Half-Life: Source

As always, a fantastic game that gives a good story-line. Makes you really "feel" like Gordon Freeman 8)

It's not all that terrible, just download a fix mod made by the community.
I love that beautiful lighting from the Source Engine, but some parts are just not suitable for this kind of lighting. The Realistic Water looks good but it just turns terrible in Surface Tension, Giving it a weird brownish milk like substance.

It's not bad, just needs a few community fixes and most likely Workshop support. Other than the bugs like the "Floating Scientist" (which can be fixed with a community patch), its pretty good.

its half life on Source engine. + a lot of minor bugs like floating scientists. And there's one specific gamebreaking one in residue processing. Its great cous you can use HL1 Assets in Gmod.

Skybox tended to distort toward the player model in certain maps, obscuring surroundings. Basically unplayable.

Now, before you get extremely mad at me, just hear me out.

Half-Life Source is not that bad. Sure, it's got overly glossy materials in some areas, and has some visual bugs at certain points, but as long as you finish the classic half-life first before playing this, then I think it's worth getting.

If you haven't got original half-life and are thinking of getting this for the first time instead of classic half-life DON'T!!! Though that's unlikely since this game is delisted now. I got this game in the full half-life pack with BS and OF {The expansions} This game was just an extra, honestly, worth it. This game is madly overhated. If you've played half life, you should try it.

This is probably the worst way to experience the original Half Life. It's extremely buggy, with graphical effects warping constantly depending on the level. The enemies that hang on the ceiling have their tongues disappear randomly, so you get caught by them with no way to avoid it. All the new models look even more like lifeless diseased corpses than before. Everyone legit looks like they are suffering from Leukemia. The weapon shine is also pretty horrible. Play the original instead or Black Mesa if dated graphics bother you.

if you get mods from gamebanana, the game is actually very great, 100X more customizable than the original half life in my opinion, just mods are limited online so its sometimes best to make your own. there are many mods that fix the bugs that make this game so hated, and they are easy to install and honestly ive had more fun here than in half life goldsrc

I dont think its as bad as people say, it looks good, graphically its a sort of semi-model HD mod.. but other than that its rlly not that good of a game, worth it if you wanna try an obscure Half Life version though.

I got softlocked in the first 15 minutes because I got stuck inside of a scientist, that about sums up the quality of this game. I can't really see any reason to play this version of Half-Life over the original in any way. The only benefit to owning it is being able to use the assets in GMod, but that's kinda it. Sure you can fix most of the glitches and issues with mods, but why even bother when there's another version of the game that's already fixed? There's a charm to it though, the ragdolls are funny and all of its quirks make it an interesting experience. I would only recommend getting the game when it's heavily discounted if you want to experience its weirdness and have its assets available in GMod, but otherwise if you want to actually experience Half-Life, then just play the original.

Makes perfect sense why they delisted this game. I honestly originally thought this was the go-to-way to play Half-Life, but there are far better ways to play this game such as the astounding fan one being Black Mesa. I would tell you not to buy Source, but Valve is already doing that for me.

It's only worth it for seeing the glitches. Theres a good reason they hid this game

there are some glitches but it actually runs decently on my m2 macbook unlike hl1. HL1 only worked in Software mode in a window at 45fps max under parallels because parallels doesn't have great opengl support but hl source ran great because it supports DirectX and can run at up to 170fps on parallels.

This game is great. It's a port of Half-Life to the Source Engine, but It's just a direct port though, so it doesn't have any updated models or textures. Anyway, this version of the game has a lot of bugs & glitches, but none of them are game-breaking. However, it does have some improvements over the original game, such as improved lighting & physics. Overall, even though the original game is far superior to this, it's still worth checking out.

Probably the worst way to play Half-Life 1. But it's still fun regardless especially to laugh at the technical issues, and hey it's still fun and even has some good things in it. The Ragdolls are hilarious like in most Source Games, the arms sway while running like in Half-Life 2, which is a nice touch. But that's about it, if you are a fan of Half-Life I actually recommend it cause it's really funny, but if you're looking to get into the series, just play the original.

Hls is just original half life, but valve only added source and threw it into trashcan, NOT worth it.

Well, it's an historical game but with a better engine.
It doesn't feel like a huge overhaul, though.
The game remains the same: a great story and level design which, although dated, can be enjoyed to this day.
It's simply one of those games that wrote a piece of history, and should be played just for the sake of it.

Bad but hilarious.

If you're new to Half Life just do not start with Half Life Source just start with the Original title, and Half Life 2. I would only recommend to play it for shits and giggles.

Valve should've just turned this into a free edition that comes with the regular half-life, it's not really worth the actual thing but it feels wrong jsut completely erasing it despite how bad this is.

