I really wanna play this game but... It doesn't seem to work on Nvedia GPU it's a bug which some of your might experience where the game doesn't go above 30 fps basically it doesn't use your GPU instead it uses your integrated graphics
Even if you force use your GPU from Nvedia control pannel it doesn't work
SO yeah Im refunding this game but I really wish If I could play this. Shame
MASTERPIECE IN PURE CINIEMATIC ACTION GAMES! "PACED" BETTER THAN GOD OF WAR
There is absolutely nothing like this game which is a heart pumping period action movie like game. The Art/Graphics excellent acting to this day are unmatched even 11 years later. The animations rival those found in the modern god war games and the simple yet impactfull story compliments the action rather than slowing it down. This is what an Action should be.
A pity there is no sequel it has massive potential.
Holy Emperor this game is fun! I can't believe how good it looks too, when I saw it came out 11 years ago I was both gagged and gooped. People report performance issues but I followed the tweak guide on pcgamingwiki for the game and it's running like a dream for me. For £2 it's a total gem

Note: It was basically a Tech Demo for the Xbox One when it came out, but honestly kinda fun. What saves this game the most is that it's short so it balances the surprisingly good story and writing with the mediocre gameplay so that in the end it became a somewhat decent time.
game design is mostly immature, but great art design and good cinematic action for a day
the story is very good! eventhough the ending was a bit weird. but i will recommend this one. Voice acting and cutscenes are superb!
good and short combat game, would recommend.
Very fun but it's also very short but will definitely recommend giving it a try!
For a considerably old game, Ryse: Son of Rome is way ahead of its time. I still feel the game's visuals are far superior to those of AAA games today. The story and combat mechanics were fantastic, and I enjoyed the sound design and music too. I don't think there's much to say besides the fact that you need to try this out when you get the chance as it will keep you entertained and engaged until the end.
Not the longest story in any way but one of the greatest i ever seen.
Playing this gave me so much joy that everytime i think about the roman empire my little time playing this game comes to mind and gives me joy once more.
Its so great that i even write a recession in english.
Just done my third playthrough such a fun game great story great combat buy!
It's an old game, and it easily crash if your Windows's version is Win 10 and higher(Mine Win11,no matter campaign or multiplayer it still crash randomly). If you knew about the actual historic characters of Nero,Commodus and Boudicca, you will find this game really hilarious, most of the events are extremelyly historic inaccurate.
But,whatever,this is my childhood,and i really love this game."THIS IS MY HOUSE,WHERE I'M THE E M P E R O R!!!!"
Finished the game before I got it on Steam.
This feels like an epic interactive movie with graphics to match, a great storyline and an even better fighting system. It never felt so satisfying and powerful slashing barbarians (and romans, but won't spoil too much).
Grant yourself this 10 - 15 hour adventure, you've earned it!
The ultimate incel power-fantasy game.
And that's not bad: it's satisfying to feel like a feared badass warrior.
Combat is kinda primitive, but it requires some skill and the game is too short for it to start being annoying.
The main advantage of this game is graphics: it looks awesome even now, 12 (!!!) years after the release. It won't even look that outdated if it was released today, but for such an old game it's just fantastic.
Facial animations do feel a bit stiff sometimes though. Variety in enemy/friendly NPCs would've been also great - you start to notice that they're all the same like in the first 15 minutes of the game. It's not a big deal, but it looks funny, especially because you always see these faces close up when you perform executions.
The plot is fine, and although the main character is a bit blank, he's sympathetic nonetheless. At the end of the game you feel very badass delivering vengeance to his enemies. But the game is really short - 6 hours at best - and maybe for its' own good.
It has some notes and other collectible items like comics, but they're meh - couldn't care less for them, even though I love collectibles in games. Exploration is just not fun enough in this game to do all this stuff - and the plot rushes forward without any time to look around really.
Overall this is a fun and very cinematic short game that is dirt cheap on sale - definitely worth trying out.
the story is great and the executions are very brutal. the graphics hold up amazing for a 2014 game. the only downside is the multiplayer is dead so you better have friends if you want to play it.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!? yes i am very entertained
Firstly, this game is absolute cinema. The gameplay is brutally good, and the graphics are insane. The story is incredibly cinematic. The combat feels like the Batman: Arkham series, making you feel like a Roman superhero as you cut down your enemies one by one. The executions are stunning—this game makes killing look like an art form. Bashing enemies with the shield makes you feel like Captain America.
Though short and repetitive at times, Ryse: Son of Rome delivers an unforgettable experience with its spectacle and engaging combat.
8/10
Ryse is a tour de force of a game.
Get this game. It's the full package. Action? Gladiators? Roman soldiers? Barbarians? Sexy women? Colosseum? This game has it! Ryse is also one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen, even today. The gameplay's solid and fun. The plot's pretty good and well done for the most part.
Even better? If you have a buddy, you can play the multiplayer mode. Who doesn't love that? Really if you ever needed another good reason? This game is fun in multiplayer. Like super fun in multiplayer. This is where this game truly shines. You play multiplayer, can perform tag team attacks, earn new gear and just having a good time in the Colosseum! Now that's fun and worth it.
