Delightful. I understand completionists may be cranky due to no-longer-active live features, but the base game is still a charming and satisfying puzzler. Go, spider, go!
Be a spider, make webs, catch prey. But there is more to discover.
This game feels incredibly mysterious to me with all the stuff you can find and unlock. Parts are dependent on realtime moon phases, which can keep the mystery alive for quite some time. I struggled to finish it even with walkthroughs.

This game is very well-rounded. The puzzles are difficult, the mystery of Blackbird Estate absolutely pulls you in. It's the only game where I've pulled out a pen and paper, and started drawing diagrams and taking notes to figure out what's going on. The gameplay is fast-paced and strategic, as you plan webs and tackle moving insects. The controls are intuitive. I could listen to the soundtrack for hours. The art and aesthetic is good too.
I've never played anything quite like it. I don't know why the game isn't more popular.
The best spider sim I've ever played. Explore the mystery of the estate and also get invested in the deeper meta-mystery of the game. A shame that it failed to find a wider audience.
Core game-play is fun with the key challenges being exploration of the the unfolding environmental narrative, discovery of secrets and the careful construction of webbing to maximise score.
Spider 2 improves on the formula of the previous game (which I think I only played on iOS) and smooths out a lot of the issues. I'm not a huge fan of the time-of-play differences (levels are different depending on the phase of the moon, the time of day, and whether it's raining or clear) since these effects restrict accomplishing things rather than set the mood or just providing different bonuses. If you like the game, of course, it's just a way of providing more reasons to replay levels, and the game does give you a way to set the conditions.
The story isn't straightforward and told via found objects, paintings, secrets, and background hints. It's pretty nice, though I realize that's not everyone's cup of tea (personally I love it).
The controls (mouse and keyboard for me) worked well. Constructing webs is easy, but you have to plan your moves well ahead of time.
All in all, really nice sequel - too bad there aren't more games like this.
So let me be blunt. I loved playing this game. I love spiders and I played the app that came before this game when I was super young. Playing through it and finding all the clues and secrets is cool and interesting. Here is the big draw back that ruins the game. The developers seem to have closed servers and don't seem to be responding to new players. This game plays around with local weather and daytime settings and you need to play at specific times to allow for clues to be found and progression to occur. Now that the local weather is down and has been for a while, you can no longer use your on methods to "time-travel" and get these clues. You are locked in with the base location and can only change the weather and daytime once each phase of the moon. To final clue and puzzle needs you to play at night when there is a new moon, but only then. As of the day I am making this review, tonight is currently a new moon. I still need 4 other moon phases to unlock the ability to go to the last level, get the super rares bugs there, and finish the final clue, but I can't because I need those moon phases. This means that I have to wait a full 30 days before I can finish the game even though I'm this close to the end of the game. While the idea of using local weather is super cool, making it a requirement for progression was a bad idea. It should have stayed for scoring means only. I was having so much fun until I found out I need to keep a close eye and have a perfect schedule over the next month or else I have to wait another month if I miss something. Would recommend this game unless you just want to make webs and catch bugs. Really disappointed and hoping the developers do something to change this.
At first it might seem to be a child's game. It's actually a challenge, its packed with clues that you will need to accomplish a few of your task. The game makes it a bit more challenging with its ability to go by the moon phase, and your local weather, this makes it a little difficult, also the weather isn't always accurate, but you have options to change the weather and time. So if you can't stay up late, you can adjust the time and play anyway. I have it on my PS4 and my laptop. I've accomplished collecting the death head moth, and all the insects in the hidden cavern beneath the well, so I know it can be done, and by the way, you wont see the well on the map till you finish all your task. The well is the final challenge, but you can play it over as many times as you like as long as the moon phase code stays the same. I'm still working on the Equilateral trophy, got almost all of them on my PS4, some of the sneaky hidden trophies are extremely difficult to find, you have to think outside of the web! Try every nook and cranny, even if you have been there before, go back and look again! Its worth a go! Good Luck!
Be a spider! Solve the mystery!