So This is exactly like Half life in gold source but only in the source engine like half life 2, However this version of the game is not as well maintained as the other versions of half-life one.
I'd still recommend this version up until post Processing or Xen
the former cause the texture in the vats was so glitched that I could barely get through it

The graphics are unique, the gameplay is awesome, bots are sometimes not very smart, but its a nostalgic game that Im playing for the first time after 20 or so years that I've played cs 1.6, ZEN is fucking awesome!! I/m glad that I had to experience it after delaying it for too long, 10/10!! I have high hopes for HL2 now (yep never played it either) I know I know, well at least now I'm getting to it

The game is terrible compared to the original. The most important changes in the game are the update textures and physics. The physics does not help the game, just making some of the parkour more difficult and the textures just don't look good. The largest problem with this game is the amount of bugs. There are so many bugs the game is almost unplayable, get the original instead.

this game is unplayable: in the chapter "we've got hostiles" if go to the elevator, it starts behaving strangely and then a thin layer of metal grid noclips from the wall behind and for some reason decides to squish me to my death. i'd reccomend playing the original rather than this tutorial on how to NOT make a remake of a video game

It actually was a good port before the SteamPipe update. But since then its littered with bugs and glitches. To actually play it properly you have to download "Half-Life: Source Fixed" mod. Still its better to go with the original release even more so after the 20th anniversary update that added more content. Not a bad port, but just left by the devs to rot with new bugs being added to the list as the engine gets updated.

Great that this exists, shame it's literally HL1 thrown into the source engine.

janky but cool game, it really feels like im playing gmod 13 and i downloaded like 50 realism mods and it looks all shiny. ragdolls and funny moments make this game an ok game to try. HOWEVER, i do not recommend this game if you are wanting a real Half-Life experience. so don't think this is VALVe's full potential and just say their game(s) sucks.

Half Life is one of the greatest FPS's of all time and this shoddy source port does not do it justice with its heaps of bugs and its lack of changes make it entirely inferior to the original release. I would only recommend buying this if your either using it with Garry's Mod or if its on sale, other than that, I don't recommend this game. If you're a beginner to this franchise I would first play the original and after try out Black Mesa if you want Half Life with more "modern" graphics.

GOAT game in need of a reboot -remake IMO. The gameplay needs a modern touch. Black Mesa wasn't enough. I could do with better player and weapon handling, visual updates, mainly handling should be better. Same base story is great. The last two bosses were crazy difficult to beat iirc in this game, maybe make em more manageable.

Though I completed the game, but I'd say Source version is pretty bad experience, just overwhelmed with bugs.

Half Life 2 just had its 20 year anniversary update. This update came with some added features to Half Life 2 like a workshop, it also broke this game even more than it was before even though they said they were going to fucking fix.

There's a reason this game is unlisted from the steam store page, it's because Valve know that they're never actually going to fix this game.

The superior version of Half Life where you play as a physicist with physics. People love to hate on what's good because it makes their favourite look bad and there appears to be an odd smear campaign against Source which gained enough prominence that forced Valve to stop supporting this version. Just don't pay attention to the people online, the majority of the "bugs" that people say this version has is fear-mongering and you won't experience it without hacking the game in ways that would make *any* game glitch out.

I don't get why Half-Life: Source is so hated. To be perfectly honest, I like it more than the base Half-Life because of Source's more familiar command system, as well as chapter selection.

Локации по-прежнему цепляют, а атмосфера нагнетается так, что даже мой кот, привыкший к спокойствию, начинает прятаться за диваном при появлении зомби.

Физика в игре — это просто шедевр! Я мог бы часами бросать ящики в мутантов и чувствовать себя при этом как настоящий гений. А когда ты случайно сбиваешь с ног своего напарника, это добавляет игре столько же веселья, сколько и сюжета!

Сюжет, конечно, остается классикой, и я до сих пор мечтаю о том, когда же Гордону Фримену наконец-то дадут нормальный отпуск. Но кто знает, может, в следующий раз он отправится на курорт, где вместо хедкрабов его будут разъедать только комары.

В общем, Half-Life: Source — это та игра, к которой я возвращаюсь снова и снова, как к последнему кусочку пиццы в холодильнике. Она и не идеальна, но когда ты в ней, все недостатки превращаются в отличные истории для друзей. Так что, если вы хотите провести время с настоящей классикой, берите в руки мышь и клавиатуру и погружайтесь в этот безумный мир!

A glitchy buggy version of half-life. HL:S is worse than the original, but still half-life.

This is still very much the classic Half Life nostalgia filled story line FPS you were looking for. It has a few harmless bugs but the comedy and game play is still gold.

I think people are a little overreacting its not as bad as some other bad remasters but It is very weak and buggy compared to every other half life game but think about what the game gave us black mesa a amazing fan game that was made because this "remaster" was so bad people decided to make a remaster better then that. Freeman's mind a web series that was made using half life source. since its on the source engine you can play the full game and mess around with it on gmod. Now im not saying its good its pretty buggy and handled very poorly so much it was unlisted following the 25 anniversary. Buy it if your using it for gmod but if your new to half life just play the original superior version.
