In resident evil 4, special agent Leon S. Kennedy is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. President’s daughter who has been kidnapped. Finding his way to a rural village in Europe, he faces new threats that are a departure from the traditional lumbering zombie enemies of the earlier instalments in the series. Leon battles horrific new creatures infested by a new threat called Las Plagas and faces off against an aggressive group of enemies including mind-controlled villagers that are tied to Los Illuminados, the mysterious cult which is behind the abduction.

After finishing Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake, I thought, why not go back and play the original RE4 the game that started my love for the series?
It took a bit of time to get used to the old, tanky controls again, but honestly, this game aged like fine wine. Sure, it has a few minor issues here and there, but it's still a solid experience.
For those complaining about crashes. try turning V-Sync on in the NVIDIA Control Panel
For lovers of the Resident Evil series, this is by far one of the best ones ever made. This game is pretty lengthy especially for newcomers and old alike. Has a few modes to unlock and 12 achievements!
Tip, after finishing the game once, beat the Separate Ways Mission as Ada to unlock Ashley's armor outfit which makes her invincible against enemy damage if worn. Will make beating pro mode that much easier!
I literly cant get past chapter 3 because every time i try jumping across the boxes my game just crashes. I've tried restarting my PC and i tried restarting the whole game, but every time i get there it just crashes. If anyone had any clue on how to fix this please let me know.
The best game ever—I played it as a kid on PS2, then later on PC, and finished it a million times. The best Resident Evil ever—amazing, full of nostalgia.
ive played the gamecube version it was fun but the experience on pc is way better, controls feel less clunky. overall if u like survival horror and retro style games youd love this game. its really fun, puzzly and action packed. 10/10
this game is really good, even though it's over the top it still has a really good story, the gameplay is really good.
bosses feel a bit too easy especially saddler, his entire bossfight is shooting the eyes and avoiding him is really easy.
the biggest problems in the game the camera it's really janky and the QTE
there's a pretty good weapon variety and a lot of upgrades, levels different in their own way, cool puzzles and good enemy types
overall 8.5/10
This was the first Resident Evil game I played on my trusty PS2 all those years ago, and was amazed at how good it was. I have a play through every now and again for the nostalgia.. amazing game and highly recommended for those who haven't played Resident Evil before.
A timeless masterpiece! One of my all-time favorites. There’s so much detail and care poured into this game... hell, it was the first of its kind! And anyone complaining about the 'tank controls' is just being a wimp – they actually add to the horror and tension. You really have to think about your positioning, which makes it even more intense! The remake is fantastic too, but the original is truly irreplaceable.
This is the one that started it all. The Goat. The grandfather of over the shoulder shooting, and action horror. Who doesn't enjoy bingo? I digress.
For older gamers, I need not explain. But for the newer generation, if you can get passed the stop and go tank controls, you're in for one hell of a ride.
I've lost count of how many times I've replayed this game, and every single time, it still holds up. Resident Evil 4 is hands down one of the best action-horror games ever made. The pacing is perfect — tense moments, creepy environments, and just enough ammo to keep you on edge. The over-the-shoulder camera was revolutionary back in the day, and honestly, it still feels great to play now.
Leon is such a cool protagonist (yes, even with the cheesy one-liners), and the variety of enemies keeps things interesting the whole way through. The village intro? Iconic. The castle? A masterpiece of atmosphere. And let’s not even talk about the regenerators… absolute nightmare fuel.
I know there’s a remake now, and it's fantastic too, but there’s something about the original — maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s just how well it was designed — that keeps me coming back. If you’ve never played it before, do yourself a favor and dive in. If you have, well… you already know.
10/10. A true classic.
This game is literally a timeless. Nothing much to say just pure perfection.
Game's based. You can tell this was meant for early gen controls but it's not too bad. I hate the castle. Game is so silly.
Fish. 8/10 game.
the atmosphere, funny quips, best leon, fun gameplay and very replayable
One of my favourite games of all time, I must have played this game more than 5 times at this point, but it doesn't matter I never get tired of it. If you haven't played a Resident Evil game before, this one is the perfect one to start off with.
Resident evil 4 is a masterpiece, it's easily one of the most recognizable games in the series and for a good reason. The game is insanely fun and replayble, aged pretty well and it's almost on every platform possible
jogo viciante e gostoso, mas em termos de jogabilidade prefiro o resident evil 5
Really fun game. Also I cracked up laughing probably over ten times because of how stupid the story and dialogue is. I liked the remake, but I preferred this one, having played it after the remake.
