Описание
Создатели игры Homeworld приглашают вас возглавить экспедицию, с которой всё началось. Стратегия 'Deserts of Kharak: A Homeworld Story' сделана студией Blackbird Interactive, состоящей из разработчиков игр Homeworld и Company of Heroes.

Very crisp visuals. I love homeworld lore because of this game and not the space RTS.
Just a really well crafted game. Strategy was core to success and the story was captivating.
No mods
No multiplayer
Campaign is kinda short
If you realy like RTS genre or Homeworld frnachise - go for it. But only at discount proces.
good game
I have enjoyed all the HomeWorld games i have played, haven't tried 3 or Cataclysm yet. Deserts is easier to pick up and play for newer audiences, if you like RTS and Strategy that is.
If unsure,Pick it up on sale to trial.
what kind of mad man put the arrow keys and no zero point setting for mouse on top of zero setting to change key bindings, cant even play cus i lose the mouse constantly, cant even change to a normal mouse either ????
Been playing this game on and off for years to find today that it forces Epic games onto you.
I was planning a re run of homeworld soon too, sure hope that doesn't force an epic install too.
Solid RPG, good story and fun gameplay
Awesome game, big fan
A good prequel.
The campaign is admittedly fairly easy even on the hardest difficulty level. Only the final mission gave me serious issues. Having said that, I'd rather they kept it accessible than just hike the difficulty by giving insane HP and buffs to enemies on higher difficulties. Graphically the game is a pleasure. I love the atmosphere and the aesthetics. As a veteran Homeworld player, I was thrilled to learn about this game's development and have thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the entire release.
reminds me of command and conquer
Great game, decent graphics and awesome soundtrack. If you liked dune 2 and starcraft, you'll like this.
Good game and story. Homeworld 3 must learn something at least from DoK.
I really enjoyed this alot i did not think to have a land base game of this game but the fact they did it makes it alot better it makes a change once in a while going from space to ground i like they added the crashed ships and the land airfield lol
i really loved thje design of the land vehicles specially the main characters car we....the big ass car
the story was good
the details were good
i did not like that you could not zoom all the way in but i did not find the need most of the time like i did in space
overhaul
i don't like that the game is now £2.99 i wish i waited till this game 22/12/2024 but that is out of my hand
10/10
An absolute mood
What a masterpiece!
Great immersive story
Epic soundtrack
Challenging gameplay & mechanics
and most importantly SO MUCH FUN!
There's something here. It's just, not enough. It's like an episode of Secret Level or Love Death And Robots. No campaign editor, very very very limited Custom Game options, and a painfully short campaign that's amazing until it's over. You'll get to spend JUST enough time with the Kapisi to want more time with it. This game and it's aesthetic and setting and what bit of lore there is was able to become my fixation for a moment, and I just don't DO sand or deserts. Can't stand them. But something about THIS, just did it for me. I wish there was more. I'd play more. I'd pay for more. But there's not. I've mixed feelings about it honestly. It is Short. It's here and then it's over. But at least I liked it.
The game is just slow and campaign is too short. The graphic demands for what is shown is poor and tactical advantages are too basic; almost numbers wins. Not recommended unless heavily discounted.
You should play it. It's great.
bit buggy
very enjoyable can be quite irritating at times but i still had fun and enjoyed the story
Veldig bra, jepp jepp
Conclusion
I'm not a fan of Homeworld - Deserts of Kharak -I came back and dabbled with it returning just to finish it. Its totally missable , at best being 7/10 as a strategy game - its 'ok' , but the story really killed it for me, so I'm closer to saying its 5-6/10.
The strategy aspect is decent, but is nothing special.

I did not like:
-It does work as a generic RTS
- it does look good; as far as Sandy world games look
-The ship MOBA was a nice idea and worked ok

Things I do not like about HW-DO[R]K :
-How units work out across board. i.e. smaller ones seemed useless / balance
- The story narrative was just Negative – I hated the story and the way it was perceived
- Battle-chatter is not only not very good , but ruins the RTS game experience
-Some UI decisions – including the above
-Seems the game is half baked
-Why use the Frigate and Cruiser class identifiers for each of these vehicles?

