Описание

MechRunner is an endless action game that casts you as a powerful mech in stunning cinematic battles against a relentless robotic army.

Game Story

On June 30th, 1908 a mysterious explosion took place over the Tunguska River in Siberia, Russia that wiped out trees and wildlife for over 800 square miles. To this day it remains the largest “impact event” in our planet’s recorded history.

In the years that followed, dozens of scientific expeditions to the site attempted to explain the disaster but failed to come to any conclusions. In the mid-1940s however, a team of scientists from the Russian secret service visiting the site stumbled upon the wreckage of an alien spacecraft containing technology that far exceeded our own. In the years that followed, the KGB set to work harnessing this mysterious new power source and created a new secret weapons program - The Division of Advanced Weaponry or "O.S.O."

They thought they could control the new power they’d discovered, but it began to do more than run their machines. It began to drive the men working on it mad. The man in charge of the O.S.O., General Yuri Petrakoff, seemed particularly affected and on April 14th, 1949, Petrakoff launched a full scale assault on Europe.

One of Petrakoff’s lead engineers, Jesper Teterev, went AWOL and left the program early, wary of what was happening there. He went to live in secret with his sister, Isabel and niece, Allison. While in hiding however, Jesper (with the help of budding engineer and pilot Allison) was busy building his own mechanized war machine, called the XP-41, certain it may be needed one day to stave off the O.S.O.'s evil creations. He was right.

Gameplay

MechRunner is an endless-style action game mixed with fast and furious mode-changing mech action!

It is a "runner" in that the player is constantly moving forward while tracking down lethal O.S.O. forces but what makes it special is that you’re piloting a giant robot capable of some serious destruction! Other endless runners feature action elements, but none like this. Heat seeking missiles, heavy caliber bullets, laser cannons, and concussion bombs meet destructible buildings, debris littered streets, and tons of slice-able enemies to create a fast paced, visually stunning experience!

A typical game may take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes to play. The higher your skill, the longer the game, the more rewards you will collect, and the more content you will unlock!

Good concept, good presentation, bad implementation.
Mechrunner is a rail-shooter/runner game that entails driving a robot/tank transformer through various locations while shooting at various stuff.

When you have a game built around a fast paced gameplay, such in the runner genre, you expect controls to be simple and/or flow easily. The controls in this are a mess. While you can rebind then, it doesn't solve the underlying issue of them just being awkward.

Such as, having to constantly mash the shooting buttons to fire, you can't just hold down the trigger, because that gives you a charged shot that isn't nearly as effective as just rapid firing. Which, the rapid firing then results in not being able to play longer than a few minutes because you're just going to cramp your fingers by repeatedly trying to shoot while also moving at high speed trying to dodge stuff.

Map designs are mostly decent to look at and decently well designed, except that the hit boxes on mech when trying to dodge around objects seem massive, because while the sprite may appear to not be in the way, you end up hitting it anyway. Never mind that you'll have a literal wall fall across the entire roadway leaving you no choice but to take damage since you can't jump over, only dodge left/right.

Plus, you have items and enemies, literally spawning inside/on-top-of obstacles with no way to reach them. Which, in the case of an enemy, if they're in it, they can't move and you can't hit them. And since it's a rail shooter, you can't progress until it dies, which can ruin an otherwise great run because it leaves you no choice but to quit the session or hope 1 of the enemy shots can hit you so you can die and keep whatever you earned on that run.

To add to that, it's not well optimized for PC, or multiple screens for that matter.

If you're using a keyboard and mouse, the mouse is not locked to the app even in full screen, so, namely in robot mode, you end up moving off screen and randomly clicking other things because you're still trying to shoot at the same time. And if you happen to want to use a gamepad, the game will still only present the controls to you for the keyboard leaving you to manually keep looking up the controls to figure out what they are.

There are also a number of different weapons you can equip which you can individually upgrade, but the different weapons are more just replacements rather than alternatives and the individual upgrades barely make a difference, so you end up only just saving up to buy the highest end weapon for each slot and then just individually upgrade those, which take forever because they're also level locked as well as cash locked.

Achievements are straight up broken. They will work for the 'medals' in-game, but Steam Achievements will not unlock as it seems they were never properly implemented when released, so expect to see a big fat 0% next to the game no matter how much you play it.

With all this said, while the game looks cool, there are just too many problems to give it a positive recommendation. Considering the developer barely scraped by on the game's kickstarter with multiple delays and cancellations on certain promises, it's not surprising that this turned out as bad as it did.

I like Mechs. I like Runners. I do not like MechRunner.

I thought this game looked awesome from some clips of it and especially the screenshots, so I'm disappointed that actually playing it isn't an enjoyable experience, if not a complete mess.

Whereas other runner games are fluid and you can rapidly dodge or take out enemies while racking up a ton of points, I found this to be incredibly clunky with a strange stop/go/stop/go gameplay to clumsily line up shots at enemies who are obstructing your path from you progressing past them, which kills most all of the momentum and enjoyment of swiftly dealing with enemies when the controls and abilities themselves seem pretty weak or inaccurate to do much with.

I imagine you can unlock better abilities later but the game seemed to want the player to grind the same areas and enemies in order to unlock the cooler stuff you could later customize your mech with. However, what I had used of the mech's equipment all felt pretty bland and some of the enemies also felt incredibly generic i.e. "mini tanks" just plinking away at you with no real standout effects. The game when I played it didn't seem to have any massive boss type encounters as you might expect to find in other mech games, instead you're just kind of skating along dilapidated streets, stopping intermittently to plink away at the boring enemies and then be stopped again to do the same thing a few seconds later.

Seeing its asking price right now (and I had gotten it on sale) I don't find myself likely to recommend anyone else bother to spend their time or money with this -even diehard mech fans-as it's more of a chore to play and its effects and overall pace are pretty wack.

Has a very steep learning curve. Be sure to check out the controls in the menu first. Very fast. Very fun.

It would be an ok game as a phone app but that about it. Very dissappointed with the product and waist of money, hopefully they are kind enough to refund.

You have to play this game to appreciate it. Its a fun mashup of racing and shooter. First off its a rail shooter, you are essentially driving ahead whether you like it or not, dodging junk piles and shooting things, its a really cool concept executed nicely. Once you have encountered a boss, then and only then you stop, shooting out power thingies that power the bosses shields should be your first priority, after that you can lay waste to him. The graphics are amazing! Pretty decent movement and controls, took a bit to get used to tho. I never heard of this game until I got a drop from crafting with a 50% off voucher. If you like shmups at all, its a must have, its a very unique experience. I have never played a game quite like it and I have been gaming since the 70's.
