Wow just wow.... dont even waste your time trying this crap.... No idea how anything works and I clicked random buttons and just saw cut scenes

I would love playing this game if it wasn't for its lack of widescreen support and aircraft control sensitivity configuration. At least Wings Over Europe is simply playable with a controller after being patched with dgvoodoo and updated with its latest patch.
Played this game 22 years ago on Windows XP, when I was a teenager.
Bought it today, where I am a Linux gamer using proton.
It won't run the way you expect it to (small window, low resolution, config settings potentially not working).
You have to import the typhoon_2000.reg file using regedit if you are on Windows.
After that, the config tool should work and you can configure graphic settings.
If you want higher resolutions than 1024x768, you can edit the typhoon_2000.reg file and import it again.
On Linux using proton:
env WINEPREFIX=/run/media/user/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/283350/pfx /run/media/user/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Proton 8.0/dist/bin regedit
- Import registry key > typhoon_2000.reg
Regarding tutorials:
- If you start the game in peaceful time, you'll have in-game tutorials that teach you to start and land, fly, handle the HUD and so on
Regarding the gameplay:
- You'll choose six pilots as your team.
- The pilots will idle most of the time, if nothing dramatic happens during the day or the night
- Events happen (like enemy ships sighted on the east coast of iceland, landing operations, enemy fighter interception, new sectors conquered, etc)
- Mission briefings will be held
- Mission will be planned (you can edit the mission plan to carry specific weapons in a specific amount (for example if you want more torpedos against ships or air to ground missiles against tanks)
- After that, you will start the mission, fly from waypoint to waypoint.
- When the enemy is within range of your weapons, you can lock onto them and fire the missile.
- There's a missile camera, that will follow the missile so you can see, if you landed a hit
- If the enemy comes too close, dog fighting is possible using the machine gun
- When all your missiles are fired, you can open the radio menu and request a vector to your airport
- Prepare the landing as shown in the tutorial, lower the wheels, trigger the air brake and land
It's a good game for the time around 2000 and I can recommend it for the nostalgia.
If you want something a bit more arcady and modern, I can recommend Ace Combat Skies Unknown