A timeless masterpiece and the best game in the entire franchise. The Godfather of 3rd person shooters and an inspiration to my favourite franchise Dead Space. Resident Evil 4 is terrifying and so much fun at the same time. There will never be a game just like RE4, and it holds a special place in my heart.
One of my favorite games ever made, with the HD Project mod installed on top, it looks just like how I imagined back when I first played it over 10 years ago. Solid, fun and addictive gameplay that was completely removed in the remake for realism and it got rid of the joy in playing. RE5 2005 Forever!
"Takes me right back to my childhood and the PS2 days. Always loved it — truly one of the best games ever, and I could replay it a hundred times!
Resident Evil 4 is a game I hear is good. It's a shame that for me the mouse inputs didn't work at all. This meant I couldn't get further than the first enemy.
simplesmente o primeiro jogo que joguei, tudo que eu digo sobre ele é q ele é maravilhoso
This survival horror should make you nervous and terrifying, but instead it gives you so much fun and action, I love it
I see why people say this game is legendary. Fantastic game with a great story and its really fun. Leon is unintentionally funny asf in this.
100% should play it if you havent before
I remember as a young child watching my oldest brother play this game on the ps2, hiding behind a pillow because the chainsaw guys terrified me. This game went from something I was scared of to being the first game I ever beat by myself. After years and years this game is still my favourite Resident Evil in the entire franchise. Its absolutely timeless. Every once in a while if there are no games hitting I'll come back and beat it again just for something to do and its always as fun as the last time. I've never (and doubt I ever will again) enjoyed a game as much as i've enjoyed this one, from the cheesy one liners to the gameplay, especially the interactive cutscenes. My one and only 10/10.
9/10
RE4 is one of the best games ever made! The story is interestingly goofy while the gameplay is fun and satisfying especially if you like to speedrun!
very good game, but you should play it with the hd project mod
It's fun, but I don't recommend it if you get motion sick easily. I refunded the game for this reason.
I've been playing the original RE titles in chronological release order, and this is the first one I actually mostly enjoyed. I wasn't a fan of the section that went back to the old-school tank controls and static camera angles, but thankfully it was a short section. Surprisingly decent voice acting and dialogue until the very last scene on the jet ski. Ick.
Few games have redefined an entire genre the way Resident Evil 4 did. This game not only revolutionized survival horror but also set new standards for third-person shooters. Even nearly two decades later, it remains a benchmark in gaming history. Even today, Resident Evil 4 holds up remarkably well. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, this game delivers an unforgettable experience that every gamer should experience at least once. With tight gameplay, an immersive world, and some of the best pacing in video game history, Resident Evil 4 is nothing short of legendary.
Resident Evil 4 is in my opinion one of the greatest games of all time, the gameplay was revolutionary at the time, the graphics far exceeded its predecessors, and it gave us a more mature and skilled Leon.
The enemies in RE4 were much smarter than the previous 3 games as they were infected with parasites rather than a zombie virus, which made them smarter and gave them the ability to wield weapons. The enemy types are all unique and provide different challenges such as the Dr. Salvadors and their one-shot chainsaw attacks, or the Regenerators requiring you to shoot multiple parasites to defeat them.
The bosses are also unique and fun, from Mendez splitting apart midway through, to the terrifying U-3 encounter, to cheesing Salazar with an RPG, to Krauser's knife stun lock, every boss has different techniques and tricks that make them enjoyable every time you play.
The characters also stand out in the game, Leon is an amazing protagonist, Ada's interactions with Leon are flirtatious and antagonistic (towards Leon of course), Salazar is annoying to the point of being quite funny, and Luis is one of the best side characters in all of Resident Evil.
The extra modes in the game are also quite enjoyable, mercenaries is always a delight and RE4 does not disappoint, Assignment Ada, while not being canon, is an enjoyable game mode where you play as Ada collecting Las Plagas samples, and the Separate Ways story mode is an amazing story expansion that shows the game from Ada's perspective, giving more boss fights and implementing sparring use of her grappling gun.
The game is not as much a survival horror game as it is an action shooter, but it does balance a sprinkle of horror within the game, with several parts such as the U-3 boss, the oven man, and of course, the Regenerators, provide the horror aspects that Resident Evil fans long for in each game.
The biggest flaw in the game is Ashley's AI, she commonly puts herself in the worst possible positions throughout the game, walking into beartraps, crouching down and stopping when an enemy gets close, running right into the Las Plagas tendrils that protrude from Ganado heads, and at times running in front of Leon as he makes his shot. Ashley does become much more manageable if you unlock the Knight costume, which makes her invincible.
