This game fundamentally SUCKS!
I am absolutely baffled by the Very Positive review rating at the time of this review! X3: Terran Conflict, is an absolute bore and chore to play. And what conflict, I wonder, is even present within the game? 90% of the user experience for this title is spent looking up youtube tutorials on how to do literally anything, followed by moving from one place to another. The combat sucks and has not aged very well in the slightest - I can easily say that doing any combat in this game feels clunky and intuitive. The UI is insufferable to use and look at. It is extremely difficult to say anything positive about this title, and makes the user ask an extremely important question: Why play X3: Terran Conflict over something much more polished like Starsector? Or something that maybe has less strategy involved, but is a lot more fun to actually play like Everspace? There is no reason to not do either of these things at this time. At this time, I have absolutely zero interest in playing this and am annoyed that I am way past the refund window, because I foolishly believed the reviewers and sat on the game for too long in my library before playing. Guess I'm hiding it from view later!
Some users indicated albion prelude has an actual combat focus, guess I'll go find out. But this? This just sucks.
This is the best game in the X series
A space truck driver that can shoot lasers? What can be better?
Started X3 as a junior a long time ago!! Still love it ...
it gives the impression we are flying in outer space..
I'm baffled at the "very positive" rating of this game. The last time I tried was in 2010, I apparently completed "flight school" (according to my achievements). No idea what that means, so I started from scratch.
If you've never played a game like this before: good luck?
There's no in-game tutorial. When you start (with the first character at the top of the list), you're told to follow someone, but you're not told *how* to do so. And then you sit there. And wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. And then there's some radio chatter. And now you're going to Neptune. And you wait. And wait some more. And.... keep waiting.
And we hit a warp gate that gets us to Neptune. And ships are there to fight. So I aim at them, hit max speed. They're 20km away and my weapons have a range of 2km (which seems incredibly short for a space-based weapon, but whatever). So flying towards them. And waiting. And waiting. And waaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg.
After losing my f'ing mind with all the waiting, I clicked through the various menus, and there's some sort of 'time jump'? Which gets me into combat. I shoot down a ship. And then I get blown up, and it's game over.
If you've rated this game positively, I question your evaluation capabilities.
Worth every penny. Would buy this even in 2024!
a few years ago I played on steam os, bought aircraft carrier and tl from splits,
****
now the first minutes of the game - critical freezes, crashes,
thanks for a good game,,,,,
minus for turning off the game on non-windows os
many years ago I uesd to play [ and still do from time to time] X-tension . Terran Conflict is definatly an advanced game from this but not to the point that you cant grab the controls to have a go ! although there are many simularites the overall feel of terran Conflict is definatly next level !!!
I love this game I can't get enough of it. It's an amazing sand box space game where you can make massive fleets of war ships, you can become a massive profitable business owner making and selling weapons and ammunition, energy shields, and basic goods. The game also has a massive story, though the most annoying thing has to be the xenon hub missions because of how long they are.
Buggy.
Many times easy quests paying 1-10k are harder than quests paying 500-1000k.
Main quest is bugged for me, couldn't advance and didn't find info on it either - infiltration question when going back to the base and just have to dock, nothing happens.
Controls are still weird, I played with X:BF first that was way worse, but in this one you can get used to it at least. Or maybe I got used to it more up to this point. Idk, doesn't matter, it's weird.
Some ships are painfully slow even with SETA. I've got all these hours, I could make around 10m, but still couldn't find the decent ships I was looking for (Springblossom or Spitfyre). It was said that it's in a hidden system that you would find if you follow the main quest, but it was bugged for me.
UI is too small - maybe due to the 2k resolution that it doesn't scale up with it - not a huge problem, but noticable, because every menu point is so small.
Some other bugs:
- when asking for permission to land on the station, while the automatic response message is playing, you can't control your ship. Need to headshoot the very tiny X to close the message, to regain the control.
- You can command other ships you own, sometimes when you tell them to follow you, they will fly around 4km from you. Sometimes when you order them to land on a base they fly around the base 4km from there - most places were ok, but I had this issue with a main quest, and it was quite annoying.
- when a main quest message is playing you either skip it or you can't control your ship again - let's say you are closing in to a station then suddenly the programmed character starts talking, but u need to slow down, then you have to skip it and you can't check anywhere what was he saying.
It's not a bad game actually, more like natural to me, but I can get more fun out of many other games, so I just can't really recommend it.
holy crap this, just....wow. Such a magnificent idea, beautifully executed. Just amazing!
doesnt give me a cd key and i need a cd key for their dumbwebsite to play the only mod i got the game for damn
edit: i really dont want to link my steam to your website id really just want to input a cd key
This game is just so buggy. Got stuck on terran mission 6 even using guides trying to complete. And unfortunately, I'd put way too many hours into the early part of the game before realizing how buggy it becomes later on.
I miss these models. Ships in X3 were much nicer than the ships in X4.
