Creeper World 3: Cellular automata takes over a strategy simulation.
Instead of discrete units that attack your base, a fluid-like substance spreads over the terraformable terrain. Your base, your weapons, your strategy... you must adapt them all.Creeper World 3 bends what it means to be a strategy title.
Instead of heavily scripted A.I., players find themselves engaging an enemy with theoretically predictable behavior yet which is shockingly interesting to engage. Players can build fortifications and stick around forever. Players can go for domination, quick strategic kills, or amass huge stockpiles of resources. Some play for speed, others to create art. Tiny maps, large maps, five minute missions, five day missions... the simulation scales to handle all of these scenarios.User generated content is critical and supported at multiple levels in Creeper World 3.
Dial up worlds using the DMD (Dial Map Device) and tweak dozens of constraints. Then, play and share the addresses via an on-line database. Create your own maps using the built-in map editor and upload and share on-line. Or, join with thousands of other players and peruse the databases of worlds created by others. Want to create a new weapon, a unit, an enemy, or an effect? Use the built in scripting language to create what you dream. Hundreds of engine commands are exposed and examples abound on the forums and grow daily. You can even take the built in story maps and make your own. In fact, all of the built in story missions were written using the built-in editor and the CRPL scripting language. Some of the high level features are:
- Thermodynamic/fluid physics based play.
- Billions of total missions.
- Story arc with insane and unique enemies.
- Explore hundreds of star systems with thousands of worlds in Prospector missions.
- Hundreds of hand crafted missions in the Alpha Sector.
- Dial up your own mission worlds using the 'Dial Map Device' and share the address.
- Create your own maps using the included map editor.
- Play on maps of variable size, dimension, and shape.
- Script your own enemies and effects using the built in scripting language.
- Terraform the landscape during missions to take the higher ground.
- Discover experimental weapons that devastate the enemy.
- Share thousands of unique maps with an established, enthusiastic on-line community.
- Features a unique, original, and awesome soundtrack.

very very addicting and simple to get into
after being introduced to the series with the demo for 4 i thought the 2d would be a downgrade but this game does everything so well.
Im glad that you're able to randomly generate levels, i can see myself sinking many hours in the future just with that feature
the story is interesting as well, an official wiki exists but some parts of it are broken sadly :(
You can at least catch up on the story of 1 and 2 there before jumping into 3 if you care about it but its not necessary as the most important plot points are explained
As good as any of the top-down ones or the 3D one. Perfect games. Haven't played the side-view ones.
It's ok, kind of a neutral for me. Not very exciting TBH.
For some reason, despite being old, it is addictive and fun throughout!
10/10 - great td, it just works
I just realized I've been negative reviewing the creeper games I dont' like... so I probably should give positive review for the good ones.
This is, imho, the best game of a truly unique series. enjoyed it.
Endlessly fun game for playing while listening to music and relaxing
Tower Defence distilled to its simplest form. One of the best around.
I have played the earlier games as well and this is a fun game. Can be quite challenging but the campaign is well balanced. A good TD/RTS game.
One of the best tower defense games
woke up from a nap and now everyone i knew is long dead and my living room is filled with blue pirania solution. never sleeping on the couch again.
In my opinion the best game in the creeper world set (although the other ones are also fun!), also worth to check the player made levels and all the extra levels
It is a bit addictive though....
Good game, just what you need for a chill experience.
Great game, classic of the flash era and tons of fun
Many recommended I play Creeper World 4. I decided to try an older 2D one first. Not regretting my choice.
Hard but fun.
fun game for turning my brain of for an hour or so
Creeper World 3: Arc Eternal was the first game of the series that I've played (Long before I bought it on Steam) and I have just noticed that while I did 100% it, I didn't get around to actually reviewing it which I take as an inexcusable sin due to how great this game is so it's time to right my mistake!
Creeper World as a series is a strategical tower defense RTS game, you know the type. The big difference here however is that while other games have you fight AI, in this game you are fighting a continuous flood of destructive fluid. Across all the games in the series you are always fighting this unrelenting fluid that allows the player to have an innate understanding of how the enemy works! Pair that with needing land-area to produce energy needed to power turrets and other machinery that keeps the Creeper at bay and you have this great puzzle that is new, yet very familiar.
As with any game of this type, there's 2 ways you can play it: You can either rush things before the Creeper can spread or you can turtle up as you gain a foothold and slowly take back parts of the map and quite literally turn the tide.
This third installment has polished and perfected it's gameplay and if you're just thinking of getting into Creeper World and want to start somewhere, PLEASE start from the first game. Due to me seeing and playing the third one, when I went back to the first one, it was a pure downgrade (Which it IS supposed to be. It's 2 games back!) and I didn't find it as engaging because I already had a taste of the expanded possibilities of this one.
I'm a turtle through and through and I easily spent 45 minutes to an hour fighting some of the later levels and the time just flew by! If that sounds like something you enjoy, I really recommend giving the whole series a try!
Creeper World
Hidden gem.
I've not completed this yet, but i have played through the 1st, 2nd and 4th games already. It feels very close to the 4th game.
This is a remake of the first game, much nicer graphics and an interesting presentation style of the level, almost like a board game. You are at a stalemate with the "Creep" and have to find a way to use your resources to win. My recommendation is you plant down as many Collectors before starting the game, save it, and use constant use of the pause button.
