Early Beta Access
Welcome to Early Access! For those of you jumping right in, keep a few things in mind:
- Controls are strictly keyboard or controller. Mouse support is available for most menus.
- Achievements and Trading Cards will be implemented soon!
- Many areas are unavailable off the path of the main storyline.
- There's about a 10% chance of an error occurring after saving or loading. The save file is still fine.
- Throughout development we'll constantly add more content, improvements and patches.
- We're planning on allowing restricted access to certain areas to test out mechanics and minigames.
- We're a small team so we may not get to everyone's questions or concerns. We will be reading everything though.
About the Game
When was the last time you played a game, any game really, where you walked into someone's home, nonchalantly opened drawers, cabinets, picked locks, upturned a bed and talked to the freaking homeowner in hopes of finding something you could loot? Oh, right before this game? Yeah I thought so. Aside from more humble games like Skyrim, where you had to steal items instead of taking them, every game that has item management lets you play the bad guy without being the bad guy.Let me tell you something: NPCs hate your guts, they just can't say it to your face! Just cleared a forest of roving bandits? Well they were the only ones keeping a population of meerkats in check. The local farms can't keep them at bay and you've just triggered the worst national food shortage in the past decade. Good job, hero! I think it's time for some payback.
You Are Not The Hero is a 2D Action Platform RPG that ditches the battle system to focus on richer RPG gameplay elements. Instead of playing a traditional hero that saves the world, you're playing a bystander swept into the affairs of heroes and villains alike.
You play as Petula, an unemployed, emotionally charged, ill-tempered, otherwise average young woman. With the royal army hot on their heels, the heroes have made their way to your village where they begin scavenging for supplies in everyone's homes. After you confront them for stealing your pendant, they rush off to continue their quest, giving you a quest of your own to retrieve it.

I ended up buying this game before I realized what the status of it was. It was one of the first games I followed all the way back during my early RPG Maker phase and I even remember playing that original demo that still used the Chibi Sprites and default characters.
I don't know what happened to the game's lead developer to put this game on hold for this long, and I hope they're ok. But I still hold out hope that maybe one day this game will see completion, with or without them.
Good Luck to the development team if you're still out there, waiting to finish this. I wish you the best.
Nothing new here, but having played through all the content there is to offer years ago in 2018, and regularly checking back, there is still nothing new from this game. A shame really, I loved this game's concept.
Cannot Recommend. Dev's haven't updated in over a year, looks like it may be dead
Abandoned game.
This game had a lot of promise and potential, but it was just a scam. This developer should be ashamed of themselves for taking people's hard-earned money and run off with it while never admitting what they did. Shame on Steam for keeping this game up for purchase.
I cannot honestly recommend buying this game right now. Though this might change in the future depending on if there is any new news. But as of now, there has been no updates in over a year. While I can understand delays due to real life issues, it shouldn't take much effort to at least write a note to us who have bought the game and are waiting for it to give us a heads up. The game itself is promising which is why I did buy it. But right now, I do not recommend it. I will change my review when and if a update or news shows up again.
I cannot recommend this game, because it's still in early access, and the last update was over a year ago.
The Development has been too slow sorry dev i can not recommend this
The developer constantly stops out of the blue and starts agains
making him unreliable
It's been 6 months and we still haven't gotten an update. I suggest waiting till there is some more content to buy this game. I'll change my review when there is.
Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 are practicaly all complete, at the moment I would suggest getting the game until it's out of early release, but for the price and the preview/ yet to be full game it's ok.
other problemes seen though, are
* Crashing in Chapter 3.
* Can't hit monsters with melee weapons sometimes.
* Falling in Chapter 1 counts as falling in the tower.
* First boss has an unforgiving attack that practicaly always hits.
* Dead ends that look like they may lead somewhere, but don't.
These problems, once fixed, will make the game more enjoyable.
this is a great game for early access it makes me wonder what the full game will have in it i can't wait to see everything that gets added to it..i love the humor in the game and how it shows a what if style thing..what if a villager had said to the heros in an rpg "oh no you don't..you can't have my things get back here with that" lol i'll be waiting happily to see more
Main Devs MIA
Nice art style and plays well with the story so far has been well executed. The first update was out in three days and they have a well thought out KickStarter that gives me confidence that they will deliver on this title
and you can jump and do an action dive, I can't tell you how important it is to me to be able to mindlessly jump around while i'm walking in an RPG