Cool little spider themed puzzler. Early levels are pretty easy, but the later ones require some strategy. Don't run out of silk! There's different species to unlock. Graphics are artsy. Music is different.
The game is fun and simple. The Moon phase/weather conditions are offputting though. This isn't Animal Crossing, I don't like coming back to games I like to beat them when I'm ready to play. But that is more my problem than the game's. Still a thumbs up.
As someone with a huuuuge case of arachnophobia, I'm having a blast! The element of mystery was what drew me to the game first, but the gameplay in itself is very entertaining so far, the puzzle pieces fits together in surprisingly coherent ways (although I have only gotten to the second mystery, in the windmill) and simply sucks me in as I both try to get every insects, but also find every secrets and clues, though the mill's inside was a bit bugged as I got both clues while stuck on a black screen, I'm still not sure how I came back to the estate map.
Anyway, I can't wait to find out what happens next, how will the next levels force me to weave my web in new ways, and also, what truly happened at the Blackbird estate, so far I can only guess the glowing orb in the vault, and other similar artifacts, has something to do with this sect-like club, as with the very limited knowledge I have, not being aware of their intentions, they do not seem to possess some malicious intent, but the rest of the estate so far mainly is evidence enough that whatever occured to this group was very bad, at least for now it looks like it, maybe my theory will change as I uncover more of the secrets behind this place.
Long story short, the gameplay is interesting and entertaining, I could replay some of the levels for hours non-stop, and while optional, the story is still very interesting to uncover, and I hope to find more secret levels like the vault, this was a very nice surprise and really made me dead set on finding all the clues and solving every mystery of the estate.
Ps : can't wait for the weather mechanic to kick in. It's a heavily raining night now and I played during a somewhat clear day.
This game has couple of great ideas and gimmicks, that some people will absolutely love
and I do understand why they do.
But
Instead of being fascinated by them, it really started piss me off when I can't just play the game without waiting for the right moon phase/weather/time. In modern day's hectic life it's sometimes hard to find the time to enjoy good games, and it's just annoying when the game itself is placing time tables/schedules for you just so that you can even finish it. I would understand this in secrets but the fact you can't even finish it without this gimmick is just frustrating.
And on a side note: In my opinion the game's OST doesn't match the game's atmosphere at all.
Some people will love it, I would like to but what makes this game good for other just made it bad for me.
The presentation of this game is somewhat nice, from their nice mansion map to the interesting pins of every insect you collect. However, the game has this odd disconnect between the gameplay complexity and the features it has within the game. The gameplay itself is based on a very - very barebones concept, making a geometric shape to collect insects. But there are all these obscure features that are added into the game to try to make it more interesting - a day/night cycle so you can try to add some replayability in, a crapload of achievements for very arbitrary actions "attack insects in this exact order" etc.
In short, it attempts to dress up the very, very simple gameplay with extra elements that don't actually make the gameplay more interesting. It's kind of depressing. Your spider moves about very jankily and the aiming is rather unresponsive. The spider jump movement is often awkward.
The game itself is only like 4 hours long. It tries to pad the game out with features like having to play on a different day to get different weather or having a huge number of achievements that are generally unrelated to playing the game in a normal manner. (Seriously? no one wants to spend 3 weeks playing this 4 hour game. Don't pad it out like that.)
The music is weird, you'd expect something atmospheric and somewhat creepy since it's a old-style mansion with all the spooky fixings. However it's this weird drum and bass stuff that doesn't fit the setting.
At this game's heart, it's a simple little puzzle game where you are trying to catch all of the bugs in a level while using as little web as possible.
A layer deeper into the game and you get a bit of a colectathon as well for trying to catch every type of bug some of which only appear on levels at certin times of day or weather.

It's a very nice game, coming from someone who's an extreme arachnophobe. It's simple enough, controls fine enough, and it's pretty entertaining. I think the soundtrack alone is enough reason alone to get it, it's very lovely and makes me a little nostalgic.

You need to do certain actions when real-world weather in your georgaphical location has certain properties (raining, full moon, and so forth), and I'm not kind of pearson to play a game in selective bursts.