Ryse: Son of Rome is a underrated gem with so much potential for a awesome sequel.
Get this game. It's the full deal with a decent price.
Plus it has a fun multiplayer mode so you can play with your buddies. What have you to lose?
I first played Ryse: Son of Rome when it released on Xbox over 11 almost 12 years ago, and Im roughly just over 50% of the way to complete it on steam now too, it’s still an exceptional experience. Even after more than a decade, this game remains a shining example of what great design, storytelling, and action can achieve.
The world of ancient Rome feels alive and immersive, and it’s easy to get lost in the stunningly crafted arenas, majestic architecture, and atmospheric settings. The cinematic presentation is on another level, with the story unfolding like a thrilling, interactive movie.
Granted, of course the Graphics arent impecable anymore, but they are still amazing over a decade later, The combat mechanics, which are a core part of the game, are just as satisfying now as they were back then. while the finishing moves remain as brutal and satisfying as ever. The game may not offer the same level of depth in terms of gameplay variety as others in the genre, but it makes up for that with intensity and cinematic quality.
The story itself is gripping and emotional, centering around Marius Titus, a soldier driven by vengeance and honor. The narrative, which combines personal vendetta with larger historical events, does a great job of immersing you in the Roman Empire’s world.
Replaying Ryse: Son of Rome on PC has been more than just a nostalgia trip, it’s reaffirmed that this game still holds up in every aspect a game should. It’s a cinematic, action-packed journey with impressive visuals, tight combat, and a compelling story. If you haven’t played it yet, or if it’s been a while, I highly recommend revisiting it. It remains one of the best action games that captures the essence of ancient Rome in such an unforgettable way.
I truly cant wait to continue playing and completing the story yet again on PC, i usually state remasters can be a quick cash grab for studios, but considering this game is almost 12 years old, im highly believing myself its deserving of a remaster, or a graphic overhaul atleast, Maybe one better, a sequel or possibly a spin off that takes everything this game does perfectly with a new implemented story, Maybe even one within a different era.
The mechanics of Brutal finishing moves continue to impress me, the more i play through the story again, i highly recommend playing this game, or revisiting it if you have already played it years ago.
---------------------
Edit - I Completed the Main story campaign, its still as great as i remember from Xbox, Especially the ending scenes,
I highly reccomend this to anyone who enjoys, Gore, Rome Era, Etc
Such an underrated game! Spears, Shields, Swords and your trusty Roman comrades by your side... what else do you need huh? But the truth to be told Single player campaign feels soo short and cramped i guess. on the other hand Co-Op play is sooo freaking awesome. but (yeah there is always a but) there are no more active players to play co op.
would i recommend this game to others? Abso-Fking-lutely. Find yourself a trusty friend to play Co op. That's where true fun lies.
Romans are strong Together. (did you see what i did there. I replaced the word Apes with Romans. :P)
Wow I was super impressed by this game. With it being made in 2014 the graphics are really good and the game play is fun. I normally don't leave reviews but I felt that the developers and others should know that this game is great. The story line is fun to follow as well. I am looking forward to seeing if the developers are in the works for a part 2 or something similar. I would recommend this game hands down.
A great, good old linear game. I really enjoyed combat - the moments you switch from 1v1 to be a centurion - nice!
Graphics is fantastic if you think how old this game is. Rome is stunning. CRYTEK ENGINE WAS A MASTERPIECE, PERIOD.
Great story line, was in my back log for years. Beat it in under 6 hours which would be my only complaint
Fun game, story is abit short, only took me like 10h, but its a fun gameplay worth replaying so its ok.
Its abit comfusing with the key-commands at times, but after a few trys you get it.
Something that is incredible is the fact that graffics, story and gameplay is better that alot of new games today over 10 years after realease.
Totally worth trying out.
Muito bom!
A história e as batalhas são muito boas. Os gráficos envelheceram bem também.
I never thought this game was going to be so good. I'm playing in 2025, and Ryse Son Of Rome came out in 2014. I didn't expect the game to be so visually good. I would 100 percent recommend this game. The sounds are awesome, this game has the right amount of cut scenes to make it feel like you are watching a movie. Really a great job of everyone that had their hands on making this game.
awesome story, good combat, animations are a bit janky but over all love roman wafare so it was a blast to play
great game, great story. hope you like quick time events. Besides having to dig thru Nvidia control panel and fiddle with settings for it to run smoothly, great game overall
Awesome game, story keeps you hooked and the graphics are great.
für 12 Jahre altes spiel sehr gute Qualität
Story und Aktion ist top.
Great Story, Great combat mechanics. Altogether an amazing game!
Great game I remember getting this game on my Xbox one and I loved it. I love games like these and hope they make more similar ones in the future.
