardware, struggles to maintain 60fps @ 1440p ultrawide. (Ryzen 7 7800x3d, RTX 4090, 64gb of ddr5 wit h 6000MT/s)

It's a solid, simple game and a good port. Story, aesthetics, game mechanics, all very roman in flavor. It isn't a game likely to wow you, especially if you like roman stuff, and its been a decade since this was a launch title, but it's a dang fun over the shoulder melee game. Like Gears of War with a sword.

Wow I have to start with saying, I am not sure if I happen to just go into this game with the right mindset or what but I enjoyed this game a ton. I haven't played this game since it originally released and I am happily surprised to say I enjoyed it as much if not more this time around. I'm a sucker for Roman themed games and the combat is simple yet satisfying with the execution variations you can unlock. While overall the game could have been written better and polished over here and there, I don't see it needing it as I had a blast and it still holds up great. I also really enjoy the gladiator portion of the game and easily one of the best ideas they could have had for the game to have extra content. Graphically, I was very surprised how great it looks with high settings. Sure not the best there is but great all the same. The characters encountered throughout the story were written pretty good and epic moments and scenes delivered from decent to awesome. Some moments were a slight drag but nothing that made me even contemplate of putting it down for a even second. I was fully hooked with my sword and shield ready to charge into the next fray and take revenge and save Rome!

If you are looking for a game for quick fun, brutal executions, and immerse into the Roman theme I highly recommend.

Good game with a good story, great voice acting, and graphics that are genuinely impressive even in 2024, which is kind of mind blowing considering when this game released. The combat itself is fun, simple, yet repetitive, but not repetitive enough to where it out-stays its welcome as the main story is pretty short. The multiplayer is very fun and people are actually still playing online to this day. Game is easily worth $20, but its on sale constantly for like $4 which is a total steal. Just know aside from multiplayer, there is very little replay value within the main campaign after a great first play through.

For me, Ryse: Son of Rome is a game with a good story that everyone born in 90s are familiar with and it has simple but pleasing gaming mechanics once mastered. You can finish the main story in a weekend and consider it a time well-spent. This is the most linear game flow I've experienced in a long time so that might be a turn-off for those who seek more liberty. Visuals are still satisfactory even if you compare it with more recent titles. I've only experienced the campaign mode of it so I cannot evaluate the multiplayer aspect of it.

Damn. I picked this up on sale for 3$ and man what a great game. The combo system reminds me of DMC and I'm really enjoying it. Maybe be my favorite game ive played this year in terms of cost per enjoyment.

I played this game on it's original release in 2013, for hours upon hours. I love it. Everything this game wanted to do, it did so great. It's a very underrated game because it released same day as the Xbox One and in a window with a lot of heavy hitting games. GTAV, Assassin Creed Black Flag, Battlefield 4, CoD Ghosts, Dead Rising 3. In a different year, this game would have been given more love I choose to believe.
It's a Hack n Slash, similar to Assassins Creed/Batman Arkham games, but more linear map design and you can't fly around the map by attacking like Batman. It has some unique controlling the NPC moments and back on the Xbox you could use the kinect to make the orders. I would recommend to anyone that wants a fun game to hack, parry, and execute Barbarians and Romans alike. In an exciting story of Grief, Tragedy, Swordsmanship, and Revenge.
