This colourful, gorgeous world is a feast for the eye. Thanks to the great animation you’ll know how Shiny’s feeling at every twist and turn- if he is happy, frightened, tired or angry. This will help you to solve even the toughest of challenges. Remember to use Shiny's glow skilfully; only when he is lit up can his children will follow him, but beware, for this makes him easier prey for his enemies…
Direct gamepad controls, Steam Achievements and Trading Cards top off the whole thing - resulting in a great overall package. Can you reunite Shiny with his family?

I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.
Thank you.
Simple fun & beautiful 10/10
good game
Cute little platformer. I recommend playing with a controller.
It sucked. The screen follows your character and it made me kinda dizzy. Controls are sluggish.
It is not a very fun experience overall.
PS; I've got Super Meat Boy and Spelunky for the same price during steam winter sale. FFS, why is this game even on steam?
Enjoyable at first but the never-ending short music loop is really killing it for me. I would have liked it better if there were more music options. Gameplay is simple and fun but not enough to make me keep in my PC.
Lovely graphics, good for kids. One problem though, better play with a gamepad instead of a mouse, unless you want to keep getting stuck on a level.
Shit
It so much fun with nice graphic and gameplay. ^^
Ugh. This game is a "toilet game". The kind of game you play while on the toilet. It is clearly a bad port of a tablet/phone app and wasn't optimized at all for PC. The input tab on the start "screen" claims to have WASD support but trying to press WASD in the game does nothing (arrow keys too). You have to click to tell where you want the character to go. I'd be okay with it if it was click-and-hold to move the character. But this game requires a click for every little bit. According to Steam, I've only played for five minutes. I'm tolerant of most control schemes as long as I can use the keyboard, but the control scheme is clearly not PC-oriented and the keyboard controls are not functional at all. Don't waste your time or money - there are better games out there.
I suspect a few people, by now, have wondered why such a self-professed "horror nut" as myself has a few games in his Steam library with names like, well, "Shiny The Firefly", to name but one example. The slightly embarrassing answer - though only VERY slightly (I'm pretty shameless) - is that I also have something of a penchant for "cute" and "child-like" things.
Now USUALLY these "child-like" things will also need to be a tad on the spooky and/or violent side - Among the Sleep, Limbo and Little Inferno all spring to mind as personal faves - and therefore have a kind of cross-over, however tenuous, with my more usual tastes. And extremist though I may be, I think I may have actually crossed a bit of a personal line with the game I'm currently reviewing...which is to say...I think that Shiny The Firefly may be just a tad TOO light-hearted and child-like for Yours Truly to handle, even on the most whimsical of days.
You want "cute"? This game has it in spades. Chuck a "sickeningly" in front of that word, and we're getting even closer to the truth. In fact, I'm starting to harbour the vaguest of suspicions that Shiny The Firefly may NOT actually be aimed at 40-year-old man-children such as myself, but rather - inconceivable as this may sound - may even be squarely and solely aimed at KIDS. And I don't even mean "big kids" like myself. I mean, y'know..."kid" kids. Ones under ten years of age, let's say.
All of which might be well and good if I actually HAD any kids of my own, or even nieces or nephews or whatnot. But seeing how bereft I am of ALL of the above, I possibly have no excuse to have ever bought this game; much less an excuse to be playing it ALL BY MYSELF.
Don't get me wrong...this game is actually pretty good. A tad pedantic at times where the controls are concerned - it's perhaps more suited to a tablet and a touch-screen interface than it is to PC and mouse - but certainly by-and-largely "competent". Nothing much wrong with it, basically. Except that IT'S ABOUT A MALE FIREFLY WHO HAS TO GO AROUND "COLLECTING" HIS BABIES.
Is the Universe trying to send me a message here? Have I somehow failed in my God-given task of reproducing my worthless self, and now I have to be digitally derided for my sins?! How did I even end up with a game called Shiny The Freaking Firefly in my Steam library?!? Oh, waitaminute...that's right...I probably bought it cheap in a sale, just out of curiosity, and to further my admittedly paltry ambition of edumacating myself in as wide a variety of gaming styles as possible.
Well, let's consider this mission a success, then: I have now, officially, played a game just a tad too painfully "cute" for my stomach to bear. Damn you, Shiny, you loveable rascal, you!
Verdict: 6/10 (if you're over 30) or 8/10 (if you're under 10).
Shining a bit dull
Rating: Ok
Mobile originated game where you have to rescue your fireflybaby's while navigating through a maze. Moderate graphics in a colourful world with decent music. Nothing special. Casual as hell but can be fun if you are in the mood. Not bad, not good.
Nice graphics but, very simple game. For quiet childs.
This game is quite addictive: simple, goodlooking, nice gameplay, sound & music.
Works good on Linux.
Terribly buggy, especially when using a controller. It's very nearly unplayable.
Silly game with inconvenient control.
This is a fun and addictive little platformer. The graphics are charming and cute, although I wouldn't say it's as good as Pixar (don't know what crack pipe that guy was smoking who said that.)
You play as a firefly (duh) who flys around collecting his babies throughout the level and the objective is to get them to the ending unharmed. In order to complete each stage you don't have to save them all, just as many as each stage says you have to, but if you want to earn a medal then you have to save them all (earning medals unlocks achievements.)
There are three medals in each stage. Earn one for collecting all the coins in each stage, another for saving all the firefly babies and another for completing each stage in a set amount of time. If you want this game to be challenging then you're going to want to collect the medals. Otherwise you'll breeze through this game (maybe not if you're a young kid or you just really suck at these type of games.) It's pretty short with only three worlds with 10 levels and a boss battle in each. I'm already at world 2-4 and that's with going back to collect all the medals. If I didn't care about that I'd probably already be near the end.
But I like I said: Fun. Addictive. Cute.
And it's for all ages!
