The galaxy is at war - the Federation, the Coalition, the Outer Rim systems and the criminal Syndicate battle for control. It's a dangerous life for a pilot on the front lines, but it can also be a lucrative one - are you an honest trader, or does smuggling illegal goods sound more profitable? A fun little time killer from my younger years long before steam. I played the other versions since 3, i think. I wouldn't buy it for full price (10+$) its maybe a 2$ to 5$ or the whole DLC pack + game for 10$
(DO NOT BUY THE INVASION DLC as of posting there is a bug in the main story-line that hard stall's the game, at least it did for me. Warrior Within Quest Showdown 1 upon arrival you only receive one prompt and the second End task level hard stalls the game with a "cannot find file" error)
TLDR
Lacks depth but its charming. You have to find your combat loop and stick to it. Game is best when your at Corvette or Cruiser level. gets old in Destroyer plus size's, battle's overstay their welcome. early grind is fun, but earning 10m credits for the largest ship is tedious unless you take Smuggler start.
TLDR
Balance pain points
Limited Trait\skill options. Each Career start has a different skill tree, okay cool right? Yea... Smuggler is just the best, Smuggling things in a game called Smugglers being the best Career.. who's surprised? Mission income sucks compared to Smuggling in a Warzone, being the primary issue. Why fight something worth 120k when you can just sneak past and make 300k? or WAY more.
Additionally the Developer has chosen to lock the Factory and Pirate Base (Battleship also i believe) behind Skill progression. which locks your choice of Career based on what you want to do in the end. not where you want to start from. You can't buy a factory without starting from the Trader start, Similarly with Smuggler start and Pirate base.
I say all of this just to form a perspective of the game. it isn't bad for what it is, a "solo" developer doing their best. Just don't expect to much from it, and you'll have a good time.

Was bored, dug this out in my library to see what made teen me buy this. Could not play due to the outright hostile UI. Zero optimization for any screens bigger than about 1366x768, everything is tiny. No graphics settings. Deafening music, no way to adjust it other than turning it off. Cherry on top: description of one of the factions uses CSA quotes, and IIRC they are presented as the good guys, or at least not very evil. Verdict: terribly outdated in more ways than one.