But gameplay is very fluid, music is nice, and this game's subplot is very interesting, so I urge you to try it anyway.
OMG, I'm a tiny spider.
As I'm catching different kind of flies, bugs and other insects I witness what happend in this old and spooky mansion. Catching bugs is cool (dofferent bugs needs different techniques), Revealing the story even cooler.
Not to mention that in-game weather changes according to that in your location (as the game says "looking through your window") - this is scary. Looking at the world through spider's lens is exciting!
Music is not good thou. It doesn't add anything to the game theme (neither to spider story nor mansion story).

The game really feels like it just has heart put into it, I'd suggest the crap out of it
I really enjoyed this game to the fulllest. I just love being a spider and crawling through places that you would never notice as a human. Eating all the bugs is very satisfying, especially when you get a bunch of them into one web and then eat them all at once. I just hope they add more levels or something because I feel acomplished now that I've eaten all the insects and gotten the highest score I could on each level. I also solved all the mysteries, and I really enjoy being able to play as different kinds of spders. I'd give it a 7/10 if steam had a good review system. But they dont so I'll recommend it. However, I just hope that they aadd more content soon because I just breezed through all the levels with ease. If they end up adding DLC or more levels or something. Then I'll give it a 10/10.
I love this game. I mean, love, like I want to take it home and snuggle it. The first release of Spider (The Secret of Bryce Manor) is one of my favorites to date, and the changes they've made in the newest release are amazing.
This is a much beefier game than the first. Bryce Manor was more exploratory, and hints of story were revealed as your spider progressed through each section of the house. However, this game has puzzles, levels that can be replayed for different results (and bugs) depending on the time of day and weather. That it uses your local time and weather in the game is, well, nifty. :-) Some of the levels are a real challenge, too. I'm not a hardcore gamer and am making my way through. So, don't be scared.
About the weather, there's also a weather/time machine that you can use periodically. I'm glad they included this because it's not likely to rain in Central Texas anytime soon, and that would mean I'd have to wait weeks to play some of the levels.
As of now, I've already played nearly 8 hours, and I would have played more if it weren't for that pesky job. :-D This game will keep me busy for awhile, and I'm enjoying every minute. Thank you, Tiger Style.
A really cool little game I learned about on r/spiders of reddit. Basically, you play a cute little jumping spider with leaping abilities to put Jordan to shame and the ability to make webs once a geometric pattern of criss crossing silk has been made. You use these webs to catch wandering bugs (many with different AI patterns), such as flies and crickets, while other techniques, such as tackling, are needed to take down hornets. Similarly, these insects give you more silk to work with as your supply is finite. You make use of the web's design and the insects you eat to get points as you clear your way to the next area. Meanwhile, there's secrets to be found throughout the stages as you try to uncover the background story of the manor you're hunting in.
The game is one of those 'easy to learn, hard to master' sorts. You have to plan out the best way to keep your point modifiers high (leaping web from web, instead of touching the ground) and you need to strategize how to make your approach, which is made harder with obstacles, finite resources, and bugs that don't necessarily stay where you want them to. All of this adds up to a surprisingly cerebral game.
Sure, people who don't like spiders or bugs to point of burning their house down and screaming like a little girl miiiight not like the imagery used, but nothing is terribly graphic. The imagery is realistic, but don't expect to see more macabre stuff for the most part. There's really a damn good title to be had here that I don't think will squeam out the nervous crowd too much.
There's a lot to do in this game, from the planning, to figuring out the web physics, finding secrets, unlocking new spider skins(!), and even getting a bestiary of sorts of the insects you've defeated on a small board, where you can see a little information about them. Btw, this game utilizes an option to mirror the local weather and time of day of your ISP's location (assuming you allow it), so you might play in Spider's world during a night time rain storm or on a clear sunny day, given your location. How cool!
I have nothing but good things to say about this title, honestly. I wish the developers the best and hope they make more content for Spider. I think the only thing I can give as constructive criticism is I would have preferred a slightly more involved tutorial for the various mechanics of the game. It can be fine to figure out things on your own but some bugs don't get special descriptions concerning what needs to be done versus others, for example.