What I liked:
-The HW-DO[R]K is RTS, sure, it works. I'm sure any RTS player could have fun with it.
-In saying that, its a technically good looking game; despite the entire look of the game is,... SAND. It almost looks like its meant to be a prototype.
-I liked how the Flag ship had upgrades and did seem so customisable and adaptable – though I am not as fond of MOBA's as I am suggesting - this is an RTS game.
Things I did not like
balance
-'Strike craft were not very good or balanced, then slap on the larger ships and the tanks, especially the smaller strike craft are not useful at all. Don't get me wrong, if you are playing a large resourcing map, its possible the gliders may be useful, but I am sure, in-particular, for the campaign, they are totally useless. From a passing observation, if the gliders had lower HP and higher damage they could be balanced, which leads me to suggest that the devs did not bother to look at balance.
Same class names as Homeworld in space
-Then why use the same system as Homeworld for tanks? How is a cruiser class the same as vehicles? Why could they not make up a believable- other set of names – it just seemed silly.
story/narrative
-Unfortunately I found the story and narrative to be obnoxious. With the religious/romantic narrative to be contrived and battle chatter and the dialogue to be completely vapid. I found the narrative on the videos to be so bad and vapid, I muted it - I wont play this again to see what they said and I DONT CARE!
Honestly, most of the narrative in the game adds nothing to the game. The Intel officer is the worst. He states the obvious always. I laughed out loud when he told me at the end game " we have never seen this ship before ! Be careful! ". And that is the Intel officer all the game ; not very Intelligent.
-
Battle chatter
Further, the chatter from Homeworld is completely mis-interpreted. Remember when they say "hi" to the resource drop off points? Great wasn't it!? [ its great because not only did you hear him saying hi to a guy - to show the world LIVES!' BUT you learn a resourcer has dropped off his RUs, and they are now looping back to RU deposits again.
On HW-DO[R]K, they are talking about how they "feel bad about something" " ohhh, its so quiet there must be something coming soon"- it says absolutely nothing about what is happening. This is the same for the UI chatter that tells you RU points have been emptied - which is nonsense and just spam, because 1 core area can contain 10 of those RU points, so to clear it, the game will spam that same line 10 TIMES! Its worse than vapid, because it just makes you say " hey I don't care", and ignore everything they said. Then you have to look for when your scavengers are idle, which IMO is wasted APM...Which is brain burn on top of that...
UI
The UI was ok, but I don't think they did as well as the original. At times it feels hard to zoom out enough. There is a soft spot where the UI in game shows you enough, and then the strategic view will then show you enough, without becoming meaningless. HW DO[R]K fails to hit this soft spot imo. Its not bad, but the land view is not high enough as its a standard and this transition between views requires constant orientation which is a chore and is disorientating.
Game seems half baked
Unity is also a good engine too , if they spent enough time tweaking this and working on the concept I am confident BBI ( what a stupid name) would have done something very effective – AND rememberable - its just the game is no where near well thought out enough game-wise.
End notes:
You know what?! I blame 'Take 2' AND Gearbox. This game needs more time in the oven. And at this point in time I hear Homeworld3 was a piece of trash and 'BBC' dont want to support it. Shame on the morons in Take 2 who have trashed yet another IP!
This is done in Unity, which is unexpected – and its pretty good. But some parts just fall short.
I loved the original Homeworld and I lament that passing of the original Homeworld, into the 'pseudo' - remastered Homeworld ; in many cases because the developers did not spend enough time developing it.

been wanting this game for so long
its a great addition to my homeworld colection
Good RTS!
A well made prequel to one of the most ambitious and cult classic RTS games ever made.
Deserts of Kharak serves as a prequel tale, revealing the events which lead up to Homeworld 1.
While ditching the 3d perspective the game series was known for, DOK offers some truly cool and interesting takes on the geography and vista's of Kharak.
If you are a die hard fan of Homeworld, this is truly a no brainer to buy.
This game will keep you busy.
Unable to play after 1.4 Patch, don't buy this.
Epic Online Services are installed and break the game unless you're online.
Good game overall. Once you start the first two missions, you get hooked.
its was my intro into the series and i loves it to me its more like a classic RTS but i still love the others games just not as much as this
I like this game just wish there was a lot morie like this and Homeworld to say from them that made it you see.
campaign could be better its alright but not great. kinda bare for game modes too. just standard skirmish and the mediocre campaign. great concept though.
i suck at RTS but this game is good
Ashoka Carrier Arrival moment still gave me chills... 10/10 unexpectedly smooth transition from 3D Space to Desert RTS..
The campaign is good but short. Wish they would realize how few people want this for multiplayer vs single player... homeworld 3 is making the same mistakes.
Even years later after its release still a carrier full of fun.
If you want a fun RTS campaign then this is for you! I didn't bother with multiplayer at the time of this review so cannot recommend the DLC.
A fun little campaign with cool mechanics. Get it on sale because the player base at this point is long gone.
The game itself has a nice story, looks nice and plays well, the only gripe I have is that I can not zoom out far enough to fully enjoy the map and units.
Certain maps can feel a bit unfair with constant enemy spawns moving in while losing units, but for those missions one just has to mine up before triggering the waves and then quickly try to complete the objectives to limit the number of enemies coming in.
If you can find it on sale, it is a nice prequel to homeworld 1 and 2 (like a nice snack due to not being able to zoom out far enough) and from what I've seen a better story then 3.
Very nice game, solid mecanics and very interesting story.
,.,...,
This is one of my favorite Homeword games. I love the setting of Dune. It's a shame that it's too short.
Very good prequel to the series.
Upon running the game. It auto installs EPIC Game store.
I DONT WANT EPIC ON MY MACHINE!!
I already have DRM on my computer with Steam. Why do i need to have DRM that activates more DRM in order to play a game i paid for years ago.
This EPIC BS wasnt here last time i installed the game.
Steam... seriously, why?
Surely you as the DRM on the games i own is more than enough.
Launchers, DRMS, accounts, passwords, Ad infinitum... taking up storage, memory, time.
I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE GAMES I FKN PAID FOR!............VIA STEAM!
Pretty nice, immersive RTS marred by crashing issues especially on the 3rd mission. Can't finish that mission without save scrumming as the game would randomly crash especially on intense moments where you need to quickly pan your screen and select multiple units.
Awesome game. I wish there was more single player campaign and story!
It's fun, very reminiscent of the good ol' Command & Conquer series. The negatives:
- Short campaign
- weak skirmish section, few maps to pick from
- You can't change shortcut keys (!) so if you're on a 60% keyboard you might miss out on important functions.
- The game will launch offline but you can't play offline, not even skirmish mode because everything is cloud-based.
Not worth the full price but at €5 I really can't complain. Wouldn't recommend buying at full price tho.
only bad thing is the view controls and thats it. sadly no one is playing multiplayer anymore or its small groups but its a lot of fun. wish that they let us do full ai battles but hey thats not what this is for.
Very good campaing with a very nice story and gameplay, but skirmish sometimes had some bugs.