For years I had been interested in this game, but I never played it, never had a compatible system. In the end, I got the game for $10 and for that price I would recommend it. It is very repetitive, but in a way that makes a gamer feel badass. I tried the first half of the game with keyboard and mouse, but it was clunky and I did not enjoy it, so I grabbed my PS5 DualSense Edge and had to load a custom profile, but the controller was infinitely better to play with. The story seems to take a lot from Gladiator, but it was rather underwhelming for me. I did enjoy the game, but I also just wanted it to be over with. It took me 8.4 hours, but I was trying to 100% the game in the beginning and you can't skip the cutscenes, which is extremely annoying. Boss fights were really weak and tedious, especially at the end. I don't know, I'd give it a 6 out of ten, it looks really good.
Darth Vader might have the best hallway scene in any movie scene ever, but Marius without a doubt has the best hallway scene in any game ever. Ryse is an awesome game. While some people complain about how it feels like a "giant cutscene," I both disagree and agree at the same time, and entirely for the better. The game's story is really good (although it is just ripped from one of the best movies ever made, but good nonetheless), and the combat makes you feel like the main character, so those two go hand in hand. Very briefly on the combat, while not hard, I think the whole quick time system with the (what feels like) hundreds of slow motion executions is super satisfying and ... well ... fun! It always keeps you on your seat and the sprinkled in Tustedo formations and ballista portions help break up the pace. The campaign is a fun 5-10 hour story that is honestly the perfect length. It doesn't drag itself on like most games do, quick, to the point, but high quality.
Very briefly on the multiplayer. While not the main focus of the game, I thought it was expertly done as well! It's really fun to team up with a friend (or solo) in tons of different variations of the Colosseum, with the same unique combat system as before. The graphics really shine here, and I think despite being from 2014, this game has some of the best I have seen in any game ever. It is worth picking up for the hallway scene alone (one of the best moments in any game), but overall, the parts of the game compliment each other really well and make for a fun experience. 25 hours well spent for any fan of the Roman Empire (which should be all of us :) ).
loved it back in the day just as good now with the graphics updates. would love if they continued this story.
amazing game even tho its very old. Gameplay is very short but worth it.
This game is honestly the most fun I've had in a long time. The multiplayer is still active, and the campaign is very investing. (Despite not being all the historically accurate, as Nero reigned 300 years before barbarians raided Rome in its empire form) The combat and skill tree systems are amazing and fun, and the visuals are stunning. The character dialogue is great, too. I've already recommended this to some of my friends. 10/10, please play!
Short, fun game to play, nice graphics. The story is not original in any way and follow classic narrative about evil Caesar Nero. The Rome is beautiful and I was thinking for myself that it would be nice to have a game with open world, where you can explore ancient Rome. This is not the game as everything is really straightforward run and combo. The end is a bit more pathetic for me. But overall I enjoyed it.
played on PC (Xbox one launch title). still looks great. linear and fun with controller. didn't run super well on PC. combat and executions were cool.
Loved it. This is one of the only games that I would play through multiple times and I have. It's such a shame that there isn't a sequel because this game is an amazing starting point and they could really improve in the sequels. It is a little gimmicky (I think that's the word): enemies are easy to kill, even on legendary difficulties, though that may be because I've played it so much, and stronger ones just have you do a specific thing such as dodge and attack or block a series of attacks. In conclusion, great game, play it, love it, live it and beg for a sequel.
Good story, amazing gameplay. Graphics way ahead of its time.
wonderful story based game. feel the roman way of war
Historical Rome, fight against barbarians with a cool story. So, what's not to like?
Fairly shallow but entertaining, outstanding graphics (still!) and worth playing now that it should be able to run without melting your PC.
Although the game was released in 2014, it remains legendary in terms of gameplay, story, epic combat, and graphics. I hope a new part will be released.
It seems quite evident that this game was made for the Xbox Kinect or something similar.
Pros:
-Visuals are great.
-Combat is somewhat intuitive.
-The hook of the story is great!
Cons:
-Plays like a demo.
-Story is WAY too short. Once you get past the first act, it feels rushed.
-Level maps are far too small.
-Each act of the story is painfully short
-No open world exploration
-Collectibles aren't satisfying
This game had potential if it was given far more attention and patience than it got from development. Each act should've been longer, to the tune of hours rather than minutes. Exploring the map does not feel fulfilling. The phalanx formations and siege tactics should have had more frequent use. The story, again, far too short and deserved hours upon hours of more content. This could have been an amazing game, Game of the Year even. If it was the producer, the publisher or someone else cutting corners to just get a product on the market, shame on you. This game deserved so much more.
Very nice game with stunning visuals , it feels like you are playing a movie , not the best game play design but still very good.
Quiet an underrated gem! Fabulous graphics that still stands out 11 years later. Game combat can feel repetitive at times. But has a great story and cut scenes.
Fantastic game still holds up and the multiplayer is somewhat active.
Linear game with great graphics that still hold up today considering this game was from 2013.
Story is decent but short.
Game play is fun, but the executions get repetitive fast.
Simple, serviceable story. Fun, albeit slightly repetitive combat. Great visuals. Good challenge on higher difficulty. and for 10$ and ten years old? This looks and plays better than a lot of modern games.