Overall, Resident Evil 4 is, not without reason, most people's favorite Resident Evil game, it has a fun story, challenging but fun gameplay, and a decent mix of horror and action.
worth every penny and with tweaks this game is just peak, if asked me an easy 10/10
Decided to give this game a shot cus the remake wasn't really clicking with me, to say the least RE4 is a great game, this was truly revolutionary for 2005 and it deserves to be called the game that saved the Resident Evil franchise, however for ME, I still fw the vibes of classic survival horror games (1,2,3 on the ps1, REmake and also RE2 and 7)
I love being terrified for my life in games, the OG RE games capture that feeling perfectly, the only time I was scared in RE4 was during the regenerators section. Dont get me wrong, i know it is a very good game, I just personally prefer the survival horror aspects of the series over action.
One of the best RE games ever made. I still play it till this day, never got bored. This game was and still is ahead of its time. Nothing more to say other than love it. This is the icon!
Goated game because Ashley has jiggle physics
The remake is hard because of modern game difficulty, this game is hard because of the fucking controls.
Been playing this game since it first came out on PS2. One of the best games ever made. Developers were very generous to us consumers when they developed this game. MAJOR replay ability. Obviously if I'm still playing it 20 years later and still enjoying it. I wish they still made games like this.
Controls are a product of their time, but undoubtedly worth checking out this game especially on sale
Iconic, timeless, fun and sassy. My fav game for a reason.
Truly an astounding game all-around. The level design is superb and the gameplay is perfect. It might not be the smoothest, but it strikes a perfect balance on its difficulty, adding to both the horror and action elements of the game.
The story is cool, with a lot of cheesy character work for Leon, Ada, Ashley, and others that totally adds to the experience of the game. Boss fights are really well done and even regular encounters can become very stressful if not handled correctly.
What really sets Resident Evil 4 apart though, is the inclusion of Ashley Graham. In previous Resident Evil games, the player only has to worry about their own survival, which can easily be stressful enough. In this game, you have to fight for both you and Ashley, as she is not equipped to defend herself. This can feel annoying at some points, but it more importantly raises the stakes of every encounter throughout the game.
One of the greatest video games of all time, undisputed re-definer of it's genre.
Please enjoy this timeless classic. 10/10.
Hasta luego,
boy

DISCLAIMER: If your Windows system monitor happens to be 144 hz, you may need to lower it from your system settings or install a 3rd party program to do this if your system does not allow for you to set it to a custom rate.
I've used the EDID editor, "CRU" (Custom Resolution Editor), to set it to 60 hz, and this enabled me to enjoy this port of Resident Evil. It's free to download, and quite simple to use.
Although it is deeply disappointing that I had to seek out of the box solutions for a game that can easily be "p-worded" and run on a PS2 emulator in less than 10 minutes, I would still recommend this release, especially if you have any interest in speed-running. I have also experienced occasional stutters with the frame rate.
no single player DLC , no BS separate way add-on post launch to squeeze more money out of fans, no bland a** side quests. no crappy Ada voice
The scariest part of this game is the motion blur and Leon's never-ending one liners
Good game. the ammo management was stressful, but if that doesnt bother you it would be great.
I have played this game for many many times before and buying it in 2025 was one of the best choices i have ever made. 10/10 this game is a work of art.
The save sound track/theme has a lot of good memories for me, as I used to listen to it during healing from an injury. So even though I never played this game until 2025 and its my first RE game, I was keen to buy it. I've not gotten far in yet but I think its really good so far and its refreshing to play what is essentially just a good, solid video game from the golden era of games before things started getting ruined with microtransactions and other nonsense.
Feels more grounded than recent Resident Evils' story and plot, kind of average experience for those who didn't catch it at the time of release and lack the nostalgia. Got superseeded by the remake, which seems the better option.
Shall Capcom add Enigma, will flip the review.
best resident evil game, still holds up even 20 years later, worth playing even if youve played the remake. controls took getting used to but now im fully accustomed to them and in love with this game. 10/10
Do you remember those boring MJ missions from Marvel's Spider-Man, well this game has one too and it's actually good.
This game is a classic blockbuster that you can play over and over again.
Story , music , style , gameplay , everything is absolute cinema.
Atmosphere is also on point , and mods can make this game a way more better.
10 / 10 with no doubts.
This is the first series of Resident Evil that I have finished. Now I'm interested in Resident Evil games. When I was little I was so afraid to play it on PS 2 and now I finished it. The story is very rich, I never skip it.