The mission select reminds me of Lylat Wars for the N64 or Sins of the Solar Empire, very cool!
game is good until you get to the level with the Prism ship. the game basically says "go to hell" and spawn camps you till it completes the ship then says "ha, we destroy this entire system!" and game over.
Yes.
One of the few games which always delivers.
I'm new to Creeper games, so this is the first I'm playing. And I'm loving it. There is something strangely satisfying in grinding your enemy down systematically, even when it's already clear that the level is won and victory is only a matter of time.
Picked up the game on sale and figured I'd just take a peek. 20 hours later (with only a small break for sleep) I had finished the campaign.
The game is such a well executed tower defense. Although most maps require you to take territory and push into an objective, so "tower offence" is probably more accurate. Every map is unique and introduces new mechanics or situations, and I genuinely don't think I was ever bored or felt like the game was being repetitive.
The game does tend to under explain things, so there were a few maps that I had to restart once I understood how some new thing worked. But the maps are short enough to where that wasn't a huge deal.
This is the quintessential Creeper World experience. Clean graphics, engaging strategy gameplay, and polished to a high shine. I can't recommend this enough.
excellent tower defence game, like all knuckle cracker games what really makes it special s the ingenuity of the player created mods taking it from a simple tower defence to full on puzzle game. I prefer this to 4 but only just as they are both amazing games
kill water
I can tell that there's a good game in here. Maybe even great. Unfortunately the game is extremely dated, and would have felt dated even in its release year of 2014. If you're okay with fighting against very poor and dated UX, then there's a good chance you'll enjoy this. If I was made aware of the many limitations of the game, I would never have purchased.
- There is no UI scaling, so if you're playing at resolutions higher than 1080p, you're going to have a very hard time reading anything. There are ways around this, but they make the game look and feel worse to play.
- There don't appear to be any tool tips to clarify the UI, so starting out feels needlessly confusing.
- There doesn't appear to be any shortcut keys to select defenses quickly and easily making the game feel sluggish and inefficient to play.
- The tutorial seems to leave out information. I found myself confused about how build speed is limited.
- The game is also locked at 30FPS.
The overall user experience is very poor. It feels like the game is fighting against me even before I start a level. It's the kind of thing I could probably tolerate for a while but would eventually lead to me just dropping the game.
This is the kind of game I would return to if it were remade with modern design sensibilities in mind.
-_-
Game so good I pirated in 2017, bought in Dec 2021.
Absolute Cinema.
Every creeper world game is good, but this is the GOAT imo. Soundtrack is a banger as well.
One of the most enjoyable fluid dynamic systems, pleasant graphics, and fun strategy games.
The Creeper World formula refined to perfection.
The game mechanics are intuitive and satisfying, the story is interesting, the levels are fun and usually include secret challenges, there's a ton of content included with the game and the community made content introduces new game types, units and thousands of hours worth of new maps.
If I had to choose only one game to keep out of every game I own, this would be it.
Creeper World is one of the best TD series, if not outright the best, i've ever played.
Recency bias plays into it a bit, but there's something very unique in how the levels play out and also the strategies you can employ at your disposal. It's not like you're following a path, you can choose to turtle up with defensive walls or go in hard and fast with efficient and perfect placement, ending a level quickly.
178 hours, I've gotten 100% achievements.
Albeit, the last 200 or so of the Prospector Zone I cheesed a little by just getting the AoO only. However, at this point, i've made over 100 levels of my own, completed the campaign, did some of the hardest maps in the game, played a lot of the community maps (Play as Creeper is great!) and then did over 250+ extra levels on top of that. There's so much content I could be here another 170 hours if I wanted but I think it's time to wrap it up and start preparing mentally for their next game.
Fantastic.
good, basically the same as creeper 4, but 2D, lower resolution setting to scale up text
Simple base-building concept and so much fun!
I love the creeper world games. This one is very difficult in later stages but even if you can't complete the campaign there's enough content in the downloadable maps to have a lot of fun.
Never ending exelence!
Do not be misled by the time played. I poured untold hours into the non-steam version of this game when I was a teenager/college student. I have moved on, but my heart has not. Nothing else would suffice to break in a new computer. (And, finally I can get those steam achievements I suggested on the forum an entire decade ago! Better late than never, I suppose.)
This is the video game ever. I wish IXE a resounding success.

Amazing Game, Blast to come back and play time and time again
<3
Good
better than CW1, please let me have my blasters back
GREAT GAETAININGME VERY DIVERSE AND INTERTAIING
I like tower defense games. The Creeper World games feel like tower defense games plus a city building game. There are so many factors to consider. The terrain, the economy, the types of enemies, etc. I really like this game, even though the second game is my favorite, this one has more variety.
Peak Tower Defense.
very satisfying. seems to have a lot of gameplay, but I think I got it on sell for 3-5 bucks so I've already gotten my moneys worth. Great game, seems like some great devs
As an avid fan of all things tower defense, I was really hoping this title would have something for me to really enjoy. To sink my teeth into. While I can't say that it doesn't have any redeeming qualities whatsoever, I can see that it's appeal is quite limited and definitely doesn't enter into my idea of fun.
From my point of view, Creeper World three is akin to building train sets. The challenge and fun is in seeing the finished product. Creeper world is about connecting nodes to defense towers in real time. The towers don't level up. The currency to build things isn't a concern. It's fun to see everything on the screen, but there's no real game or challenge to it.
A game like this would probably work decently enough with more resource management and a turn-based or wave system.
fun and unique game
