Battlezone 98 Redux

Still the best FPS/Strategy game ever

A well made proof of concept game that's been remastered. It's decent, but you'll find it trying if you've never played it back when it released. Battlezone: Combat Commander (Battlezone 2) is much more realized. If you're interested I recommend looking there first for a smoother experience.

Positives:
- Unusual gameplay.
- Steam Workshop support.

Notes:
- The built in controller support does not work very well. Luckily, it does work with Steam controller support, so you can use that to supplement it & get it working properly.

The main game has aged well, has an Cold War NASApunk aesthetic that I haven't seen anywhere else.

The expansions aren't great, bad scripting and mission design make it a slog of trial and error instead of a fulfilling and engaging experience.

This is classic that has been redone, and it plays amazing. Its not easy

I played this game back when it was first released long ago, was the first internet based game that hooked me. Loved the game, loved the story, loved the hover tanks!

I love this game due to the nostalgia of playing original. Nostalgia aside, it's darn fun with great replay ability. Changing up the difficulty is scaled nicely. Top 5 funnest campaigns in my personal opinion.

this game is the star epic Battlezone, made for the man to enjoy tactic. battle forces is what you can expect from team combat force integration, made for man to enjoy the possibility of Space War. did you know you can concquer the communist action of Battle forces int he zone of space? that's what you can expect in this star master series (game) known as Zone o0f Battle!

Just absolutely get yourself a strategy guide, because it is HARD.

The best strategy game lives on. Learning all the old tricks for 25 years ago.

Like the strategy MPI maps. Basebuilder game. The tanks run out of ammo and armor quickly, but it is the same for your enemies. You have to adapt.

I mean, it's definitely not the original Battle Zone arcade but, I mean it kinda gets the job done... I guess.

been playing since the 90's

This was one of the first real video games I played as a kid and I have a lot of fond memories playing it with my Dad. It is the best fusion of RTS and FPS I have ever seen and has a surprisingly good story. The game play may be a little clunky but it has such a rich late 90's style that is only visually improved upon in this redux without making the game to "new"

It is still to this day pleasing to pay both graphically and physics wise. I had this game original from the box on disk before all this digital download stuff. Played it to death, got real good at playing it and got even better and fighting other players online. Only pvp game I could make some serious kills in. I still enjoy paying it. back then we didn't have hackers, coders, cheats.. just straight up fighting with real skill and heart. It plays great, graphics for it's age are still very good, Missions are entertaining enough and fight sequences are still real good.

this is a game that everyone should play.

amazing story telling wrapped around the scenarios and I'm pretty sure I bought & played this off CD before Steam existed.
I am interested in playing this one again in this here modern age!

A must for any collector and also finish the single player campaign it is super.

Uhm also isn't this one of the first games that let you get in & out of vehicles???. I think so!

An ancient but great game!

Great combination of FPS and RTS gameplay. Entertaining story concepts as well.

I've been playing this game since I was a child. It is a hidden gem from the 90's and early 00's. In my humble opinion, it is the best combination of FPS and RTS I've ever played.

It's an fps rts. Pretty much the first one I can think of, and pretty awesome. Kinda like planet.... er forgot the whole name... but more fun.

The unit behaviour is exploitable, and the opponent cheats like a bandit, but it is fun. Nothing else scratches the same itch in 2024.

The game runs well on my Windows 11 PC. A solid 4/5, if you like the sub-genre, and aren't addicted to graphics, and are prepared to tolerate the old school unit jankiness.

This is one of the best strategy games ever developed. It is AOE2 in space!

A masterful combination of strategy and action combat, where you get to fight things personally. A wonder of game mechanics for it's time back when the original was released.

One of my favorite games of all time

Literally can't beat the last American Mission because even though I blow up the enemy transport, the game still complains that I didn't blow it up in time on my way back to base.
